We regret that due to having moved out of Te Anau we can no longer maintain the cache.
Our NEW ZEALAND - TASMANIA - AUSTRALIA JOURNEY takes us to beautiful places and provides us with an incredible number of wonderful moments and experiences.Occasionally we also visit a few GeoCaches along the way.On the way back from Mt. Luxmor, we searched here for a very long time for the can. However, apart from the remains of rabbits, we found nothing...?????! This cache is probably no longer here!Thank you for placing, maintaining and caring snapfish2 from Switzerland????PS: Translated with the Deepl app??
Awesome one!! The cave network looks eerie! Quite a few rabbit remains around. Must be a bird of preys feeding location! TFTC - sorry I didnt see the log note before going up!
Visited cave down to where it starts getting narrow. On way back had a look for this. This gz looks like another cave entry. Soon hands got too cold fosicing in the snow so had to get back to hut.
Saw what looked like rabbit foot prints in the snow.

We were supposed to do the Kepler with a Year 11 group but the weather wasn't in our favour so we stayed a night at Luxmore and then headed back down. Fortunately, I was able to get the opportunity to take a few into the cave and grab the geocache while we were there
Guess I'm just going to have to find some opportunity to return!

Found this cache on our 1st day on the Kepler Track. We had a great ascent to Luxmore Hut, as it was not too hot and dry. The caves were awesome to visit. TFTC
Trouvée Nice easy find after a 7h walking day ! Last adventure before coming back inside the hut and enjoy the fire. Tftc
After a not so gentle stroll up the hill towards Mt Luxmore Hut, we got there and was rewarded with the caves! How spectacular. Thanks for keeping the cache alive. Great to have such an old one around still. Log is all good, no replacements required yet. TFTC
TFTC beautiful place and a nice poke around. Beware of holes in the ground.
Started looking behind the wrong rock, but on my way back to the path I found it. Sorry I didn't see your HELP message before, but everything was still dry. TFTC!

I came to this one while doing the whole loop over a four-day period with the geo-missus. Awesome weather the whole time. Of the five Great Walks we've done so far, this was the most challenging, mainly due to the elevation change. But the incredible views more than made up for it.
This was the fourth find of the walk, and it was in good shape! I really like the fact that it brought me to an interesting place, and I went pretty deep into the nearby cave. But, I was on my own, and so didn't lose sight of the way out. Nice also that I could drop my pack at the hut first before heading out here. Hint was very helpful.

Today we hiked up to Mount Luxmore. Really long and exhausting because of the hot weather. But beautiful views from top though. Some caches were a must-do. Fortunately found it quickly and went back down again. Tftc!
We hiked the Kepler Trail from car park to the summit of Mount Luxmore, to the Luxmore Caves and back to the car park. 37 hard Kilometers with 1400 vertical Meters. Luckily we could find all caches on the way.
This was the only cache i found on the fifth of december, over a week ago now as i write this.. backdating and logging it to when i did discover it.
It was my birthday, and i was lucky enough to spend it up on the mountain, at luxmore hut.
Randomly coming across a cancellation for the day, at the last moment decided to do the kepler track and so, late in the day saw myself and two auckland muggles heading over to explore the cave/s nearby.
I would've gone a lot further in had the company not decided upon pulling the pin after several hundred metres and a good few turns and small cavities we squeezed through inside
Spelunking is soo much fun!!
Checked out the one near gz, but not having ropes handy made the descent awkward, so again pulled the pin and instead went and showed them exactly what i meant when i talked earlier about finding tupperware in the bush.
Although the cache is in an outside glass jar, it should be alright for a good while yet with plenty of logspace and an internal container also helping against any condensation.
Thanks so much kev n chris for hiding a cache up here so long ago and keeping it alive for us all to find !
This is the tenth time i've found this combination, so it now turns a darker shade of green on my grid.
Have a green heart for taking me here with a geocache. Great spot.
It's been an easy find. Having no pen with me had to return to Luxmore Hut and to come once again. Thank you for the cache.
I didn't go far into the cave because I was alone. Luckily that wasn't relevant for the cache. Beautiful view!
4th find of the hike - had to avoid the numerous muggles who also decided to see the caves the same time as us. Tftc
A team of us decided attempt the Kepler track a few months ago. Bags all packed and we were on our way. Might as well get a few caches along the way Unfortunately the group were muggles so this trip ended up being a solo hike for most of the trip. I learnt that I don't enjoy solitude as much as I thought!
Read the previous log about a broken glass jar but glad to see a new jar has been put in its place. Ironically, being worried about cutting my hand on broken glass, I slashed my hand on some very sharp rocks! Please becareful!. Cool cave, but sun beaming down the stairs and causing the water to evorate was amazing. It created beams of line that was just magical.
Thanks for the cache and for making the 10 minute walk worth it.

