Day three - Geo Toroa DunedinFinally the sun has decided to show its faceWith Queensland buddies, Snickersallan, chamad and Wollaston, BenM70, gcovernSigned log as QLD+1Thanks for creating and placing for our enjoyment
Here in the land of the king white cloud to attend the mega in Dunedin. Many thanks to all those involved in the organisation! Today we targeted some oldies and virtuals . Much better weather and lots of fun. Travelling and caching as a group Qld+1. A big hike included! Cheers
Outnabout with Chamad, Snickersallan, Ardom, Bluewattle, Gcoven & BenM70 on my first ever trip across the ditch. Log signed as QLD+1 to save some space. After a week of caching around Brisbane and at events last month with other Geo friends, I couldnt pass up the opportunity to hop on board for a NZ Mega adventure. Another great day for caching. ?? TFTC macgeonz
Day 4 in New Zealand A few virtuals, favourited and some along the ways Have attended the mega site now picking up D/Ts. Made it to this one and made the find with the QLD+1 crew of Paul, Glenda, Allan, Amanda, Mick, Gloria and myself My first overseas trip ever started off eventful with my tree fishing pole joining me in Brisbane after deciding not to travel on my flight. Virgin staff made up for their boo boo, so my adventure could continue stress free but making for a long day Day 1 involved my first FTF in another country, another webcam under my belt, a few virtuals and a couple of favourites. Day 2 involved the drive down to Dunedin, some caches of interest and the nastiest CiTO Ive ever done. Day 3 was D/T series, some planes and others along the way. Thanks macgeonz for placing this Traditional for me to convert into a smilie
FLAGSTAFF TWINS (Otago)Dunedin MEGA Monday and day 3 of some great caching with QLD caching buddies! More great caches to be found while exploring the beautiful Dunedin. Signing our logs QLD + 1 to save room, we were pleased to see most of the caches had been recently maintained and enjoyed a great variety of hides and types.A massive thank you to all of the COs for the preparation, placement and maintenance of these caches. TFTC macgeonz# 10684CheersWillis007
Out and about with Willis007 and other members of the group QLD+1 finding solved puzzles and multis plus other targeted caches. We decided to walk up to the oldie at the top, picking up a few traditionals up here. Logbook signed and replaced as found. Tftc
*** draft log for stats tracking, more later ***GC180TC FLAGSTAFF TWINS (Otago)Traditional Small28 Oct 2024T14:25:50 NZDTTFTC macgeonzHeading south with Heihei, along with most of New Zealands cachers, for the Dunedin Mega. After the penguins and a rushed lunch I went for the Flagstaff Hill oldie, though didnt have time for the other 2 there I had on the list.Another cross country trek Quick find. Signed on random spot in the replete logbook. Went out via the other boulders and track weird unmarked spot for a seat.
Found with Gazania Rigens. You have to set aside a few extra minutes for this one!We could find neither a track towards the rocks nor, having reached them and found the cache (fairly quickly located), any track back to the path either. Just a tedious struggle through the flax-laden shrubbery. Luckily not tooooo much of the cursed gorse or grabby bramble, so it was just a question of forcing and wading through it without getting tripped up or tangled in vegetable tentacles.TFTC
This didn't look too bad on the map, but it was tough to get to. Took a while to find among the rocks too. Nice view from the rocks. TFTC!
We were walking around here and decided this one wasn't far off track so we might as well get it. Was a bit more challenging than we expected! But we made our way through the undergrowth and found the cache. It was a fun little deviation from the track. Thanks!
It was a bit of a bush bash to get here but angelic_kiwi soon spotted the cache. tftc
Cache 1705 In Dunedin working on the Further Faster Otago Mountain Dog Challenge I have 3 peaks to attack while Im here, Flagstaff, Swampy and Mt Cargill. So of course Im going to Geocache while Im at it hehehe who would skip that opportunity So Chase ( My Geo pup ) and I arrived early in Dunedin this morning and Flagstaff was our first peak. We started the climb in the dark and was greeted with the most amazing sunrise the colours were incredible. This was a nice quick find in good condition, these rocks are great T4TC
Flagstaff boulders spotted across hills from our residence were walked down after visiting the seat nearby. Missed finding the WP trail off the main walk and bush bashed through the dry broom that is slowly getting slashed back. Some impressive boulders here and whilst the tallest ones looked too ominous to climb, we found the 400ml tucked away in dry spot in a much easier place. Noice one. Someones RITR logslip in mini was in cache with full dry logbook but there was plenty of room to stamp the logbook in the middle as peeps had skipped a few pages. Dropped in some swag grabbed in an old glad baggy we had on hand for the black cache. Goods returned to hide under the flat thingy that hasn't developed any moss. Looking down a deeper place we spotted a plastic water bottle but it was too deep to retrieve. Threaded our way out following a truer path through flax back to grassy area and the main walkway leaving the hill again. After 16 years, this cache has ticked over quite well. *High fav **11favs** Favorite Fan! Heart challenge **20pt 20th** trad **270pt***. TFTC
Getting to the cache was a really prickly experience. Even on the track. A quick find and as always I took an easier way back. Thanks
A bit of a clamber up to a pair of rocks I’ve walked past many times. A nice quick find after scouting a couple of conspicuous possible hiding spots. TFTC

