Today I was up with a school group and was going to show them the cache. However when I looked at my iPhone it showed that it was not there. I went to have a look and it was not. I was the 2nd to last person to find this cache way over a year ago now and knew where it was, and it was not there. It needs to be archived or sorted out by owner, as its a great place for a cache at the top.
GZ visited today with Old Boots and Rosie. An extensive search was made to locate the cache beyond that indicated by the clues. This site has been visited several times in the last year and everyone has reoported that the cache is nowhere to be found. It is time the owner took some urgent action.
Found the water meter boxes but nothing in there other than a pile of rocks. 3 people in 3 days - the track will be getting worn out at this rate!
2 hours and 40 minutes from the Mt Grey camp site via Grey River Nature Lesson and Bean There Grey Tops. Then 20 minutes searching. Found the likely spot fairly quickly but since there was no cache assumed it was the wrong location. After reading the logs (downloaded in December) I assumed it had been relocated and I had old co-ordinates. Looked around for likely spots but didn't find anything. Now I discover that my assumption was not correct, so I guess I'll have to come up here again once the cache has been checked/fixed.
As previous note no luck in finding the cache and searched fairly well. Found the Boxes easily but niether had cache. Most likely taken away by a water meter reader
Found the hide no worries. Definitely no cache in there. Second time nothing in there other than stones and beetles that nip Looks like its been "relocated". GPS tells me I was inside 2 metres.
There's nothing else near where it could be but dutifully searched every clump of grass and lifted every stone just in case.

Second cache on my run around mr grey. My iPhone wasn't working but I remembered the hints and come across broken water main and then found the good one. Forgot a pen and there is nothing to write with here. Toys are wet still but pad ok. Put within bags to keep dry...I hope anyway
This one took me a wee while to find as it was just about white out conditions, but got in the end, the contents are still wet but the log book is now dry and I have replaced it into another bag, The weather did start to clear a little on the way back down so I did get to see some views lol, but always great to get back up here as its such a lovely place.. TFTC. Cheers Bo
Check state of the cache as I was passing. Still wet so I left contents out to dry for an hour while ranging further North. Still damp when replaced. Cache might need to be moved as the 'hole' must fill up during rain?
Found the cache easily, but everything was completely saturated. I've dried off the contents and left the log book out of the container in the hope some nice weather might help dry it out (it's still in the meter box though). Will try and get back to check on it over the next few weeks, but it takes a bit of effort to come out from Chch to do this!!!!! Put the cache container in a plastic bag to keep it, and its contents, dry. I think a dump of snow must have caused the box to fill with water some time over winter. The cache contents need some replenishment too. If I'd looked for the cache on the way up I would have stayed and dried the log book out, but we were returning in the late afternoon.
Went to the top with the Cheviot walking group, nice day but very cold on top.cache very wet not able to wright in log, neads drying out.
After waiting for muggles to bugger off with their bicycles (here !) found the hide. Sadly it is wet.
A great afternoon up Mt Grey. Its a shame that DOC has discontinued maintainance on the track up as it is quite enjoyable. The track will get a lot harder now that the broom and gorse are closing in.
This was the second of the three caches hunted today. Fairly windy walking across the ridge today. Cache didn't take too long to find - there weren't many spots it could be! Cheers Gav [2695]
Up here with Rediguana. Glad we didn't read the cache page first - I don't appreciate giveaway clues on the cache page. TFTC.
Time for some excersise and a MTB ride up the hill. A quick find. TFTC.

That would have been really tricky if you were trying to dig smow to find it. No such problem today though.

Got to within 0m on the GPS but we didn't have a shovel to dig through the snow for this one! Will return after the snow melt.
Called in and checked on cache as I was passing by on the way to Bean There Grey Tops cache. The cache was full of water, but the logbook (in a good quality bag) was fine. Dried container, discarded the rusty bangle and dried and replaced the other contents. Should be good for a while to come. Snow still on the ground in places.
An easy find thanks for an excuse to revisit a fave' spot. No bike this time but a PB hike of 1:25 from the Grey Picnic Area. TN Left a cheap bangle. NB cache has been semi-muggled, all the silica pouches were outside the container & very wet, I removed them - so it needs some more.
Seemed like a good day for a stroll up Mt Grey, so I drove to Lake Janet, and was up at the cache site in 56 minutes. They say the track is not being maintained, but it seemed fine to me. The brisk NW breeze helped me dry out the cache container which was full of water. It definitely needs a snaplock or water-tight screwtop, as it appears that water fills the hiding-place from time to time. I managed to dry out the cachebox - at least the snaplock plastic bag had kept the logbook from being sodden. The silica gel satchets were so waterlogged I left them outside the cache container so they might have a chance of drying. No swaps, thanks and cheers from Grandalf(1117)
Ah ha, a FTF. After yesterday's non-attempt at performing a maintenance check on my nearby Ashley Views cache and last night's publication of this one I just had to make the effort today. Biked up the road from Lake Janet on the MTB and due to unfitness had to engage the #28 gear a number of times (P.S. my MTB has only 27 gears).
Lovely day up here. Plenty of radiation (solar and electronic) and just a light breeze. I didn't stay long as I feared for the efficient running of certain parts of my anatomy.
+ silica gel. T4TC. Cheers.

Phew! I am now glad that I had an attack of the lazy's this afternoon and didn't carry through with my original plan to MTB up Mt Grey this afternoon to check on my Ashley Views cache. I would have been right peeved off to get home to find that a new cache had been placed up there.
