Great little find! Abit sketchy getting to the spot in our lil Subi but we made it! Dropped off a trackable I picked up in Warragul Smile log book wet af.

Fun find. Log book soaked, cache needs attention.

03-Mar-24
An easy find as it was uncovered and out in the open, so we hid it at GZ appropriately. Triple cache date with Clostar & TinaBush, dragging the husbands and geokids with us. Cache is in very poor condition: container, log and contents are all saturated and filthy & would love some TLC

03-Mar-24
Fun find with the kids, container needs replacing

A short search leading to a nice little nook with a lyrebird nest right next to the cache. The hint should be more like "where a rock isn't in the right place" but just trust the coordinates and you should be fine. For other caches in the area, download them prior to leaving in your adventures. The cache could do with a bit of maintenance as it is very waterlogged and dirty. Another great one for today, and TFTC RobF1997

A day trip to Wallhalla with gwd.aussie, Sharon14 and aqua. A beautiful area to visit with the cache found on our way out. Family and friends think I'm mad well the sign may just support their claims.

Just one more on the way out of town.
Just took long than planned, but it was fun making our way there
We come in from Maidentown Track to the cache & back out the same way.

Out sightseeing and caching with aqau, sharon14, d@geo and of course me gwd.aussie

Found by Rebel Acts

Another day out with Ski pair on a nice sunny day, this time We decided to head to Walhalla to have a go at the lab cache there and do some of the new caches in the area, it had been many years since I was last there. We enjoyed the many scenic sites and history of the area.

This is one of the caches we found on our travels of the area.

All logs signed as Rebel Acts & SKI Pair or RASP.

Thanks RobF1977 for the cache.

11-Nov-21
A straighjtforward drive to GZ on local streets for a straightforward find.

With some better weather finally coming round and diaries aligning a plan was hatched with Rebel Acts to meet in Moe and head to Walhalla for a caching run. There were a nu,ber of newer caches there that neither of us had done and it was a good chance to re-visit an area neither of us had been to for some time.

We came across a variety of caches and did quite a bit of walking. Most of it uphill and down dale!

An opportunity even came up to lock up the 4WDfor the first time in earnest rather than in the driveway just at home.

It was a great day out with plenty of fun and ribbing, mixed in with some spectacuar scenery and beautiful sunshine.

Thank you for your efforts in creating and maintaining the cache AussieRAVer.

23-May-21
the day was spent showing the ham around walhalla
tourist meccas were ticked off with military precision: the old gold mine, the cricket ground, the lolly shop, the rotunda, the cemetery
but with the main drag of walhalla now well-known, we were craving a fresh experience
so took our soles and souls to walhalla’s second street
bypassing st. john’s
in search of our own personal salvation hidden away in the hills

after a fair day of walking already, thankfully the tracks up to pig point were flat enough
and soon enough we were signing off another treasure

thanks for the treasure, nice hidden spot you’ve got here

Decided to get out of the house and go for a drive on a beautiful day.
Well the town of Walhalla was pumping today, plenty of visitors wandering the street.
Decided to walk up from the main street (none of the woosie driving up to the cache) after all it's not that far! Found my way up to GZ and the cache was in good condition although there was a tree cut down in front of GZ and I thought for a moment it might have disappeared, but luckily it was on the other side.
Definitely an area that I didn't know existed.
On the way back I just headed straight down to the cemetery as the scrub wasn't too thick and it was nice and quick!

Our fifth find of 2021 - Happy New Year!
We are staying a couple of nights at the Star Hotel and this was a lovely afternoon walk for us.
It's hard to imagine that this silent spot was once teeming with sounds, smells and human activity - each small piece of broken china now making me wonder who was the last person to hold this and what was their name and what was their story?

Tftc. Nice hide although the clue doesn't really help a geologist who can find many rocks where they're not supposed to be. 5 years ago I did the most gruelling 10 km run I've ever done although by the time I galloped past this point it wad the final 3km downhill back into Walhalla.

Awesome drive. Interesting history. Easy find
We had never been up here before. As the track was narrow we were a tiny bit concerned but all went well. We arrived at gz and imagined what it had been like here in years gone past. Such interesting history! TFTC

Managed to get the Disco up the fairly skinny track and was relieved to see more open terrain at GZ. JosieY set our younger boys onto the task of finding and Raf did a good job. Given the industrial history of this area it was surprising to see how little remains. We soon were heading downhill again.

