WA Big Trip Winter 2024. Day 13 - Elliston to Ceduna via Port Kenny, Streaky Bay and Smokey Bay. The day began after a very windy night with two coastal cliff drives. The Artwork was an added bonus along the way. I fell into a well laid trap to buy some extra food and made several side trips along well made unsealed dirt roads. In Streaky bay I looked around at the area we played a new years eve show back in 1983 or so. Once I was back on the main highway to Ceduna and Norseman, the caching slowed down as I have been this way several times before. I tried a great multi in Ceduna, but failed at the last hurdle on a gun before retiring for the evening. This was an out of the way roadside stop. I am glad someone knows where he is buried, so we can go and visit. Thanks for the cache MalanDi46705.10 TNLNVisited: World Traveling Gold GC A#6 & CITO A#139**Albida**

My 8th day of my trip heading to and around the Eyre Peninsular. Stayed at Wave Rock last night then headed back to the coast and arriving in Coulta for the night. This cache would be find number 10 of 35 for the day and find Number 169 in total for this trip away.
A Quick find while heading south to Coulta for the night.

Drove west. Found your cache
How'd you even find this spot!??
Poor Patrick. What a place to snuff it!
Another one we'd just drive past and never see without the little jar with a log book...
So what are we doing this week...
(Go west) Life is peaceful there.
(Go west) Lots of open air.
(Go west) To find caches new.
(Go west) This is what we'll do.
(Go west) Sun in winter time.
(Go west) We will do just fine.
(Go west) Where the skies are blue.
(Go west) This and more we'll do.

Country, Coffee, Cats, Champagne, Chocolate, and Caching...
Careful caching as always, wherever we go.
It's a dangerous world filled with rusty old mint tins and objects falling from trees
...... but a cache a day still keeps the boredom away
--------
Most of our caches are logged using the resources of gsak, garmin, and androids, occasionally AI too! (And a little rubber stamp )
----------
Make sure that Travel Bugs are the Only bugs you share and pass on (Covid cancels caching!)
Keep a safe distance - clean and cache the countryside
It's awesome of all those placing quality caches out and about around our country areas,
in sensible safe places and containers especially! - it keeps our game fun, and interesting
Of course we do appreciate if you actually did read all this extra addition to the log word count! There's a challenge somewhere out there, or so we've been told! You win a virtual smiley for the effort and getting to the end of the log Maybe if I worked out where it is I could do it and go back to normal logs again ! If you find the challenge let me know and perhaps we can put an end to these long logs !!!

The end. For now...

During our new years break, [@jesswrigley](http://coord.info/PRNW59T) and I headed to the Eyre Peninsula to travel around the various coastal towns. We started the trip with Jeep trouble, but then continued in our alternative vehicle without 4WD to stick to the main tourist roads where possible. We travelled south-west to Tumby Bay and Port Lincoln via Whyalla, Cowell, Cleve, Arno Bay; west across to Coffin Bay; and then north-west to Streaky Bay and Ceduna via Elliston, and Venus Bay. We then headed back east staying in Kimba via Poochera, Wudinna, Lock, and Darke Peak.
Today, [@jesswrigley](http://coord.info/PRNW59T) and I continued our adventure from Talia to Streaky Bay. We made a stop at Venus Bay, and decided to leave the boating island/peninsula caches for another visit, to continue on to Murphys Haystacks. We then drove through Calca to Point Labatt to see the sea lions and seals, and then drove north via Sceale Bay. Finally, we spent part of the afternoon driving the Cape Bauer loop road visiting Whistling Rocks, which was a unique highlight!
This appeared to be a random location, that I wasn't sure whether I was allowed to walk over the fence. However, it soon became apparent to me of the lonely grave that came into view, that was unmarked from the road. It is a shame that there isn't any signpost to it, but glad that geocaching pointed this out to me. An interesting history too. It took a few minutes to locate this cache, and the cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks MalanDi for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.
Note that this geocache was logged with the *Team Warren* Davidwazza/jesswrigley stamp.

After staying overnight in Venus Bay, our destination for the day was Ceduna. However we first went a little south back towards Elliston as we had to bypass some caches late yesterday afternoon as we ran out of time.
This was the first cache to the south. After parking the car on the side of the road, we found our way through the fence and were soon at GZ. It was an interesting site for an old grave. Accurate coordinates led to a quick find. The cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks MalanDi for the cache.

Found during a tour of the Gawler Ranges and Eyre Peninsula for the week, on a route that saw us traveling to Kimba, Streaky Bay, Tumby Bay, Cleve and Whyalla and camping out near Secret Rocks, Kolay Hut (Gawler Ranges), Pildappa Rock, Port Kenny and Yeldulknie Weir (Cleve), all the while finding caches along the way. Thanks for the cache MalanDi!
Heading from Ceduna to Port Lincoln, I grabbed a number of caches along the way to break my journey. A nice quick find in a place I would not have known about otherwise. By the way, the cache is now a glass jar. I kept driving down the road to check out the beach.
My thanks to MalanDi for the cache.

Part of our great Eyre peninsula short stay. We really focussed our caching in the Elliston Region and reall enjoyed the locations the caches took us too,
We hopped fences, crossed roads, climbed tree's and hopped around like gooses, we collected many smilies while on this trip
Geocaching has given us many pleasures and this cache was one of them. Thanks to each and every team for placing caches for us to find during our short visit.

