We had a long day hike.. to get to this cache having completed ithe ridge walk first. Not for feint hearted lots of crossings easy with a helpful stick! Easy find! Tftc!

Found it on a long, cool walk on the circuit. Thanks for the cache.

Spending a long weekend camping with friends at Manna Gum. 4 adults and 3 kids hiked the cascades track this morning. There was a lot of water, and the creek crossings took some serious acrobatics to negotiate. A lot of fun for all. TFTC

Sunday afternoon on the Easter long weekend and everyone was relaxing. Billy suggested we do the short walk to grab this cache. We ended up doing 3km in total as we started up the fire trail hill rather than sticking to the creek dont make the same mistake we did. It was muddy and very slippery after the creek crossing. 2 of us in gym boots and 1 in runners. The long gum boots were defs the pick for this walk. Lots of laughs. Found without issue. Signed and replaced! Another oldie ticked off Found with Billy and AliO. TFTC.

A New Year brings resolutions and some new goals. My current goal is to get my hiking fitness in order for an upcoming 3 day hike over Australia's highest dozen mountains in early February. So, with most of the "Kosi" team along for this training hike, we headed out to hike the Cascade Falls track here with the aim of collecting an unloved multi there. Despite being an avid bushwalker and camper, I have never visited this beautiful valley. And it was looking great today. Green grass and nicely flowing creeks, with fat cattle everywhere. I am already thinking of returning. After an early (Lady Sim Grumpy Face) start and coffee at Aratula, we set off from the trailhead heading for Cascade Falls. Seffnjarah and I were too busy chatting and I inadvertently walked past this one. Thankfully, we realised before we had gone too far. Knowing we were unlikely to return this way, I quickly doubled back the 400 m or so. Even though Seff had found it nearly 10 years ago, he doubled back as well. Thanks to the rope tether, the retrieval of the container from Stumpy, was nice and quick. Everything here was in good order.Always good to claim an older cache. Many thanks for placing this ARH TIger and thanks to the local caching community, including my hiking mates today, for keeping it alive.Pete#7,572

Such a nice cache, there's no trash bag anymore but can be easily recognized by the orange rope once you're at the spot look deeper into the cache if you want to find the original logbook

Tftc. Kids enjoyed the walk, lucky I had them with me so I could lift them up cos there’s no way I can jump up that high! Log book was destroyed so couldn’t sign.

Found it pretty easily, the log book needs replacing though since its been destroyed by water damage

Quick easy find, log book wrecked couldn't sign, thanks for the cache

Visiting this part of the world has been a very long time coming. A clump of older geocaches and probably adventure await. Despite having driven vaguely by along the Cunningham countless times and having hiked all over Main Range including to Bare Rock and Glen Rock - both of which as the crow flies are not far at all. But venture into the Goomburra section, just hasn't happened.

Just 36 hours before the weekend, I made a snap decision to book camping in Gordon Country and grab the little clump of geocaches out this way. On the second day I planned to grab these more walky geocaches - three of them in a loop. I learned the latter of this thanks to a map handed to me at check-in!

After failing to have an early start, I'd packed up my tent and driven to the trailhead. As I was putting my hiking boots on, a National Parks vehicle opened the gate and drove out. That's cheating! I grabbed my stick and set off at 10:00.

Getting to this geocache was a bit of fun. I followed the main road until I had to kick left to join the Cascades Trail. From here there were some muddy sections. I had my usual caution about snakes, which wasn't helped when I passed a sign warning of rough-scaled snakes that love this area.

There wasn't much gap in the trees and I didn't fancy much bush-bashing. So I was pleasantly surprised when the GZ seemed to be in a clearing. And then the geocache name really made sense. I detoured a few steps up and looked inside for a quick find.

Big thank-you to the previous finders for maintaining the geocache. I noticed it was clearly in a right state. But today, not so. It was tethered, an easy retrieval and I signed a dry logbook at 10:10. Good one!

So that was this oldie sorted out. Now I'd press on to complete the circuit and Ridge Track, 7.5km-ish total. Thanks for this geocache, ARH Tiger/Jessie K Smile

Today we visited this section of the Main Range NP and really enjoyed our walk to Cascade Falls collecting this cache as we went.
We’d read the previous log and realised this cache was going to be difficult to reach so we brought along a ‘claw’ tool to give us the extra reach. And it worked a treat. After extracting the cache we noticed another below it. So we got that out too. Logs in this were wet but we combined the two into the bigger cache. Signed the ‘magellan’ log which was bone dry.
Then we noticed some twine and wire at the back of the stump - an obvious cache tether - so we fashioned a noose around the cache and lowered it into the abyss while securing the other end at the top. Hope it lasts.

