Found while staying out here with a friend a little while ago. Completed this area.
Day trip to Robertstown and Eudunda area grabbing many multis and others during the days caching. All caches in good condition unless mentioned in the logs. TFTC Very interesting history and visiting places getting all the information. Also replaced cache as lid broke when putting it back on.
That was so much fun. A great history lesson. I loved Colin Thiele's work. When I was a year 12 student our English teacher took us to meet him at Magill Teachers College. The first of many wonderful South Australian authors I've had the pleasure to meet . Thanks Matmob for keeping this history alive.
On our travels we stopped to grab this cache, I am glad we took the time to this multi, it took us to some beautiful county side, that is after we finally got the right cords, but we soon had the prize in hand, thanks for placing this interesting cache
Another cache found with richlink on our 2022 South Australian Adventure.
It was a freezing morning in the Barossa but the sun is shining and the day is warming up nicely, perfect for caching. TFTC.

After a freezing night we headed out early with iluvtrekking to explore the surrounding rural areas - our kind of caching. Thanks for the multi and the hide.
quick find
The JAMS team (( JJ52, Allister W, Mogni, and sir_spectre ) plus TallBikeStan for this trip ) are headed off to the 20 th JuneLongWeekend Event in Clare. As you would expect extension poles, blow up kayaks, waders and ladders are in the car. I am sure every one else takes 11 hours to reach Clare from Adelaide, i am also sure via Burra is the logical to Clare . There was many photos taken of the fun times we had, even involving a ladder in the creek and of course many dirt roads ventured down. All caches for the weekend where stamped as JAMS and some more caches where placed on our travels. The missing JAMS member Michells&hound joined us in our B&B in Clare but didn't join with us for the JLWE game. The weather slowly got better over the weekend. It's good to see some gadget and creative caches around Clare that are permeant and not temp game caches.

What a delightful, historic multi. Just what makes geocaching great.
We loved this one…and another favourite point on it’s way.

I had been getting itchy feet and wanting to get out in the bush camping again, so decided to do an overnighter to the mid-north.
Unfortunately the weather forecast wasn’t great, but aside from a couple of showers in the morning as I was heading north from Adelaide, the occasional bit of patchy light rain on and off through the first day was not enough to detract. And the temperatures in the mid-20s were very pleasant!
However, today was a different matter. The light rain started at about the time I woke up and steadily got heavier as the morning progressed. It resulted in some rather muddy roads and caused me to change my plans a little.
My main targets were once again multis. Again, most were Used2Bs or similar single or simple 2 or 3 stage multis that didn’t take too long.
Despite the weather, I had an excellent day of caching, finding 23 caches in total. All but one, for which I ended up making a couple of phone calls, were found easily. All of the containers and contents were in good condition.
The only downside was the need to dry things off and get the mud off the car when I got home.
As previous finders have noted, the cache seems to be about 50m north of the calculated coordinates!
Thanks matmob for the cache.

This was a great multi celebrating one of my childhood hero’s, Mr. Colin Thiele. We were in awe of this famous man who wrote exceptional books that we couldn’t put down once we started reading them. Thank you for taking us along on his journey.

A long multi that’s for sure, with some maths in the car I worked out a pretty good looking final. Cache is all good
A nice day out caching around eudunda and the surrounding areas, despite the on and off rain all day majority of the caches were easy enough to get to. Total of 39 finds and 1 DNF.

We really enjoy our time in Eudunda and always visit the Centenary Gardens where the Colin Thiele sculpture is. Today we did this multi and visited some of the important places for the Thiele family. TFTC CamperVanWannaBe's for creating the multi and TFTC matmob for adopting it.
For some reason I added this multi to the list for today I think I was supposed to add a different 2 stage multi but there we were with this long 3 stage multi. Luckily everything fell into place and we found the nicely hidden cache quickly but there was a fair bit of driving. Still not sure which multi I had intended adding to the list but now we have this one done instead!

After completing the Tour de France series with Michells&hound we thought we would try a couple of multis. This one wasn't on the original list, but as we had started we thought that we should finish it, even though we were running low on petrol.
Gathered the required info, did some calculations and off we went to GZ and found the cache right where the GPSr wanted us. Was surprised by some previous logs stating they were 50 metres out. [?]
I remember reading Colin Thiele's books when I was at school in the 60's.
Thanks for the cache matmob.

Yet another Puzzled Puzzler's Tuesday caching adventure. Oh dear..we are a little light on for crew today. Just me and Mrs. SA Sewer rats. Never mind..we have a plan to find some unloved caches and get Rat qualified for an unloved challenge we want to do later in year. [8)]
The target caches were all up above Robertstown, so of course we took the long way, detouring to some unfound caches along a circuitous route.
We did all the calculations and parked next to a perfect spot to hide a cache. A gnarly old dead tree. The GPS took us up to the fence line and so we searched around the trees near there. nada. okay back to the old tree although the GPS doesn't gnarly. Still nada. [:(!] So look at the logs and see people are finding it 50 metres north. Walk up the fence until we are exactly 50 metres from GZ, look down and there is the cache. [B)] Go figure. Can't see where we and everybody else went wrong. [8)]

Brisal5 and Mrs SA Sewer Rat set on a lovely sunny day of caching.
WE had to targets for the day.
One was to get Mrs Rat to Qualify for Unloved cache Challenge in Victoria.
The second was to get her to the 28 caches to get her last Hidden Creature.
Arrived at GZ, a quick search no cache.
Brisal5 checked the logs which led to a cache. TFTC

I think this was the 3rd attempt at this one and this time is resulted in a find! Although it was 40m north of the coords I had worked out - although I still can't work out what I've done wrong?
I looks like Colin's house is up for sale...