Oh wow, a bit of a bush bash, but what magnificent boulders! Climber all over them and found the cache surprisingly easy.

Decided to do a hike today. Started off in Leith valley, headed up to Flagstaff then Swampi Transmitter and finally Jubilee hut in the Silver peaks. All up took us 8 hours. Had time to collect 7 caches but sadly had to walk pass many because of time. Also 1 DNF. Spectacular views once you get height up. This was the first of the day and thankfully quick stop and find here. Cache and log all fine. Amazed to see the 2097 log still in place. Thanks for the smiley.
A quick detour off the trail. My fellow walkers had previously found the cache so I made a solo trip from the given waypoint not knowing there was a bit of a track further along. Didn’t take too long to locate once I had orientated myself to the hint description. Tftc
Huge bush bash to get to this one - legs shredded by gorse. Great fun though TFTC!
Thought I was here when I found a seat with a view and all the gorse cut down. GPS said 40m to go in the gorse. Had lunch then bushwhacked and found the twins. Easy find coming from that way. Sat on the top to admire the view and find an easier way back to the trail.
A lovely day which would should not be wasted. Messaged Eve07 to see if she was feeling up for a walk and after a debate in the car we decided to avenge my attempt of the bull ring flagstaff and swampy road round walk. 5 years ago I attempted it and at T for 2 area I fell down a hole and well doctors said that I would have been better off breaking it, 2 years it took to recover from that. I swore I wouldn't come back on own and Eve07 agreed.
We had a bit of a laugh but the lack of shade up here and lack of wind made it very hot hiking up these hills. Luckily we found along the bullock track some flax bushes tall enough to rest under out of the sun. By late afternoon near the pineapple track we could hear some noise, like a boombox .... but wait its the Six60 concert at the Stadium.
'Track' to this cache site was hidden/lost as alot of scrub plants removed from elsewhere seem to have been piled up here.

[NZ Mega 2020](http://nzmega.com) is definitely happening, but has been postponed until 2021. It will be held in Auckland over Labour Weekend, 22 to 25 October 2021. It's going to be a massive celebration of geocaching:
* 20+ years of geocaching worldwide.
* 20+ years since New Zealand had the very first geocache hidden outside of USA.
* All the 20s and now 21 as well!
Talk to your geo-friends and start planning to be part of [this event](http://nzmega.com) - you won't want to miss it!

Whilst I was out here to pick up my reward for having rambled so much, I could not but make a little detour to visit these twins. They didn't seem to mind either.
I really like the comment on the cache-description: "These rocks have stood in silent witness (...) from the arrival of the first settlers to the never-ending expansion of the suburbs." Indeed they have, indeed they have. Sitting on top of one of these twins, looking over modern-day Dunedin way down below, contemplating this sentence... It was an enlightening experience; thank you for hiding this cache here.

