This weekend, I headed to Mount Gambier for another weekend of cave diving practice. I was diving at Pines Cave for both Saturday and Sunday, and spent a little time with finding a few geocaches in the afternoons. Saturday was spent around the Mount Gambier Prison vicinity, while Sunday was spent travelling back to Adelaide via Millicent and Beachport lakes inland section.
This afternoon following my dives, I decided to head to the west of Mount Gambier and find a cluster of geocaches around Mount Gambier Prison. A few drivebys and a visit to McNamara Park where the motorbikes must race. A pleasant few hours before darkness fell.
This geocache had a few DNFs with it, and so decided to visit this location anyway to see if I could make the find here. I made the short walk to GZ, and spent a good 5-10 min looking around trying to find the cache. There was a bit of tree cover and tyres dumped nearby, and so it was hard to think what was suitable for a cache hide. In the end, I listened to the hint, and made the find 5-10 m away from where GZ had me looking. The cache container was in pretty terrible condition, and the logbook was wet and mouldy. Definitely needs a CO TLC maintenance visit here soon, but I suspect this cache will soon be archived anyway? Thanks anyway The Rizzos for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

At last ....I'd had been here prior and wasn't confident about going in on my own.... this time with hevwalker with me we went in determined to find this cache which hadnt been found for quite awhile....needs new container as it broken and log book damp. TFTC
A lovely afternoon collecting a few caches with the family...
All the gates were locked today so I climbed over it & headed to GZ...no-one was around...found the container...it has perished & has a big hole in the side so some maintenance is required before it gets saturated...the log is in a plastic bag so not too bad at the moment...
As I returned to the car my path was crossed by a wallaby with a joey in it's pouch...

Suscoe had a terrific day caching to the west on Mount Gambier today.
It was cloudy for most of the day with a cool breeze to keep everything nice and temperate.
We found 40 caches in total which was a lovely number on a beaut day.
Had a delightful walk in here, a pleasant spot. There were a few workers doing maintenance over the way.

In Mount Gambier for a caching weekend with Mrs. M, as Mr. M was away in Canberra working and perhaps getting a cache or two. Caught up with mogni and headed out for another great day of caches and laughs.
Nice day for a stroll through the bush. Found the cache. Thought I heard a bike in the distane burt it turned out to be a brush cutter. Go figure. Thanks The Rizzos

This was a very interesting cache for us. I had to master thus one myself since the other members of the team are petrified of snakes... I started my long track though the bushland thinking it was only 200m away. It was seriously the longest 200m of my life.... After eventually arriving at GZ, I realised that there is a nice CLEAR path I found of taken which would of avoided my cuts and bruises....

Nice stroll through the bush. Trying to get the pen to work is a challenge though. I forgot to bring my own
Stopped to talk to a muggle near shooting club before looking for cache. Took trackable.
Mr. Greydude had to do this cache while we were visiting the area.
Many moons ago when Mr. Greydude was young he used to race here on his Waterbottle 750, ahh those where the days hammering down the straight so it is only fitting that he drops his first trackable here too

Yay 100 finds for me. We drove in, past some people. Not real sure if it was ok but no-one stopped us. I picked up 2 TB's to help them on their way. Hubby came along for a drive, as according to him he doesn't care about the caches but likes the places they are hidden in. Thanks for the cache.

Couldn't find an easy access to this one today. tried from both directions. With racing on as well didn't want to appear to be trying to get in for nothing so gave it a miss.
Really lovely location, our young nephew enjoyed this one, heard and watched the bikes roaring around the track for a little then enjoyed a short walk to the cache, took us a little to find but soon had cache in hand, awesome cache. TFTC. Took: lanyard. Left: pyramid light and our pet tag.

Please have a look at the access to this one as a new fence has been put up along the road and as you aproach the main gate there are signs saying to keep out and/or private property.[?]
Geo-grandaughter took to the scrub on this one.

I've never been in to fast car - more like 4x4's for me. However, given half a chance, I'd love a shot.
Clear skies from TeamAstro.
I have lots of fond memories of coming here in the late 70's & 80's. The track was a little rougher back in those days
A nice easy find after a stroll in from the main gate. I dont think the sign there has changed however!
Left the 'Liam' TB here to enjoy some motor sport [^]
Cheers & TFTC.

Huge hunting party out today which made this one a little hard to find when there was racing nearby. But geokids are always a great excuse when asked are you guys looking for a camping spot. A nice little hide that we tried to find early in our caching history but a lot easier in the daylight and on the right side of the fence. TFTC
Took us a while but in the end we found it seen a skippy thought it might have been attached to him

Nice drive stopped to watch a bit of motoX then had a gentle walk to cache good hide. left GI Joe Had young brother and his family with me they are almost addicted SL
Rocky Glen Grommets were inthe Mount for Motocross State Titles so it only seemed fittingto also do some local caches - a good hide and one we enjoyed. The Seniors were certainly buzzing along nearby - the groms raced the previous day. In celebration of Grom1's placing (6th) we left a Rocky Glen Pathtag.
Hubby liked this cache & i am sure we will back when the bikes are racing. TNLN. TFTC.
Found at 10.45am,
Have been to the nearby track several times to watch the racing, back when I lived here.
Today managed to get my elderly mother-in-law all the way to GZ.
Peaceful area today - apart from gunfire from the nearby shooting range/.

Thanks

Down in Mount Gambier for a weekend visit to Son & Daughter-in-law. Arrived on Friday and decided to cache as the weather was good. Interesting places you get to go to when out caching. TNLNSL
We disturbed a number of wallabies on the way to the cache. After a bit of bush bashing we found some clear track with short which helped to keep our shoes dry for the day. We found a number of broken bottles near GZ which detracted from the beauty of the area unfortunately.
Thanks,

2Dudez and Team Rubik's Week Long "2008 : A Cache Odyssey" trip to South Australia.
Lots of Kangaroos around this one
We found a nearby geo-trail and tested out the waterproofing spray on our boots as we walked through the long grass.
No activity nearby, so we were on our way.
Thanks again to the Rizzo's. (We will be Saying that a lot over these few days )
