Found by the VIIPERS. There may not be snakes on Norfolk Island, but now there are VIIPERS. We are V(al Cybergran V) I(an icybeetas) I(an Riddell) P(am weirdobiker) E(velyn SciFiRulz) R(onice Ronice88) and S(ylvia Riddell who is with us in spirit.)Found on our visit to the island, this was very steep terrain. A group of geocaching friends consisting of Val (Cybergran V), Ian (half of the team Riddell) Ian (icybeetas) Pam (weirdobiker) Evelyn (SciFiRulz), Ronice (Ronice88) and Sylvia (half of team Riddell) are touring Norfolk Island with the aim of finding every cache here. This was a quick find of a cache in good condition and the log signed as Viipers to save space. Thank you richlink for placing and maintaining it as this cache enhanced our visit to this beautiful island.

One day richlink you are going to get old too. Then youll understand why octogenarians send the youngest, fittest members of the team up steep slopes. Thanks for the cache, and the views.Adding another favourite point to your tally with gratitude from VIIPERS ~ Val, Ian, Icy, Pam, Evelyn, Ronice, and Sylvia (sadly at home).

29-Nov-24
That was a hell of a climb. Be prepared for the ascent and the decent. Boots were handy here. Signed as VIIPERS. Thanks for bringing us here.

29-Nov-24
A group of caching friends are visiting from the mainland and enjoying the scenery while caching. The log was signed as team (viipers) who include cybergran V, SciFiRulz, Riddell, Ronice88, icybeetas and myself. Wow, that was steep, but worth it for the view. There was a sole sunbather on the beach and she probably wondered what we were up to climbing that steep slope

26-Oct-24
Well that was tricky, not sure we approached it the right way but got there in the end. Thanks for the adventure.

Caching with TeamAstro who says HI to the CO!!!!On a two week holiday on Norfolk Island stunning vistas everywhere I look, unfortunately the camera doesnt do it justice! This bay was another oh my gosh look at this!!! Stunning, stunning and really enjoyed the clambered up to the cache! Great view from the top. Hard to look for caches when the scenery is so stunningThank you richlink for placing this game piece here, showcasing this lovely area and contributing to this great game for myself and others to enjoy. #6079I was here back in 2019 but failed to find the cache then. As a result, I was keen to avenge this DNF (although I don't think I logged it as a DNF then. Oops!! My bad!!)And so the scramble began. What a slippery area this is. I was with a group of geo-mates and we all took a bit of a different route to GZ. Gatherer Hade pretty much led the way and it wasn't long before "Woof" was heard. This was our signal the cache had been found but left in situ so others could have that "Aha!!" moment. So pleased to be able to finally get a smiley on the map for this one.A Fave Point for the location and the scramble up the hill.

22-May-24
The views on the walk down to the beach were magnificent. What a beautiful spot! The beach is stunning, worth a Favourite Point. Right so there's a cache up there ..... somewhere, but which is the best place to attack the climb, and is there anything to hold onto to help pull you up or stop you falling down?We all chose different points of attack and began the scramble. I went up the grassy way. It was a bit longer but I felt less likely to slide and have you going back downwards. The final three or four metres involved a bush bash through some thick strappy plants but it was OK. Cache found! The view at GZ definitely is spectacular watching the waves roll in. Now for the descent. I picked a route and just walked straight down - easy. I arrived at the bottom and sat on a log with those from our group who couldn't make the climb while we waited (a long time) for the others to reach us. It was just beautiful watching the sun on the surf and the waves crash over the rocks. What a great spot!TFTC # 6028

#14412 16:50The third day of Geo Adventure 2024 with a group of 30+ geocachers visiting Norfolk Island. Roaming around the island for a few days, a smaller group decided to tackle sthe East coast of the island today.Quite a walk down, but easy on the boardwalk. Then it was up the red soil slope for the last few meters. Cache found. Back down it was more sliding than walking. Great spot and worth a FP.TFTC richlink

??????thanks ?? Woof Patrol ????with a wobbly knee I struggled in the very soft shelly sand but a huge log offered comfortable views up into the bush to monitor their bush bashing progress! ?????? (Chookie was great company as we shared travel tales!????)Views along the beach and out Cresswell Bay to the headlands where spectacular booming white surf plumes extended their misty edges up into the cliffs while the gentle slump and slap of the white wash played amongst the dark basalt rocks at my feet. Could have set up the swag ???and stayed the night! ?????SLTN LNTFTC ??????

