I am working on a challenge that requires finding caches that are a minimum of 2 kms from their nearest neighbour and need to accumulate a total of 500 kms which isnt an easy task. This one fits the bill so was on my must do list for this weekend. I parked out by the road thinking it didnt look suitable for my car. There were some big puddles right across the track there so I put on my gumboots which turned out to be a wise decision. I followed the road down to the river then tried to make my way back up towards the cache, through a big weedy puddle which came almost up to the top of the gumboots, GZ was being guarded by a long piece of blackberry bush which I tried to stand on to get it low enough to get over, big mistake, it ended up scratching all the way down my other leg which in turn left a trail of blood running down into the gumboots. Nice easy find once I got to GZ then found a better safer route out. Thanks for a fun adventure Moneydork

This cache has long been on our "must do someday" list and today was that day.
We took the chance and drove down the road until about 70m from the cache then it was on foot scrambling through gorse, thistle, and various other flora to make an instant find at GZ.
Then back to the car to shed dry prickles etc and do a 5 point turn to return the way we came.
Thank you Moneydork.

Today we aimed for one old, one new, one possible and one maintenance. This was the old. We passed here more than I care to remember. Always running out of time, in a hurry to get somewhere or in a hurry to get home.
We tried for an as close as possible P@G. We walked the last 70m because I treasure the paint on my car. The biggest challenge was reducing the effect of thorns and prickles while in shorts and a T-shirt. Good fun. Thank you Trigger_Fish

A nice walk down the road, could "probably" got down and up most of the way with the Outback, but you never know so I was glad for the walk. I took a more cross country way over the final 40m to GZ, and while there found the easier way in, so I used that to leave. There were a few miscellaneous car parts at GZ of vehicles that couldn't handle the trip! PLeased to find this, I have passed the turn off many times. Thanks.

Ms_KR and I are on the west coast, to complete the PWGT GeoTour this weekend, with only 0 to go. Yahoo!! Another glorious day today, fine weather for most of the caching time but a little rain too. TIme to head home now.

Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

Time to head home after an awesome weekend caching around the hokitika area.
Early start on a mission to get as many between hokitika and Arthur's pass.
White truck and hi viz jacket perfect camo for these caches
No need for HI viz or gumboots and I'm glad I left the truck at the road as a little way down the hill there was a tree over the track .
Nice wet feet by the time I reached the cache which was a quick find..
No deer today but there was sign at the top of the track ....
Good excuse to stretch the legs..tftc

Left Zara at Kumara Junction while we went exploring. Toby was in his element with his special features switched on. We bumped our way down till it got decidedlly nasty. Then out for a scramble amongst the brambles. Bullertrout got this one snagged. Replaced wet log with a temp RITR log to keep this one rolling along. Now with the help of the boys managed to turn around without incident (I have a large bike rack hanging out the back.) and head back to the main road.

Saturday 8 February. From Kumara Junction to Greymouth today. So lets go exploring.

Making a long weekend out of Waitangi Day exploring the West Coast with Zara Toby, Bullertrout and Bro. Its Waitangi Day today. Exploring Hokitika, Ross, Hokitika George, Lake Mahinapua, Lake Kaniere areas today. Great time and visited some amazing places..

Stopped here on the way to the West Coast this afternoon. I was able to drive to within about 75 metres of the cache (but don't try that in your town car!); then a short walk and a quick find in the second place checked. No entries in the logbook since July 2014, this is definitely a rather lonely cache! Signed log, thanks for the cache and for bringing me to this rather lovely spot!

Looks like it has been prone to flooding, not sure if it is still there

A lovely walk down. Two fallen trees blocking the way. Two old cars down the bottom. A post saying no digging because of telephone wires buried. Exposed wires in the middle of the road further down. A quick find. This was a lemon on Settlement Rd. Tftc

Parked on the road and wandered down the 4WD road, we saw 2 dumped old cars on the way. Nice walk to break up the power trail. Tftc

On our way to Springfield to do some maintenance on our BtGs when our plans changed unexpectedly. With soo time much up our selves it was finally time to get this one off the unfound list. We parked at the road with 600m to the cache and started walking. The bush was loud with cicadas but not one bird or any other animal in sight the whole time. Found the cache easily, inside was a mess but because we had read the previous log before we left the car we brought in a spare log and a tissue to wipe everything down. The track is a bit gorsey and overgrown but easily walked. In the heat of the day the walk felt much more than 600m so I set the GPS for the return journey. 970m from cache to car. Glad its finally done. Thanks for the cache Smile

saw the reason for the road....only high clearance could get ball the way now....van at the bottom is there to stay. cache was swimming, all is sodden. shame we had not read the cache before wandering down..... thanks

No 4WD, so a longer walk. But it was good to stretch the legs after a longer drive. TFTC

Strolled thru the native and not-so-natives to reach this cache. Quick find, dried out container as best we could, didn't realise there wasn't a log book... TFTC

This track seems to get a bit of traffic, but I don't know why.