A nice easy find after visiting the caves but unfortunately couldn't open the glass jar without breaking it. Have taken a photo of the cache. Tftc

After dropping our bags and taking a small break at the hut we headed to explore the caves. As we throughly enjoyed that experience we went back to the hut totally forgetting about the cache. Albijos remembered about this late evening, so we headed out again to find this one. Cache was easily found and now the pill bottle is in a jam jar. TFTC.

Found this one today. I also managed to put the plastic container into an old jam jar, which hopefully will keep it nice and dry for lots more people to find!
Lovely day for a walk up to luxmore today! A great place to go to see the new year in!!cache in good condition- didn’t have a replacement container on me ! TFTC
Unfortunately I hadn't realised that the "small" container has gone and this cache container is now a micro - a pill bottle. Maybe the next visitor could bring a larger container up the hill with them, so there will be room to leave travelbugs?
Luckily the pill bottle is easily found as per the hint, it's in a dry spot and the paper inside is fine.
A beautiful spot for a cache. Happy to be here again after all thee years - the previous time was in 1988 when the old hut had just been pulled down and the Kepler track was being planned. We looked at the main cave, then followed the trodden track a bit further along and found another cave which was the one we went into 33 years ago. Apparently there's about 30 caves in ths area altogether.
Went for a wee stroll well we stayed at the Luxmore hut nearby. Quick find for this one well we explored the caves nearby
Day two on the Kepler and this morning’s weather had lifted enough to make this little side track a pleasant way to start the day.
I made a little detour whilst a couple of other early morning explorers made their way to the main feature.
Thanks kev n chris

I only read the description last night and didn't have any logs with me. The paper in there is up to the job so no need for replacement. Found after checking out the cave. I would have liked to go in further than I did but it wasn't slippery and was on my own. Cool cave though. Thanks for giving me a reason to check it out kev n chris

Day 1 of our walk around the circuit. The walk started off rainy; it rained for the middle section, and then it finished off raining. It continued raining into the evening too. And there was no view either (visibility did increase from about 100m to 300-400m though). But no matter; it doesn't matter if it's raining when you're spelunking. In the end we didn't go too far into the cave - it was quite slippery underfoot and my buddy was more interested in the cache than the cave. (He may also have been concerned with the cave flooding.) Anyway the cache was a nice quick find. Great to keep my holiday streak (10 days!) going. TFTC.
Am 28.11.2009 war ich mit Freunden in Neuseeland im Urlaub. Damals loggte ich mich in diesem Cache ein, hatte damals leider noch keinen Account.
Ich erinnere mich sehr gern an diesen einmaligen Urlaub .

Came from Blenheim to tramp this lovely track with a friend. Today is day 1 - grabbed the handful of caches near the start of the track and then began the trudge up the hill to the hut. Was a bit of a slog but so worth it... views are amazing. We rested at the hut for a while and set up our beds then put the jackets back on for a wander to the caves to explore. While a small group were inside the cave it gave me time to grab the cache without being noticed. Then we lay on the bank and admired the views waiting for our turn. Only explored a little - as my friend got a bit nervous the further in we went...but was cool anyway.

