In Mannum for the weekend for a little R&R.Today we headed out to clear as many as we could and sightsee the area. Well, after barrelling up the top, realised my error and went along the 'Ledge"..duh... The last few metres are very sketch and sould probably be reflecte by a higher terrain rating of around 3 1/2 - 4, but I clammered along to GZ and made the find knowing if I went south, at least Meggs would be able to call 000 ! Amazing find wth a great view thankyou

This was a must for us as GT37 likes to get caches placed before 2010. There is an exceptional natural geological feature nearby. Thank you for placing this cache out here so that we could see it. Lovely area to go for a walk but there was some sort of biting insect that we originally thought were mosquitoes. Thanks for the cache and bringing us here.

19-Mar-22
This was a great place for a cache. Both the geological feature and the lovely stroll along the river made it lovely and to top it off, this cache is an older one which I also like to chase. Thanks for bringing us here and maintaining this cache for us to enjoy for so long.

Thanks for arranging this hide. Travelling with Wollaston and SeasonedBird. Went up the easy way and made our way down to the cache which was easily found. Thanks and fav point

More good exercise, a fav point from me. On the hunting trail again with SeasonedBird, Liz & Bruce. Blue sky day, so it’s a great day for caching. TFTC Da Frizz (aka Frizzdigidy)

Cache found in good condition and in a logical spot.

Caching the trails and picking off randoms with Wollaston and Liz&Bruce.

Thanks to the many hands and minds taking time to set out hides and showing us your part of the world

Full time nomads since 2014. Still tootling around the country trying to avoid Covid hotspots.

Back in SA for harvest work. Spending a few days in Mannum. With the extreme weather of yesterday we werent sure we could access all of the caches that were our target for the day! We had no need to go on the main road but noted the detours in place and the ferry was surely busy! Surprised

A part of our day took in November of OTD series and it was possibly the hardest of the whole series that we have completed. Im sure the grey day and the constant drizzle did not help. But smilies all around on completion. Razz

Only attempted this after reading the previous log. approached same way as ozmilo and no worries. cache in good order.

Could not get access to the area as it is marked as unsafe and off limits due to environmental instability.

31-Mar-21
With my plans to fly to Brisbane for the the Easter Dayboro Mega event cancelled, I decided to head to the Riverland for a couple of days instead.

After visiting the Earthcache I looked up at the ledge. I decided it was too dicey to climb up from the bottom so I walked back from where I came and walked up the gentle slope. I carefully made my way down to the ledge. The cache was found in the first place I looked.

Unloved since 2017!

A favourite point for the fun.

Thanks for the cache Da Frizz (aka Frizzdigidy).

They really don't want you close to this one, road blocked for 10 years now? But ok for lucky locals!
Walked in anyway. Took advice from description.
Got within a few feet along the ledge.
Was windy, but thankfully dry.
Near the end though was a collapse with many small rocks and dirt like marbles, and not much to hang on to Surprised
If the cache is still there after the two years since last find, it is safe from finding today.
Even getting from the hill onto the ledge was a bit dodgy over slippery rockfalls. The main ledge was pretty good though Razz
With a wedge tail circling overhead in case I fell... or maybe it had an eye on a nearby snake... it all seemed a little crazy risking that last few feet for a T2.5. Surprised Cat lives to cache another day.
Thanks for the challenge Da Frizz (aka Frizzdigidy) ,
will place on the watch list and return maybe with reinforcements one day!

We stopped at this one but it has had recent work and had larger stones removed from the portion needed to climb to GZ. We decided to not attempt on safety grounds. I am sure it will settle and those braver than I will get to GZ.

Today we did a loop from the Murray Bridge area, Mypolonga and to Mannum. Whilst in these areas using Geocaching as a guide we picking up a few caches on the way and this was one of them. An easy find at Da Ledg...at the..end.

Not a DNF as I got to within 5 metres then decided as I was by myself not to risk that last little bit after a pretty major fall 2 weeks ago. Surprised I think I saw the hide but will have to wait for next time when I have some support. Big Grin
I did have a lovely walk and great views from GZ. [^]
Thanks Da Frizz. Smile

We came to do a river cache and then noticed an earth cache and then this one. At first we were too low and then too high before finding the right level. A few careful moves at the end before making the find. We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC

Heading from Mannum to York Peninsular today and grabbed a few caches along the way. I found a variety of different caches and this was one of them. Thanks to all the CO's for placing the caches.

