Some very nice camping areas around here, with much water activities taking place. Great spot to stop for a bite to eat. TFTC
01/07/2020 Found it. Wet and a little chilly. About 7 metres of long grass to get through at the end
Fun drive through the pine plantation. Made one wrong turn but once we sorted that out, it was a quite a quick and easy find. Thanks for the cache
TFTC A great Place to camp. We had perfect weather and stayed at Lake Tinaroo for 2 weeks. I'm just loving the Grey Nomad lifestyle.
We found this one on our road trip up the coast after camping here at Lake Tinaroo for one night. Thanks.
While spending a few weeks in Walkamin we decided to have a day grabbing a couple if caches we hadn’t found in the past.
How amazing to see the lake so full at last...absolutely stunning. We cooked ourselves a bbq lunch near the Avenue of Honour and then headed off around the lake.
We were able to drive to within 6 metres of the cache from the beautiful campground here.
The grass for that 6 metres was about 2metres high but Geohubby followed a nice little ‘wallaby’ tunnel to the cache
Many thanks for the hide Danielc . Great to be finding another one of your hides

If you want to go, go now I’ve cleared a path ha and you can drive along the foreshore!
Amazing spot. Paddled across the lake from Deep Creek campsite and beautiful campsite discovery
Quick trip in the boat from our Downfall Creek campsite to grab this one. Number 15 for our camping trip. TFTC
Had a drive around the north side of the lake to view the historic remains exposed by the low water level, including the much-photographed fireplace and chimney at the far southwestern end of the Fong On peninsula.
Low water level also made it possible to drive fairly close to the cache, so the long grass wasn't too much of an issue.
Cache in good condition but a bit short of swaps. Left an orange plane, took tiny FRED-style tin opener.
Thanks for the cache!

Late log, long way between Maca's when on the road.
Signed log and left calling card.
Those freshwater mussels look pretty tempting apart for the 'TOXIC GREEN ALGAE" warning.
Showing a group of local and International plus a bunch of my own new tB's for a Tour of Australia.

Today we headed to Tinaroo Dam area to find the caches that we had not completed since our last visit and this was one of them. At GZ we made a quick find, the water is very low at the lake.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.

Overgrown is an understatement & the need for protective clothing is not to be ignored - this cache is well protected by over head high grass that leaves nettle-like hairs in unprotected skin. Wouldn't recommend for geokids at the moment unless their hero is Professor Livingstone. That said, once these defences were breached, the cache was quickly found & is in a cool spot. Thanks for another great cache Danielc!
Up camping for the weekend with ranchi85 and Gromit and what a perfect chance to find this cache. Was able to get within 6m by vehicle before I had to clear a small path through the high grass. Once there easy find.

We were exploring this side of Lake Tinaroo on a beautiful sunny day and decided to hunt for this geocache. It is lovely and easy to get to by boat, but unfortunately the grass was higher than head height, so we have put this find on the "to do another day" list.
It was kinda bumpy to come here but it was on our way. Nice spot but sadly blue algae are in the lake so we couldn't swim in it.
opted to park the geomobile and take a nice walk along the foreshore but could have driven all the way to GZ easily.
spotted the tree and pushed through some long grass to find the cache and log in good condition.

After we arrived at the parking area and the Bear finished his whinge about a 2km round trip we set off for the GZ. Once there Cat ventured into the long grass and made the find.
We never would have known about this camping spot if it wasn't for Geocaching.

Nice walk, dad,s nails had split so glad to find nail clipper and emery board. Thank you. ( from u k )
And another nice walk along the lake. The high grass on the last 5m was already flattened, either from other cachers or maybe local wildlife.

TFTC great spot. Found on a camping trip and the grass is quite long. Thanks to Corika for knocking the grass down a bit for me.
Wow, I love this place. The grass is super long getting in to gz but a track is seeable. Cheers TFTC, who would of guessed there'd be one here.
Cache dry and in great condition. Thanks for sending us down this way. Left car took rock thingy.

08:30 - Grass is soooo high one could not see the trees for the forest. managed to weave though to GZ. found cache in company of Walterhellmut+Ingrid (my personal guide & chauffeurs 2day). +/-0. T4TC.
An easy walk down the track but the last few metres were a jungle. My legs are still suffering now. Read the advice and wear long trousers. Left TB TFTC.
Hi all,
I went out to check this cache today. Changed the container to one less likely to be feasted upon. Glad to report that the track from the first parking place indicated has been cleaned up and is now a very pleasant stroll. After summer storms it may change, however.
Cheers, and good hunting,
Dan

Given the low dam water level and the comments in the "Camels" log, we too were inspired to follow the well defined track to about 70 metres from the GZ.
The final walk to the GZ was not of note apart from the last 5 metres, which was through some very long grass.
The cache was identified easily enough. The protective bag is breaking down and the lid of the container has been feasted upon.
Thanks Danielc for another cache which took us off the beaten track.