Thanks Jessie K.

Caro and I visited Goomburra today for what would be a great adventure following all of last month's rain. This was the first stop. Unfortunately, I had not read the last few previous logs and like others was sad to find the cache tucked away securely in the depths of old stumpy. I too tried for 5-10mins with a fully extended hiking pole and a stick squatting on the top to try (without success) to extract the container. TFTC Jessie K

Today, Beardman75 and I used the opportunity of Warwick's CITO to take a trip south-west from Brisbane. In the morning, we hiked in the Goomburra Section of Main Range National Park, following the Ridge track, followed by the northern section of the Cascades circuit. We then made the dash to Warwick to collect rubbish at the CITO event, and then spent the afternoon visiting Locations of the three Adventure Labs *Forgotten gates of Warwick*, *Warwick ~ Roses and Rodeo*, and *Warwick Historical buildings and sites*. We then made the return home and completed a couple of driveby geocaches.

The last campground / car park was closed (too muddy road section?), so Beardman75 and I set off a few hundred metres from the main trailhead at 08:45 hr. Walking the combination of the two circuits had us travelling a total of 10.7 km over approximately 3-1/4 hr. The walk itself wasn't too bad, although during our return, a few of the creek crossings were tough as the water was quite high, and it was a struggle to stay dry (although Beardman75 ended up just trudging through the water). The waterfalls during our creek were stunning, and running very well with all the water we've had in the past few months.

The walk back through all the creeks was certainly slower going that what we had expected, and hence we were running behind time. We quickly spotted the obvious stumpy stump, but alas, this wasn't the quick find that we were hoping for. We found the tethered string, but alas, the containers were not attached. We spent a good 10 minutes attempting to use our poles and trying to reach down, but the gap was too far for us to manage today. So, unfortunately, we couldn't make a field repair, and maintenance attention is required at this spot. Thanks Jessie K / ARH TIger for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance. It was nice to have found this oldie 05/2007 hidden cache, of which is one of Queensland's 1000 oldest yet active geocaches.

29-May-22
DavidWazza and I completed the Cascade Falls circuit heading in an anti clockwise direction. After visiting the cascades, and many creek crossings, we ended up here where we quickly found the tether and spotted several containers below. Unfortunately the tether has failed and a rescue is required. Thanks for the cache

Unfortunately the container has fallen victim and is lieing at the bottom with other cache. We tried to retrieve but couldn’t manage to get it. A claw Wud be ultra helpful!

I’m looking at a crazy Challenge Cache that requires caches by placed date in a number of LGA’s and I’m missing Southern Downs… so with a list of possible caches PirateLinda and I made the trip out…

This was the last target in Main Range National Park for us today… After enjoying the walk and creek hopping to get here, with all the birdlife around us it wasn’t hard to spot where the cache was to be… and there it was exactly as expected… inside was a surprise though… it didn’t take long to gain access, make our mark and return to the car… tftc…

We’ll be back with more time to hunt the others nearby…

Nice hide and beautiful walk in.

There’s something deep inside the hide as well, too far in to fish out unfortunately. Could be junk but maybe a bit of fencing wire will do it.

Camping for Father’s Day and took the niece for a quick grab before we head home. Searched in the wrong place initially but we were soon back on track and found what we were looking for. First entry in the new log. All is clean and dry. TFTC Smile

As this is a new container it would be appreciated if you would rebag the inner with the plastic to keep it dry

23-May-21
Sorry for the late log. We started our walk early and went anti clockwise, up the steep hill. The landscape is so beautiful and we enjoyed the Ridge Trail very much. The cache was found very quickly, the log is unsignable (so very wet) and we just tore off a piece of paper and signed this. The cache went back into its hiding hole and we continued our walk to the car. The Cascade Falls are so beautiful and the creek hopping was so much fun (no wet feet or falls into the water). Thank you for the cache Jessie K

1/1/21 Find #4472
Fangsoki, Radnoski and I were camping in the National Park for New Year’s. The weather was rather indecisive today, but with it holding out we decided to go on a short jaunt up here and find this cache. A nice journey and a couple of creek crossings, and we were soon finding ourselves at a very likely GZ, where the first thing we saw (apart from the GZ) was a fan belt left on top of it. No idea why you would find one of those out here but there it was laying as casually as anything.
Anyway next was the cache, and the poor logbook has seen better days. We managed to make our marks, before replacing as found and taking the fan belt with us, seeing a small snake on the path on our return journey. It slithered away without issue and we continued in kind.
Thanks for the cache ARH TIger.

