We checked all WPs recently and found them to be just as the master designed them. At GZ, however, some works have been carried out, meaning that access to the cache was well and truly blocked, though it was still in place. Following multiple visits with tools, today we were finally able to free it and disturb the resident huntsman (pretty sure it's not the original one, but it looked equally annoyed when we shed some light on it). So, keep searching, remember Bushfire's mantra 'expect the unexpected', and ye shall find. The structure at GZ needs some thinking and some gentle manipulating to get to the goods. Please replace exactly as found! The D rating here is 4.5 for a reason. Happy hunting!

I placed this cache on the 30th JANUARY 2008, gee that is a long time ago, but not as long as some that I have hidden, but this is a great location to just sit and ponder with a glass of your favourite wine and a good friend.Where to start, the very first cacher on scene after it was published did not know what to do with what he had found so took it home to Torquay and then realised how to access the numbers so he promptly returned it and replaced it where he had found it, and then went on to be the FTF. A few years later I had a call from Barwon Water wanting to know if I was Bushfire, I thought this was strange but a new female driver had misjudged the distance and completely wiped out the area where GZ was located so of course I said that I was Bushfire so they thought it was a great idea and then told me that they would replace everything as it was before being demolished. This was eventually completed but on checking the area our they had returned a part the opposite way so made it a little harder but at least they now know about it and are happy for it to be there. The female driver did not last long very long after this incident. The large resident huntsman has been at GZ for a very long time, I wonder how long they live, I must look it up, so be careful and do not harm it please. On checking Huntsman Spiders live about two years and as they have been living at GZ for longer than that it must be offspring of the older one who takes up residence. One last comment re the copper bands that used to be on the large log got nicked for the coper value so WPT 3 is close by.This cache along with over a hundred others have been adopted out to other folk who I hope are happy to look after these guys as the ageing Bushfire has developed a health problem that is slowly getting worse so a big thanks to all these great friends. Finally, I must thank my good friend SUSS VULTURE for looking after this guy as it has got to the stage when I must pass it on and wish it good luck for the future. I know it is in good hands. And lastly, I will give it another favourite because I can now. Thanks for all the great logs that have been placed over many years.

Today I wandered along to the third WPT and replaced the container and it's protective plastic bag as the old one was a tad wet so all is good for a while I hope. After finding this container please replace all as you found it as they are getting hard to replace.

29-Dec-23
As Bushfire is not in the area for the next few days I am sure this guy is still there but I have made a new container for the second last WPT that will be replaced on my return.

Well there is a new challenge souvenir out for this month and my caching buddy Gemma Sistema hit me up to see if we could have a fun day out and find a few caches to help us hopefully reach the target required.
Today was picked and after throwing a dart at the map Geelong was soon picked out and we then picked a place to meet up and here’s to a fun day out.
Well this one took a lot of effort to get GZ and when we finally got there we spent about 30mins looking for it.
We looked high and we looked low and even after a PAF we were still a little bit confused.
We tried one more thing which we had looked at previously and bingo there it is.
I was not very happy with the 8 legged cache guardians though.
A great cache to celebrate 8000 finds as well.
This earns a well deserved fav.

Thanks Bushfire TFTC.

Wowsers. What an incredible final. Needed a PAF but just brilliant! Found on a caching day with Posums. Fav added for sure! Thanks for the fun and adventure!

This cache was targeted because i need this D/T in my multi only fizzy grid and this D/T in a multi doesn't exist in South Australia plus the amount of fav points this cache has. Got to the final location and looked and looked and then thought i tried every thing. Turns out i missed one. Even having a pervious finder with me didn't help. PAF was made that night, back the next day and then i tried what we tried before, just needed more muscle power. Nice cammo work here, have another fav point. the log sheet is dry.
Left with Mogni the day before Christmas to go down to Mount Gambier for Christmas Day. Then on the 27th left for Victoria. Plan A was to go to the Ottway Rangers, complete the Geo tour in Ballarat and then head to Geelong and take the Queenscliff ferry over to Sorrento then grabbing new LGA's on route to almost the New South Wales/Victoria border and the old 2001 cache near there. Also attending a community day event, a CITO and a couple of other events as well. Then head in to the high country and come back to SA in 11 days. Things didn't go to plan. Turns out that one of my almost new tyres was defective ( side wall blown out ) and blew in the ottway ranges on a narrow road in the rainforest, Drove to Melton to stay overnight and get a new tyre there, tyre machine broken and the other 5 tyre companies not open so off to geelong for a new tyre ( and some caches on the way and in geelong ) . The event we where going to attend in geelong didn't turn out, he was late by ALOT to his own event. Then to ballarat to same day since we had a b&b booked for the next few nights. Planned on getting the ferry at 1200 and ended up on the 400 pm ferry but we did attend a event and CITO in geelong. Then we drive into the rear end of a thunder storm with forecast 20 mm dropping for the next few days. Cancel the high country and change targets to letterbox D/T for fizzy grid only using letterboxes and same wirh the multi fizzy grid plus fizzy grid only using victorian caches plus any challenge caches we where near. Plus getting a few more victorian 2001 caches. And finally any caches that had 40 more more favourite points. Only got soaked to the bone for a couple of days but the water on the tracks was noticeable. On the return home tried to get the rest of the missing LGA's around the Melbourne CBD i missed in the last mega. Still a fun trip was had if not the planned one.

Due to all the water that is around the WPT3 may have a problem, guy may have floated away but when the water recedes low enough I will check it out. The final will still be there but may be soggy.

I had some time up my sleeve today so I decided to stretch the legs and target a few caches! Wow... what did I get myself into? This multi took time and patience but man I'm glad I did it. Very happy to get the smiley face on this one.

I made my way to GZ and was stumped for a while. Were my coordinates wrong?? Where can you hide something here?? Aaaaahhhhhhh that's where you can hide something!! In the words of the great Borat " Very Nice".