Great cache. Thanks for placing this one. Found while doing the Kepler with the family. Awesome scenery.
Stopped for lunch at Luxmore Hut and decided to join a fellow hiker for a walk to the caves. On the way there I remembered this cache existed. I'd told my companion about geocaching the evening before and she was keen to help search. After a bit of poking around we found it! I forgot to bring a pen so I took a pic of me holding the cache. Tried contacting the CO to bring up a new logbook but neither number seemed to work. In any case there's paper with plenty of space - not sure if it's waterproof or not, but it's dry for now! The Kepler Track is gorgeous and I appreciate those who maintain caches along it
Found but left the pen at home. Hopefully a photo of the log to the owner will suffice.
Safe and dry in its hiding place. Spending the night at Luxmore as a volunteer for the Kepler Challenge. A rare year where the course has been changed due to adverse conditions on the tops. Stunning place!!
Found with mumandme and madcow2. We had the most amazing kea experience while replacing this cache. TFTC
Replaced cache with small pill bottle (hopefully secured enough so the keas don't get it this time). Amazing place up here.
Day one of the Kepler track with friends. We replaced cache. Collected debris from a systema and swaps that keas had wrecked. Met two keas up close and personal while setting it.
Spent a cold night in Luxmore Hut and saw a magnificent sun rise. Made the find before heading down as the snow started to fall.
Sadly this is just a soggy book in a wet plastic bag. If I had known, I would have bought a water proof container for it. Maybe the next person who intends to find this one could bring a replacement as it would be a shame to see this one archived again. I've included a photo as proof of the find, as I couldn't sign the wet log

With the patience of a stone I shamelessly logged this cache as I muggled Vistra at the roadside heading to Rainbow Reach and got to talking about this cause célèbre near the top of the mountain at 1100mt on our way to the venerable Trutta multi. Having been aware of the archiving of the Luxmore caves cache that had fallen into dire straits by too many curious hands, and teeth? (it looked to be a wery shattered cache) six months after the last find log. The CO implored anyone passing by to throwdown a cache for them, thereby saving them a two day hike. Yep, I was kinda passing by, at sea-level in the comfort of my office plotting my next forays, and set upon Vistra taking the only cache I had spare in the pony with a hastily prepared logbook and strong white baggy with the new logbook credit signed and initialed. With the advent of leaky sistemas, I'm always on the lookout for these larger lock'n'locks considering the majority of older caches have weathered so well; it would have to with the wet and cold conditions up there and while it may only average 18 finds per year over it's eleven years existence, the tabs may just last the distance compared to so many lakeside boxes that literally fall apart. I've replaced several umpteen fav'd caches found in worser conditions. I'm that 'sort' of cacheri who fixes what I find, endeavouring to leave caches in better condition than when found to keep the game running smoothly.
As a last hurrah our stalwart reviewer Zero Gravitas De-zombiefied the cache prior to hanging up his cache sweeping rake *(recently active and prem button flicked on)* before the reviewer staff was picked up by TheCur8or proxy-enabling the cache; another chance encounter beforehand with another cacher struggling with the Trutta multi when one of the WP's needed replacing, that steps had been taken to alleviate the cave cache's woes - I passed the cache code and details onto him before his departure to the Kepler track and the Ecache up there. With him having found the box still hidden well with what rocks could hide such a big box, confirming the cache was still in place several days after the replacement and gleefully logging his find for another smilie. Thanks for the Luxmore cache smilie kev n chris, **Vistra** for finding the room in his pack and dragging the big cache up the hill and **Geo-Nic** for confirming the box was still in place. Even if I couldn't possibly also manage the climb up there myself, a little bit of cache luv was left by the Quietest Lion on top of the mountain. *Day 24 of January galloping through my 1300th cache*

I took a visit to the caves here while hiking the Kepler Track. A chance meeting with another geocacher a couple of days earlier, I was informed that this cache was missing and they gave me a new container to take with me to replace the cache on behalf of the CO. At GZ I found the remains of the old cache, so I put the new container in place and covered it with a few rocks. Enjoyed my walk here and my explore of the caves - TFTC, favourite point added! (Apologies for my log being over 4 months late!)
I regret that after 11 years the cache has been wrecked. As it a two day hike up and down for me I will not be replacing it in the near future. If you are walking the Kepler and would likè to drop off a replacement contact me via geocaching.com and I will give you a new cache.
Cheers Kevin

At GZ behind the rock I only found a pencil and some plastic parts as you can see at the picture.

