Following the nearby Cito it was time for some caching shenanigans...this was one of the caches on the hitlist that we stopped to find on this glorious spring day while many a muggle were obsessing over the football. What's with Google saying this is a road?? Maybe for a bike but certainly not a car..
After dropping some family off at Avalon Airport, I made my way down to this spot. Well I had no idea this area existed. It started raining, and the jacket was deployed. At GZ, the cords were a little off, and they pointed to the rocks. After a short investigation, I abandoned that idea and sought a more suitable hiding location. I soon found the cache as it had fallen on the ground! After signing the log and taking a few happy snaps, I replaced it in what I think is the right location. Thanks!
4:00ish24 August 2024Cache found with catnap777 a little out of sorts......the cache that is, not cat'. We have no idea how we missed it last time while cat' and I were doing the Mad Max Multi. It wasnt a DNF, we just didnt notice the trad here. But back to Geelong, and back to these intriguing marshes, we sure weren't going to miss the End of Civilisation this time. And this time, making our way just a little further down the path, we found this little fella out in the open very close to GZ and close to what we can only assume is its proper hiding place. They both colour match. We could not however assume exactly how it was supposed to be hidden. We put it kind of within its hidey spot, but if there is a magnet involved, we didnt find it. We hope we havent contributed to the end of the End of Civilisation. [B)]TFTC Phetlern (and Rob and Chewin)The log was dry and in good condition. [^]
24 August 2024 16:02 dalerious and I really love this place. It feels like you're in the middle of nowhere, but you are do close to the great metropolis of Geelong. We have been here before doing a few Mad Max trads. They are an awesome series.Cache found in an appropriate camoed container. Thank you Phetlern, Robmc and Chewinprickles.
On my way to Lara sporties club fir lunch with ex colleagues when this beckoned meEasy findThank you for bringing me here and a smili
Wah ! It looks like a great walk if the weather was better! The cache container has aged beautifully and blends in with the environment!
Found it while out exploring the area, indeed this feels like the end of civilisation! Interesting spot!
Nice sunny day to be out collecting salt water for the Sea monkeys & a quick Geocache in a nice little spot. Snapped a quick photo of the YouYangs in the distance. TFTC!
Up from Melb and thought I would go somewhere I've never been and this cache delivery. Well worth the effort. Thanks
Grabbed this one on the way back from the CITO. Wasn't actually looking for it but saw it on the way past. Tftc in this lovely spot!
After a very long break Geokid #3 is all grown up and moved out of home and got back into it. I decided to spice things up but doing it in the dark. Before a morning shift I left home early and headed down to Corio Bay. A lovely little walk with salt filling my nose. After playing in the rust I found it. Tftc
Today we found End of Civilisation on our travels and we were very pleased to make the find having had a DNF here 12 years ago! The bay was very calm today but I recall it being a wild day all those years ago. What a quiet corner of a busy world the home owners have here! Lucky them. Thanks Phetlern for being part of our geocaching fun.
Alarm sounds at 3:50 am. Time to awaken and head over to pick up one daughter from my other daughters place and take her to Avalon airport for her 6 am flight. I jump into the car from our Airbnb that’s just up the road, noticing that for a change, it’s not freezing cold and blowing a gale!
Arrive at my daughters house with enough time for a quick coffee and then back into the car for the 25 minute drive to drop the other daughter off at 5am. It’s been a busy weekend, my granddaughter’s first birthday which is now being shared with the daughter is just dropped off! So coincidental.
Being a cacher, I always try to grab any opportunity to find a random cache when I’m visiting here from NSW, and being so early, this was a perfect, but somewhat difficult, opportunity to do so. The challenge being, it wax dark, and would be for the next hour! Oh well, won’t let that stop me!
This first one looked interesting, but being dark, I was a little worried that I may raise the locals attention. But all went well. Pulled up in the area at the end of the road, spotting a camper in his truck, but they seemed not to stir. Walked down the path as the metres counted down and the the bird life scattered, I spied a likely spot and soon had CIH.

Out for a drive and of course some geo hunting. Thanks for an interesting spot and hide.
Well eventually found my first geocache went on a circumnavigation of Avalon but hey e eventually got there. ‘ End of civilisation’
Not having to pick my son up from Avalon Airport till later this afternoon I dragged sassieold55
along for the day to do some caches beforehand. Neither of us had never been here before an interesting beach, there was even some kids in the water today. Nice tricky hide here too. TFTC

Drove out here cause hubby thought he solve the nearby multi on the fly. Not!!!! So I picked up this one since we were out here. Not sure why anyone would want to live out here.
Found on a cold drizzly day . Certainly feels like the end of civilisation. Interesting scenery and housing
Out with teamashy this morning. Last time I couldn't do it. This tine, during the week, it is nice and quiet. Signed log and returned as found. TFTC
It's the second last day of my season at Avalon Airport, so I headed down early to find a few caches before work.
This is an interesting out of the way little place.
There were a number of vehicles parked close to GZ, but no muggles to be seen.
A beautiful calm morning and a lovely outlook across the water.
A short walk to a likely hiding spot, and the well disguised container was soon in hand.

Heading towards a mission of ours we passed this one. The rest of them had it….and it wasn’t showing up on my ap…. So delete reinstall and done….. tftc
Ha ha, the end of civilisation indeed. We did enjoy walking around the red swamps looking for shells while we were in the cache vicinity..We backtracked and found the naturally camouflaged container easily.