Favourite Point for sure here Smile

Thank you

On a maintenance run today I checked the log and no sign of HB312 was to be found and also part of the cache had been pinched for tthe copper that was on the Basilick so another reason that a new cacher could not find this cache so their log has been deleted.

**Found after attending Bushfire's Geelong Event**

Chasing a few caches with The Empire after attending the **DO YOU HAVE ONE OF THESE!** events Cool
A fantastic day to be out in the fresh air and sunshine. It was great to be back in the area again and able to swing past, gather the required information and make our way to GZ?
A nice straight forward find here. Left my mark on the log and replaced as found.
Thanks for the cache Bushfire. Appreciate your efforts. Big Grin

Found by The Empire with Snap Happy
After hanging out with everyone at the event, including the man himself, we thought we could finally grab the end of this one. It's another one that has been on the 'started' pile for a long time, just needed the chance to pop over and grab it. Aaaand we still needed to PAF to get the goods! Thanks for the cache Bushfire, favourite point added.

We have been putting this cache off for a little while as it is somewhat intimidating. We were out and about with Bushfire today and he asked if we had done it, and did we have some time to give it a go. The first stage wasn't too difficult, lulling us into a false sense of this wont be so hard after all. At WPT1 we started to look for the repository of the needed information. As we were looking Mr Dromaniax made a comment about how he was one day expecting to find a cache hidden a certain way. After looking for a few minutes longer Bushfire said we had made a comment that was quite interesting. So we checked out and soon had the information in hand. So off to WPT2 and that led us to WPT3. At WPT3 we took quite a long time to find the required information and it was something I hadn't seen for quite a while. Then we made our way to the cache itself. You earj every one of the 4.5 difficulty on this multi. There are three items to find and none of them are a bison on a fence style. This would have been both more difficult and easier had we been doing it by ourself. We thoroughly enjoyed this cache and that enjoyment was enhanced by having the cache owner Bushfire taking the journey with us and prodding us a little when we needed it. Thank you for the experience Bushfire. An FP for this cache as it is the toughest Multi we have done to date.

Did a maintenance past this guy today and replaced the last WPT so it should be good for a while.
WPT2 there is a white object that may make you think this WPT is missing, not so I have no idea who or what the white object's purpose was but I certinally did not place it there.

This was one we had started sometime ago but with short trips to town and sunning waypoints plus our poor luck with multi’s it’s taken some time to complete. Today we found the final with its tricky hide. Tried not to disturb the spider and completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC

Day 2 of our epic trek to the St Arnaud Mega via Geelong. As you do. Razz
The constant was my travel companion for the entire trip, - Anymules. but we were joined by almost local cacher Bushfire for a lot of the escapades Cool

Having arrived in Geelong last night we had started visiting waypoints for the numerous multi caches and epic multi stage mysteries.[:o)] Already had some started last visit. Wonder if we will get to finish any this time. Surprised Whilst doing that we managed to actually find these as we motored about! Wink

Yet another evil but at the same time terrific cache by bushfire. TwistedTwistedTwisted So far we had managed to refrain from phoning at all today on our wander about but them we reached GZ. Twisted Scan back through the logs and saw the entry from March about the new locking mechanism. Ah ha..gotcha. [^] Found that and released the lock. Got some vertical movement but couldn't see the prize. Twisted Completely flummoxed we had to ring the CO for help. Red FaceRed Face You have to do WHAT. Sure enough we did as told and there was the cache. SurprisedSurprisedSurprised You are kidding me. Big GrinBig Grin Unbelievable. Smile
An extremely clever and well crafted hide as were the way points. Shame you can only away one FP really. [:X]

**Thanks Bushfire for this cache. ** Big Grin

A great multi with lots of cool stops. And a sneaky hide at GZ - took a PAF to finally find it. FP added.

Thanks for the cache Bushfire.

Stuck at WP2, have found what seems to be the correct structure and double checked calculations, but have been unable to find the container

Grabbed the required information at WP1 and began walking to the next. Unfortunately we had no luck with the micro. Thanks anyway

After the maintenance visit it is all good to go again.

With the numbers unreadable it was time to construct a new container for WPT3 so that being completed it was replaced today for cachers to enjoy this cache again.
Please do not force open the container but simply turn the silver disc on the rear.

With the help of the_tritonz we were able to find the cache as there was an issue with a section of the multi. Nevertheless it was a good adventure and very fun. Cool clever cache in the end thanks!

WPT3 required a little TLC and that has been delivered so all good to go again.
While in the area I checked on GZ and replaced the locking device which had been bent so they are both just waiting for the next finder. Good luck.

At WPT3 the container was still there but there is a problem with being able to read the numbers so a new container has been produced and will be back very shortly.

With a day planned with DAB to collect some solved caches, we met up early and heading off. It was a great day out with reasonable but still hot weather and plenty of laughs.

Well this wasn't in our plan today. DAB and I had both commented saying we would probably never do this cache as we thought it may be too hard. We decided to stop and try it out. We started off with some numbers that just didn't seem to work. Another cacher said we were wrong and to try again. We tried something different, had some better numbers and set off. It was a nice walk, a lot of muggles about today. We reached an area but the co-ords still seemed off. We went a little further down and searched an area. I saw something a little out of place. What is this Surprised It didn't seem to have anything to do with the cache and the hints provided. We looked into it and DAB saw something. Oh no nothing there, oh hang on there is a little bit of paper was stuck in the middle. It had come off the location. We used some fine tweezers and managed to get it. There were some numbers, not easy to read but they seemed to work for near where we were. Off we went, waiting for some more muggles and started searching. Before too long, we tried something a little unusual and the cache fell out. WooHoo [^] I think some luck was on our side today.

**Thanks to Bushfire for hiding this cache for us to find and enjoy**

A day of work off and a pocketful of solved puzzles.......... let the fun begin !! I joined forces today with Na'wal, hoping to clean up some icons on the map. We were initially worried about the early grey skies, but ended up having to put on sunscreen by mid morning !! Thankfully we had no DNF's and even picked up a few bonus hides as well. Thanks to all of the CO's for the brain bending puzzles and clever hides.