Heading north from home today to convert some unfounds to founds and explore some backroads. We eventually found the cache 49 metres north of where our coords took us. This could have been a calculation error on our part, but it didn't take us too long. Left a couple of our pathtags. TFTC

My 500th cache! This is awesome! Took a bit of a tour of the Eudunda surroundings to find this one! First it was the lack of street name in order to take me to the 2nd waypoint, but luckily I discovered the answers elsewhere. I then travelled on the eastern side of GZ but couldn't find a way to get to it, so backtracked into Eudunda and eventually found my way there. Thanks Matmob! Will remember this one for a long time!
Found during a day of caching with locus_cache and Earthlight, and having a good time in Harry, despite losing a headlamp to a wayward Kangaroo. TNLN. TFTC.
Whilst driving to this cache we had quite a discussion on who Colin Thiele was.
Found with DennisC52 who believed ha was an actor and Locus cache.
I attended Modbury High in the 1960's and one of house teams was Thiele so I said he was a writer.
Eventually read the cache info.
Took trackables to visit.

A very interesting multi taking us around this area. Had a interesting chat with the current owner of the former Mutter Knabe's Nursing Home about the area and geocaching generally. It was nice driving round the country side and eventually locating the cache. Thanks matmob and CVWB's for the cache.
Spring is sprung, the grass is ris: I wonder where the caches is?
Out with firesafe and honeysucker on a lovely spring day for a day's adventure while we searched for caches
They found some, I found some and I lost track of how many times we managed to locus cache
Very few people of my generation would not have read Colin's books or seen the films.

I love Colin Thiele novels and this was a good multi, I have also done a cache dedicated to him near Toowoomba with my muggle brother and sister-in-law. It was great to see where he would have lived. TFTC.
Took the long way around to get to this one but got it easily on arriving at the GZ!! Thanks matmob for the hide!!
We attempted this cache when we first started caching over 2 years ago, but couldnt work it out. Now with some experience & over 1000+ caches later we completed this cache. We remember reading Colins books during primary school & now our kids (in primary school) have also reconized the name as well.

A very enjoyable caching experience that provided not only an outline of Colin Thiele's life and works but of the Eudunda district generally. As a new visitor to the area this served as a fine introduction. Thank you to 'matmob' for the caching experience. TNLN.
Enjoyed reading these books as a child and now driving in the area for this cache, did this one with team scoobsters and honeysucker who had previously done most of the working out TFTC
As an ex teacher of Primary Children I admired this man's ability to entertain and capture the spirit of country living in all his books. I can appreciate how some of the places visited today inspired Colin's writing. Thanks

Had a go at collecting the information, but couldn't find a street sign, broken off I think, and with no quick access to a map or the internet at the time, will have to do some research before I return to this area.
Diane also really enjoyed reading Colin Thiels's books as a child and still has a copy of Storm Boy and this has been on her must do list for awhile. We enjoyed visiting all the wpts and collecting the information. We then headed off to gz where we proceeded to make it a lot harder than it need to be. Once we got over that hurdle the cache was found quickly

It was nice to visit the location here...Colin Thiele was also required reading for me in high school, and I have also taught his works to my students. A very talented author.
Thanks to the iphone and google, we were able to circumnavigate WP2 and got final coords easily...although Mr O felt he needed to double check my workings!

After working out the first stage, some sleuthing from growingupisoptional nutted out the final spot for us. Although we were a bit dubious at first and had to double-check, all was found to be correct when we reached GZ. We both loved reading Colin Thiele's books when we were younger, there are some real classics out there! TFTC.
This was my first multi-cache and it was really interesting watching how they are worked out with friends. TFTC
Had this one worked out before we left home, so providing I did the homework right we should get to GZ without much trouble.... And we did, cache was soon in hand and on our way...

#10 of 12 today. Found at 1300. "Sun on the Stubble" was required reading while I was at school. Colin Thiele was Head of Wattle Park Teacher's College while I was there and he was a real gentle man who made an impression on me. I loved it when he spoke at assemblies and such.
"Storm Boy" was made in the area I grew up and it was actually hard for me to get into the story while watching it because my mind was confused. For example, he was walking past the Goolwa Primary school and then turned into the Port Elliot Primary school. I kept seeing things as they really were, not as they were meant to be. It is a special movie though.
I have many of Colin Thiele's books, especially his children's books (and have read more). I have invited my grown children to go through my bookshelves and take what they want - but don't touch the Colin Thiele ones. You'll have to wait until I'm dead for them!
So, thank you for this journey. It was a very special one.