TFTC - really enjoyed my walk around here today - my first visit. Up here to look after the grandchildren but they are still on holiday so yah at last I have some spare time while in Dunedin to grab some caches up here.
Its early on Saturday morning and we are walking the Pineapple Track for the Rambler Series. We diverted of the main track through the wilderness for a few meters to check out these amazing rocks. Located this one after a short scramble. Cheers.
Its Saturday 27 April and our last morning in Dunedin. Its the Rambler Series and the Virtual in the harbour, in our sights today. Then its homeward bound with the team stopping near Christchurch for the night to snag some Lab Caches.
Its another awesome geoventure to Dunedin, with The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby, Jack, Jill and William all along for the trip. Had a wonderful 10 days exploring Dunedin. It was great catching up with local cachers at several events we attended. Lots of walking and driving, with the odd cycle and wave ride to jazz things up. Thanks to all the COs that made this trip a wonderful success. Even managed to bag some lab caches along with wherigos, earth caches and events, with the usual mix taking us to some amazing places..

Taybeedragon and I discussed heading off to the Flagstaff point on the way here, and then again on the way back, but decided we didn't have time for it. Glad we had time for this one though, a pretty neat place. Gets a favourite from me.
Taybeedragon and I have an eleven day Easter weekend in Dunedin. Although, let's face it, given that we are from Blenheim and Picton that means two of those days was spent in travelling. In that time we grabbed a smidge over three hundred caches. Not bad, considering the amount of time spent way out on the back roads, on bicycles or canoeing on the water. A few virtuals, larges, letterboxes, earths, wherigos, and even ten lab caches in the haul. An awesome weekend!

Well, that was an expedition! I had a TB that wanted views so I wanted to go high to drop it. Our first effort up the top Flagstaff was thwarted by heat and gorse and ineptitude over rough terrain. So we went to the Twins instead. This still required an adventurist heart, to head 'off-piste', so Phoebe and I pulled up our big girl pants and set off into the unknown. We had great fun scrambling all over the rocks - she's a parkour enthusiast so was in seventh heaven. And good to have played on this landmark that I can see from my kitchen window. It was a beautiful day, and we were very glad we chose to have an ice-block on the way up instead of waiting. The log book is pretty full, and there is no pen or pencil - so take your own! TB deposited
We are on our summer holiday driving around the South Island with no real idea of where we will end up each day. We are often drawn to an area that has the potential to give us a few geocaching smilies and somewhere we have not spent time exploring before. In some cases we are revisiting placed that we have been before but liked so much we are going there again.
While in Dunedin we were mostly searching for the old caches that fill a gap on our date placed grid and some Challenge caches that fill a gap on our D/T grid.
This was on the way to one of our targeted caches. Getting to gz was a bit of a mission, but we did get there. GK split open a cut he had on his finger (sharp knife and cheese versus finger = sharp knife won) and left plenty of DNA around the area. So while he was mopping himself up I found and signed the cache, I signed the log and returned it as it was found.
Thanks for placing the cache and thank you for the smiley

Lovely day for a walk on the Pineapple Track with BCD. I have never been up here before. A right Dunners stunner with just a little bit of a cool breeze. Bit of a detour off the main track and once at GZ a quick find. Awesome views over the city. TFTC
D'oh must trust gps (sometimes). we spent an age looking all over then KM found the cache pretty much exactly where the pointer was pointing!. Thanks
Queens Birthday weekend. Lets celebrate with some time in Dunedin. Today we toodled around Dunedin, collecting some old caches and some fun ones..

While up on Flagstaff it would have been rude to not get these landmarks. So a short wander by KR and I to this one, then a long scramble around to actually find the things. Hey, there it is, follow the hint and it will work. So will the GPS, it was bang on - we just didn't trust it... Cheers
The hike over from the main path was not too fun in shorts and the cache took quite some time to locate, but definitely worth it
Me, CJCurry and Hevic climbed up Flagstaff today and it was rough. And was also Ramble #2 for the Rambler's Reward!
Me and Cj waltzed down here on the obvious track but the cache proved tricky to reach. A team effort soon got it out. Tftc!