This was a bonus for us today, as it wasn't on out to do list. Seeing as we were passing the start point, we thought let's have a look. After getting some numbers we headed of to the next waypoint. After finding something unexpected, we were more than surprised to find that it contained a set of co-ords....... well that was unexpected !! We used those numbers for our next stop, only to discover the cleverly hidden cache container. Surprised We couldn't believe our luck, there were high fives all around. TFTC Bushfire Big Grin

We had done the work necessary for this so long ago that we don't remember when but tonight we had the time to look for the cache. It took quite a bit of work to locate both the coords and the cache. Must admit that as soon as Geoturtle37 yelled out "cache guardian", I knew we were close, lol. This is a great cache and also a great hide. Thanks for both.

07-Dec-18
This has been an epic to gather all the clues. I think it must have been one a visit. Anyway we now have what we think is the final. YAY, it is. Interesting hide, very clever. Thanks for this great journey.

This is exactly the sort of cache that makes you want to geocache. Fantastic hides at every stop. I was frustrated at some points and needed to PAF, lucky they were next to me so they answered their phone! A favourite point given for your fantastic multi Bushfire

Well, that was a mission and a half. Took multiple visits to get there, but today the deed was done. WP1 was fairly straight forward, although the petals are rather faded and difficult to count but logic got me a number that worked. WPT was found and CO can rest assured from previous maintenance note that its in place and fine. There is a decoy object there as well that initially had me wondering if it was gone. Onto WP2a, did what I needed to do and hit WP3. No luck here initially. After a brief chat with CO I returned today with a little more info. Found what I needed after a PAF confirmed I was doing the right thing, I clearly just didnt do it well enough. Then onto GZ. I had a sneaking suspicion pretty quickly but couldnt turn up a cache. I searched for some time before PAF again confirmed I was looking in the right spot but maybe needed to reconsider how to get there. Thanks for the devilish cache, a well earned FP from me.

10-Mar-18
Checked out all WPT's and all are as they should be.
Please be aware that someone is sleeping rough at WPT 1 but their gear is or not that close so should not hamper your gathering of details to project your waypoint.

Went for a walk this morning to get into training for an adventure coming up and took a stroll down to the river to checkout Barwon-Basilisk and GZ was fine even with the two giant coach roaches who were guarding the container. All good even the log is the original with Mr Emu as the FTF and few more spots and the whole reverse side.
WPT3 after the snake has suffered over time so I have removed it and will replace ASAP.
WPT2 is still in place and as I did not have a tool to retrieve I will check on my return with WPT3.
I hear on the grapevine that there are some homeless folk camping near this area but as it is a virtual should not pose too many problems.
Back up in a couple of days.

Walked 250 meters to the posted coordinate from my home.....
continue walking toward the cache which I've been walking and bicycling here many times.
Couldn't believe found it after 5th attempted!
Wow clever hide.
Love it!
Thanks Bushfire

Came back to find it but no luck after 4th attempted.
Where is it?.....must be somewhere *sigh*

Wow what an epic journey this was we had started this one a while ago but never got around to finishing it.
so after 12 months and with a souvenir on offer we decided to finish it
we had the first bits and pieces worked out on our last trip and after an epic hunt at another of the waypoints which stumped us last time we had a likely set of numbers.
arrived at GZ and commenced the hunt after an hour we decided a PAF was in order a previous finder offered up a clue not the location and we set to work again.
Then we noticed something a liitle out of place and woo hoo the find was made.
Thanks Bushfire for the fun and games
a fav added

Sorryfor the late log. I thought I had done it already.

Well today we set ourselves a mission to complete the massive multi so we could claim the unloved day that it had accrued.

WP1 was easy enough the kids went about counting and relaying answers after mum had read out the cache notes. The numbers were written done and calculations were completed. Mmmm middle of the river! Something is not right there. Recheck cache notes, ah there is the problem. That looks more likely, Ok back to the car drink bottles filled and we are of for a walk to WP2.
At WP2 we start or hunt. With many eyes we spread out looking in all sorts of nooks and crannies. I Sims_family dad had exhausted all possible places to hide in my area so I moved on to a different that one of the kids had been searching. I noticed something that looked possible, grabbed a tool from the caching bag to make think easier and bing there it was. We took a photo of the contents to ensure we had reference for later if required. On to WP2a to calculate WP3 the kids did the counting again as dad did the WP projection to get WP3.
We spent way to long at WP3. I thought I was onto something at one stage but that proved worthless. After a long search we sent out a couple of msgs to get some assistance. No replies. Tried PAF who we had messaged as well. No answer. Grrrrrrr we are going to have to come back. We started heading back to the car 50 odd meters up the track the phone yay PAF getting back to us. So back to WP3 after some assistance miss 10 pulls out the goods and says I saw that earlier but couldn't get it out. Why didn't you say something at the time? Oh well we have it now. But how do we get the coordinates from that. Neville_devil says "pass it here I have an idea". Yep that's it now of to GZ.
A short walk to GZ and the hunt is on again. Light is fading mozzies are biting. I have on my prescription sunglasses which are not helping in the faint light. Sims_family mum offers to go back to the car to swap glasses and get bug areoguard. While looking I get a txt from PAF. "Found it yet" knowing just how hard it is. So i call him with the light fading he gives a huge hint and we are able to extract the cache. You are nasty bushfire. Not sure we would have ever found it without the hint but that we will never know. Thanks for the mammoth multi and a fav for your hard work

[orange]Find #428 Multi #25[/orange]