Log very wet. Definitely a small regular, if it can actually pass as that. Left a lolly look high lighter.

Camping the weekend at Manna Gum we decided to do some of the nearby walks and find some caches. We started on the Dalrymple circuit, then branched out onto the Cascades circuit which was very beautiful and finished off on the Ridge track. Saw many different types of birds and some wallabies.

The log book is very wet but managed to leave my signature and date.

Thanks for the cache! Smile

Found this very broken up container, searched around to find bits and pieces to fashion a new one. This hide been around too long to neglect. A wonderful place to visit thanks

Completed after doing the Ridge Walk, enjoyed the cascades track, very pretty. This cache needs a new container, its falling apart.

This was our second cache for the day after completing the ridge walk. This is a fantastic old stump however the container is showing its age due to the effects of the weather. It is now very brittle.

76 Km from home.
We had loaded up Scooby Doo (Car) & the Mystery machine (Van and mobile GEO HQ) and headed out to the Goomburra State Forest and set up for a night away from phones, TV and worries from work.
I decided to go for a walk before breakfast and crack a couple of caches. This was the first of two and I knew then what I know now, it would have been the only one. A really pleasant walk just on sunrise, two different species of Wallabies spotted along with 5 or 6 different birds and one possum making a late dash for a tree.
An easy find with reasonable co-ord accuracy.
We took nothing but memories; we left nothing but footprints, a lanyard and our tag.
The hide is excellent, the container is in good nick however, the log is very damp and only just useable.
Thanks for the cache ARH Tiger & Jessie K.
Cheers

Jess and I took the day off today (no, we are not calling it wagging, lol), for some nature therapy and bonding time. We headed south to this area and this cache was the final destination for today. What a gorgeous area. We have not been here before, and I have decided it is definitely now on my camping list. Besides, there is another cache nearby that I will not be getting today as teen Jess is over it and we are both pretty ready to start the approx. 2 hour journey home. So that simply means I HAVE to come back. Razz

Thanks for this cache, Jessie K, the walk to it was thoroughly enjoyable and I look forward to doing it again with the other walks in the area. Smile

Today I headed off bright and early from northern Brisbane to meet up with teamdfl at Poplar Flat to take a walk out to Gap in the Wall, but sadly we discovered a gate across the 4wd road with a sign saying Closed for Repairs!!!! Sad Neither of us liked the thought of the extra 10 or so kms we'd need to WALK all the way out there and back, so a change of plans had to happen. I had loads of caches to do in this area, and she was keen for a leisurely wander to recover from her big hike yesterday, so we decided to take the walk around the Cascades Circuit and then onto Ridge Track so I could get those two caches sorted.

We took the creek walk out to this one, which was rather pleasant. GZ was pretty clear, and I was glad to discover the container had not descended to the bottom, and made a quick grab. TFTC, Jessie K.

Last time I camped out here I had a DNF on this one. Sad I was hoping for better luck this time. With a 16km, almost 7 hour hike already done today it was a slow wander round the Dalrymple circuit this afternoon. Wink

I was very happy for a nice easy find when I got to GZ. Big Grin

Camping up at one of favourite places close to home we had a few caches left to grab in the area. Arriving at GZ the hiding place lived up to its name. Thanks Jessie K, for placing the 863rd cache that we've found so far! Smile

Fangsoki, Sweet_bee, La Kedi, Dosshell and I took a drive in the country this fine day, and for reasons I never quite actually asked about we drove to here. It's not far from home. Really. Checked out the camping options (hopefully I wouldn't need to use them tonight, how long is this walk anyway?), and then geared up for the first trundle of the day.

Headed out along the track, and very soon had to make a decision. Fang had been here before, as a midi-soki, but his memory seems to have been affected by something Surprised so I looked at the maps and we went left. Turns out that both options were equally viable. Loved the efforts the QPWS guys have gone to along here, taking the info sign to a whole new level. The track is pretty cool too - I love criss-crossing creeks like this, just gorgeous.

Temporary cache quickly found at GZ, and once signed a fresh slightly larger container replaced.

Thanks for placing this cache, Jessie K. Left in good condition.

I know some people that may be exited/slashed confused that I actually log anything these days but here we are.

After a bumpy and possibly death defying ride in the Fang mobile we arrived at the end of the road.

After a quick walk and a past a few very large stumps we arrived and conquered this one.

23-Aug-15
Sweet_bee, Pprime, Dosshell, La Kedi, and I were visiting the area today - and this cache was our first visit.

We had read the previous logs and prepared ourselves for it.