#7568 NI Day 3After our breakfast event, harveyt2079 and I headed towards Kingston again to collect caches in the south eastern corner of the island. Having completed our targets in the south eastern corner, it was time to relocate to the south western corner. This is one of my most favourite caches on Norfolk Island so far. It reminded me so much of a cache found on Magnetic Island off the Queensland coast near Townsville. Absolutely spectacular views! Loved it!TFTC richlink

A few drops of rain which did happen on most days but that did not stop ADI and I from more finds. Down the board walk and the rain had picked up a bit. Found a spot on the beach and headed up closest to the shortest distance. The rock was soon sighted and the cache found. We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC

Great view. But of a steep climb.

21-Jan-24
This sure is slippery climb, no matter what your ability. There are no hand holds and the loose scoria and dirt is treacherous. At least the views are pretty good.

After Fruits of the Forest we went for this one. Followed the trach down to the beach, and then up left towards GZ. After having found the cache, also found an slightly easier way down.

Definitely easier going up than down! An easy find at the top but felt a little perilous on the decent. I should have worn more suitable clothing. Thank you richlink

T-Tech and I are visiting Norfolk Island for our 40th anniversary. We arrived from Brisbane and are staying for 2 weeks at Endeavour Lodge, and plan to get some R&R, see all of the sites, learn the history, and gather every cache here so we can claim the Se Dun Challenge Big GrinToday we had a leisurely start with a visit to the Show followed by a wander through town and a coffee at our favourite cafe. The plan for the rest of the day is to visit Bombora Beach, Crystal Pool, 100 Acre Wood, Headstone Point and St Barnabas Church, gathering caches along the way. It's quite a slog up to GZ! T-Tech arrived before me. TFTF, richlink.

My wife and I spent a wonderful week on the Island - the first time for me (but hopefully not the last) and the second for her. Such a delightful place! I took my GPSr, with the traditionals downloaded (I don't really make the time to do puzzles or multis) and figured I would find a few as we went around the place. I never had any intention of finding all 41 of them, but somewhere around day 5 I realised it was actually feasible.

In the end it was a close call - one quite tough-to-get-to cache (Bird Island) I had to visit twice after not reading the description before my first visit and discovering it is really a multi and then stuffing up the calculations so I had an almost blind search for the cache; another (St Barnabas) was out of its hidey hole so took three visits before I found it among some fallen leaves nearby). But I got there and managed to claim them all.

In the interests of saving the limited data on my phone, I only look placeholder drafts during the week and am completing them back home, a month later. So with all due apologies, they are going to be pretty generic for the most part. But I will add comments about those that I particularly remember. No matter how detailed the final logs, I want to say a big thanks to those who have placed the caches and those who continue to maintain them. I had great fun finding them and they really helped make sure I saw as much of the Island as possible. So - a big and sincere TFTC Smile

It took me a couple of days to get down here (despite staying in accommodation really close by) as everything I read suggested it was a pretty inaccessible location. I'm guessing the new boardwalk has been put in since those writings, as it turned out to be an easy place to get to - and a totally beautiful one. Exploring the rock pools at low tide here was gorgeous and the view past the surfers to the old settlement buildings is unique and very special. This was another easy find, but from memory one that took a bit of effort, making it extra special. Definitely a favourite point from me.

15-May-23
Quite a climb to this one it turned out. As I found my chosen ascent path, I headed up the hill while Mrs. Gunnie wandered along the beach, avoiding the many bluebottles that were dotted along the coast.