A nice little walk to this one. Once at GZ I saw the obvious hiding spot and decided to walk around instead of climb up. A quick find once there. Just don't slip - it's a long way down! Nice views though!

Today we are taking the boat out for earthlight to find some river caches and each time we pass here we avoid it as the road is closed, today we bit the bullet and parked at the corner and hoped no one would help them selves to anything in the boat, we put on the fly nets and off we went for a nice walk along the broken road, the 2 dogs not to far in were taken by surprise and let us know they were there by constantly barking at us lol, we soon arrived at the spot and then tried to work out how to get to GZ, i start right above the GZ which was quite hair raising as you slip ...your dead.....turns out i was on the wrong level and soon made my way to safer ground, read a few logs and approached this one from a different spot and was a lot safer to do it from there, no hair raising moments lol, enjoyed the views from this spot and our names were soon in the book, cache is in excellent condition, this cache was worth the walk down to it and the boat was safe with nothing missing, just don't forget the fly nets as the flies are lonely around here and looking for new friends to play with lol. DNF for us today but we believe we were close. Will return to tackle again, perhaps from a slightly different approach.
Spectacular views made up for not finding the cache.
Thanks for bringing us here Da Frizz

30-May-15
It seems you cant go down that road now. There are detours from the Bowhill Rd end & gates at Bakers Hut Rd end. Not sure if temporary or permanent. Didn't go so close to check it out properly.

09-May-15
Spent quite a while looking for this one as I found myself on the wrong level from the top. There are lots of levels that can be easily accessed. At no point did I have to take a chance on my safety to find this cache (though I wondered at the highest level when the arrow was pointing right over the ledge. I eventually returned halfway down the way I had climbed up and made another attempt at the cache from a middle level. It was there I found the cache and felt perfectly safe the whole time. Thanks Da Frizz

Hubby did the gentleman thing and went up up up as I stood by and watched. Then, something came towards me. Hubby had dropped part of the cache container so up I went but was unable to make my short legs and arms (duck's disease is a curse) reach the piece. Hubby came back down and retrieved the piece and then we both went back up the easy way. SL TFTC

In Mannum today for the Steamed Up weekend so stopped here to find this one after being so close a few years ago.
Using the description and accurate coords we located the cache quite easily.
Went up the face but came down the much easier slope to the east.
Great spot to ponder life as it skies by...

Boohoo! A sad smilie on our list for today. Sad

I volunteered for the mountain goat activities in the hunt for this cache, but despite a lot of searching on a couple of different levels, both of which felt rather hair-raising for someone who suffers from vertigo and gets some lovely head-spins when looking down steep drops... In general my climbing more closely resembled a crawl or bum-scoot along the ground in order to minimise my risk on the scary ledges. Surprised

I was very sad to walk away unsuccessful from this one. Somehow I managed to slide on my way back down the hill... took a chunk out of my palm, and felt only relief that the slide happened on safer ground than near the ledge!!! Thanks goodness Sylken were there to help me clean up ready for the rest of our caching expedition

TFTC - I hope to come back and conquer this in the future.

We were on the way to Swan Reach to attempt the 'La Cueva' cache with geodaughter KAROPI. We stopped by to try for this one. KAROPI did the hard yards looking for this one (phewRazz) but wasn't able to make a find. Unfortunately she slipped on some marble sized pebbles when we were making our way down the slope and took several layers of skin off her palm.

She was still able to smile at the bottom though so all is wellSmile

Thanks for the cache anyway Da Frizz [^]

Furrangel and I decided another road trip was in order so we headed out toward Mannum in search of some things to photograph.

We added a few caches to break up the drive. Was a wonderful day the sun was out and there was little to no wind. Plenty of wild life including sheep, cows, parrots, and even a Kite(Eagle).