Hi there MalanDi.
We found your cache **"Find and Sign Patrick Reidy"** at 1:47:00 PM today. (This makes our find count 15687).
We thoroughly enjoyed our trip from Venus Bay to Elliston today. We moved the caravan to Elliston, & then back tracked to find this cache.. On our trip we found a wide variety of container types amongst our 5 caches (& 0 DNF's) today. Thanks for placing this cache here, without geocaching as our guide we would never have found so many interesting places on our travels.
**Coordinate Accuracy:** We found the cache around 2m from where the GPS said we should be looking.
**Cache Condition:** The container and log book are in good shape.
**Took:** Nothing.
**Left:** A Smiley Badge.
Thanks for the hunt today,
Regards
Ian & Penny.

Travelling on the Eyre Peninsula, and having a great time, we found this cache. It took me quite some time to find this fellow, and I reckon I looked there several times, but eventually I had success. Thanks for bringing me to this special place.
Found cache - lonely place for Patrick - interesting where caching takes one - pen not writing, so left another that was working on the day. Many thanks for this great cache.
With work is taking us to Ororoo, Tumby Bay, Streaky Bay and Wudinna over 4 days we take every moment to grab caches along the way, earthlight joined us for the trip and a lot of fun was had during the trip, day 3 of our trip and today we are suppose to be doing work at Ceduna but since the rain has not stopped and they are expecting 50 mm so now our job will be tomorrow so this has given us the whole day to cache this area now, as we go through and find these Find and Sign caches we were taken to some really interesting locations such as graves in the middle of nowhere, where did you find these in the first place ? very interesting doing these as we visited this town and surrounding area. TFTC
Found on a very wet day. Caching with3LG. Cemetery cache hides are 1 Of my favourite places as you can learn so much about the history of the area. Was lucky enough to locate a pathtag. TFTC
Day Fifteen of the WA road trip with BettyBoo3747. Today we drove up to Venus Bay and popped in at the caches along the coast between there and Elliston.
We seemed to be stopping in the middle of nowhere! We jumped the fence and started walking, and then we saw it - how did you find this?
Thanks, Robmc.

# 7843. Robmc and I are still staying at Elliston but with the weather improving today we are off to visit Venus Bay and find a few caches along the way.
I am enjoying these Find and Sign caches - so interesting and I wonder how you have chanced upon some of these spots. This one is another that pushes the right buttons for me as I love caches that are historical and unexpectedly interesting. Poor Patrick - it would certainly be good to know more about him. I like visiting old cemeteries and old grave sites. I left one of my new Phryne - Rose Pathtags here. Favourite point given too.
Thanks MalanDi

Would never have stumbled across poor Patrick if not for Geocaching. Took a marble and left a 1944 penny. Thought it appropriate . Done with Sujuhaje. TFTC
The mystery of Patrick. Took the puzzle to see if we can solve the mystery. Left the whistle to call for help.

Another scenic detour off the black top was taking me to the coast
And after a sharp corner and drive over a crest, I noticed GZ slipping past me to port.
I abandoned ship and headed back up the hill on foot
But why was I headed here, there was nothing to see [:o]
I climbed through a fence and headed off in to the scrub ...
... ooh !! Well I didn't expect that
A lonely spot with few visitors except for geocachers [^]

We are now into Day 11 of our Oz Mega 2014 Event trip. We have been clocking up lots of kilometres and lots of caches (not able to log them until I get home, and can see it is going to be a mammoth job when I do get around to it - oh well, the price of having so much fun now!!)
Didn't have too much trouble tracking down Patrick while we were passing through. Thanks for showing us this little bit of history MalanDi

On the road again, using caching to guide us to the sites as we explore the state on our way to the Murray bridge mega. Graves abound, we are certainly getting to see some on our run today, very interesting and love the glimpse into the past with the cache info. Tftc
Found on a wet and miserable day. We went down to the tub and the woolshed for a visit. It was a good day to finish a great trip. We found this one destroyed but luckily we had a jar in the car. All the contents are now safe.

Fantastic cache. Hidden near a grave that you wouldnt have known it was there. Interesting note it was also located on my late grandfathers property. Was on a family holiday visiting old childhood memories and this area was one of them Please note the container has perished so could the next person take something to replace it. We didnt have anything to use.

Found during our boys fishing trip on the west coast. With the swell up and fishing too difficult, what better way to pass the time than to grab a few caches. Our first "Find and Sign" cache for the trip and one of those "who knew this was here" moment. TFTC and history.
Here from Canada, doing a bit of caching as we explore Australia....

Interesting, and a bit sad. Poor Patrick. Found with skye pilot, ink in pen running out but didn't have anything to replace it with. skye pilot left behind the clog (fossilized tree root).
Found this one with El Josho on a scorching morning. Thanks for bringing us here. I'm glad that Patrick's grave has some visitors - such a lonely place otherwise.
Another place that one would never find without geocaching. Lovely spot, thanks MalanDi!
a Lonely place to die, I couldn't find the well mentioned. Thanks for the cache or we would have just driven past.
We have been past this site so many times but didnt know this grave site was here , it was very interesting thankyou ftc

Thanx for bringing us here, MalanDi. Very interesting story. At least someone gets to visit the grave...