Walk up the road but was bushed with some 260 metres to go. The grass was just too tall to contemplate forcing a way through. retraced my path and tried along the foreshore where there was only a 30metre section of waist high grass before I had to head inland and again I was faced with about fifty metres of grass that varied from knee to head high. Found the cache easily at GZ and after shaking out the bug that had nested in the surrounding bags I completed the log and left a magnet. Returned the cache to its hide and followed the foreshore back. TFTC
We had been bracing ourselves to complete this cache for quite a while now, with the description and log notes making it out to be quite difficult. However, at this time of year and with the little rainfall we have had during winter, the water level was very low and it was an easy drive along the well defined track all the way to the cache (we did have to turn a blind eye to the "no cars" sign which is something we would normally not do, but the track was very well used so we didn't feel too bad about our misdemeanor). We only had to battle long grass for the final three meters. Took a pack of playing cards, left a penny and a baseball whistle. TFTC.
Water, water oh dear!! Yep took this option, twice. Once we were only 89 metres away, but the jungle growth was impassable. So it was from the other side of that watery expanse and from there we were about 500 metres from GZ. Wearing only shorts, thongs, and weroamin sporting his best bare feet footwear - we opted out.
Hi all,
Seeing from the preceding log that the cache needed a new pencil, Danielv and I took a couple in this afternoon. We forced our way through the grass which was well above my head in places. The route in is possible, but difficult and I cannot stress the need for protective clothing enough. We walked back along the edge of the water. At the moment a much better option, though the water is rising fast and it may not be so easy in the near future. By boat is the best bet.
Cheers and good hunting!

Found it, quite easy, got there by canoe. The cache needs a new pencil.

Found it using a boat, went opposite and walked to it.Cache still dry ,a hole in lid from a rat??plus a couple in the outer bag .Pencil a little small.
Canoed up to this one with Sandy... Was quite unprepared - we were barefoot and in shorts, so there was a lot of running and hopping (as though that's going to dodge the snakes)
There was a massive spider in the bag, so in the spirit of that we took a spider. We didn't swap it out... this was the first serious cache for us and we really needed some proof to nay saying members who stayed back at the camp...
we also took a couple of paralysis ticks with us for the rest of the day
signed the log book and left the rubber spider at treasure island

After swimming to treasure island the walk through the grass was, no words for it. We battled the grass and won, didn't see Danielc's snake but that was OK. Took fairy godmother and left blue crab and bug in ball
The first treasure for a pirate adventure on Lake Tinaroo. This cache is fairly easy when approached by boat, however the last 50m of long grass still harboured at least one snake that we saw. TNLN. TFTC.
Hi All
We did a maintenance run on this one today. Cache is ok. Changed the protective plastic bag - the old one was really chewed. However, this one has changed from a pleasant stroll to a gruelling shove through head high guinea grass. The water is so high that the edge route is also almost impassible. Frankly, unless you have access to water transport, I would leave this one until State Forest people put a vehicle along the track, or the water drops a metre or so. If you like a challenge, and want to have a go for this one, then long trousers, long sleeve shirt, and eye protection is strongly recommended. Gaiters would be good also, as in one of the few bare patches of road, I came across one of the biggest, (over 2 metres), most shiny, jet, black snakes I have ever seen. It was really beautiful in a sinister sort of way. Made walking where I couldn't see through the grass a bit of an adventure, however.
Cheers, and Good Hunting, Dan.

Went for a long trek through the long grass and over the fallen trees to bag this one. Muggles already heading home from Easter weekend so place practically deserted.

A nice walk down to the cache. GZ is ringed by a 3m high barrier of scratchy grass. Thanks to walterhellmut for partially flattening down a track through the grass. SL. TNLN.
[Pleasant easy walk with a nice view on the lake, beautiful half rainbow. At the cache] the Guinea Grass was so high, I would not have traversed it, [if Walter had not done it.
Found it without following the clue, because we left the cache description home. The hide is really great, well camouflaged. We signed the logbook just before a heavy downpour and reached the car totally wet, although using our umbrellas.

An easy find after a pleasant stroll through the forest. Ballbag & Bumblebee, I am not sure what GZ you were after, we found this one pretty easy. My parents were able to do the walk quite easily, and only avoided the last dive into the long grass to retrieve the cache.

L: Mobile phone sharpener
This was my parents first cache, they enjoyed the experience and went on to do some more over Christmas with us.
Whilst I have camped at Tinaroo many times, I have never visited Fong On - saw some impressive sized camp setups!

Hi,
Went out to check the cache. All is well with it except some creature has chewed the protective plastic bag pretty thoroughly. There is no longer a pig trap close to the site. As the last log indicated grass about the GZ is long and coarse. Protective clothing a must.
Cheers, Dan

Ballbag&Bumblebee were a bit bewildered by this one. Access to a 4WD meant that we were able to get almost right up to GZ. The long grass was a bit of a put-off, but Ballbag's brother decided to go bush-wacking (nettle sting and all!!). He made us aware of a vehicle track and the most likely spot for GZ. The only issue was that the grass was over head height and there was a pig trap right beside GZ. Wasn't will to let any of the caching group enter the unknown without appropriate protection and cutting instrument. Also, we weren't too keen on picking up anymore hitch-hikers of the blood sucking variety (yes watch out for scrub ticks!!).
Will come back another time when we are better prepared.

Spent a few nights at Fong On Bay for the Tinaroo Barra Fishing Competition. Didn't catch any Barra but managed to find this cache. Hadn't been to Tinaroo for over 10 years and was really impressed with Fong On Bay. Had a great time and was glad to get a cache in while I was at it. Thanks...
