Found it but there was no logbook in sight- the container was filled with water and mostly empty. TFTC all the same!
Cache was opened and in bad condition with items scattered around and the logbook missing.Put everything that I found back inside and sealed it.Traded an item and had a great time walking the paths tough!
496. What a cool place for a cache. We weren’t going to come and find this one but decided that we would when we got to the car park. It’s so cool looking back at Whangamatā. TFTC.
This really is a great place, with a fab view. Fun adventures again with kimbathelion. Cache soon in hand thanks to good hint. Tftc
Find #5100. What a great adventure to get to here. Amazing views at the end of the peninsular. Fav point for a fun adventure. Cache was quickly located thanks to a good hint. We could surfers down below. Thanks to the local lads for there info. Tftc
It’s always nice to find an older cache so we were keen to look for this one, and to check out the view,
We took a few minutes to locate the cache as we were victims of Murphy’s Law and found it in the last place we checked.
Cache is a nice size and in great condition.
After checking out the stunning view we finished the loop track back to the carpark.

After grabbing a number of caches in the damp weather today, we thought we might just quickly get this one and head back to the car. Reading the previous log as we walked along the track changed our minds - would we be lucky enough to spot a ruru too? Sadly not, but we found the cache no problem and completed the loop walk. Perhaps the rurus didn't like the sound of the surfing comp announcements happening back at the main beach? Or maybe they were holed up somewhere nice and dry? TFTC
After leaving the car in the car park we took the right path whilst noting the steps to the left. Glad we did as, whilst on the loop walk, I looked back to check on mrs c and there was a ruru perched in a fern above her head. We took a moment to admire before it silently departed as we attempted to get our phones out. Awesome to see in the daytime though. Once at the 'lookout' (no real views today) the cache was found as per hint and replaced same. All good here thanks, on a good day would be awesome no doubt.
A dreary, drizzly day today so not much planned except a couple of short excursions and chill out at the house. We did head out in the morning past Onemana to the forest lookout at the end and that was nice, though damp. Thanks to all CO for his hides.
I have got a busy few days coming up, and am heading north to the Coromandel peninsula for the weekend with a work holiday home booked for this upcoming long weekend, including stat day on Monday. Then I'm heading home with mrs c for a couple of days leave followed by a couple of days WFH before heading back to Manawatu and my new work area at the weekend. Not massive numbers of cache finds but a few to keep things ticking over and a surprising amount by Auckland based COs too! Thanks to all cache owners for their contributions.

And another short walk to catch up with this one. Left our caling card. Yep great views of Whanga. Cheers. Now to follow the track - to where?
Day 12 - Tuesday 29 December - Whangamata - Opoutere - Onemana and back to Whangamata today. Some local beaches to explore so lets go!
The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are off on another geocaching escape over Xmas, this time to the mighty Coromandel, then over to Opotiki and stop off at Rotorua to return home on 5 January. Had an fabulous time exploring many wonders of our country. Rounding up over 400 caches along the way, with a few LABS, 20 odd TMGTs, virtuals and lots of interesting earth caches to keep the mind busy. Watching the sun come up on New Years Day at Mt Maunganui was spectacular. Lots of walking and even more driving. But had an awesome time. Thanks to all COs who made this adventure so special.

Wow. Big cache here! And another track that needs mapping. I took what turned out to be the short route to the cache, but I thought it was the long way, I was expecting a quicker way back carrying on. but no, turned into an enjoyable little walk (rather than a inconsequential 5 min walk). Will correct the maps soon.
Taybeedragon and I went on a tour of the Coromandel - one of the few places of New Zealand, especially of Te ika a Maui, that I have yet to explore throughly, and from there along the coast to Opotiki to see one of my many, many sisters. From 18 December to 5 January we found over 400 caches, including 12 adventure labs (60 caches), 20 or so TMGTs and a host of virtuals and earthcaches. And I hosted an event to see the sun come up on New Year's day - surprisingly popular given that it was at 5am. We climbed a lot of hills, saw some amazing beaches that were quite popular despite (or because of) the insane access to them, walk a lot of bush, entered and explored 8 gold mines and generally had an awesome time. However I am glad to be back, but now is the hard part, and I fear it will take just as long - logging!

This cache led us to a breathtaking view of Whanga... love this place.
IuryBr did most of the work here as I was doing all the distractions I could do to hold up our muggle friends.

