Great Northern escape 2022 Day 95. Tully Day 9. I had left myself one day to explore the region so I headed out to the Mission beach area. I was rewarded with my first every wild adult Cassowary sighting. I managed a few caches and a nice walk on the beach. I also visited an amazing river on the flat area west of the highway. It is very interesting in amongst the cane fields.
This inland drive was great, cane trains around, the road going through a tunnel of cane, I thought the area was great. The final was a bit of a worry with a big pile of fresh dirt, but the cache was safely in its spot. I did not make the descent to the river, but it looked fantastic from the top of the cliff.
Thanks for the cache craigsam

Tyfty. Nice drive, lovely creek. Found with NutCacheBNE our last for the day in this area.
Took a bit, nav was out at first. I must say we xl at this. How did that rock get there though.
One of my favourite swimming spots around. The log was a bit damp so put the cache in into a zip lock bag.
21/10/21 Find #5105
Day 13 of our road trip adventures. Fangsoki and I checked out of Atherton early to make our way towards Mission Beach, with the obligatory additional stops along the way.
Driving down here, aside from a detour due to some bridge works or something, we did have to wait for someone who had parked on the little creek crossing bridge, while his mate was taking photos under the bridge/over the other side, but then made it to GZ problem free.
There was a car parked over the road from here but no occupants about, so we dashed in to make our find quickly. Not sure how the cache had been knocked out of the hide from behind its rock, but we placed it back in securely.
Thanks for the cache craigsam.

1MinnieMoo and I were on our way to Mission Beach and we decided to drop in on this one.
We had to take a large detour due to some bridgeworks. But we soon found ourselves arriving at GZ. There was a car nearby - but thankfully not near the cache. 1MinnieMoo and I brought the cache to light and we signed it and rehid it.
A great little area to visit. Incidentally, this cache is currently the 889th oldest active cache in Queensland (a place shared with 3 other caches). TFTC craigsam

Lovely spot - had to read the other finds in order to locate the cache, but it was quickly in hand.

Hey guys,
In my search today I found both, old and new, caches. Signed them both and returned them exactly where they were found.
Old cache looks just like the rubbish around the area. Very good good disguise and the rocks distinguish from the rubbish.
New cache more easily accessibly and definitely a rock in a weird place.

Quite the adventure to get to this one. Google maps took us off-road and had the Mrs gripping the seat and grinding her teeth. After a few Km it wanted to take us up a huge slope where another vehicle had fallen victim to the terrain.
Back to navigating with Cachly for a pleasant drive trough the cane fields to GZ.
A little fanning out had the cache in hand at a likely spot.
Thanks craigsam for creating and placing this for us to enjoy.

Been quite a few months since this was last found. Out there on a muggles free day and searched unsuccessfully for a long time. Too many rubbish and leaf litter to risk digging around with hands. Not to worry though - swim was so worth the trip. Thanks for bringing us to this beautiful spot. Saw Ulysses butterflies, saw Azure Kingfishers and fed horseflies, (Marchflies) to fish. Such a great day. TFTC
Dnf this, didn't even see too many rocks, and none in a weird place (hint). Had a good look around. Went for a paddle in the cold clear water and had a nice drive so wasn't a wasted drive.
Searched for a while but did not find it. The hint did not help us, either. Moreover, we saw two snakes basking on the road on our way to the cache. That really really did not help when it came to searching in damp and long grass. We still continued our search but it was not as thorough as planned, due to the hanging fear of reptilians lurking in the grass.
But the spot where we were led was out of the humdrum of the cane machinery and was tranquil. If not pressed for time, we would've definitely fancied a swim

This cache was showing up in an out of the way place today
That's reason 'nuff to go and find it
I followed the main road out of Silkwood and at the expected spot,
saw a weather beaten sign next to the tramway which told me I was on the right track
And after a twisting drive through the canefields I passed the local water supply plant,
and headed into the forest to GZ.
Nobody at GZ,
but I could already hear that someone was having a swim down below.
A 10 minute search finally revealed the cache's hiding spot
(It should have only been a two minute search !!)
Logbook signed,
I wandered down to the creek.
Wow !!
A beaut swimming hole [^]
A bit cool today for me,
but this would be a great spot in a month or two as the temps soar [^]

