What a lovely day for a walk, and to keep the kids motivated a few geocaches along the way are a big help. This was the second of three caches that we picked up today. TFTC
Nothing like a public holiday to do a little exploring and caching.
A revisit of a dnf from a couple of years ago and this time we found it. Yay..

Went hiking through Tree Trunk Gorge today and made your lovely cache row! Thanks for putting so much effort in this, so others can enjoy! Really appreciate that. Coords sometimes went odd, but finally could find the caches, sometimes needed hint though. All caches are dry, well protected and in good condition. Lovely litte Gorge! Thanks again from a German cacher living in NZ.
PS: Left my portable Travelbug stamp with logging code in logbooks (ONLY to discover, NOT to take!)

Replaced Log Book. Please keep it dry inside the plastic bag.
PLEASE NOTE: If you're caching in the rain please do your best to shelter the logbook when signing it, otherwise it stays wet and will not dry out.

Found it after a little hunting around. Great spot for camping and will be back in the summer for sure. Logbook was too wet to sign and it was too cold to dry it
This is certainly a divine stretch of native forest and a well maintained track carpeted with beech leaves.
We left the wheels about 50m from this cache at Urchin campsite, in the middle of the Valley of the Gods and walked out and back in both directions from there.
After getting on the P&P wavelength on the way out and back from the Tree Trunk Gorge end of the track, this was perhaps the easiest - and our 7th of 9 finds - in the series.
TFTC P&P.

Re: Needs Maintenance note. These caches are quite remote and we would appreciate if some maintenance can be done by the visiting cachers. Most experienced cachers do this without being asked, they dry out caches and replace wet logbooks with a piece of dry paper. We really appreciate their efforts to help keep these "far away" caches running smoothly. We cannot drive great distances to dry out a cache each time it gets wet. Our only alternative will be to make them all Premium member only caches or just archive the lot of them!
Day 5 of our road trip to Auckland for Christmas. A nice quick find. Thanks for the hide
Directly at the nice DOC Campground.. found quite good.
Found it on my trip to New Zealand. Thanks to all the Owners for showing me this beautiful places!

A quick easy find as we arrived for our visit to the Valley of the Gods. Despite all the containers, the log is wet but usable. TFTC
Turns out that this cache is situated just 20 metres from where we pitched our tent.

Quick cache at the end of an arvo walk. Love this area, hadn't been up there in a while.
Walked in to here this afternoon on a diversion while travelling north. Lots of snow on the track, provided a little extra variety. Cache was a quick find. Signed log, TFTC!
Cool thanks, took abit to find but we got it..logbook bit damp but still fine to write in...thanks again!
found container full of water, drained it out and used tissues to dry it out however log book saturated, dried it as much as possible
Found after an excellent 3 day tramp along the Umukarikari's, river and Urchin. The cache container was half full of water, but the log in the film canister was ok,although a bit damp. Nice area, but no time to to do all the caches around here unfortunately. There's another trip in that TFTC
Might be worth explaining to visitors if one of the tracks goes to a viewpoint. I ran up both tracks for 5 minutes and found nothing significant. I would love to know "what" are these pillars, and where do I have to go to see them - no info on DOC signs!

Didnt realise you could drive to this cache!! We started walking the track from the highway to Hercules when I checked the map and saw the road, we went back for the van and drove around to the other side.