Wonderful walk from the car as we parked it up stream by the closed gate and walked in, perfect day for it... as we were in the area for the Nearby Earthcache we couldn't say no to doing this one as well... and of course we tried from the bottom... no no take the advice and walk up the hill and across... easy as pie that way...

Thanks for the cache Da Frizz Very Happy

South Australian OZ Mega 2014 in Murray Bridge. A Twelve day trip to and from the mega. Plenty of caching along the way and near Murray bridge. A great time with lots of cachers all over the place to make for a very entertaining period.

My last day at the Mega and Sol de Lune had already headed off. Mega Day 5. I stayed onsite till late morning to help with the last session in the hall and help pack and clean up as required. Then it was off on the trip east to go home, but I went the long way. It took to visits and multiple spots checked, but it was there and it all made sense once I saw the right place to go. Thanks.

Found while heading home from a weekend visiting a friend near Keith but it was really hot this week Visiting a relative in Mannum sitting Back taking in the views from their house as our Relatives have a great view of the River and The Murray River Princess was docked and watching from the house deliveries to the paddle boat, cleaning ready for the next load of Guests. But what we see below in the Park in the rotunda was a Group of Police having a Pow wow, having lunch about 20 of them in car loads of Police cars. .TFTC

Tried to do these two today "Da Ledg...end" & "Mannum Granite Quarry" the road is blocked from both ends. Does anyone know if it is actally safe enough to walk in from either the north or south to do these caches? I see the road has been blocked for a few years, concerned that with the recent rains it could have created further issues. Any info would be helpful.

The cache maker and I came from Queensland to find some caches

we really wanted to do these caches but the road was blocked off by a fence, because of the road subsidence

Another day off, another chance to pick up some caches. This time Mr M planned to head East and planned a route consisting mainly of dirt roads to pick up all the caches that were on the routes a little less travelled. brisal5 was invited and made the decision to join us on this caching adventure. The day was yet another sensational day for caching and we were taken to a number of interesting spots that 'normal' people would be very unlikely to visit.

brisal5 did the nearby earthcache before we attempted this one. He took the low road and I took the high road. I got close to GZ and was just contemplating a leap of faith to go the last 5m when I heard brisal5 declare that he had found it. Not feeling right about him putting me in the log without getting to GZ, I went back the way I came and eventually made my way to GZ. TFTC Da Frizz. Favourite awarded.

Another great day of caching with Aussie M&M. I surprisingly got a leave pass for the caching widow and was able to tag along. For those that know us we managed the trifector, one fell over, one drew blood and one split the daks. Razz The Ms were after a few previous DNFs and to fill in those out of the way caches. Great day, great company and some really good caches. Big GrinBig Grin Left 3 trackables, grabbed 2 and left about 4 of my pathtags out in the wild.

A couple of leg ends set out to find this one. One took the high road, the other the middle on. We both then joined up at the cache. Thanks Da Frizz. Bit slippery and hairy at GZ. Cool

I thought it was more than a 1 1/2 star difficulty rating, well the body did. Took it nice and easy and came up with the goods.

19-Aug-12
I took da low road, then da middle road without finding anything and was about to walk away thinking da top road was too dangerous to access considering I was caching alone when a different route was found, after that it was da easy way.

I grabbed the TB in the cache.

Thanks for the cache Da Frizz.

30-Jul-12
Took a while to work out which ledge with some hairy moments. I'd probably give a higher terrain rating for potential danger, particularly of slipping at the GZ and thereabouts. Nice views of the river. Left a TB. Thanks Da Frizz.

01-Apr-12
The road past the quarry has been closed due to the river bank cracking so I had a nice walk the last 260m. A couple of false starts to find the right ledge. Please note the easiest and safest ledge is the right ledge. it is very slippery on the other ledge and top of the cliff.

I left a calling card and a die.

Although I got within a few meters, I had promised the Geofiancee that I wouldn't go anywhere that wasn't entirely safe. Since our definitions of 'safe' differ somewhat, I was sorely tempted to push to the final location, but decided not to. I couldn't bear to stay out in that heat any longer than I HAD to.

07-Aug-11
We made it to da top. That part was easy. It had been raining earlier, and da rocks were slick with water. I stepped on a large section of exposed rock, and came down heavily on my dignity. Fortunately it was well away from da edge, but any thought I had of going out to find da cache today evaporated in that instant.