Oh my goodness.... where to start?
This has been on my 'to do' list ever since I started caching.
I came to WPT1 when I was a newbie cacher and stupidly started looking around for a cache that wasn't there. Over about a month I had spent 8 hours there and decided to give up.
Later on, I learnt about different types of caches and that this was a multi cache and 4.5 difficulty, I hit my self on the head.
7 months later, I learnt how to project a waypoint, and I decided to give this a crack. Looked at the boards, collected the information and left the next stage for another day.
A few weeks later, I hid a cache nearby to here but I got a response from Bunjil saying it was too close to a waypoint of this cache. When I went to retrieve my container, I had a look over at this structure and began searching. I spent a good half an hour on it with no luck. An email was sent to Suss Vulture and they gave a kind response but still, I had no luck. I kept looking and looking and then I sent a message to Rampske. Finally one day, I spotted the micro and retrieved it using nature's tools. I took a photo of the directions and coordinates and left it to another day.
Arrived at WPT2A, followed the directions, and went to waypoint three. I had no luck today, finding nothing except a five cent coin. Unfortunately, the coin wasn't lucky. After a PAF I went back to the coordinates... Only it was a different spot! Must of done a typo the first time. Found the extremely clever WPT3 very quickly and surprisingly, I found the coordinates quite quickly. Typed in the coordinates and headed off to a very likely GZ. I checked high, low, South, East, West, North but no find was made. Came back again the next day, with the same result. And the next day. And the next day..... PAF again and I opened the ingeniously hidden chamber of secrets and slayed the eight legged Basilisk within! (I actually just put it on the ground but that's besides the point). I opened Tom Marvolo Riddle's Dairy and wrote our name with blood from the basilisk!
TFTC Bushfire, I have loved Harry Potter ever since I was four. I wasn't allowed to watch the movies but the books were amazing! Thanks for placing a cache based on Harry Potter, I will remember this one for years! A favourite point without a doubt! TNLN SL.

LOG CONTINUED:

I have to thank:
Professor Bushfire
Professor Suscoe
And Professor Darth Briji, for their help in slaying the beast
Now that the Hogwarts year has finished, Rampske has to go back to looking for Tupperware containers (not saving students from the horrible beast from Hogwarts), Thanks again bushfire, an absolutely brilliant cache and amazing idea, your cache hides were second to none and I applaud you for your creativity and I am also sorry to hear that WPT 3 had gone missing but I guess that happens. Well done bushfire definitely the best cache I have EVER found I think it will stay that way for a long time to come. The logbook has been signed and thankfully the Cache guardian decided to huddle up in the corner and not disturb Rampske today, so I am glad for that. I will return to attempt WPT 3 as I would like to see what the container is like. It is always great to see the closest caches to home slowly fill up with smiley faces, after all, Geelong is probably one of the best geocaching districts on Australia and this cache proves why
Thanks again bushfire for A cache that represents Geocaching at its best and I have to say that this cache has inspired me to up the game on my caches, so BE AWARE!!!!!!!!!!!

TFTC TNLN SL
AND A DEFINITE FAVOURITE POINT AS THIS CACHE DESERVES 100 OF THEM

After a quick calculation, I was off on this highly renowned cache! WPT had
Me looking everywhere (just imagine somebody hanging from a roof ) but after a 90minute search, no luck. Sent the CO a message for a hint and had a speedy reply and the little bigger was located instantly, but how do I get it? A tool helped with that. At WPTA I was
Memorised by what I saw, soon at WPT 3 the search began, after 2 long hard attempts I have decided to post a DNF but don't get
Me wrong, I WILL find this guy !!!
TFTH I will be back VERY soon after all it is one of the closest I found caches near my HQ

As others have stated, I've also put this off until now. This evening was perfect, still light, but getting a little late. Not a sole to be seen. WP1 I just managed to spot and had the right tool. Struggled at WP2 until I eventually made the tricky find. But Final had me pretty stumped and the darker it got the more annoyed at myself I became. Got out the torch and then examined a little closer... What's that? How the heck to I get into there...?
Ahhhhhh... another tool helped with that.

Thanks Bushfire for the clever multi
Log eventually signed & replaced. TFTC & smiley face Smile

This multi has had us intrigued for some time, hearing things like "it took a few attempts", "hard" and " a bit of work".
So we had put it off until we were ready to just cache one a night to fill our calendar in.
Tonight was the night!
It's funny how you have lived in the one area for 20 years but still don't quite know what's in your backyard and the starting point of this cache is one such place.
We worked our way through each waypoint amazed at the work and diversity of each hide, until we hit GZ. Ok where is it? We both had different ideas, which I'm happy to say what the other Triton had dismissed earlier when I was adamant that was where it was, was the correct hiding spot.
That's sneaky, clever, devious and diabolical!
That, well deserves a favourite from us, if possible we would give you a fav for every waypoint as well Smile
Thanks very much for the extremely enjoyable hunt Bushfire.

Started out doing this with. Geordiefamily but unfortunately one of the way points had been muggled, so as it had been fixed I continued on. Starting off where I had got stuck before was no easier with the information in place, now what to do with it. Finally figured that out then off to GZ which was a challenge to say the least, but always trusting the information given I final found the devious cache. I would've struggled todo this in daylight. This is what makes caching fun, yet frustrating.
Thanks for an awesome Cache Bushfire.

Received a message that a caching run was planned and we're heading for Geelong. After previous caching trips to Geelong it soon became very obvious that my favourite caches to do were the 'Bushfire' caches Big Grin
To our delight we had some time and this one popped up on the radar, so we couldn't go any further until we had a crack at this one Smile
Started off great guns gathered the required info and we were off. The next step took a while. We looked her, there and everywhere and things were starting to look grim Sad We were determined to find what we were looking for and the Queen came up with an idea and lucky for us we heard the 'found it!' WOW, man your clever!! We were doing the high fives already and we have only really started! [^]
The rest of the steps were found successfully and we couldn't stop talking about it. Then we hit GZ and we looked and looked and looked. Stopping frequently for the muggles to go past which gave us time to think. Finally the well constructed cache was found!! YEEAAHHHHHH Big Grin [^] Big Grin Thanks for another brilliant cache for us to enjoy 'Bushfire' another favourite earned!!

