Same for me - I'll add another DNF to the list. With the last (real?) successful find in 2017 and no response or action by the CO to all the DNFs since I suggest this cache needs Archiving IMHO.

Caching with gorby, we started at the top, then came down to look at the information panels. Did not want to walk away, so searched at the bottom, but still the cache remained elusive. Suspect its gone? the CO might have to check on this one Sad

Walksabit and I are now touring the North Island after spending 23 days on the South Island. Today we are travelling from Castle Point to Mangaweka and this cache was near the camp site we were staying at. Having found Ruahine Rd. Bridge I went back to the camper and recruited Walksabit to go to this cache with me. The walk to the dam was amazing as were some of the rocks in the river. Thanks for such an interesting cache.

We went up and down and up and down until we finally found this one. It wasn't actually too tricky we just missed it. We think some people were up to no good in their car when we first stop. Oh well they were busy and so were we. TFTC Smile

#3947. After a short stay in Rotorua, I am getting a ride back to Wellington today with Infoferret and her son. We decided to pick up a few caches on the way south but will try to be a bit restrained compared to our recent trips away in the southern North Island where 50+ caches per day were targeted. I had noticed these two caches near Mangaweka before setting off today and thought they would be worth checking out. The scenery here is quite spectacular with the huge eroded cliffs nearby and the old style river bridge over the Rangitikei River. This cache hiding spot was a surprise. Had not expected to find display boards in such an obscure spot. I was searching up high in all the wrong places. Be careful of those cliffs close to the GZ! Luckily IF's son took off down the path to the display boards and soon returned with the cache. Nice hiding spot. Signed the log and replaced the cache where found. Thanks for the cache MalcolmB.

TFTC. I had forgotten how amazing the cliffs are here! The lad as usual got to it first (I've trained him well)? Did a bit of CITO here, though there is plenty more to be done!

On a weekend mission with Cats&Dragons, for a bit of a numbers run along the new trails around the Northern Manawatu area, and anything else along the way. As usual these types of trips mean maximizing caching time and minimizing sleep time. So with a 2am start time Saturday morning we left home and headed South, and not getting back home til 8.30pm Sunday night. Some numbers for the trip as I know we all like caching stats are:
* 1450km traveled.
* 286 caches found (192 on Saturday, 94 on Sunday) with only 3 DNF's
* 4 hours sleep
* With a 3 hour each way drive to the Caching area, so about 32 hours of caching in the 42 hours we were away at an average of nearly 9 caches per hour, this isn't including stopping for fuel and coffee!!!

So a huge thanks to all the CO's for the placements, and for the reason to see some more of our wonderful country, we saw some pretty amazing places. Sorry for the copy and paste logs. We signed the log books HKCD, or HKCBC&D.

Got stuck looking in a few wrong spots before working out what the hint was pointing at. Thanks for the hide.

A pleasant walk up to the bridge and along to the power house for the cache. Checked out the dam on the other side as well, lovely spot. Further up the road a bit you get a great view of the viaduct bridge and the river cliffs.. Thanks for the cache.

Another find on the great north summer roadtrip with the Banians- a week of travel from Wellington to Auckland via Napier, Wairoa, that secluded road between Wairoa and Rotorua, and almost the Coromandel peninsula.

Cache took some finding, and afterwards we trekked to the dam in question. Excellent piece of infrastructure. TFTC

pulled up to this cache and hung around the car as a middle aged couple were looking around, thought oh they maybe cachers, go over to head to the cache, and they ask me if I like bridges as they passed me while looking for another cache, so explained what I was doing the hubby had heard about it before and so I explained how it all worked we all looked for the cache I found it explained how important it was not to just pull it out and show "muggles" what you are doing, they both loved it as there hobby is visiting random places so would fit well, wrote the website down for them and explained the phone app etc etc.... so thanks for cache and meeting new people Smile

Found on a >41 hour non-stop geo roadtrip from Wellington to Auckland via Cape Palliser and a whole bunch of skinny winding Wairarapa roads, in the esteemed company of slieschke, mike-miss and cretti. We picked up our rental car, dubbed the Idiot Box, and assumed our new identity as Team CRT, shortly after 8am at Wellington Airport and headed north.

We first headed to Porirua Harbour to take on the resident Kiwi geo art trail before heading over to the southern Wairarapa and Cape Palliser where we visited the light house at about midnight and tried our best to avoid seals while searching for a few caches along the southern most shore line of the North Island.

We headed up past Greytown and Carterton, focussing on caching areas west of SH2 this trip. There were some highlight caches, particularly around Carterton (I think) and some way up in the hills looking over the whole area from Masterton to Martinborough.

It was daylight again by the time we hit Masterton and we decided to hit fast forward and skip a planned area (will just have to come back again!) and shot through to Palmerston North where we got back into the swing of things.

We took the back-road up to Mangaweka, discovering some really fanstastic little places along the way, like a picnic area and waterfall way down in a canyon, and then we continued via Taihape, across and up through Owhango, to get some really old caches, and then north through Te Awamutu and back to Auckland to drop off the Idiot Box at the airport.

And of course, despite it then being after 1am on Monday morning, and raining kinda heavily, slieschke and I couldn't resist driving over to the North Shore for an FTF on a cache published earlier in the evening.

Thanks to all the cache owners along the way, even if we couldn't find your cache - all part of the adventure! Sorry for the copy/paste log, but just too many caches to remember *all* of them individually.