A trip up the Pineapple track over Flagstaff has been on the cards for a while now, so Hevic, safetykat, and I made our way up and over today. safetykat pointed this one out on approach and suggested "are those the Flagstaff Twins?" A great little find, though it took some ingenuity to actually get at it. But get at it we did, and I marvelled at my ability to go rock hopping while carrying a GPSr in one hand and a walkie-talkie in the other. Cheers!

logbook je plný... no je celkem dost místa na některých stránkách, protože někteří lidi asi nepoznají, že stránka ještě není plná, ale zapsal jsem se na poslední řádek v logbooku

On a bit of a mission with Ruby on this fine day. Fair bit of traffic on the track today. Maybe it's always like that. Nice spot you found here - used the hint to find the cache.
Dropped in a path tag. Thanks for the hide macgeonz

Had a couple of false starts finding the right path to this. A bit of a rummage around in the rocks soon came up trumps. TFTC
During our holiday in New Zealand we also visited Dunedin. Dunedin is the Mekka for Geocachers. What a lot of caches are here. Our main goal are some caches from 2000, and that we have achieved.
We also found this one during our hike to the one off the oldest geocaches in the world.
macgeonz hartelijk dank voor het leggen en onderhouden van deze cache.

We had to head South from Nelson on short notice. There were a number of caches earmarked for a variety of reasons. High favorite count, date of placement, earth caches, d/t rating, challenges and unfinished business from a previous Canterbury raid all featured prominently. We did some too just because they were there. After navigating the detour traffic before, over and after the Lewis Pass we started caching. This was one of our finds around Dunedin. Our focus was the "Ramblers Award" cache but how can you ignore anything on the way? The cache is well hidden and was found by Holymu while I checked another potential hiding place. After signing the log we took in the views before completing the loop walk and finding some more caches on the way. Thank you macgeonz
We had an unexpected trip to Otago, naturally there was going to be some geocaching involved but with limited time we had to be selective about which caches we would target. Flagstaff Hill was our main focus.
We had parked at the Bullring carpark and walked the loop track, this was one of several caches we found.
It took several minutes searching before we found it though, there being a few decoy spots as well.
Thank you macgeonz.

With the holidays almost at an end, it was time for a stroll up Flagstaff, a place not visited since early 2013...the weather was glorious and the track largely empty, which made for optimum finding conditions! After walking through swathes of grass, The Twins were spotted and the find made without incident! TFTC, and the views
Lovely evening scramble up the pineapple track to watch the fading light, and finish off with a cache. Awesome spot, nice to have an excuse to have a closer look at this formation. Soon in hand once at gz. Tftc
Quick detour through the scrub while out for a sunset stroll up flagstaff. What a cool rock formation. Soon in hand once at gz. Tftc
Ninalila and I enjoy a sunny afternoon (before the storm) to go to flagstaff in order to find the old box.
At the same time we search some other boxes around.
The veiws to the South Mountains, the West Mountains and the sea were really nice.
We could see the snow on the summits of mountains around.
I had to go down the rocks in order to find it, and climb again to enjoy the view over the city.
We signed the logbook with our team name : lekiprokos
Thank you for the cache and the discovery

Nice walk to flagstaff summit with fefe.adrien. A beautiful sunny afternoon just before the storm. Amazing to see the ocean at one side and Alps mountains with snow at the other side, so close ! We enjoyed the view 360° around.
Easy to identify the spot from the path, now time for fighting with gorses to reach it^^.
Well hidden with rocks, it took few minutes before to catch it.