Parked as close as I could, and walked up the sloppy track to this one. Good to get a bit of exercise on a random track in the bush.

This one was found during a day's caching with The Pacman, Jacko83, Ahomburg, and the caching canine, Bentley Parker. After a beer at the pub we gratefully sat back whilst Jacko did the expert driving up the steep, very narrow road. Thank you Aussie RAVer for the cache.

Out on a mini-expedition with Mudbrick, AHomburg, Jacko83 and geodog Bentley exploring the local historic towns.

Road Trip!! Jacko83, Mudbrick, The Pacman and I hit the road, heading towards Walhalla for a bit of a walk in the area. After a massive day hiking in the area and a quick stop at the pub, it was time to start heading home, but not before grabbing the trads in town. We didnt really have the time to walk this one, but luckily we were in Jacko's 4x4, so after a bit of a bumpy ride, we got to GZ and a quickish find.

Found it after a drive. And found my first trackable that mum (the4wdshed) has logged again. Discovered its been out of circulation for awhile & been all around Australia from Germany.

24-Jan-16
After heading off in the 4wd i was hoping i was on the right track as it was very overgrown & Mr The4wdshed had said not to get stuck whilst he was at work. But we made it to the cache location (dont drive it if you value your paintwork) & had fun looking around. Excitement abounded when we found our first ever Trackable Smile Looks like it has been missing awhile (over 2 years) & may of been logged wrong but weve put it back into circulation & will continue it back on its path home.
Trackable id CBXWK6
Great cache box kids enjoyed a look through it before placing an item in the cache.

As we had no phone reception we were not exactly sure where this cache was. So we were driving up the track past Stringer's Cottage when we got service. Yippie! We then read some of the logs and decided that seeing as we don't know where this track starts to walk up to the cemetery and take it from there. So Geochild and Geodad just went up and up, scrambling though the mountainside bush. After a heap of climbing we saw level ground. Yippie! So we got the phone out, which still had service and we only had forty metres to go. Yippie! So we went and Geochild located the cache and we signed the log. We decided to go down the track which looked like it would go down into the town. After quite some walking Geodad and Geochild both thought they would of driven up on the track in their 1950 MG TD. Only if they knew where the track started. But we then got down to the asphalt road and kept walking and walking until we got to the bottom. But then we had to walk back to the start of the cemetery track to our 1950 MG TD. What an adventure Geochild and Geodad had. They both remarked it was the longest 286 metres ever in their life. Thanks AussieRAVer for placing this cache. - Silkyie

I too considered climbing from the Cemetery but with two small geochildren and a reluctant husband I didn't. I ask about town how to get there via 4wd. I was given directions and we attempted it. Today wasn't supposed to be about caching so once we were on the track and realised it was very muddy and over grown geohusband ask if we could leave it for another time he didn't feel like getting his car scratched or dirty after only recently detailing it after our trip to Birdsville. We then proceeded to Wally pub and had a great meal. Thanks anyway we will be back Smile

Found this one at the end of a couple of days hunting and hiding caches in the area, I thought I'd have a look at this one. After a wet soggy drive up around Maiden Town track it was a fairly easy find.
I would note however the track both ways from the cache is getting somewhat overgrown and thin so if you love your vehicle's paint work, I'd suggest walking in.
Good hide in a part of Walhalla I didn't know existed.

An awesome day was had, out and about today cache hunting.
Found five, DNF two & placed 2
Travelled 165 K's Furthest cache I looked for from home was 32 Kilometres away as the crow flies.
Left home at 9 and got back at 4.

This was the fourth cache of the day. I took the Maidentown Trk to GZ. This track was also being used by the Traralgon Harriers running group as part of there 50Km track run. (I bet they were surprised seeing a Nissan Pathfinder navigating the track which was quite narrow in parts with growth.) I only got to within 234 meters of GZ as there was a tree across the track. Luckily I was able to back up about 100 metres and do a 5 point turn and head back the way I had come.

The co-ords where spot on, I found the cache straight away and I duly signed the log.

Thanks for bringing me up to this great spot, and also the history lesson.

'Scrat' visited your cache whilst on his Great Aussie Adventure.

2013: 361 Days In A Row - A great cache!!! After a frustrating cache down in Walhalla we enjoyed a nice drive over here. The roads got narrower as it went, but we enjoyed every minute of it! Smile We even saw two lyrebirds on the journey that we happened to capture on video. A interesting place to end up. Thanks for the fun drive and the cache.