Great hide, lovely spot, met some locals who were quite interested in what we were doing, log in good condition but a little damp, also picked up a TB, tyfc
On my 2nd trip to this hidden gem I was able to quickly find the replacement cache
Amazing spot! Checked this place out after visiting Paronella park. Trackable left maybe this will bring more visitors to this cache! Don’t be deterred by the road it is passable in any vehicle. Nice place for a dip!TFTC!
Well....bummer....I wanted to find this unloved cache, on international geo day....I came, I hunted, by a few different co ords.....no luck unfortunately.....but an amazing find on an area, thanks to this cache. Cheers....
What a beautiful spot and tucked away in the back blocks. I enjoyed the drive through the cane paddocks and then the bush to get in here.
Amazing location! I love when geocaching takes you to those out of the way locations. We didn't stop for a swim, but told geo-parents about it as they are up this way often. Almost got busted, which we couldn't believe, as a guy on a dirt bike rocked up while we were searching. He pointed out a way down to the water hole and then moved on, so we were able to make the find. A shame about people leaving so much rubbish here though . Thanks karicka for replacing the container.
Second visit with an improvised container. This place is too good to be without a cache.

I checked out which road to take via Google Earth before leaving my lodgings then headed off. Got to GZ and searched around for a while before finding the cache with a saturated log. Was able to scratch my signature on the paper...just! I had no replacement or plastic bags sorry. TFTC craigsam.
Awesome spot shame the spot hasn't got a touch more area to camp in. Thanks
No roads were showing on iGeoknife which is the caching app we use but fortunately we could see where to go using the satellite image
Thanks to darrlyn1 we were able to find the replacement container tucked in beside the original and sign a nice, clean log.

Container soaked. Shifted ruined notebook to new container, dried old one and mended with blue tack added new paper & original trinkets. Put back in hidey place
A bit of a search was required but adventually found it made some running repairs to container 2wd cars would be ok as long as not wet or raining tftc darrlyns
We thought we were really going bush with the drive in to this one. However the drive in was certainly worth the effort.
This cache needs some help very soon. It's totally soaked and if you catch it now you might save the logbook. Unfortunately we didn't have the right supplies for this site to help.

TFTC! Found it but TNLN. It needs replacing because it's not water-proof log book was damp and holes in the lid. Good hide
had no idea where it was. the gps was trying to lead us through a gate. not really sure where it actually was.
Well Well what an interesting trip out here - the road after the rain of the last few days is not too bad but after the sugar Cane fields it becomes more interesting – looks like they are doing road works here but the low sections I could feel the 4wd digging in into the water / mud so into 4wd high – GZ was quiet today – I wonder why, you will need gum boots – anyway cache found after a short search – I should have taken a photo of car, it used to be white - TFTC
Well on my way up to Cairns with plenty of time to burn thought I'd take a nice detour to not only knock this cache over (I have had my eyes on the prize for a while) and to kick off my 31 days of caching in August.
Nice place. Nice hide. Log very wet. Did my best to dry it out.

A car load of muggles arrived at GZ just before us. We'll have to head back some time as it's a great spot. TFTH.
Lovely spot to drive to there were two muggler cars in front if us that stopped in the same location however cache was signed and replaced lovely spot. TFTC

# 726 The Monkeys and Champs have never been Campers, but with boss lady working up to Christmas and a severe lack of caches to find in the immediate area, it was decided to go for the first of what will likely become a regular C+2M CampCaching Expedition. With tent and three bikes in the back, we travel when and where we like and find food (or McSubstitute) where we can.
Day 4/4Cache 46/47
After smashing my phone yesterday, we skipped a lot of caches to get to Telstra in Cairns to get a replacement. After being stuffed around, the only option was to head home.
A nice little drive out, a near head on with a couple of trail bikes, a quick find and we are back on our way.

Nice drive out on our day of finding and dropping caches in the area. Lid of cache is starting to be nibbled by the wildlife n may not survive the upcoming wet. SL. Beautiful spot. Thanks for sharing it!
Up in the Cairns area for a week and decided to do some caching too! Quick walk and find for this cache on the river. Lovely area and nice drive in, Thought for a short time that we wouldn't get in due to a broken down truck but they made a way for us to get through.

While the drive out to the cache was interesting enough, I can see how some cachers could easily become disorientated and take a wrong turn. There are gravel roads and dirt tracks everywhere.
After following the main route in we turned right at an intersection showing an arrow to Nyletta. We followed this track around and if we were faced with a choice in which track to follow, we chose the higher choice (on the left) both times.
This lead us onto a set of gravel tracks which took us past the Nyletta Guide Building and right to the cache GZ.
The clue provided was very helpful and after a brief search we had located the cache.
Walter, Ingrid and I signed the cache. I took nothing and left nothing.
Thanks Craigsam for an interesting, out-of-the-way and slightly more challenging to locate cache.

We were brought here by a most knowledgable driver, Wazza&Kara. He straight away found the right place and also discovered the sophisticated hide. It is really a peaceful place where cooling down in the water is a pleasure.