We parked up in an area I had not seen since 2003. My friends and I used to camp here in the early 1990s. It was a personal favourite given the walks, etc.

But the walks have changed. Dalrymple Circuit? It seems to be half of what the Cascade walks was. Well, needless to say. We sorted it out. We had a wonderful walk through the forest and a hop over the creeks (happy to see this was still an aspect). We soon arrived at GZ.

We soon found the temporary container.. in good condition. Huzzah to those who saved it from being archived Smile Mr Pprime brought a large container and we transferred the existing log into that (after signing it of course). Mr Pprime found a suitable hiding spot. Kind of wish I bought an ammo box or something now.

A great little cache in a very nice area. TFTC ARH Tiger (and finders who took the time to save it) Smile

Day three of the expedition and I decided to do the Ridge Trail via the cascades loop.

Perhaps I should have read some previous logs on this one. I was looking for something much larger inside the stump. Red FaceSad The eclipse tin may well still be there as I was not looking for it.

10-Apr-15
Found "the stump" but no sign of anything remotely like what is described. Unless it's dropped into the depths.
Had to rely on memory of past logs, description & hint as there is no phone service for miles.

(It appears my original, well crafted and witty log that I published has disappeared into the ether).

A group assault today to replace a couple of missing caches in the area. Despite a thorough search we were unable to locate this cache so dropped a replacement so that others can continue to enjoy this great place.

Enabling cache.
Cache has been replaced and will be maintained by the local community.

07-Dec-14
As declared on a previous log, a few committed walkers converged today and replaced this cache. The Reviewers note is clear that without Owner involvement, the cache must be archived. That is a shame because the cache gives a destination to a really lovely spot. It was beautiful and cool here this morning after the rain with the stream running and many lovely swimming hole opportunities.

But, unfortunately, I did not receive any response from my attempts to contact the owner. Not sure if the others did. If the Reviewer does archive this one, at least there is a container in place that future archive-hunters can look for. The container is now an eclipse inserted into the top of the stump.

I received a text from Mr Meerkats suggesting a walk in this neck of the woods. The added bonus may have been a few extra years towards my 'Unloved Challenge'. Sadly after looking at the logs and the challenge notes we realised the cache may be missing, and that we could not 'add' a cache and claim it for the challenge. The call came from the Kat 'did we still want to go?'. 'Too right' was our unanimous reply.

I have never been, nor heard, of Gordon Country before. Even the info available online seemed to suggest at best a vague idea of what to expect. We all rendezvoued at sparrow fart o'clock and headed out for first meeting at Aratula. Coffee and breakfast...heaven.

Off again over the range and up to the turnoff. Thats when the music from Deliverance locked into my thoughts. I am sure I heard a yokel say 'Well look-it they'r Ellie-may...dems is too-wrists'. We passed the megatropolis of Goomburra and found our way through to the entrance to the national park.

From here we entered a most magical wonderland. I have spent many of the past weekends walking over much that the great south east of our state has to offer, and I can say that today was my favourite walk of them all. Quite simply it had the lot. A beautiful creek babbling away beside us for most of the first half of the walk, many creek crossings, rain forests, waterfalls, slippery rocks, wildlife in abundance including snakes, birds, goannas, insects (even leaches and ticks!), moss covered logs and spectacular views. This is truly a hidden oasis that locals in Brisbane should really come and see for themselves.

After sorting out GPSr issues that want dot tell me I was still at home ( I was clearly NOT in Kansas anymore), we found the right path and quickly made it to the cache. No luck finding it, so a replacement was laid for future finders. We hope it does not get archived, but have a plan for if it does!

Thanks ARH Tigers. I can only assume you serve our country somehow, and may not be able to access your emails regularly, but if you would like help in maintaining this to avoid it getting archived please get in contact with any of todays finders!.

07-Dec-14
For a cache that hasn't been found for a while, Stumpy is looking remarkably new! Almost as if it was placed just yesterday, or maybe more recently.

We had got a call out from the Meerkats to make the trip across to find this one and Ridge Walk. So plans were made and we set out at sparrow's fart to head through Cunningham's Gap. We stopped for coffee and a bacon and egg roll in Aratula before entering Gordon country.

After a pretty drive right to the end of the valley we off loaded and started walking up the Cascades track. It was pretty easy to get to the eponymous stump and after a little bit of looking and a little bit of 'and now every one turn around for a bit' and blow me down we found the cache.

Thanks ARH Tiger. This is a great little spot, we did both the cascades and the ridge, was a lovely walk.

30-Nov-14
Please do not archive just yet. A group will be down here on the coming weekend and intend to replace this cache.

I have tried emailing the owner with that offer. Awaiting response.

