Due to some reasons I had to stay for 6 days in Christchurch. In the end I was happy for this opportunity, started to like the city and had a lot of time for searching some caches.

Thank you to all the owner for hiding. Had a lot of fun! Sorry for the standard log, but I can't remember them in Detail.

Wish you all the best.

Regards from switzerland
Marco

PS: this one i couldn't find. I saw some possible hiding places, but I think it is gone - or I was blind Smile

16-Dec-17
A bit disappointed as I bashed my way down only to find nothing. I looked in all the likely places. I did find a actual track back up though which was good.

Enjoying a long and sunny weekend in Christchurch with the CeeZeeWees Smile. Great day out today on the island to find some geocaches, get muddy, do some swimming and enjoying a picnic. Arrived at GZ one hour before low tide, hence the little CZWs and new little friends got very muddy playing at the ships. TFTC

A quick find with TregearP, Wubu12, AvonAdventurer, NoNameYet and LottieTree during a family picnic on the island. A warm nor-west Canterbury day with stunning views.

Felt a bit as if we were in a setting from Myst with the remains of the ships in various stages of breakdown. Interesting to see that there are several smaller remains with only the shape of the perimeter left visible - we think we got to a total of six vessels.

All in good order at the GZ, TNLNSL, TFTC.

27-Dec-16
Really interesting to see the ships, cache all in good order.

26-Dec-16
Great day on Quail Island. Out exploring with Bigo9. Tftc.

25-Dec-16
Our favourite part of our walk around the island, this ship graveyard was very cool! After finding our way down to the beach we made our way along to the cache! Stopped for a few photos while a couple of us set about finding the cache! Was a short search before coming up with the log, a couple of signatures and back up the hill! Thanks for this cache gets a fav point for location from us!!

Had a great day exploring quail island today with injeanious. We met some fellow cachers and had fun in the sun. Loved this spot and we had fun exploring around the boats as it was low tide, even had our picnic lunch nearby. Pic is of injeanious surveying the boats from the top.Tftc!

Jess.daphne and I decided to spend the day exploring Quail Island and picking up caches. We had lots of fun adventuring around in the sun. This was a highlight for me. I'd heard about the old ship wrecks here but it was great to see them in person. A FP from me for such a cool site. Tftc.

We were in Christchurch for Wee Womble's first birthday, and a trip to Quail Island was planned some time ago - with 2Wombles, Wee Womble, & Nanna (Mrs Popmac). An easy find and then a good climb back up to the track for lunch. Thanks for the cache.

Today I had the day off so I decided to do some caching on Quail island. There was a bad weather forecast but I thought I'd chance it. No-one else turned up for the boat so I had the island to myself. Geocaching heaven! Turned out the weather was very warm and calm until almost time to catch the boat again.

This was my second find for the day. On the way down the track I spotted some Variable Oystercatchers (the pure black ones with long orange beaks). They weren't too happy to see me though and proceeded to dive bomb me as I tried to quickly get past their nesting area in order to retrieve the cache. I got dive bombed several times by 2 birds but made it safely to the cache at the far end. All was well with the cache, then I had to run the gauntlet again to get back to the track, one more attack then I was free, no baby birds were harmed in this exercise! ! TFTC

Reperio at 1215.

During my visit to New Zealand, I had planned on visiting Quail Island...and having enjoyed a couple of big days of caching...today was about relaxing and enjoying the walk around the island taking in the views, history and geology of the area. The name of this one said it all, and I was looking forward to seeing the ship wrecks. I wandered down off the main track, and soon happened upon a nest of eggs. Continued on down to GZ, and after looking around a couple of likely spots...and one very small dark cave, the cache was discovered. This is a great spot, and the views from here were fantastic.

Needed this one for my D/T grid. Left Grandad at the top whilst the Free Family descended to the beach. Almost ignored this as rubbish at first but closer inspection revealed it to be the cache. Shipwrecks and whole history of the island very interesting.

Mum was up for the weekend along with one of my brothers, and so we went out with them, my brother that's up here for the summer, and my fiancee all on a caching trip over to quail Island! Fun times! We did go after eating an all you can eat breakfast... so although we didn't feel the need to stop for food all day... at least I felt sick the first half of the trip! Too full to move!! Haha.

Found the cache pretty easily - while my brother found a wee baby bird!

We then took some dips here in the water - cold, but nice. Brothers even climbed into the old steam boiler thing... silly boys... haha.

Consec caching day # 770

After a long walk down we made it to the cache, there was a baby bird who's parents ran off while we were there. Climbed into the boiler nearby after dropping my clothes there (by accident). TFTC

A great day for visiting Quail Island with the whanau!! Having all you can eat breakfast before heading for a boat may not have been such a great idea, but the sailing was very smooth [^] Had an amazing walk all around the island, enjoying the great company, amazing weather and fun caches. We have signed the logbooks as Team Polak instead of listing the five user names to save space and caching time Wink Admittedly, we ended up spending about an hour here, enjoying the spot - my favourite on the whole island!! Was exploring Quail island with L4TB today, and this was another cache on our list. I remember the primary school that I went to had a running race, with the prize, a memento from the Dara. Cache was quick to find once on the beach, then made the steep treck back up to the track. Thanks for the cache.