Found the cache without too much trouble.
The lid has been slightly chewed by rodents,
and the contacts were a tiny bit mouldy, but the contents are still ok.
This is a lovely spot to visit, and well worth the drive.

We will gladly change this to a DNF if the owner confirms the cache is still in place. We didn't find it despite matching up with the Hint and there hasn't been a log since June last year. However, we did enjoy the drive out there and it certainly is a peaceful spot, so thank you for taking us there.
So, as promised, we've changed the note to a DNF. Well done, furryboy, please remember they are only easy if they are found!!

couldnt find it.. spent a few hours looking around..
cant find it. even with a gps we were testing out

Just a note to say that some of the road to Nyleta Creek goes through private property so please go slow past houses. I am yet to search for this one, due to unreliable GPS, cant wait to find it. Happy Hunting
Loved the drive. took a wrong turn and drove across the stream, lots of fun with the bow wave right up to the lights. A easy find when we got back on track but we are concerned for the footwear that is standing silently nearby. Where are the owners? Left a croc to enjoy the waters.
Found it courtesy of Mr TomTom. Yes a few detours but we got here. What a great hidden jewel of north Queensland. I am so glad that geoCaching takes me to places like this. I will return. TFTC. SL.

We were a bit doubtful about this one as it seemed that the road in might be hard to find. I put the cache's coordinates into Tom Tom and Tom Tom promptly showed a route in. "OK", I says, "all we have to do is follow Tom Tom" Val is a bit doubtful - Tom Tom once pointed us up a tree covered eroded mountain track that might have been a road in the 18th Century. We had the caravan swinging on the back of the car at the time, and turning around was a wee challenge. Val believes that Tom Tom is a treacherous @!$%#&^. Give a Tom Tom a bad name - this time we ended up in someone's plantation of trees the name/use for I do not know. After we had backed out sufficient to turn around the evil one led us the rest of the way in through the cane fields and rain forest. The view as one enters the valley is really lovely. At the cache site, we met no march flies. It really was peaceful. Got a pretty good GPS fix which zeroed out a couple of metres from the cache. Val spotted it almost immediately. One up for the ladies. Signed the log and walked around to view the area. Then continued on our caching expedition.
Thanks for taking us into such a lovely region.
Cheers, and Good Hunting!

Our 4th cache for the day. A pleasant drive to GZ as it reminded us of home. Mr burdair thought he had GZ all worked out before we pulled up (his guess ended up being wrong I might add ) and it was going to be a nice quick find. But whilst we were locking the car we heard another set of car doors shutting. So we had a quick chat to the owner lucky for us he was only parking, they were about he paddle their way down the lovely Nyletta. The GPS wasn't really a lot of help as it was jumping all over the place pretty sure this was because of the dense tree cover but it may have been because we were jumping all over the place slapping the BLOODY march flies. Never ever have we seen so many march flies in the one spot before and I react badly to their bites so we nearly left but we had come so far so the search continued. Eventually the rock in a weird place was spotted but I didn't spot the thorn on the small orange in front of it in time. TNLN Signed log very quickly and we were out of there still slapping march flies on the way. Thanks for the detour.
Basically what waynecarly said below... waaayyy too many flies!! Little difficulty with the gps but eventually got it. Cheers
Joined Chatmanais & Craig of craigsam in the hunt for our first cache of several for the day. This one was just a short drive from home and we thought it would be relatively easy. We were wrong. We reached the end of the road and after several attempts we finally got a semi-accurate fix with the gps and located GZ whilst Craig took a few photos. Filling out the logbook whilst contending with some ravenous local march flies (like a blow-fly crossed with a mosquito) was the challenge. After leaving a short note and returning the cache to its hiding spot, we ran back to the car and escaped from the blood-sucking insects with a few quick photos.

The description of the drive in is very accurate as we did pass through all of the areas listed. Took a wrong turn at one stage and got to try out a creek crossing twice. Told the intrepid one it was my way of washing under the car. Then proceeded to coat with a layer of dust.

No problem driving into this cache, in non-4WD car. Fabulous little drive, loved the view over the cane fields as we travelled. What a fabulous little swimming hole. Could not believe people were swimming in it...talk about brass monkeys!
Took a while for me to find the cache, the GPS couldn't get a fix. In the end, threw out the GPS and used my brain - bingo. Took a rubber spider thing and left a couple crafty things.
Thanks for the drive and cache!

Got to this one just as the heavens decided to open up. Still, through the rain and mud we were able to find the cache and nab the FTF. Signed the log at 1030 but future cachers will note we accidently put the date as 10/5/08. Oops. Took the orange eraser head and left a squishy frog.