Got the work van stuck on the access road in the rain, had to resort to some old offroad tricks to extract it Wink,TFTC

A walk for me. Took a while to get to cache. No deer sighted today. TFTC

This would have been a blast in a 4WD. As it was, I had to console myself with finding out what the cache name meant. I expected a tennis ball, truth be told. Now I'll never know. Didn't spot a single animal, let alone a deer. This cache was a complete let-down. WinkWinkWink TFTC.

Looks as though it has been some time since track used by a vehicle as there were a number of fallen branches and wash outs on the track. TFTC

For us the coordinates took us straight to the cache, which contained a wet mushy logbook, which we removed and will give to you as a birthday present tomorrow! Dried the rest of the contents and put in a new log page in double plastic bags. TFTC

Wet log book !!!! And nothing with us to repare it ! Sorry !

I walked in to this one after a quick assessment of the early parts of the track, keeping in mind recent heavy rainfall on the Coast. Once there it was a quick find after ignoring the GPS pointing to a dense shrub that hardly qualified as a tree and deciding that a proper tree is where any self respecting geo cacher would do their hiding. However the cache itself is showing the results of recent heavy rain. I was barely able to sign the book as it was so wet and then in the middle as that is where it opened. I dared not try any other place as it would have ripped. I then wandered down to the river took a photo and strolled back to the car. Thanks for a great walk. No deer or deer prints though. Hatas

Having seen that ADV got down here earlier in the year (or two ago now I think about it) in a van I decided that it couldn't be too hard to drive down here in the Mistral and it wasn't. A few scratches and a bit of a bent aerial is all the damage for a bumpy drive down to the cache. A nice turning area close to the cache and a short walk to the cache for the find. A bit more a bump and grind back to the road made for the end of a fun diversion for this cache. TNLN Thanks.

Found on my way home from a wee West Coast caching binge. No, you mustn't drive to this one - you'll miss all the lovely forest. It's only 15min walk each way!! Though I was a little perturbed by frequent nearby gunshots, so I tried my best to not look like a deer!!! Got myself down to GZ in weather that was spitting with rain, but no cache to be found. So, I put "geocaching brain" into gear, and said "Now where would I hide a cache around here - oh, over there obviously!!" Spot on!! GPS was still telling me it was 25m away - but it wasn't. Went on the short distance down to the river for a look around, and headed back up. At least getting three Moneydork caches for the day made up a little for failing once again at "Titanic Erratic"!!! No swaps, thanks and cheers from Grandalf(1202)

I drove into a spot where it was wide enough to turn around and parked up and walked from there. A nice easy find, I carried on to the end of the track just to see where it ended. it would have been harder to turn around at the end of the track after all the rain.. Cheers

First of my trip home. HAving read of ADV's adventures I decided to walk in from the highway. Really nice just before dawn it was too. Lovely spot - thanks.

1st West Coast cache on this trip over the Passes. Walked in from SH7. Spooked a deer just before I came across evidence of a deer kill that must have happened earlier in the morning. TNLN T4TC.

Walked this one and found OK. An earlier attempt in the van a couple of weeks ago did not go well and required the services of a tow truck from the local garage Sad

A nice wee evening walk - didn't even have to borrow the ToyotaVX - Shanks's Pony was fine!! - the only relatively cool (temperature wise) walk that we had today! Cache found quickly after a moment's concern - but it pays to look around the other side too!.

Took the cache mobile down the track and parked it where it widened. Walked only the last 600m to the cache, avoiding mainly gorse.
The lovely black and yellow huge dragonflies were attracted to the caching hat. Beautiful epiphytes on the tree at GZ.
Was a little disappointed at the teensy weensy size of the cache, but this was countered by the great walk! Now, back uphill to the cache mobile. Thanks for sharing this spot with us.

glad to finally make the time to get this one. Had little miss woodrow's in tow. This was the first of 5 today. It looked as though it was going to be 1 of only 1!

The girls were fine(-ish) going in but the return was a little more tearful. Bribes of milkshakes were banded about which worked (for 5 seconds)

Thanks for the cache. I enjoyed the walk in and the girls can now feel the sense of achievement from walking in and out.

Found with Pinot Noir, lovely walk. Glad I listened to geocacher's intuition and looked where I did, instead of diving into the patch of gorse that the GPSr was pointing at.

Made a quick dash to this one as I was heading to chch. The cache was very straight forward, and a quick find. Interesting little spot with the sound of the river.

We were surprised to see this one hadnt been found as we drove by on the way to the coast.
Saw two others walking in despite the rain and somehow managed to get to the cache before them. Turned out to be Pinot Noir who were doing this cache without a GPS! We were impressed! Dropped off a Geocoin and a game and took a Candle and a Peguin