#6183 We were in town with Coruze for a weekend of caching and this one popped up on our radar:
1. Because the difficulty rating suggested a challenge (we're always up for one Big Grin)
2. The cache hasn't been found since February this year (we thought it needed some loving)
We commenced this cache in earnest hoping for some unloved stats for Coruze and knowing that we were going to encounter some twists and turns along the way. In retrospect, the collation at the start was the easy part. WP2 nearly tripped us up but after some consideration the very well hidden information was located, our journey was to continue this day after all Big Grin. We headed further afield and were able to ascertain the information required for WP3 without too much issue (except for our choice of access). At WP3 we found ourselves in a likely spot and after a little head scratching something was uncovered and soon some more co-ords were in hand (that is a condensed version of events so as to give nothing away, lets just say we were blown away). Then it was onto GZ, mmmm another likely location however an extensive search wasn't revealing anything (that and we had to act casually when the occasional muggle came along). After some deliberation we decided to check an area that we hadn't given a good look before a waddayaknow - there was the cache........whew! Without giving anything away, this was such a top rate cache from go to whoa, we had a great time and it was such a bonus to be able to start and complete this multi in the one trip. Our thanks to Bushfire for the fun, a FP from us. Cheers [^]

This guy will be out of action for a few days while I construct a new WPT that is missing!!
It will return. Thanks Jacko83 for bringing it to my attention.

Sunny Sunday and off to do a cache with Timmo. With time to spend an hour or two walking searching and adding, why not choose a multi. This fellow has always been on the mind however maths and difficulty have held me off.

Once at WP1 it was a quick bit of gathering and we saw WP2 was a bit of a walk so decided to take the car. Walked down to spot described in hint, and found something that looked like it would have something hidden in it...checked that, wrong one. Checked the other, grabbed tool from car and soon had instructions in hand.

A short walk down to WP2.5, where we found something that I'm glad wasn't alive as it was a decent sized beast. A short walk to next waypoint and from there we got a bit stuck. Checked high and low, including finding an interesting object in a tree that looked like some kind of sinker, however was not the instructions. A p/c to Roverman advised where to look....searched there, nothing. A call to Doggone, same hint. Yep, can't it! Ready to call it a day and head back to the car I decided to send a quick text to CO, who called and advised looking in spot others had said. Continued the search when a muggle approached calling us bloody Muggles! Bushfire himself had made the trip down. After a quick look confirmed not there- which was dissapointing however glad I didn't ask for a hint for something which could have been in front of my eyes! Bushfire agreed to point us in the right direction and then headed on his way to leave us to search for GZ. Had a fair old search, bloody hell...should have gotten a hint. All of a sudden checked something and then bang, there she was! Now i can see how this fellow gets so many favourite points! Signed log and off on our way.

I need to slow down on these Barwon River caches, as bad as I want to knock them all over I need to save some for sunny days like today! Then again there is still a few spots along the river and Red Ant doesn't seem like he is slowing down on the hides! Thanks again for bailing us out Bushfire, hate leaving a cache wondering if it was actually there or not! TFTC and the work that has gone into the cache.

Tftc did this one a while ago, just catching up on quite a few missed logs.
was a good hide unfortunately had to call for help which was quick to arrive being only a few minutes away. like to see this one fixed up as it is an odd find for cachers.

Truly, truly amazing! Like many others who finally made it, it took us many visits as we slowly worked through the various waypoints and finally arrived at ground zero, only to find that was no guarantee of success. Jinky was an absolute wonder on some of the way points. At ground zero we were much closer than we first thought, not an unusual feeling with a Bushfire cache. John uncovered the cache, feeling quite stunned at the artifice. Hail Bushfire! Definitely a favorite.

Sneakiest hides ever

Persistence pays off and with the car packed and the kids exercised I thought I'd give this one another go, since I managed to gain another waypoint yesterday.
As I arrived at GZ the CO rang about my log yesterday and after a brief conversation he said he'd come down to meet us. I wanted to find this one unaided and just as i got off the phone a constant stream of about a hundred muggles who appeared to be on some sort of organised walk kept wandering past dashing my hopes of finding the cache before the owner turned up. Finally I got a break in the muggle traffic, and by this time my GPS had settled very close to the real GZ and with a bit of a look and poke and prod and a "where the @#4% would Bushfire hide this" and hey presto the cache appeared. Grinning from ear to ear we wandered off to the car to get a pen with log in hand and met Bushfire along the way.
A series of very cunning hides the likes of which I have never seen or dreamed of.
A fantastic cache that easily gets a favourite point, I'd give it 2 if I could.

I have been dreading doing this one but needed a 12/31 for August geomonth. The geowife was at work so off I went without any time pressure. Got the data at WP1 and found my way (drove) to WP2 on the long projection, thought like the legendary Bushfire and there it was. Off to WP2A then and took a little while to unearth the cache - another very clever hide and cache. Dodged a couple of showers and was very excited to be off to GZ after about an hour. I felt confident to break a record here but alas a very thorough search led to nothing. Felt shattered and had to resort to PAF to get a clue to the very devious hide at GZ. It was also muggle heaven so a lot of time was spent pretending to photograph the river. Took a while to extract and rehide the GZ cache while dodging muggles and rain. Expect the unexpected here !! A favourite for me for one of the best caches that I have done. You can always expect a tough time trying to nut out the excellent caches devised by the devious and legendary Bushfire. Well done !! Now, time to pay him back!!

Wow, so finally after months, maybe even years, we have solved the Basilisk, yay! We were stuck at WP3 for what seemed like forever. Our footsteps certainly led us down the wrong path, and for a very long time we were stumped by what we thought we had found. After contacting the CO it was confirmed we were way off track. With some valuable hints, we returned with a new perspective, and some fresh eyes. After not as long as we anticipated, we finally had the clue at WP3 in our grasp.

We knew GZ would be a challenge, but we were up for it. We had come this far, we were not giving up! We arrived at the place our GPS had led us to, and were confronted with a lot of muggle activity. We waited patiently and as soon as we were given the opportunity we hunted. And hunt we did. We were not leaving until we found this. Our determination and team effort finally paid off. We couldn't believe what we found, but this was definitely it! With great care, we unveiled the secret GZ was keeping.