The morning of day 2 on the track the rain and wind was coming in sideways when I arrived yesterday so put off heading to the caves until this morning.... Weather wasn't much better but at least I wasn't carrying my pack . cache was a nice quick find with clear hint as my phone was playing up tftc
I ventured deep into the caves with a somewhat less daring companion I meet on the bus ride to the beginning of the Kepler Track. It was cold and raining outside but a welcome relief to climb down into the caves.
We explored as far as we could get without dropping into a crawl into the mud and water and saw some cool cave formations.
We stopped at the cache on the way back. Sarah had cached as a teen and was tempted to get back into the game. I was glad to have a way to mark my visit to this spot. Thanks for placing a cache here.

After an exhilarating day crossing from Iris Burn to Luxmore hut in high winds, I decided to head out to the caves before I get too comfortable inside the hut. I got close to gz when I noticed a group following me, so I started fishing for my gloves giving them a chance to pass. It was getting a bit more chilly now anyway. Then I quickly ducked in for the cache, and out, hoping there were no more muggles to follow. Great spot, TFTC!!
We (katkat82 and me) are on vacation in New Zealand. Today we made a day trip on the keppler (Te Anau to summit of Mt Luxor and back, about 40km). This litle was on our way!

Found on Day 1 of our Kepler adventure, after settling into the hut first and then exploring the main cave. A beautiful day today. TFTC
Thank you for this beautiful place near the cave. I had a fantastic cloudy and wet day 1 at the Kepler track. Since it is the 38 anivercery of the track, I don’t complain. Greetings from Netherlands.
Found on Day 1 of the Kepler Track. Start a substantial climb up but certainly worth the view, exploring and logging this cache. Enjoying getting out in the NZ Great Walks and good to explore. Plus an added bonus of logging a find. A fairly good geotrail to the spot. Thanks for the hide
What an awesome place for a cache on the first day on the Kepler Track beautiful weather to do it today. Thanks for the great cache!
We had a Fantastic day and view from luxmore summit before we enjoyed the chill of luxmore Cave. Tftc...glen
On the way back down the hill, I had to stop at these caves! Being a Speleo enthusiast, I crawled/walked a fair way into the main cave, probably spending a good 45min in there. Sme very nice cave decoration about 15-20mins in, it got a little plain after that, but who knows, it might get more interesting after that? Would love to know how far these caves actually go! Returning from the underworld, I made short work of breakfast and then the cache before heading down. TFTC!!!!
We visited this place on the walk of the Kepler Track.

This is the 6th time that I've been up here in the last thirty plus years, the first since I started geocaching. A nice quick find.
I didn't find a dead bird, but I found a geocache !
What an amazing walk to go up there. We did it in "sport mode" and it took us 2h40 to reach the hut. The legs hurt a bit, especially on the way down !

Staying at Luxmore for the night and spent some time checking out the caves. Had so much fun forgot to get the cache so had to go back to do it. Found quickly enough. TFTC. Took geo coin.
I didn't find it either. It seems to be the right spot following the trails. I think it is not a dead rabbit but some kind oft dead bird decaying slowly but steady.
Nice days walk with Valleysend interesting area shame Weather packed in to do summit well get that another day tftc
Was a hard walk today as we went up and back in one day. Had no trouble in finding it though. Weather wasn't great but had a lovely day. TFTC
Walked up today had a good look but couldn't find. Caves were worth the visit. Had a good run down.
Took a trackable from outside the cave near the Luxmore Hut. Also saw a dead rabbit nearby. It was cloudy and the winds were strong. Overall quite an eerie atmosphere that afternoon but the views were awesome. TFTC.
What an amazing hike! Out on a day hike to the hut and back to Te Anau. I was last up here in 2009 where I got to explore the caves. Tftc
We planned to do the whole hike along the Kepler Track. Surprisingly for us (and the rangers) we had 3 days of good weather, what was absolutely perfect. The views were stunning and we really enjoyed the hike.
Went deep into the cave and saw some interesting formations. Afterwards, we just did this one.
So far seen on this trip: Thailand and New Zealand.