No sign of any of Xena's supporters at GZ..... in fact they were all in the field beyond, playing cricket!
This was a nice easy one to find. Getting a little tired now - but a lovely track for running! Left a pet rock - a sheep
Found as part of my three week caching trip from Wellington to Auckland - # 453. Had planned to go halfway and then drive around to the other end. Maps hadn't accurately shown extent of "other end" and I was surprised to find myself there! Thanks.
The last one for us in this series, good to have competed them all. Thank you P & P for taking the time to lay this series out on what we think is a fantastic walking track. NINO, TFTC
Walked around for this then realized another road nearby. Went back to get to vehicle to continue the journey. TFTC
Back again today after getting rained out previously. Still raining but we'll keep drier in the car today. TFTC
Was a good little walk. Did all the caches along the track. Took the kids who had turns with the GPS and also let the dogs loose. Good time by all.
My fourth in the valley of the gods series and still a few to go. The walks through this part of the world are magnificient and well worth the effort. TFTSeries.
Found without any problems. This was to be the last one for me. Would love to have done more but I had to be back and as it turned out my timing was pretty much spot on. Many thanks to Punga and Paua for this excellent series on this lovely walking track. All caches were a good distance apart, coordinates were good, and hints very useful. Most enjoyable.
Had a good conversation with some muggles who were very interested in geocaching. Although I think the male member was more interested in cars!!! Loved the track.
Quite a surprise to find we could have driven to the spot but enjoyed the walk and previous cache. Left magnet TN
The Freezer Mice strike again!!!
About to head into the Umukarikaris today, so time for a quick couple of caches before we started walking.
Cache quickly in hand, will have to come back for all the others on another day.
Nil in or out, TFTC.

Moved campervan from Waihaha to Urchin (via Hercules) today. Egspal and 2 kids walked up from Herc, and I told them later that they had passed two caches on the track! We went back to score them later. Thanks for all the fun.
An easy second find of the 'Gods' caches, before continuing up the trail for more.
Thanks a lot.
Thanks a lot.
(168) Lots of muggles setting up camp nearby - the dangers of summer caching - and lighting a very smoky fire.
Found subtly enough and onwards to the next cache.

We need a log for 'Didn't try to find".
Too many muggles all around the GZ cutting down firewood. Hope they don't stumble over the cache.
Have to come back another day.

Dont you hate it when you walk down a path and arrive at GZ and a Road?
Luckily, Mrs Wonder had gone back to the car, and after a quick txt, she came by and picked me up!

The birdwatchers must have been quite mystified as to why seven people were fossicking around in the bush, disturbing the birds! We chose not to enlighten them...
Well it was certainly easier driving here than continuing on from the last cache on the track.

Another team find with Tramper Ted, sp8sm8 and Boogie-O. What a delightful area. Out geocoin. TFTC
That's a great camping spot, tempted to stop the night here but took the soft option of a hot shower and warm motel in Turangi

When we're told by a reviewer not to saturate an area with caches, we think its time to pull the plug. All our caches will now be removed.
Punga's turn to hunt caches. Found this one, part of the series of caches in the Valley of the Gods that Paua has been working on. This is her cache hide. This Valley is one of our special favourite places, the beech forest is just beautiful. The walking track through to Tree Trunk Gorge is one of the nicest we have seen. One of these days we'll do an overnight camp here, nice spot.
Can strongly recommend the bike ride around Tree Trunk Gorge, but didn't have time to get the nearby caches.
A great little spot. Wonder if the campers at the campground nearby are aware of this cache being so close. We could see them through the trees. So a bit of stealth was required.
A quick find, no problems with co-ords. Great area to explore and walk some of the tracks. Usually we come up here to go tramping. TFTC
Well here was another highlight of what is turning out to be the caching day of a life time. Of course we saw the sign - albeit quite a small sign, that says "Army exercise in progress, proceed with caution".
Not only did we get the strong guy's pillars but we also got a full platoon of practising Rambo's as muggle company. They were scary fellas too. Camo face paint, AK-forty, whatevers (big firearms!), and lots of shouting of commands. We weren't sure whether to stay or go. Don't be silly, we've got caching to do!
Found as expected, according to coords, directions and clues. Thank you. All in order with the cache and rehidden as found.
TNLNSL - found with team cacher Sweet P (who's now reconsidering career options and think maybe army looks good!).

Found without difficulty thanks to the helpful clue. Dropped off TB. Thanks P & P .
Pleasant drive through the beech forest on a very hot summers day. Took some time to locate the cache as I kept loosing reception. Finally....there it was. TFTC
Lovely drive through the beech forest. After following in Yugeo4's footsteps cache by cache since the Manawatu this morning I finally caught up with them in the early evening (about 7.30 pm?) just as they were leaving GZ. Nice to have a quick chat then back on the road to Hamilton.
Many thanks.
Many thanks.