In all our determination and excitement, we somehow forgot to bring a pen! Rookie error. So a quick race back to the car, and we finally signed the log that has eluded us such a long time.

Thank you so much Bushfire! We greatly value all your effort and energy. Certainly earnt a favourite from us Smile

I saw that Ben Hodder was intending to have a crack at this one over weekend, plus this cache has a reputation, so we joined forces knowing 2 sets of eyes are better than one.
What a crafty little series ...yet inspirational. Smile
Definitely deserves a favourite.
Thanks for what is obviously a lot of work gone into this one.
Cheers

What a cache.

I had always looked at this cache and thought one day l will get around to it and then a few weeks ago that day had come.

I started to do a little bit each sunday before l had to go to rovers and today myself and dog-gone thought we would finish this snake off once and for all Smile

each time we would get a way point and then find it, the thought of how much effort has gone into this cache is truly amazing.

congrats to bushfire for another well thought out cache

Well this one had been sitting here for awhile just staring back at me.

With the luck of Zilch under my belt l thought best to use it while l got it!

Started of a WP1, moved quickly onto WP2 where l looked and ended up meeting up with the CO to discuss some other caching related items but was able to find WP2 before he arrived Smile

So onto WP3 and soon there after GZ was in my sights.

As l arrived at GZ l awaited for the muggles to leave then onto it l was.... Well l thought l was anyway.

After looking for 30mins l needed to leave to attended other things l had on my list of things to do but l shall return Smile

Tftc, l will be back

Well, back to the Basilisk ... Bushfire had given John a hint about which tool would be needed at WPT2, which gave a useful lead on the probable location, and we quickly had it! Off to WPT2a, a quick calculation, and then to WPT3 ... where frustration emerged again. Jinky came up trumps here, and John was again in awe of Bushfire. A quick jaunt to GZ ... interesting, but getting dark (but then Jinky only had sunglasses with her!) so we have postponed the final retrieval.

Found this while in town for our sons wedding
Well this was a great one to do meeting up with great friends' what magic work you do

Found along with bogonghazy, honeysuckers and mogni on a beaut Sunday arvo whilst on a flying trip to Geelong to attempt the Fynasford Mystery Cache. This one had all of us going for some time. The males of the search party had actually been right on the mark early in the search for this one, but I managed to convince them that "nope" they were barking up the wrong tree. Had to beg forgiveness after the very clever find was made. Log was eventually signed and returned. Well done Bushfire. There's no doubt about you, very good!!! Thanks, we thoroughly enjoyed the cache.

21-Apr-13
Met up with Honeysucker and Mogni here after joining up with Sully1 earlier in rhe day. We really enjoyed every WP here, so much thought, time and effort put into another Bushfire cache.
GZ was a cracker, and it was only honeysucker's persistance that paid off here and the prize was in hand.
Of course I'm adding another fave point here, love your work!

Wow I am exhausted just thinking about this one. A very clever cache that has had a lot of time and thought put into it. Definitely not one to do alone.
Thanks

Well, what an epic this has been! Where do we start? We don't even remember WHEN we started unravelling the trail of the Basilisk.
It was definitely more than 12 months ago that we went to WP 1, found all the required information, calculated and followed the bearing. So far, so good. From there on, every WP hung on to its secret and forced us to return at least once. What a relief it was when the vulture finally spotted the sneaky hide. By then, we knew the place very, very intimately. Woohoo, off to the next step!
WP 2A: A great structure, which easily showed us the general area of the next hide. However, WP 3 proved to be a beautiful spot but relentless in keeping its secret. We came here many times, poked and pondered, often interupted by walking, jogging or bike-riding muggles, but we just did not "get it". Hmm, we needed a lifeline. Our usual informants, Team Indiana08, were overseas, so we could not be tempted to call them. And we were too proud to contact the CO, though we were sure he would have enjoyed seeing uns struggle and helping us out of our misery. So, we kept coming back - until Team Indiana08 returned from their travels. We gave in, swallowed our pride and asked for help. After a friendly nudge, suss finally made the find and could not believe what she found: we should have expected the unexpected (how does one do that, Bushfire???). Ok, off to the final stage.
And that is where we have been coming every now and then for the last 7 months. We found everything: muggles on 2 legs, four legs or two wheels, moths, and all the hungry mozzies in the world. We heard rustling in the shrubs, saw birds and bats - but not a cache. The pesky muggles and other creatures often stopped us in our tracks.
Tonight we came here again. We donated lots and lots of blood but were able to investigate without too much muggle traffic coming past. We just knew: It's now or never. Well, we still needed to phone our trusted friend, and he gave us a very cryptic hint. We tried a few places until finally: We nailed it! Parseltongue, we got you!
Massive thanks to Bushfire for this magnificent effort! We knew that the "wow" factor would be great, and we have not been disappointed. Despite the help we required, we got there eventually. And now we feel like we have finally graduated as "proper" geocachers. Big Grin
Definitely a favourite point from us.

I did not repair the old container but there is a new WPT3 in the same location as it was before so all is well to go again. Please treat it carefully.

23-Jan-13
Down the river this afternoon to check what was happening and on checking WPT3 discovered that the container has either had some brute force used on it or over time the glue has lost it's grip.
I have removed the way point (Container) until I can put it back together and return it to its location.

This would have to be THE hardest cache I have tackled. It was a happy face that I badly wanted to have on record as I just love Harry Potter.

I never take a bushfire cache lightly so I decided that I would tackle each waypoint slowly. However it soon became apparent at WP1 that a little nudge was needed. Over 12 months it became a shove and finally hold my hand, so that my mark could be made yesterday.
Each WP could easily have been a stand alone cache worthy of a favourite in its own right. These devilish hides ensured many visits, to each waypoint whenever I passed through Geelong on my travels further a field.
The time and effort that has been put into this epic can only be imagined. It’s these inventive hides that make our game so interesting.
The patience of B. too must be stressed as there were many phone conversations over my year long quest.
All I can say is a big thank you to B. for this inspirational cache challenge and for your support throughout my journey.
A fav.