My second time visiting this place, but now I had one more mission, finding a cache there. Well, it's done. In the occasion I had the opportunity to introduce the Geocachin to some friends, it seems some of them liked it and will start to hunting some caches.

Found while on my Christmas holidays in Pauanui with Tramyard. Beautiful place. Thanks for the cache
Great spot and view! Whangamata looks awesome from here. We enjoyed watching surfers too. Cache in good condition. TFTC RAF SL FP!
Find number 5617. The power company was doing work near my house so the power was to be disconnected most of the day. So I decided to go caching. I have looked at this from Whanga so many times but have never ventured over. Had time today so I tackled the road. It was rough in places but able to be driven in a normal street car. Enjoyed the view before making my way down to this cache. Thankfully I found the cache quickly. All in good order. Thank you for bringing me here.
East at path intersection and a lovely loop walk. First find treasure hunting with my 87 year old mumma. Not much bush bashing required. Go on a clear sunny day, the views are to die for.
Unfortunately a large group of people here at the end of the road having a picnic. Will try again in the summer.
On a day trip caching with Richard up at Onemana. Lots of walking and seeing some beautiful beaches and bays. A few good downs and of course ups. Thanks to the COs for some great caches and for Ri hard taking me as I am not sure whether my Suzuki would have liked some of those roads Always looked up here from Whangamata and now I’m here TFTC
We enjoyed the short walk to this one, the view was awesome today. My boys made me nervous standing so close the edge at the ad hoc lookout. No issues finding the cache container thanks to the description. The boys swapped some swag, and we grabbed a TB. Gets a fav for the location. TFTC.
Not to tricky to find. Not behind flax or regular grass. Watch out for the spiderweb! TFTC
Took a while to find but one of the super spotters found it in the end exactly according to the clues. Beautiful day. Dropped a TB
Driving around the North Island for a camping and climbing holiday. Collecting caches along the way and seeing some amazing scenery. Thanks.
This was a last minute planned trip for just the morning to try and get a few numbers for the latest bl**dy souviner challange by Groundspeak. Started the morning in Pauanui and working my way south towards Whangamata
It had been a long time since I travelled this road and so collecting the remenants along here only seemed appropriate. For some reason I had always bypassed this area but as today time was on my side it was great to take the drive down to the point and pick up these caches. From here the view was calm and the harbour was as calm as a mill pond. There were a few surfers below but there wasn't even a ripple that could have been identified as a swell.
Thanks for the placement, Thanks for the cache

We did the full (short) loop to the look-out. What a view! We stood and watched so much action for quite some time. A fabulous spot, that I never imagined could be so accessible and rewarding. Thanks for placing this cache here G-2.
It was pleasant shady walk to the lookout ..the temps were in the high 20’s so the small breeze and shade was very welcome.....what an epic view and it was most enjoyable watching the surfers take the sand bar break and grab some nice long rides...they looked to be having fun...the cache was quickly found and the log signed thanks G2 for a great placement
On a trip with TNXPro to clear a little bit more of the Coromandel. We'd finished the Broken Hills yesterday and Mt Pauanui this morning so I was looking forward to some park and grabs. We had a brief false start here but soon got onto the right track. Once at GZ though the view was stunning - a great out look over Whangamata. The cache was found quickly and in good condition thanks to accurate coords and a straight forward hint. Cheers G-2, TFTC
We found the track and made our way around to the cache. We were blown away by the amazing view from here. Took a few pics and watched the surfers for a while.
Time to head home now. Thanks for all the great caches.

Today I drove from Panganui to Tauranga. A pleasant drive with some nice views and caches on the way. TFTC!
These types of caches are why I geocache! We were over for the Beach Hop and I managed to persuade my husband to come down Peninsula Rd to go for a couple of walks. Beautiful views and great photos of Clark Island as well as Whangamata from here - complete with cars in front of the Whanga Surf Club. A lovely non-strenuous walk, scores a favourite from me, TFTC
Woke up early to lovely views this morning, after overnighting on the foreshore at Whangamata. Time to head north to find caches along the way to Pauanui and Tairua.
First we took the turnoff to Onemana and then back along the peninsula's forestry road all the way to the point. We had read other logs about taking the long way in and the short way out, so once at the carpark we tried to find the quicker access. Checked a couple of steep trails that didn't seem quite right, before going with the sign posted track. Of course we quickly realised that this was going to be the longer way. Great views of Whanga from this vantage point, and interesting to see all the places we had visited yesterday laid out before us. Returned to the carpark, curious as to where the loop trail would exit. Really don't know how we all miss that on the way in! Thanks for taking us to see this spot.

