Well we headed down to Tanguisson on the scooter with the original intent to find some caches. When we arrived, we met a Chuukese man who was camped out with his family there. We offered him a beer and had simple conversation with him as he spoke broken English. He told us to follow him, so we did and soon realized we were getting a guided tour of the coastline. We hiked all the way to the end, but not quite up to the pond. On our return, I thought I would try to find this cache and show him the basic idea of Geocaching. Well, as you could imagine I felt pretty dumb when we couldn't find the cache and he thought we were crazy. Ever try explaining Geocaching with a language barrier? I found the lusong at the base of a coconut tree... This is where the coordinates took me anyway. But no cache...? Maybe I'll give it another try cause I didn't have time to visit the other coords to see all the lattes. Was I at the wrong lusong?

With permission from Jimp59, I went out today and replaced the cache. It is a small cache and you will need to bring a pen to sign the log...if you have time, I recommend you check out the Latte in the area.

After leaving the Geocaching Birthday Party at Ypao Beach, we headed to up to grab this one. Well, I didn't load all of the waypoints, so it got confusing. I was standing pretty much on top of the cache apparently. We didn't find it today, but we're going back tomorrow. It's a good idea to bring plenty of water. Met a lot of nice people while walking the beach though.

When I heard latte stones I was like I’m not going in there, I’ll get fa’nague (spooked) by the taotaomotnas. Well I was pressured by sannnROX, Sher_Bear, Vio, and 671stargazer, to go in cause I know how to ask permission in Chamoru. To freak the group out I decide to chant the long version “guelo yan guela kao sina yu malofan gi tano miyu yan gin mato gi tanohu ti nisita ma fisin.”

We get in and start trampling in the jungle when I see a losong (mortar and pestle), then we see other fallen lattes. Makes me sad to see that our historical site such as these is not well preserved. A fallen latte to me represents colonialism.

We stroll along the area, and I can’t help but realize that this was a huge ancient village. Rocket finds the cache behind the losong. Then we laugh cause we just make a circle around the latte village.

I’m glad we got to see these ancient sites before they get cleared or something. Si Yu’os Ma’ase sinahu.

Definitely a site to see! I'm glad we were able to walk through time to see what our ancestors left behind. Thanks again Jim! I love this place and makes me proud to be Chamorro!

Woohoo find number 4 for the Team Duck Hunters on our "Lost Pond Is Found Again Tour 2009!!" 671stargazer, iJosh, Rocker, sherbear, purple, my sister Lani, and I are on a mission to get to Shark's Hole / Lost Pond today and I plotted our course to stop by all the caches in the area before we get there. We'd just found Cache By the Sea and I made sure to load all the waypoints for all the latte stones into Carmen (my GPS).

We re-douse ourselves with three more coats of OFF! spray and head in! Its getting a little late (we were on a timed schedule and were running a little behind) so I kinda wanted to bypass all the latte sights and take us straight to the third site and eventually to the lusong to get the cache. But we couldn't help ourselves, we were amazed at the history that was there. Of course, we asked permission before entering the area and the first thing we come to is a wild pig's teeth. UHM...guys...I don't wanna know who or WHAT ate him...but I'm ready to RUN if necessary! I was too focused on getting to the third site that iJosh, sherbear, and stargazer were pulled to the suni plantation. I stop to wait for them and stargazer stops and HOLY COOL! there's a complete LATTE STONE IN HERE!! *stop to take pictures* I apologize to the group for bypassing the second site because I knew it was there, but didn't think it they were interested in seeing it. OH BOY was I wrong! A few feet from it, stargazer finds a lusong, I tell her to look around it the cache could be there. But I'm still showing that I'm far from it on Carmen. We keep heading in the direction and pass over a tasa. I'm still amazed that all this is still in here.

Stargazer leads the way with me pointing her where to go and we eventually make it to the lusong we need to be at. Sherbear even comments that that's the first time she'd seen one complete with the mortar AND pestle together. Normally when we see it its one without the other. Amazing. Its covered with spiders, so I just let the boys go in and get it. A minute goes by and Rocket calls BINGO!

Again, surprisingly the log is relatively dry. We were able to sign it. Left a rubber ducky Big Grin
In the past four days alone I have seen more and visited more sights than I ever would have thought possible. Thanks for placing a cache in here and allowing us to revisit our history!

This was quite a step back into history. Seeing the ancient latte stones and bricks and mortars was breathtaking. Even more so was the walk through what was once inhabited by ancient CHamorus. That gave me chills from head to toe. I really appreciated this cache. I wish we had more time to appreciate every inch of the sight... TFTC. Very Happy

With a holiday and a negative tide we took a group of adventurers out to Shark's hole to enjoy some quality snorkeling. This was a perfect day for a hike up the northeast coast. There were plenty of fishermen out today. On the way we took a tour of the latte sites and snagged the cache. We had the fun of introducing new friends (taranto) to a well out of the way / historical / cultural geocache. It's so nice to have the coordinates at our fingertips... it sure beats finding them as we have in years past. TFTC TNLN SL

Most awesom-est cache I've found on this trip. I loved the path leading to the cache, and gave my respects to each site as we passed through. So amazing to walk through the past on this little trek. THANKS FTC!! T-Shark TB, L-Guam Magnet.

We started off right at the cache site because I failed to read the description right. We did hit all the sites which were amazing and a testament to the skills of these people to have something made by man stand the test of time in this environment. We had a difficult time finding the cache because from one side of the grinding stone it looked like a regular stone. Silly me. Thank you for bringing us here. SL

Found this morning while caching in the area with Jimp59 and Ungkulu. This was a very interesting site with all the different Latte stones. I did not realize that they were so old.
Thanks for bringing me here!

lilmsmuffet and I headed out to do the Tangisson caches today.
We started w/ jimp's Puzzle #1, then went on to this one.

We found the first site, 4 latte stones, then wandered for a bit. After a few minutes I spied the grindstone. Sure enough the cache was just around the coconut tree! But we never did see the other latte stone sites. Oh well!

The cache was damp and I removed some of the pretty yucky swag; grabbed the old log too, I'll return it to the owner as soon as I see him.

The new log's fine and in a ziplock! Thanks for bringing us here. Will post lilmsmuffet's pics soon!

Decided to take a hike after work today and took Mrs. Blygoat to do this and Found Pond. Found the first latte stones without a problem. Then decided to go straight to the cache. The cache is in good condition. Thanks for bringing us here! TFTC-SL.