About half way up, I had turned left to get better traction and soon found myself about 1m from a nesting bird, who was clearly not keen on my proximity. Gotcha, I'll just be backing away slowly... Surprised

Back on the ascent, I approached GZ from the right side which I was grateful for, so on arrival the container was soon spotted and retrieved. Log out, name in, I tucked everything back and took a slightly different path down, so I did not interrupt the gestation process of my feathered friends. Big Grin

A good cardio workout and a nice view from the top.

Cheers richlink.

This was our last find on our day of exploring NI by geocaching. Another climb! Don’t know if my calf muscles can take it much longer. we know of course the caches have to be high so we get the best views. A favourite point for the views and for bringing us here to this beautiful location. TFTC

Scary scramble, sent the muggle husband up first. Easy to find with the hint. Amazing view from the top, tftc

04-Jan-23
A tricky one to get to for sure. Lots of paths to follow which was good as it made for a better way down.

Loved the beach. In the late afternoon, it reminded me of the Canadian TV show form the 80s called The Beachcombers.

Thanks for bringing us to this secured place.

Issac and his mate, Lukas helped me find this one. It was a real hike up here and we were joined by a wee jack Russell. Had a great sausage sizzle at the bbq area.

Very steep climb to get to this cache. Easier coming down than going up. Nice find and a nice big cache container and another one inside. Great views fro up here. Some guys were out surfing and got some great photos. TFTC. SL. Left a few swaps for the kids. Giving this one a fav because it was hard to get to, but worth it in the end. Cheers.Found this cache very late in the afternoon. Great spot.

The fresh batch of convicts had now been imprisoned on NI for in excess of 24 hrs. Plans to escape to New Zealand have failed, plans to escape to the high country provided the chance to survey other possible exit points from the Island. Captain Cook never returned to collect us at the NE landing point so the search is continuing.

Having replenished agricultural supplies I dropped down to the beach. From a high point overlooking the beach I was certain i could see Van Demons Land. Perhaps it would be better to serve out our remaining 6 days on NI than head that way.

Found this one right after it was replaced, picked up a TB! Tftc!

Time to head to Norfolk Island to celabrate our 70th birthdays. When we were here before we were not geocachers, this visit will be spent gathering geocaches and revisiting our favourite places. Our appologies for the generic logs it does not take away the enjoyment we have found in the fantastic places they have been placed and all the different styles of caches that we are enjoying,

Started to rain as we arrived at the car park, then got a spectacular rainbow as we arrived at the beach. Not our favourite tramping through native bushland, but the mud actually made it easier.

Third day on Norfolk
ANZAC Day, thinking most places would be shut
we spent the day running around the island looking for caches
But most of the locals appeared to be out enjoying the day off too
... as was the case here
beautiful spot, locals enjoying the surrounds, even a couple out surfing
decided not to draw attention to ourselves clambering up the slope
and just had a bite to eat whilst enjoying the scenery
maybe next time

After lunchtime, we've shed Mum and Oliver, and are leaner now.... and the rain is even lighter, we headed out to Ball Bay and Kingston, remembering to fire up the Adventure Lab app too this time, grabbing another 20 smilies for the afternoon, and another GA locationless.....
We came this morning for this, but it was really pouring - I'm now glad we moved on! Without rain, with the wet slope, I still went on my rear 4 times. Mainly as we went bush to the left at the top, rather than staying to the right, so missed the object, and were distracted by others in the canopy.... Another great spot here... .TFTC!

19-Apr-22
After dropping Mum and Oliver at home, Dad and I headed out to do some more caches around Ball Bay and Kingston. Had a nice time caching around the area. We came here earlier today but it was BUCKETING rain, so we came back later and walked down the boardwalk, then up the hill. It was very slippery, but once we got to GZ the find was easy.

Quite a climb from the beach, also!
Cache was guarded by a rather large spider. I had to approach in a round about way!

06-Mar-22
Nice facilities nearby for a picnic or bbq and loos too. And a lot of work’s been done with all the new plantings beside the boardwalk.
When it came time to leave the path, we donned our mountain goat legs and away we went. GPSr led us straight to GZ and we found the cache. Nice one. What a view!

