#15499 - 3:09:00 PM; Day 14 of the great USA and Canada Road Trip with Sol de lune, and the first leg which has taken us from Minneapolis through to Washington DC, is nearly done with our arrival in DC last night. After visiting Arlington National Cemetery we move on to the National Mall, with a short detour to collect this virtual. Gathered the required information, which was sent to the CO to get the OK.Greetings from Australia and TFTC Garmen (& Women) Group
Was tipped off about this virtual cache as I was passing by on a 21km+ IVV walk today, so made a short detour to gather the required information and make the find. Technically the location was closed, but the entry gate was part pen so I was able to slip inside. Answer gathered and sent. TFTC.
We were off to the USA and Canada for a few weeks of holiday, and thoroughly enjoyed traveling around, and visiting the many different places and caches we came across
This one was next up on our cycle tour around DC today, so we pulled up down the street, and tied the bikes up. We went for the short walk, and quickly spotted the information needed, before heading back off to grab a few others in the area The Forest Service in the US is remarkably different to Australia, and it is very interesting to see the difference in the way in which geocaching is treated [^]

A group from the South Jersey Geocachers made our way to the beautiful city of Washington DC. This was one of our many stops on a gorgeous day. We overshot gz but a helpful guard pointed us in the right direction. Once inside we read and found the info needed. mail sent, thanks for bringing us here!
Came to DC from western Maryland with lpyankeefan, tazscouter, legoladz to meet up with a group from southern Maryland in order to attend the WWFM Event. The group also managed to find many other caches including many terrific Virtuals and Earthcaches while in the area. Had a great day walking from cache to cache while taking in everything this great city has to offer.
This cache was my 522nd cache find. It was number 1 of 30 caches for the day which included 0 DNFs. I am a geocacher from Hagerstown, Maryland and have been caching since April 2010. Thanks for the fun, Garmen (& Women) Group!

In Washington for a virtual cache run before visiting Ford's Theater, really enjoyed seeing Smokey's Office!
Greetings from Minneapolis. Email when I get back to hotel. Thanks for bringing me to this spot.
Stopped in to say hi to smokey the bear and grab the info for this one on another of our long walks all over DC. Was unsure if it was still accessible, but then spotted the entry point.
Thanks for bringing us here, email to be sent shortly.

At first I missed the entrance due to the scaffolding in front of the building, but a security guard pointed me in the right direction and whola there old Smokey was! TFTC!

We found this one during our today's virtual harvest in and around the Mall. We did not spend much time in the center, as we wanted to visit some of the Smithsonian expositions, and were running out of time.
Thanks for the cache.

Greetings from an Australian caching team on holidays in America
We have traveled from New Orleans via Key West to here and this has been a great place to spend the afternoon walking around.
We parked over at the L'Enfant Plaza it cost us $20 for the day and walked over to Capitol Hill via a visit to the space museum.
Then we got a taxi over to the Lincoln memorial and then walked back to the car.
This was one of many Virtual's along the way.
Mrs Parrot was feeling very tired by now but that didnt stop her being the one who made this find possible. She spotted the boarded up entrance after I had walked straight past it.

Came along here after visiting the Holocaust Museum. I couldn't find the entrance at first due to the maintenance but eventually got there. TFTC!

For a minute I was worried that we would not be able to claim this one with all the construction around, but then ItMustBeJames set my mind at ease. Thanks for the cache!!!
Grabed it during the sideseeing tour in DC at this rainy day... get wet till my bones. TFTC dunestar
Jeanne and I stopped by here today as we explored more of the National Mall on foot. It was a tiring day but filled with interesting stops! Definitely not where you would expect the Forest Service people to be located. Answer emailed. Thanks for setting up this cache.
#2456 - This was a somewhat unusual cache. We visited the Holocost Museum in the morning, and while on our way in, I forgot about my Leatherneck multi tool that I always have in my backpack, along with my flashlight and other sundry geocaching tools. Well, the 4" blade on it was viewed as being problematic by the security guards, so I had to exit, go behind the museum where I found some scaffolding and a temporary ramp in front of a red brick building underneath which I hid the offending article. Then I went back thru security and joined my wife and daughter for 2 or 3 rather sombre hours in the museum.
Upon exiting the Holocost museum, I retrieved my multi tool from under the ramp, and we started walking towards the Federal Archives building. I eventually switched on my GPSr, and checking for caches, saw that the closest was the virtual cache "Forest Service Info Center" 0.2 miles away, so my wife and daughter went for an ice cream while I doubled back following my GPSr. Imagine my surprise when it zeroed out exactly at the spot by the ramp in front of the red building where I had already twice stopped in the previous hours. The building entrance doorway was accessible through the scaffolding, so I was able to go inside and photo the plaque with the needed information.
Email sent a few days ago. Thanks for the enjoyable virtual cache.

Stopped by this spot while out doing some waymarking and geocaching in the rain in DC with Chimo Guy. Ambulance and fire truck parked out front. What the heck was going on????
Came by on a Sunday, so we weren't sure we could get the required info. However, the necessary area was open even though the main building was not. Thanks. Answer sent.
Was worried I wouldn't be able to get to it because of the construction but it wasn't a problem! Will hopefully send email tonight or tomorrow. TFTC!
Hi from Atlanta. Emailing answers. Thanks, I don't think I would have known about this otherwise.
E-mail sent with answer. Nice spot that I probably would have never gone to. TFTC
A gorgeous warm spring day and doing a few virtuals in the Mall among the crowds of the Cherry Blossom Festival. Some scaffolding and works going on about the entrance, but found my way in and located the plaque without any trouble. If I had more time, I would have liked to take better look inside. Thanks Gar(wo)men Group, email sent.
I was suffering blindness trying to find the correct building (and it is not small...) Oh well, got there in the end. Thanks.

This was cache number 18 on the day for Mrs SeeKPeeKRs and I. We were on a "Virtual Tour" of DC. We ended up picking up 25 caches today as well as walking just under twelve, yes 12, miles. I know that personally I would not have stopped here if I hadn't been "told to." It is a very interesting location We enjoyed the area. Thanks for keeping this one going. (email sent)
The Biologist was in town on business today and couldn't resist finding a few virtuals before catching her flight back to Jacksonville, Florida. She used to work for the Forest Service out in California several years back, but had never visited the D.C. HQ before. E-mail on the way.

Somehow, without a GPS this is quite hard to find. Quite annoying when the battery is quite empty. It turns out that some of the signs are just missing. Perhaps we should have read the description better. We found it in the end
Visiting from Abingdon, VA and found with PanicBear. Although we arrived after the posted hours we still had access to the necessary info. Thanks for the hunt...answer sent.
Finally managed to nail one of the first caches I tried in DC. After five months here, inbetween visiting the Holocaust Museum and going up the Monuement I managed to sneak this in. Woohoo! Cheers Gav [127]