This was a fun cache. The road got narrower and narrower as we drove along it, so glad I wasn't behind the wheel however at gz there was a great amount of space to pull up! As we were driving we managed to see not one but two lyre birds!!! And because of this, the drive in and the wonderful gz spot, this is totally going on my fav list!!!!!! TFTC Smile

Found this cache easily enough, after driving the long way round.
After opening the cache (which was hidden properly) we discovered that it must have been muggled at some stage as the log book contained two pages of offensive drivel, and the cache contained a crushed coke can.

Coordinate Accuracy: Excellent (Under 2 metres)
Cache Condition: Container and log book are in good shape.
Took: Rubbish and two offensive log pages.
Left: Keyring

@ 3pm Cache #784
We were camped at Coppers Creek campground on a Tyre tubbing/ rafting weekend down the Thomson River. Not much time for Geocaching only four caches for the whole weekend but all good ones, this was number four and found pretty quickly after walking straight up along side the cemetery, Quite a climb! Been coming to Walhalla. since I was very young and don’t ever recall coming up here to Pig Point.
Had an awesome weekend doing some really cool stuff and this cache was a bonus
Thx for the cache placement and showing me more of this historical area

A bit tricky getting to this one. I think we took the long way up from Walhalla as the track was a bit overgrown. Tried to go down by the shorter track but it was blocked by a recent tree fall. Thanks for the cache and the history. I didn't know about this site up on the hills. Tony and John.

Spending the weekend in Rawson with a group of Square Dance friends. Today we drove out to this town for a historical walk. The town was nice. It is good to see it done up and maintained.
After lunch Xambo4U, Cati and myself we out caching. We had a few attempts trying to find the path to the cache.
1st attempt was near the station, we walked up a path only to come to a flat piece of land.
2nd attempt was walking up through the cementary. We gave up on that option when the hill was getting too steep.
3rd attempt was to see information from the local shops. They told us to go to the bush track up behind the printing press. Initially was took the wrong path and had to back back in the 4x4. We didn't know if we could turn the Mr Xambo4U's 4x4 around so we walked the path. When we got to GZ we called Mr Xambo4U to come and pick us up.
Cati liked to pigs so we swapped Pigs for a Toy Car and some pins.
I would never had come up this track if it wasn't for caching. It is disappointing to see nothing is here.

Started out driving up, but not sure wich way to go because the track seemed to turn to a private road. So we did the walk up option from the cemetary. Wow what a good workout, lost the misses half way up but I pressed on, no path, almost 45 degree slope in spots, to eventually sign the log. Pheeeweee!!! Took super marble game and left woolworths supermarket trolley token. Realy enjoyed the challenge, thanks AissieRAVer.

2.30 Staying at Rawson for the weekend with a bunch of squares. Having completed the historical walk around Walhalla in the morning we had some spare time to try some caching in the area. We tried one track straight up which lead us to some previous owners flat piece of land. Option 2 was straight up through the cementary, which proved to be to much so back to the car. Went to the info centre to see if she could help. She first sent us up the wrong road. We finally worked out which one we were supposed to be on, Toycar, Cati and Mrs X started walking. Nice easy unsealed road and we soon realised the beast could have driven in. We found the cache easily only to find that there was a kindered cacher in town today. We then rang our driver to come and pick us up.
A bit disappointed in that we saw no remains of anything here.
Left toycar and pencil and took 2 figurettes
Thanks for the cache

Found it easily at 1553hrs once we had managed to reach the area. Came up the back way by 4wd and nearly turned back as it was a little overgrown in places. Also missed an important turn however we pressed on and were rewarded with a find. Not as many ruins here as I thought there may have been however it was an interesting historical area to explore. TNLNSL Thanks AussieRAVer for giving us reason to explore new territory.

Tried climbing up from the cemetery - not the easiest approach unless you're a mountain goat. I took a tumble and lost my glasses somewhere above the cemetery. If anyone else is silly enough to try the climb and finds a pair of black framed Gucci specs, please drop me a line.

Needless to say, I didn't find the cache...

#273 Found at 3.05pm. Driving along this ridgeline we had the co-ords in the Magellan and were driving toward a whole bunch of hikers camped up there when we realised we had driven past GZ. So with the muggle hikers looking on with confusion (amusement?) we started reversing to GZ. I think they thought we were a bit daft as they beat a hasty retreat to their fire (it was 4.9degrees at Mount Baw Baw at lunchtime), so Dad was able to make a quick find. Interesting history associated with this cache - wished we'd had more time for exploring.