11-Nov-14
The cache appears to be in need of owner intervention.

I am temporarily disabling it, to give the owner an opportunity to check on the cache, and take whatever action is necessary.

Please respond to this situation in a timely manner (i.e., within 28 days) to prevent the cache from being archived for non-responsiveness.

If you require more time please be sure to post a note (not an email) explaining the situation and how much more time you require.

For ongoing issues please ensure you visit the page and post a note every 28 days to keep everyone up to date or the cache will be treated as an abandoned cache and archived without further notice.

Based on previous DNF and need archiving note I will go into detail of GZ.

We did not find the cache, we jumped up on top of the large stump and looked down the middle of the hole, and there is nothing down there. There was not much to shift around in the middle of the stump so if this is the hiding spot there the cache is not there.

It was however a great walk. Thank you for the GZ... made us go on a walk Very Happy

After camping in the car over night nearby it was time to go caching again. Smile After I got the ice off the windscreen. Razz
I parked at the end of the road and started the walk to this one. After a good walk and a little rock hopping over the creek I was soon at GZ. The obvious spot was soon searched without success. After reading the logs I searched for the new one. It was soon found well tucked away.
Thanks for the cache. It is dry and in good condition.

10-Apr-12
After walking the Ridge Track and finding the cache up there, we branched off onto the Cascades track. What a lovely walk, although we did get our toes a little damp at some of the creek crossings! We arrived at GZ and soon spied the obvious spot. Mr. Herbz followed the instructions, avoiding some of those nasty jumping ants, and poked and prodded around but alas no cache was to be found. Caches in NPs are gold and need to be kept alive where possible so we decided to place a temporary cache hope thats OK with the owner. We had a small green srcew-top tube on us so we hid it in the North West corner in a crevice in the bark just above waist height, signed the log and left it for the next cacher to find. TFTC.

Found in company with the St Anthony's Scout Group while on their Camp at Goomburra National park.

The tin was quite rusty with some water ingress. This cache may need to be replaced with something more waterproof given its general location.

Found with Anne Maree, true to form we came at this one from the wrong direction straight from Ridge Walk across the creek and through about 10 metres of wild raspberry it must have taken us 20 to 30 minutes to break our way through scratched and bleeding we triuphantly found the cache, no swaps made we headed back to the car for a much more picturesque walk. thanks Jessie K

Found in a race to the finish with Gra from GraKez and Tagteampro's Dad. (I let Gra win as he was feeling under the weather)Beautiful walk and georgeous rainforest. I can only image the former true beauty of this hide. Saw frogs..., wallabies, bell birds that deafened us and probably would have seen a lot more if we hadn't of talked and joked so much! Left Perisher Blue Hat pin in memory of the cold weather and took Las Vegas Casino Chip. Thanks ARH Tiger! Straddie Heaven

12:45pm found with "Straddie Heaven" hot on my tail! The last 50m was a bit of a race but Mr GraKez beat her by a noseBig Grin

Outer bag was damaged and water logged, inside tin was also damp, we couldn't do much maintenance as we didn't have good weather Sad, but we replaced the outer bag with a new one.

Took Vegas Chip, left whistle, TFTC !!

Cache was located closer to the start of the walk than we expected. We found it with no problems. Lovely location and plenty of water around. After completing this cache we decided to keep going on to the other cache in the general area. TNLN. Thanks Jessie K

Very nice area. We did the whole walk around (clockwise recommended!). Introduced 4 friends with geocaching. Very easy find as is guesed the location from 50m distance.

The 1.5 terrain rating is accurate UNLESS you approach it the way we did. Not sure what Steve's slippery log creek crossing would have bumped it up to?? Thoroughly enjoyed our walk through this great area. The bell birds were in full chorus this afternoon. Some amazing trees through here too.

We took a kookaburra and left a few different items to stock up the cache a bit. Thanks for the cache, and for bringing us here.

Yes, there was an easy way in ... but watching Steve's creek crossing was worth the detour. Listened to the bell birds. TFTC

Found today with lochb and Steve and Family.

We of course were cursing at the 1.5 terrain rating as we went up hill and then cross country down to the creek, crossed the creek and slogged up to a path we had not seen before.

The way out was a definate 1.5 terrain!!!

Top marks to steve for his gymnastics "balance beam" demonstration!!!

LOve this spot. Thanks for the look see!

Another FTF, and an introduction to caching for some friends.

We had a bit of a bush bash on the way in as we followed the management trail, which deviated off a bit furhter than planned. Found the cache and the trail. On the return journey we found the trail was closed off. Oops!

TNLN, retrieved TB.