"Is your GPS okay?" enquired Astro. "You haven't broken it have you?" I told him it was fine. "That's good. You haven't hurt yourself either?". At least he has his priorities right!

Being very careful of my footing, I waitd as a less shaken cacher made the retrieve, and tossed it up to sign. Not so bad when you take the right ledge, and when it's dry!

TNLN - Thanks Da Frizz!

You can walk in. Suck it up! Just do it! Big Grin

It was a bit wet and slippery. Those rocks on the top are a doozy. I will let the winterdragon tell the story.

The cache was where it should be. Surprised to be writing in the book 1yr and 1mth after dalast finder.

The cache is a beauty. Keep a look out for dadykes. If you are there at sundown, there could be daparty. DADykes in these places are fun stuff.

Daclear daskies. Even though it was wet.........

19-Jul-11
Walked along the road to the Mannum Granite Quarry to have a look at a couple of caches (including this one).

I was able to get close to the cache but the ledge is no longer looking safe so I erred on the the safe side and did not attempt this one - like the other two teams who have posted logs.

I would suggest the owner has a closer look at the cache location and either move it (safely) or archive it.

[8)] This cache needs attention!
The road leading past it is now closed due to the collapse of nearby cliffs,
The way up to the North is looking very ordinary also.
Please consider moving or achiving this cache as safety is paramount to all.

15-Nov-10
Viewed 'da ledg' from a safe 20 m. away. The river road is closed due to cracking and landslides. Walked in 500 m. to the co-ords and climbed the hill to the jumping off point. Discretion took over from valour and decided to abandon the hunt in the interests of a longer life.
A pleasant drive on a sunny day.

07-Jul-10
Cordinates had us up one ledge too far and in what I thought were some "hairy " spots. Fortunately Bronsen had no fear and soon had the cache in hand for us!!!

Found with CPwanderer and Mooshell. Done a silly thing and tried to approach from the top. Had a thought where it might be. And found the better way to cache. Any body with young children please keep a close eye on them when doing this cache. TFTC. TNLN. SL.

07-Jul-10
Definitely not a 2 1/2 star terrain. Do not attempt from the very top- that is too dangerous and wont get you near the cache. The view was great so I took some photo's of the river. TFTC, TNLN

nice point and a nice view over the river. Thx

Very nice. Just check your brains before the last two steps.
Made one approach and realise it couldbe there.
Lowered my sights and walked straight up to it.
Nice and easy find
(Sorry I couldnt resist writing that)

I looked high, I looked low, I climbed high, I climbed low but NO CACHE. There is one place I didn't look and that was in the crack at the end of the ledge behind a rock. It was too slippery to get there to look and it certainly isn't a 2.5 star terrain to get there (it's much much higher). I could just see myself slipping off the ledge looking for a bit of plastic which wasn't likely to be there anyway (given the actual terrain compared to the terrain stated on the cache page).
I went back down the bottom to have a look under some big rocks. While I was doing that I was thinking 'gee, I hope I don't see a snake here' and guess what... I did. The gentle rustle of the grass in the wind was just enough to cover the rustle of the grass by the snake. A nice 5 foot brown. I returned to the car and left.

What an interesting spot. The views were spectacular. We went to the wrong place to start with, but our presence scared off the muggles who were chopping down trees with a chainsaw for firewood. We just couldn't find the cache no matter how hard we tried as we scampered here and there. Giving up we returned to the car only to look up and say, "Hmmm wonder if it is there?" Closer inspection....Guess what! Left a wallaby to play on the rocks and took an Indian. TFTC

Did this one with Gordon Patrick Samuel - went from the top & then down one level - very loose & high! Gave up one this one, until we saw from the road where it could have been. Our very own mountain goat scaled this one & found it!
Took tuff dog & left (appropriately) goat!

Enjoyed logging this one as I took the advice and sat on the ledge and watched it all go by Big Grin
I remember thinking at the time that a cylindrical container could cause the finder a lot of grief if you dropped it at any stage here Wink.
Luckily, I didn’t and simply signed the log, making no swaps. Cheers Frizz Big Grin