Probably should have been a little more observant at the beginning and took the long route, although its a pleasant walk. Thanks..
Time to see Whanga from a different angle. TF and I made the dusty journey along here and took the long way round and the short way back. Another nicely placed cache in a beautiful location. Thanks
We didn't have much time to spare so aimed for the shortest route. It wasn't the shortest route as we missed that turnoff, but that was good cos it was a great little loop walk. Whanga looks massive from here!
I was looking for the usual little container so was surprised to see the suitcase with a teddy in it! It's well hidden from view of the track too. Another awesome hide, thanks.

Tftc! Yodabeach grabbed this one, while I was admiring the view. We followed the path, the long way round, because we missed the short track start point. Was a nice little track though...and that view!!
Nice to have a big container to drop off a TB. Nice place to visit, mmmm probably not the best day to come as we got stuck in beach hop traffic. Great cache for my 700. TFTC
On the road again with Gap (of Fap and Gap)... It's Valentine's Day and we are chasing down caches around the Whangamata area. Someone has been busily planting new hides here...
After a short walk down through the bush, we emerged out onto the lookout. What a stunning view right down along the coastline! We chose a very good day to visit... The cache was a quick find. I took the TB. TFTC.

3.40pm - What a great view across the water. Amazing how voices travel, we could hear the guy at the surf club telling every one the beach was about to close of their duties. SLTFTCl
Have to admit that Karen found it. Had two guys come while I was signing the log and don't think they noticed karen hiding behind the bushes.

A quick find while out walking this track. Came across another geocacher as I emerged out of the shrubbery, who quickly signed the log as well.
Nearly the end of our great little holiday in whangamata and we've been having a lot of fun exploring the surrounding area, using caches as our tour guide to help us discover unknown-to-us places. The main beach has limited swimming today with lots of rips, but forecast to improve, so we decided to do a bit of touring this morning and included a detour drive over here on our way back from Opoutere. We've been out this way ages ago but time limits meant we didn't looked for this cache back then. I definitely don't remember the peninsula road being so rough but maybe that's coz we were bombing along in mr k69's ute last time .. my little city runaround wasn't loving the drive today! Took the long way around the loop walk to reach GZ and, with a good hint, it didn't take long to find the well-stocked cache. Cache all good, grabbed the TB to move along, TFTC
Took a while to get the angle on it. Great excuse for a little amble. Enjoyed looking for this, thanks. Now to go heal the cut.
What a view! Nice little walk, although very wet and slippery underfoot.
A well hidden big cache. We wiped it out, clearing out the dross and resident spider. Added a few large swag items that I have carried around for too long, so it is all ready for its summer visitors.
Another fav for bringing us here and a long lasting, large cache.

At an event I mentioned that I would like to find around ~150 geocaches during the weekend to be able to award my 5000 find to a special geocache in the states. YuGeo4 & yorkshirekiwi83 were more than happy to help me out overachieving this goal on Saturday. We met up early morning at 5:30am and started driving in the direction of Thames to tackle the Pony Express Power trail. We continued our drive to Waihi via Whangamata back to Auckland collecting drive by geocaches. Thanks YuGeo4 & yorkshirekiwi83 for an awesome day out geocaching!!
yorkshirekiwi83 and I went down the trail to collect the smiley. TFTC

YeoGeo4, Alpenmilch80 and I met to head to the Coromandel and then Whangamata to hit as many caches as possible, in a fun filled day with great company we far exceeded our expectations of how many we would find.
A80 and I went for a brief walk to GZ to grab this cache whilst we were in the area. Well hidden cache and lovely spot. Thanks for the cache

An awesome walk to an amazing view!! thanks so much for bringing us here or we would never have come otherwise.
Checked out the view before finding cache. Was reading information on the Tairua Forest area later and it said that you can see Mt Maunganui from the lookout. Wished we’d known before so could look for it. TFTC
Great viewing good camouflage fine meet nice locals had to wait till they left to find it TFTC