Great spot, just had to wait for a couple of muggles to leave before we could make the retrieve. TFTC!!! Big Grin

A plan was hatched for yet another extreme, fly down, drive back caching weekend from Wellington to Auckland. This time, Cretti and slieschke joined in on what turned out to be another epic road trip with myself and funkymunkyzone (our third trip this year).
We all met up at Wellington Saturday morning as i ended up being on an earlier flight to the rest of the crew. Jumped in our rental which happened to be a Ssangyong SUV this time round and headed straight to Porirua Harbour to hit the Kiwi GeoTrail. From there on, we zig zagged our way through Wiararapa to Cape Palliser, back up through Martinborough, Masterton, Ekatahuna, Pahiatua, Palmerston North, Taihape, Te Awamutu and back home to Auckland in the early hours of Monday morning.

To save time and log space, we stamped the logs as "Team CRT" travelling in the idiot box for the weekend. Lots of laughs were had over our 1500km+ / 41 hour road trip which consisted mainly of narrow gravel roads, some of which had spectacular scenery and views. Sorry for the copy/paste logs as its now all abit of a blur having only a few short naps in between. Many thanks to all the cache owners who have placed caches for us to find on another epic little adventure.

Interrupted a couple of old buggers having a beer at GZ. They moved on as soon as we got there but we had parked behind them. Cache quickly found and log signed. TFTC! Big GrinBig Grin

Found in the company of Cretti, funkymunkyzone and mike-miss on a crazy Wellington to Auckland road trip in the idiot box. We traveled via the Kiwi GeoTrail in Porirua, the Wairarapa including Cape Palliser, the Manawatu, and back to Auckland via the western side of the Central Plateau. Signed as Team CRT. Despite very little sleep the weekend was a blast!

Had to outwait some locals having a quiet one but they didn't take too long to move on.

Thanks!

On the road again with Gap (of Fap and Gap). Up at the crack of dawn to travel down-country to an event in Kimbolton... The things we do for an August Souvenir.

Heading homeward now and a lot of distance to cover. This cache took ages to find. Our iPhones pointed into the roadside scrub. Repeated searching did nothing but cause frustration. Finally, we decided to widen our search area, and the cache was found lying out in the open. Visitors mustn't look here. TFTC.

24-Aug-14
Needed to do an event cache to get our August souvenir challenge. Problem was, where is an event cache close by. Mrs Fap found one 300km away in Kimbleton, there appeared to be nothing closer. Phoned Squirrel Nutcas who was a keen starter so Kimbolton it was. All this way so planned to pick up a few more on the way. Left Rotorua at 6am and back home by 8.30pm with 58 caches found, not a bad day at all.

5pm - Co Ords a bit out, read hint and log is full. SLTFTC

Actually found this on Monday 23 June - it was my first ever find and in fact the first time I had ever heard of geocaching was when I checked in to stay the night at Awastone River Haven the night before. The proprietors there told me about it and so I googled it and here I am Smile
Thoroughly enjoyed the experience and have gone on now to find one each day of the week long trip that I am taking as I relocate from Raglan in the Waikato to Pleasant Point in South Canterbury.
I am looking forward to finding many many more in the future.
At short notice I have written "Geocaching Rocks!" on a collection of stones found at Awastone and have been leaving them in each cache that Ive found.

My mega NZ MEGA 2013 Trip!! Split into two halves - first, the journey up, and then the second half was the actual MEGA time.

This was the first half. I ended up deciding that the best way to travel up for the MEGA was by doing a rental relocation. Jucy had FAR too many cars in Chch that needed going to Auckland, and so with the pick of the crop I went for the 4WD... naturally, being a cacher, I knew this would come in handy!
They paid the vehicle on the ferry, paid the insurance, and gave me a free tank of gas as well as 5 days to get up to Auckland! What more could you want?!!
This was my 196th cache of the trip.

Sorry about the mostly copied logs - but otherwise I would still be logging till Christmas - and that's Christmas 2014 I mean! Haha.

TFTC!! Smile

A MEGA Adventure

Both Nova Lightning and myself had set ourselves caching targets that we were hoping to meet in time for the NZMEGA in a few weeks. So with a plan in progress and fuel in the tank away we set.
Departed home at 6pm Friday, returned home 3.30pm Monday, 7 hours sleep approx 470 caches and a great adventure.

Thanks to all those that have placed caches especially Skindo as I think we gave his caches a bit of a nudge

Thanks for a great weekend of Caching and Bull.

Mega Weekend

It all started about a month ago when Cats&Dragons brought up the idea of heading down the line to collect 350+ caches. We both had targets that we wanted to meet before attending the NZ Mega. Plans and locations were drawn up and puzzles were begun to be solved. It took me a while to get my head around a few of the puzzles and with the help of a cacher I was soon on a roll.

The weekend finally came and we departed Hamilton at 6pm on a Friday night. 3days, 2,000km, & 11hrs sleep, later 472 caches collected. Thanks to all those who's caches I found especially Skindo with a huge number laid.

I have a house guest from the USA, and John wants to see a bit of New Zealand. What better way than to intoduce him to geocaching via some rural caches? A beautifully sunny but cool day for a drive around the country. By the end of the day John was hooked and had created his login. Alas, he could not count today's caches as he didn't have a geonick yet to sign any logs.

My first thought was that I have been here before, but the generator room is a little different - I have been to a similar place. Or maybe my memory is confused... have a look at the beam above the shelter - 6 bird nests! Neat place. dropped in a path tag. John says... yet again, another cache too small to fit a USA flag. Maybe next one.