Thank you.

Today was our first full day on NI with the weather overcast and only a few short showers. Due to the number of caches found, will do a generic log. Thank you to the CO's for placing these caches in the respective location. These caches brought us to many great views of this beautiful islands. TFTC

Spending the day caching around Norfolk Island between a few showers. We covered quite a bit of the island and traveled along many of the minor roads.
Thanks to the COs who have placed hides on the island as well as Endeavour3 who has many caches, as well as maintaining the caches of others.

04-Dec-21
Nice new road that was a dream to drive on and then the boardwalk to the beach. We opted for straight up from the beach... Nice views and a pretty beach.

Trip log: Norfolk Island... Not something we had been planning to do but with GreyHams noticing travel here was starting up again, a good deal on flights and that this would count as a new caching 'country' this was indeed a very tempting location to visit.

Puzzles were solved, our double vaccinations certificates ready to go. A last minute change in the entry requirements added our PCR tests... but we arrived.

We had a challenge to collect as many of the caches as we could in the 48 hours we would be on the Island... A caching trip, but one that guided us around into every hidden gem the Island had to offer. All its beauty, history, scenic and quirky... and moisture! Humidity that sucked the energy out of every pore as we sweated our way about, but it was awesome!

An event the first evening was fantastic to meet with endeavour3, a wealth of local knowledge and assistance... both caching and the local area. It was great to confirm details, amend as needed and with a few DNFs help us back on track.

An honourable mention to the cows, especially the one that licked all over the car, the feral chickens (but not the roosters that wake up far to early and noisily) and the very friendly waving people everywhere we went!

Thanks for your cache that helped guide us about, and can all the caches be found within 48 hours... I'm very pleased to say that yes we could!

03-Dec-21
Aquilus1 and myself were on a mission: Go to Norfolk Island and clear the place out in 48 hours! This we achieved as we arrived well prepared, having ground out the puzzles (some with assistance) so that we had coords for nearly all hides before leaving Australia.

Brain tickler test & vaccination certificates in hand, we were shocked on arrival that our Australian mobiles had no roaming coverage....NONE! But, thankfully it seems most accommodation not only comes with a car, but comes with a phone as well.

I swear we did at least 5 laps of the island, I knew my way around very well by the end. NI is such a beautiful place, I am coming back with the family in a month and I already know exactly where I will take them.

On our first day we hosted an event and thankfully the local legend cacher, endeavour3, graced us with his presence. Some sage advice on the trickiest of NI hides was gladly received Smile

And, it has to be said......OMG THE HUMIDITY!!! Canberra has none at all, it was a major shock to the system!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This one was a steep climb up and a very careful descent!

It was a lovely walk down to the beach with great views, a nice intro to the island. We soon found ourselves heading up hill and in the right spot. Great views from the top! Tftc. 15.07

With a group from New Zealand who have waited two years to do this trip. So pleased to be out and about seeing all the nooks and crannies of the Island. Oh and finding all the caches in such scenic beauty is an added bonus. Thanks to all the CO’s and Endeavour3 for looking after them.

Out exploring the south west coast of Norfolk Island on the first afternoon of our holiday. We drove down to Bumbora, and were very glad the road was dry today, or it would have been a steep and slippery walk to GZ. We all wandered along the new boardwalk and down to the beach, and then most of us followed the GPS up the ridgeline to the cache. Great view from up here, and interesting rock pools below. TFTC.

39th find on Norfolk. 6.30pm.

I definitely took the hard way up to this one from the beach. Took the path on the right -if you’re looking up at the incline from the beach. No one enjoying a late afternoon swim so there was no witnesses to me slipping and sliding up to GZ. When I got 10m within GZ, I saw the much easier route from the boardwalk.

TFTC!

What a lovely little walk to the beach. Even found a banana to pick! Definitely access this from the bottom of the boardwalk. Like someone else I made the descent via a gully. At the bottom near the beach was a nesting Tropicbird. It didn't worry about me at all! Love these close encounters with nature. Nice little quiet beach. Thanks for bringing us here.