15th of 33 for the day while driving to Worlds End. Thanks CamperVanWannaBe's for getting me off the main drag. I enjoyed reading Colin Thiele's books when I was younger, this cache revived some memories.
After completing part one of the cache back in May we jetskied the next stage from the web, which was fun in its own right. Back today to complete the cache. Found in the fourth place I looked. Sure are a lot of sticks around here.
I met Colin Thiele when I was at primary school (a long time ago!) Still remember his advise for starting a story - It must be interesting and a very short sentance, if its longer than a dozen words the reader will lose interest before they have even started!
Definately a fun cache thanks CamperVanWannaBes

Last stop for the day was to fix this cache. The box which had been chewed by an animal has been replaced and put back where it belongs with a new dry log book. I will try and dry out the old log book, it was my first log book and first cache so it has some sentimental value. Thanks Gum-Ako for letting me know it needed attention. The box was topped up with a few goodies and a few geocoins.
Archived until it can be repaired and put back where it used to be. Can be found further up (40-50m north) if you want to do it but not in good condition
The last of 13/13 today (lucky eh?) - each above average in enjoyment in their own way.
This one was truly memorable in that I was happy to honour Colin Thiele - a man I consider to be one of the great South Australians and yet so humble. As a child I read his books and felt proud to a country Aussie girl. Still remember the stories of Sun on the Stubble vividly, read late at night under the covers by torch light. One of my proudest memories is sharing officiating duties at the Eudunda Show in the early 80s (my contribution as part of International Youth Year). A gentle man in every sense of the word.
re the cache itself....
enjoyed each of the waypoints and despite all the numbers and sums, quite simple.
Struggled at GZ - spotted the obvious spot from the car but all was bare. A call to PG put us on track but still no luck. Widened the search and found the cache 40-50m north of GZ, open and contents scattered. Squeezed out the log book, reassembled and relocated where we thought it should have been. Sorry we couldn't have done more, but the sun had set, we weren't suitably prepared and the footy sons needed to be collected
TNLN Signed log although tricky with dampness...

I managed to squeeze this one in early, finishing off the trip that has taken a few visits. I was lucky enough to see the Sun on the Stubble as the Sun rose. I read that at Unley Primary back in the 60’s – coincidentally it was first published in 1961, the year I was born. A special moment. I have a copy of that wheat coloured cover edition. I also have a copy of his Grains of Mustard Seed – but what teacher doesn’t [?] Oh, all the editions have the correct ISBNs according to me
Thanx to the CamperVanWannaBe's for the trip down memory land.
We're sure we got the right gz. Couldn't take a pic to show the owners, so will have to wait till another finds it before venturing out here again... bugger. Although the spot we came to was an obvious spot with bark looking like it had covered something recently...
Did the first waypoint for this just after new year and came back today to finish it off [^].
Had to make a guess at WP2 to determine WP3, but made the right choice, but it still took a little searching .
The nearby farmer came out grazing his goats and watching us from a distance , so we went and did a couple other caches on our list, before replacing it.
Great cache concept and locations [^] - and we learned some more about Colin Thiele [^][^]. You can easily imagine where some of the ideas from his books came from (I liked Sun on the Stubble).

We enjoyed doing this multi, which took us to places of significance at each leg. We were around Strathpine north of Brisbane the week that Colin Thiele died (which is near where he had been living). I read about it in the local paper the same week that Steve Irwin died. Thank you CamperVanWannaBe's for this well thought out cache. TNLN.

We had started this one off the last time we were in the area. Then, unfortunately, we were heading in the opposite direction to that that the cache wanted us to go. Up here with The Stanleys today, we had the opportunity to finish it off.

Work in Progress: I got the info at WP1. WP2 was 11km distant. It wasn't on our route for the day, and we didn't want to take the risk of travelling yet another 11km out of our way for the next waypoint, so we left it for another trip when we have more time. Cheers, dak (and acts2youthgroup).

A great first cache CVWB's I was going to cheat and head straight to GZ as I knew I had been there before during event cache placements - but I did the right thing and followed the trail. I should have realized that my GPS at GZ would give me grief due to the 'decoy'! Anyway mrs matmob assured me to keep following the arrow and I would come up trumps - which I did! TNLNSL TFTC

GOLD for matmob! Thanks for an interesting tour about a very interesting man. Never knew where Colin's parents were buried, and had never looked around in there. Thanks to geocaching another unvisited place visited! Colin certainly was an incredible author, my favourite would have to be Storm Boy, and yes, I did cry when Mr Percival died! I have his autograph in my autograph book when he visited my school many moons ago - Largs Bay Primary. He was also patron of the Eudunda District Country Education Foundation, and was very supportive when this was started a couple of years ago to help young school leavers of the district. His own experiences in this district are expressed in his story "Sun on the Stubble", and the town called "Gonunda" in that book was reminiscent of the real town of Eudunda. Congratulations on placing your first cache CVWB's - well done. T nothing, L seahorse.
I have made a mistake with "In Memory of Colin Thiele". The initial co-ordinates should be: S34o09.606 E139o05.049
Show of hands: Who cried when Mr. Percival died? (If you didn't put your hand up, I think you're lying!)