Our first find for awhile. Such an interesting place we’ve never been before. TFTC
What agreat spot to find one night. Freezing cold winds kept our visit short but we will definitely be back out to explore once again. Easy find
Great excuse to ditch the books in lockdown ! Don’t expect any mints though ! Great camouflage, thanks.
Down this way today with Sean.75 and kenbryl doing a recon mission for a fishing spot. We took the opportunity to find some caches along the way. We had a laugh here as this one isn't much younger than kenbryl. tftc
Sean.75, kenare and I headed down this way for the day. Our plan was to check out a few fishing spots and find some caches along the way. We had a great day. tftc
Out this way with kenare and kenbryl for the day after being stuck at home. Easy find at Gz, cache is starting to blend in. Tftc
Having completed our early breakfast, we thought we could head out and find a few more caches in the beautiful weather we had today. We can see why this cache is named End of Civilisation, as it feels like you have journeyed to the end of the earth. There were plenty of cars parked at the parking spot, and it appeared that they were all fishermen. We took a short stroll to GZ and found the cache in the middle of the path. We retrieved the log and stamped it before returning the cache to the logical hiding spot given the fastening device in the cache and the camo of the cache. Thank you for this cache chewingprickles & Robmc and for continuing its life, Phetlern.
this was fun
I advise this one for little kids not to much looking
Took: nothing
left: nothing nothing there
book in good condition
Happy holidays

Worth it to come and see this interesting spot. The rust on the cache suits its environment.
I’m not sure what to make of this area, it’s certainly looks like the end of civilisation, but still has a certain charm. After losing a sandal at a nearby cache, I ambled slowly to this area, then sat back and watched Steve climbing over the rocks, checking everything for about 10 minutes until he finally spotted the cache. It certainly blends in well with the environment.
Thanks Phetlern for an interesting cache.
Thanks Phetlern for an interesting cache.
Now Cacheing has taken me to some strange and interesting places and this was a place worth visiting! Thanks for the hide in a place I wouldn’t of explored if it wasn’t for cacheing - gets a Fav and my TBs visited-
After a quick look around finally had the cache in hand.
As previous people have said the container is a bit rusty but still hanging in there.

Thanks for the cache and bringing me to this lovely sunny place. There was a clear view across the water to Geelong. It took me longer to find than I expected because I was relying on a previously posted pic of a red torch as a hint, but the torch was gone and was probably just washed up flotsam. SL. TN. LN.
Found this geocache with my geokid. Had fun climbing over the rocks on the way in. Found an interesting possible cache lol, see pic! TFTC
Hi there Phetlern.
We found your cache **"End of Civilisation"** today. (This makes our find count 24150).
We headed down to Altona Beach on a whim today. We were glad to venture out and enjoy a decent walk in the sunshine, but we didn't really have a successful geocaching day, we only found 5 caches & DNF'd 4 .
Over the years, Geocaching has taken us on many adventures and to lots of wonderful destinations all over Australia. Without 'caching as our guide we would never have found so many interesting places on our nomadic wanderings. 'Caching has also introduced us to a diverse group of like-minded people, many of whom we now call friends.
**Cache Condition:** The container and log book are in good shape.
**Took:** Nothing
**Left:** Smiley Badge.
Thank you for placing this cache here & adding to our adventure.
Regards
Ian & Penny

Couldn’t locate it a hint would be great however it was very cold and windy so I wasn’t keen to keep searching.
A quick find while down around Werribee, and what a place for a cache. Thanks for bring us out here.
Many places to hide a cache here so Grub62 and I were distracted. Then I went back to the obvious spot and finally found it. TFTC.
Out today with Bunadoorian to get a few different types of caches and to get some smiles on my map here. I had never been here before and found the experience very interesting. We started off with this one. After clambering over the barrier we found the area and thought we had searched GZ - but Bunadoorian went back and soon uttered the words - I've got it. TFTC and for bringing us to this area - Phetlern and chewinprikles and Robmc
Just wanted to find a couple of caches today with ilook4geo, to keep the caching hand in practice. Chose some close to home base which looked like they might be easy to find. This one was a quick find and we were happy to add two more names to the log before we went on our way. Mnay thanks go to Phetlern for adopting and maintaining this cache.
Out for a short jaunt this afternoon with goingplaces2, working not far from home. Found this one in first place checked. Cars in the parking area, but no muggles in sight. TFTC.
We were in the area today and decided hi stop and grab this cache along the way. Log and cache in great condition. Very unique part of Victoria.
Finally grabbed it! Spent so many hours looking in the wrong place and needed a hint from the obliging CO. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. My dog and I went climbing over so many rocks today. Beautiful view out here in such a random place. I’ve lived in Geelong my whole life and never been here. Should have spotted this cache straight away but had the wrong idea! TFTC
Well this was disappointing since I was expecting an easy grab. Looked in what I thought were likely places but no luck. Such a weird area out here! I’ll be back. Next time I might not bring my canine companion with me. He loved the new sniffs but thought it would be fun to jump straight off the rocks to the water (while I still had the lead in my hand!!!) and pulled me along with him! Lucky I’m good at landing on my feet!