Was camping in Walhalla overnight, at the pub, as I was competing in a 4WD Navigation Rally on the weekend. Got up early enough to attempt this cache on foot and it certainly was a hard trek. Cache was 270m from my swag but it took me just over 35mins. to walk to it. Found cache @ 0700 and had a 5 min. break before returning back down from the ridge. Note to those who would like to walk/hike to this cache. Shortest route from main road is to take the walking track, sth of pub, up to the cemetery car park then follow the nth fence of the cemetery up to an old, disused vehicle track. Follow this track until your GPS points directly uphill and then start climbing! Trek not suited to geokids.

Talked about this cache and how and get there when we were at the tourist info shop earlier so we had some idea how to get here. The lady said we couldn't drive to it even in a 4WD and we'd need to walk. I saw that the first part of the road was bitumen so I decided to head up for a look anyway and we drove all the way to the cache without even selecting 4WD. The lady must have been senile or perhaps a raving greenie. It's quite an easy drive although a tad muddy in one spot. Having said all that I probably wouldn't drive an ordinary car up here.
Got some phone reception at GZ and a fathers day message from one of my sons so that was a bonus. Geojen added a few piggies to the cache but after I told her what used to occur here she wished she hadn't.
Thanks.

After a pleasant day in Walhalla, this was an easy drive in the 4wd(but in 2wd) though Mrs Dingbat worried about steep sides, our commodore would have got there as well. Cache found by L while I was changing wheel thanks to sidewall staking. At $238 it became my most expensive cache to date. TNLN

10-Mar-08
Found on a hot long weekend Monday by riding up to GZ on my mountain bike. But future cachers please note - I could have driven my air conditioned commodore sedan up there no problems in the dry conditions. Found the container completely exposed as the rocks had slid off so I found another large rock and braced it up a bit so the downhill gradient doesnt shift them. TFTC TNLN

We were going to give this one a miss as we thought that the walk would be too much so late in the day until Al read those 3 lovely letters from the cache notes, "4wd" Big Grin. We all piled into the GeoPaj and made this a nice easy drive-by at 16:00.

We came in from Maidentown Track to this one, but only after we had to make a few u-turns on tracks that ended up taking us too far away. We weren't in a rush today, so not having any maps actually made it fun to try and find the right track to this cache. The 4wd had no worries getting around the area today, and once we were at GZ we made the find quite easily. TNLN & SL at 2:20pm. Thanks AussieRAVer for the cache, we really enjoyed getting out into the bush and seeing an area with great history!

21-Oct-07
After an eventful bucks night at Rawson last night I decided to get away from the mayhem nice and early for a trip to Walhalla. It's a place I have wanted to visit for some years and as I was so close I made sure I got some extra sleep last night for an early start.

After a tour through the town I made the trek up the mountain, keen to perpetuate the myth that my commodore is fully 4WD capable. Some parts were quite difficult and in hindsight I wouldn't try it again, but I did get the car up without damage. The new cache location threw me a bit because they didn't seem out of place, however it didn't take me long to find the cache. I took my time to enjoy the great weather and views of the historical location, I could almost smell that porky goodness! I couldn't believe I was third to find either, this is a beautiful part of the world, I thought others would be visiting regularly.

Thanks AussieRAVer.

Nice little drive by. The cache is now about 2ft from where it is supposed to be because not all of us are weight lifters - took me quite a while to extract the container. NOTE to future searchers - in the middle of summer with no rain you could drive the family sedan to the spot if you took it easy in the potholes. TFTC AussieRAVer

Found at 11:25. With Mrs Crisp Image at the wheel we departed home and had a short drive to the Walhalla area. Using Oziexlporer I directed her to the maiden town track end. We started along the track as far as we could with the 2WD. The mud was not deep but we thought it was better safe than sorry. So parked the car, took geodog and went on an easy 3.1km round trip. The sun was shining as I retrieved the cache. A very interesting place. We looked around for a while at the hut areas and tries to imagine what it would have been like in it's heyday. We signed the log. This was my 10th FTF in a row! We took in the sun and plenty of fresh air but nothing else.
Thanks AussieRAVer for this little adventure. (Did you give your new 4X4 an workout?)
Oh and I forgot the stash note. I had it on my laptop but it would not fit into the cache container.
Regards
Mr & Mrs Crisp Image (and Geodog)