01-Mar-14
Visiting Quail island with the 2wombles and collecting caches. Great place for a cache. I had no idea the boats were here and so was amazed to find them. The long one looked like a whale carcass on the beach. We carefully plunged down from the track and after a bit of looking, the cache was in hand. As I was checking out the boats, I heard a lot of voices and looked up to see the rest of the passengers from our ferry up above watching. Odd feeling. Beautiful day to be out here. Cheers for the cache!

Fantastic spot....got heaps of prickles and soggy socks but awesome spot. We stopped and had lunch here, basking in the sun!

This is the first time we have been to Quail Island and the tide has been so low that the ships remains were clearly visible.

At late log (29 April) for a find with Kiwicampnut on 8 March.
It took a feww false starts and a couple of years to finally make it to the island and the original plan was that due to the steep climb (clamber!) kiwicampnut would stay at the top while I got this one. She changed her mind and her map showed another path going up further on from the one we were going down on ... so we took the backpacks with us (not just the caching bags). Not the best of moves! There is just the one path down and the extra weight on the way back up added extra load to lungs and legs (neither of us are as fit as we were!). The trip bak up was ... ... ... long - luckily kiwicampnut's lungs recovered enough to make it to the ferry before we were left behind!
Thank for the exercise!

08-Mar-13
First stage was to get to Quail Island which was a mission as it seems to have taken RuruNZ and I an age to get here. Now its a case of can I make it around the island in time to catch the ferry back. Managed to do both but not a total successful outcome for all the caches. Remind me not to do the over 3 terrain ones. That stuffed me totally as my lungs decided they'd had enough and my body was objecting to the climb back up as well. Should have sent RuruNZ on her own but thought I need a few difficult terrain / difficulties. She found the cache and had the log out as I was stumbling along to her. Thanks for the cache but I'm still recovering a couple of days later even as I do this log. Good views of some of the ships but not all as it was high tide when we came.

16-Feb-13
Fifth cache of the day and a nice stop by the water. Easy find again and with plenty of time left till the ferry left spent some time mucking about the beach. The walk down to the beach is quite steep as indicated but it was the climb back up that got to me. TFTC

16-Feb-13
Easy to find ^_^

03-Feb-13
A hot still day. A great view looking down at the wrecks from above. A tip if walking around the island anti clockwise, do not take the direct route down. Instead walk a bit further into some trees where there is an easier way down.

29-Jan-13
Major hike on a hot day. Interesting once down here though. TFTH

Nice day out on the island, Captain Zed with sidekicks.

29-Sep-12
In conjunction with IceFest there were cheap ferry rides out to Quail Island today! A blustery cold afternoons family adventure was definately on the cards! Haven't been out here before. Mrs G and the wee dudes had headed off to the beach on the sheltered lea side of the island for food and a play....and I headed around the island to grab a few caches. A cool wee 'goat track' heads down to the beach & bay with the awesome ribbed carcass of a ship & smaller vessel. Fantastic. A couple kayakers departing. Nice. Cache wuick to hand. A great spot. Cheers.

#760: Sunny Grave Today!

The weather was pretty changeable today, but when I scampered down to this one, it was just beautiful! I decided to take the route under the trees, instead of heading straight down the field -- good choice in the end, as the field cliff looks pretty steep. All in good shape at GZ today, and the wrecks were having a nice rest.

SL/TFTC!

2nd find of the day - quite a hike down, loved it!

Interesting history associated with this cache. Quick find.

23-Dec-11
Bit of a scramble through the grass, but good to get off the main track out of muggles' sight.

27-Nov-11
After we signed the log and were on our way back we found another couple coming down the track, with a GPS device and this 'where the hell...' view. Great to catch up with them and have a chat after the tour around Quail Island. It is hard to believe that even in 1951 they just rested an old ship here. Thank you for the exercise.

27-Nov-11
3rd find on a tour round the island, whilst on our way to this we bumped into a lovely couple of cachers just on their way from here. Lovely to meet like minded people away from the norm Smile

11-Nov-11
A great day out with Sherbetweb and a clean sweep of all the caches on Quail Island. Just as a cache should be, a little "off piste" TFTC.

08-Nov-11
The tide was low, so after finding the King Billy's View cache we carried on down to the beach through the long grass and bracke,n and walked around the coast to the Ship's Graveyard. The skeletons of the ships were an impressive sight close up, and a good photo opporunity. Found the cache, then scrambled up the steep hillside to the track above. Thanks for showing us this spot.

TFTC. I remember boating past these skeletons as I child and being intrigued by them. Fantastic to have a reason to climb down to see them up close today. Thanks for going to the effort of placing a cache here in this special location.