While in the area I thought I had best check GZ out as it is some time since I was here. The guardian (Mrs Huntsman) and her bag of eggs was in residence but did leave her home so I carefully removed the cache and the tool beside it and checked out the container but it took a bit to reassembly but got there in the end.
I noticed the Easter Bunnies signature as the last on the log.
All is well but I must have a look at WPT3.

12-Dec-12
After our 5th or maybe even 6th failed attempt at this one over the last 12 months, we though it was about time we log our current attempt. This one is proving to be very challenging for us. Bushfire has certainly lived up to his reputation with this snakey cache.

We found and conquered WP2 a fair while ago and have been stuck at WP3 for months now. We have been to the location multiple times as we are in this area quite often. Every time our search proves unsuccessful. We always leave feeling defeated, yet somehow still determined to return and succeed. This time we finally found what we believe we are looking for. With tools in hand we got to work trying to figure out what to do here. Once again, the puzzle (and the mozzies) got the better of us, so we will return soon to tackle it all again. Our thinking caps are on and hopefully we will come up with something soon and move on to GZ. Thanks Bushfire for the challenge so far. Although we haven't yet reached out destination, we are enjoying the journey Smile

30-Nov-12
Armed with a clue from the CO, I headed off again to tackle this serpent. Success at WP2 at last but not before many trips to the car to get the correct tools.
In the end i took the whole kit and caboodle to help. After finally retrieving the necessary info I sat and had a refreshing cup of coffee.
Sat 'to think' and use brain power at the new co-ords but guess I had brain fag. Walked around up and down and decided once again that another trip was in order. I see there is a new clue now. It wasn't on my GPS. Maybe it will help next time.
Cheers Bushfire. Hope you are enjoying your holiday.

Still stuck at WP2. Will have to come back again to solve it. Gave it a thorough, but not thorough enough, search.
Cheers Bushfire.

Still stuck at WP3.

What an epic multicache! It took us 4 months of visiting on and off to finally crack this one. A clever series of hides that really test your skills. We met Littlemerpip at WP2 during an afternoon search and he ended up giving an extra hint to move us along. At WP3 we spent a number of visits looking in the incorrect spot and eventually the next clue was found. GZ proved the most challenging as, similar to WP2, there seem to be so many possibilities for a hide. Something kept looking out of place but we couldn't work out how it could be related to the hide. Littlemerpip confirmed we were on the right track and this morning we were finally able to make this find! A challenging cache that lives up to its difficulty rating and gets you thinking about different possibilities for caching containers! TFTC

31-Aug-12
Right at the start I decided to take this one slowly. Projected the waypoint and with confirmation
from CO headed down today to start the search.
As expected I will have to come back again. I think you enjoy this Bushfire.

17-Aug-12
Well this was certainly an adventure in caching and quite simply, some of the best hides I have come across! I actually started this one back in January and got stumped at WP2 so decided to come back later and have another go. Well it was August before I finally got back and started the search again. This time I was searching between muggles when one of them asked if I had found it yet? Obviously not a muggle and it was good to meet the Easter Bunnies. A teamwork approach search was undertaken for a while before another comment of "with three of you you should be able to find it", good to finally meet bushfire. Anyway, kept searching even when the Easter Bunnies and bushfire headed off. Returned last week for another go and this time I tried the PAF option and phetlern gave me a big hint but I didn't have the right tool so left for another day. Back last Tuesday evening armed with the right tool and finally had WP2 in hand. Off to WP2a where the basilisk was encountered and defeated and WP3 was found after a good search - another really good hide. So off to GZ at last where I spent a good hour (in the dark) combing everything but couldn't find it - arrrrgh. So another call to phetlern to find out I had been incrediby close but not close enough for the find so came back today to finally knock this one on the head. The guard huntsman was fully in residence and didn't like being disturbed so I was very careful and returned without disturbing it too much!

All in all a fantastically difficult cache that deserves it stars, and fave point (one from me as well) and it will take several visits to get, you do need to bring your tools and your caching eyes to find it, thanks heaps to bushfire, you best challenge so far!

08-Aug-12
Add my name to the list of cachers hunting this one - had a second go tonight at WP2 (my first attempt was more than 6 months ago!) but even with help from the Easter Bunnies, still didn't find it! Will be back to try again.

08-Aug-12
After a number of notes and DNF,s it was time to check out WPT2 and yes it is still there. WPT3 is also where it is supposed to be and nice and dry and I have added a new hint.

02-May-12
A note to make Flying Platypus feel a bit better. We are at WP2 as well. We never approach a "Bushfire" cache lightly. We are partially through more than one of his right now. We will get there, but the amount of searching and contemplation, is incompatible with hanging around the various stages of caches. Maybe we need a "Progress report" type of log!

01-May-12
Got to WP2 fairly easily but stuck there. Will have to return with "tools"
Surely there have been others in the past nearly 5 months who have had similar frustration and not logged a DNF.

11-Dec-11
I've worked out the coordinates for WP2 a while ago, but didn't have much luck finding it. Today i was riding my bike along the river and decided to have another go, this time i had the right tool with me and found it quickly. my luck run out at WP3. Will try again another time.

14-Oct-11
What I think is my 5th visit for this one.
Today I was hoping to make the find after getting muggled out of the 3rd waypoint on my last visit.
After trying and failing to find WP3 I went back to WP2 to get the info again and redid my calculations this placed me about 8 metres from where I was looking and the info for GZ was soon in hand.
We set off for the find but with constant muggles, fading light and the time to be elsewhere fast approaching we couldn't locate the cache.
After rereading the cache notes I have an idea where I should have looked, so hopefully visit 6 will pay the dividend.
Enjoying the clever hides
Thanks

I started this one last time I passed through Geelong. I made an error in my math and headed off in the wrong direction and not surprisingly didn't find anything. this time with the correct coordinates I still couldn't find anything, there must be a thousand places here to hide a nano. Maybe next time?