#2214. I came up Flagstaff Hill to find the old cache. But while up here I decided to pick up a few other caches on or near the tracks. This one was a bit off the path. Reached the rock outcrop and had a look around but missed it initially. Had to read the hints to locate the cache. The logbook was nice and dry. Signed and returned cache as found. Thanks for hiding it here.
Haha I got a phone call while heading for this cache. I wonder if the person talking to realised I was a bit preoccupied. Talk about multitasking! Thanks
I'm currently hitchhiking my way around the world and geocaching everywhere I go. My first stop was in Ireland where I spent a couple weeks touring the country. I then flew to London and spent a couple weeks touring the United Kingdom. From there I made my way through the tunnel and up to Amsterdam and then back down to Belgium. After that I headed for France. Then from there I headed to Portugal for a mega event that was happening. After that I headed for Denmark to attend another Mega event. I then made my way North into Sweden and then even further North to Norway. After that I proceeded to work my way back down South through Finland and then ferry hopped my way through a few of the islands to arrive back in Sweden. Next I made my way to Germany for another Mega event and then back to the Netherlands for still another mega event before heading for Luxembourg. After that the next stop along my journey was Switzerland. I then made a quick detour up to Belgium to grab a July 2000 geocache I had overlooked before making my way to Croatia passing through Austria and Slovenia along the way. After that my route took me East to Serbia and then through Romania into Moldova. I then couldn't resist going North and crossing into the Ukraine. After that I began heading South passing through Romania once again. I then passed through Bulgaria as I raced for Turkey in order to catch a flight to Australia timing it so that I could attend a mega event happening there. After that I made an extensive 2 month tour through all 8 states of Australia before flying over to the North Island of New Zealand. I then gradually worked my way south to Wellington and took the ferry over to the South Island. I then continued hitchhiking my way around the South Island via Blenheim, Murchison, Spring Junction, Leithfield Beach, the bypass around Christchurch to Ashburton, Dunedin, Brighton, Bluff, Queenstown, Danseys Pass, and then Christchurch airport.
Thank you so much for placing this geocache!

An enjoyable little side trek off the main track. Absolutely no view from the nearby seat at the time I was here. TFTC #7920
A great spot to find this cache. My first towards my Rambling cache. A lovely day out today and worth getting up early for. Great company and weather was perfect. Lovely views around here. Dropped off a TB since I could see the sea from here. TFTC.

Spent a while snuffing this out, trying lots of angles. Got there in the end! Tftc, great view
Found it with the second group of high school students on a PE excursion doing a "Geocaching" activity.
It was a great introduction to Geocaching for 24x 15 & 16 year olds. TFTC

It took me a couple minutes of searching but the hint put me on target pretty quick. I grabbed a couple photos of the town from the top of the rocks. We stopped by here to grab the old Flagstaff Hill cache. The weather was beautiful, though maybe a bit chilly, when I headed out. I grabbed four other caches was in the area and was watching some pretty good storm clouds build up to the south. Since the wind was out of the west I though I would be okay but all of a sudden the storm was heading right for me. I ended up jogging the entire way back down in terrible gusts and some light hail. Gotta make the caching exciting somehow!
Some scrambling around the rocks feeling rather confused eventually led to success.
Definitely chilly up there today, with ice still on the puddles at 3pm. Good to learn that those rocks have a name!
This was quite a quick find using the hints supplied. No need for any GPS but I did use google maps before leaving home to see the lie of the land. picked up a path tag.
This is my first cache to count towards "Ramblers Reward Challenge" GC2XBAT. I went up from the Bullring via Flafstaff and returned via the firebreak.
Good to stretch my legs on walk.
Hoped over to this one and with a little more Rock hopping found the cage.
Dropped a PATHTAG cause l like the spot
Great view.

This took me ages!!!! I did not expect it to be there and it was actually quite tricky! I think because I originally tried without GPS, then gave up, turned the thing on and taken right to the spot. Kicking myself after but a very good hide! TFTC!

took the dog for a walk and wasn't pariccualry happy going off track. So I didn't hve long to search but couldn't put my hands on it. Maybe next time.
Found this one during a day nice winter's afternoon Geocaching on and around the Pineapple Track. TFTC!
Effective camo for this cache, I looked past it twice

Found together with Mishelin during our NZ trip. Sorry for the late log and TFTC.
We beat the rain this morning and headed up for a stroll on Flagstaff. I've been running by many times, but usually don't take the time to stop for the caches! Nice little detour, and after a bit of searching and resorting to the clue, the cache was in hand. Thanks, all in good shape.