11-Oct-11
3rd find of the day, and 3033rd total find at 12:41:00 PM.

Grabbed this cache on an impromptu mid-week caching run to Geelong.
This one has been on our list for quite a while, and has proved to be a bit of a nemesis for us. Even today, when we had the correct tools, we still had to make a slight detour when an unforeseen dyslexic moment when entering some coordinates presented us with a unique opportunity to bag a totally different cache a little earlier than we originally intended.

After arriving at the unplanned GZ we resorted to phoning a friend to ask "where's the snake?" Oops wrong coordinates, Ian now wishes he had made a note of the WP2 instructions instead of entering them directly into the GPS.

Back at WP2 we corrected the transposed digits and headed off anew, in the correct direction this time. At WP3 we did the correct activity, but didn't project a new waypoint - just paced out the distance.

The hide at WP3a, or is it WP4 eluded us for some time but finally gave up its secret. Did you know that the predecessor of this device was designed on, and was the size of a table napkin? This device was so much better than its predecessor, smaller, yet larger in capacity and it was specifically designed to fit into a mans shirt pocket.

GZ is a work of sheer brilliance, although we did find the battery in the electronic device to be a little flat.

Took: Nothing
Left: Nothing
Thanks Bushfire for the cache

Phew!! What an epic! Several weeks ago I got to WPT 1, did the calculations, went home to sort out how to project a waypoint (beyond the capacity of my phone)- so far so good. Knew where I was likely to end up. Went to look for WPT2...found the place but no luck with the cache. Looked again, and again...still nothing. Sad Took the family and between them - with my expert instruction - hubby and geo-kid 1 made the find.
Okay! On to WPT2a. No surprises there. Know this part of the river, knew where I was headed. Got the info and off to look for WPT3. Smile
Oh boy!!! Lost count of the number of times I went back for this one. Looked high, looked low...found a well secreted item, but had no idea what to do with it. Was it the right thing? Went off to think about it. Showed Geo-hubby he thought too... [?]
Was elsewhere on the river on Friday and happened upon a gentleman who was far too interested in why we were there - hello Bushfire! I WAS genuinely taking photos for my blog...and collecting a couple of caches!! By the way said I, I'm trying to solve Barwon Basilisk, stuck at WPT3. Hmmm...
Yes, I'm in the right place, no, the item I'd found was not relevant (still not sure why it's there). One very small suggestion. Back I went on Saturday and lo and behold...a few minutes searching in places I'd been many times before...and there it was...WPT3. Still not even sure if that hint was the reason I found it.
Quickly found the co-ords and off to GZ.
Hmmm...GPSr didn't like this location at all! Back again with Geo-kid 1, by now was forming a close relationship with a family of butcherbirds nearby but still no luck with the cache. Back home to read the logs and think some more. Returned today with imminent rain keeping the muggles away, looked a little more carefully where I'd looked before...now that couldn't be co-incidence, but where was the cache?? Another thought and YES!! There it was! And no hairy guardians! [^]
Resisting the urge to laugh hysterically, I retreated up the hill to sign the log, descended again to return it, headed back up once more only to find myself confronted by a distant relative of the basilisk itself, standing guard over the cache from above (see photo). I quickly paid my respects and headed for home.
Thanks Bushfire for an amazing cache!

Today was the day we intended to bowl over a few of the longer multis and with Grave Situations completed and the back broken on Wordsmith it was time to tackle this one. Knowing that braver (wo)men had come before us and many had failed we were confident that 3 sets of Bendigo trained eyes would prevail. And we did. There's some nice wpts in this one. TFTC

A day to spend on just a few challenging caches with Team Morris.
We could say this is thoroughly overrated and not really deserving of a 4.5 difficulty classification, but that wouldn't be correct . . . . . . . would it Bushfire! . . . . . . misleading and deceptive - certainly!
We originally commenced this cache with Ian & Penny and found the initial information and task within our ability. It was interesting that we used three different devices to calculate distance and bearing (iGCT on a SmartPhone, GPSmap62s and Oregon) and each one gave a different answer with something like 57 meters between the two furthest readings!
At WP2 we failed on our interpretation of Parseltongue and as cache fatigue had clicked in we decided to come back another day!

Today we returned with Robyn of The Morris to conquer the basilisk! A thought at WP2 (which had subsequently been confirmed by the cache owner), but that had not been followed through thoroughly enough during our previous visit, found P-P with a device quickly in hand and we were off to the next WP.
Now, to tell any more would give away the ending to an intriguing story and, in true film appreciation style, that wouldn't be fair to those yet to enjoy the outcome. Suffice to say, amid challenges and interruptions from the muggles, we persisted and with skills from another world (the sharp eyes of Robyn and the curiosity of H-P), we eventually had the GZ sussed out and a communication device in hand to reveal the secret.
This cache could be classified as somewhat deceptive, but then again the Basilisk is a form of snake and snakes are forked tongued aren't they!

TNLN . . SL . . Thanks for a really great (if not frustrating at times ) hunt Bushfire.

PS - There are some absolutely masterful hides associated with this cache.

Know this part of the river well. Read the signs, did the calculations, projected the WPT, landed right where I thought I would, all good. No time to have a proper look, so a couple of quick checks at WPT 2 in passing...nothing. Waited until weather was good and time available...back I went...nothing. Read cache notes, read clue, read logs...nothing. Prodded, poked, peered, pondered still nothing. Clearly 7 years of university did not help to develop the sharp analytical skills I'd hoped! Back to the drawing board!

Sorry that this cache has been off line for so long but natural and man made disasters cannot be avoided.

06-Apr-11
Finally the area has been reopened by Barwon Water so I can organize WPT3 which was under water at the height of the recent floods and make a new cache to place at GZ. Will be back up and running shortly.
