Logs
Did the Organ Pipes circuit this arvo & found a few caches along the way. Took around 5 minutes then had a look at previous log and helped find it. TFTC
Found this cache with moisiemo after searching a few times. Good to finally find it! Thanks for the cache!
4th time looking today! Armed with some intelligence from a previous finder, plus the help of my two sons, had the cache in hand fairly quickly this time. What a cryptic hide! No wonder I had so much difficulty before All good at GZ, apart from the pen having given up the ghost.TFTC
It seems only fitting that my first crack at this one wasn't successful.I spent a good while here, but still had a lot of ground to cover, so when the log reading began and understanding grew impatience set in and then like a seed taking root, I was up and outta there.one day I'll come back and do it all again for fun.
0 from 2 so far! To be fair, we didnt look for too long as were deterred by the amount of previous DNFs and other found logs due to inside knowledge.
Yet another look today, with two other pairs of eyes with me this time. I think I definitely need to get some intel! I'll be back
Well, at least an hour spent fruitlessly looking for this one I put my hand and arm into every gap in the rocks I could find, and after reading some of the previous logs saying you just needed to lift one rock, I lifted every rock that I could within a radius of about 3m from GZ.
Reading through more logs subsequently, it is very obvious that this one is very hard to find! And that the vast majority have only found it by getting intel from previous finders. So perhaps this is the only way I will get it!
From my efforts today, I can come to a few possible conclusions:
- my arms aren't long enough
- the cache has disappeared down one of the holes, out of reach
- or, most likely, the coordinates are not correct. This would seem to be the case from reading through the logs way back.
So! I think I need to get intel to see how far out the coordinates are from the GZ as it stands, and in which direction.
TFTC nonetheless, and I will be back!

Armed with a little inside knowledge after two previous DNF's here, we eventually found this one! It was a good feeling when the cache revealed itself! TFTC!

Terrible hint 2 people spending about half an hour turned up nothing but rocks
Could the hint be any more obscure? Unfortunately another DNF for today after a long search
Yes! Found it this time.
After attending the ANZAC Dawn Service, I'd returned home and watched on the TV, various marches and services, including the Service from ANZAC Cove.
Eventually I needed to get off my bum and get out for some more fresh air.
KingSmev drove on his Ls and it wasn't too long before we parked at Shoebridge Bend and wandered up the track.
Thanks to stainless-steel-rat and gooseandegg for finding the cache after 4 years and a few DNFs - I was hoping to avenge my previous DNF.
With an extra set of eyes, we set about searching, but after 15 minutes or so we resorted to checking some intel I'd gleaned from previous finders, narrowed down the search area, looked from the right angle, moved one rock, and voila, there it was. Well, not really sure how I missed that 2 months ago, but I did, and it happens!
Very pleased to turn my blue frown into a happy yellow smiley here today.
Thanks pjamesk for the cache, and for bringing me here.
Thanks Tas_Community for looking after this one.
Thanks to my geoMates for the intel.
Thanks KingSmev for the company today.
Always nice to stretch the legs on kunanyi, cache or no cache, and enjoy the bush and the intermittent views down to the city and the river.
Cheers, EPs.

Back on 4 February, this one was a DNF for me.
At a recent event on 22022022 at 17:00 i was informed it was still there as it was found so today, 23 Feb 2022, i just couldn't resist going for it again straight away. A 28oC forecast day was the ticket for a cool environment as this.
When at GZ i was armed with a spoiler pic but even with that i still was looking for matching trees and rocks for well over 20 minutes.
I was all at sea being more than 5 or so metres from the track, even up to 30m up the hill [:o]
It's waaaay closer to the track as the accurate co-ords kept telling me... i only wandered coz it couldn't be found there. I sat myself down and just looked hard for the rock shape and tree behind it. I was fossicking around a spot and then noticed something a wee bit sus and there was the most elusive booty. ''Yes! Got it!!'' i was chuffed-as bro
{Many thanks to the previous finder(s) whom made this easier to locate by removing the years of build up on the container}.
Signed the log at 13:12 and replaced as found. The logbook is dry, the cache & contents are in great condition

This cache was why we were walking on the mountain today, with the last find being WW and TT back in 2018 it has since then collected a good number of DNFs and a couple of write notes from some very esteemed members of the caching community who's combined finds total around 40,000 finds, I think the Archie and Diadem DNFs back from 2019 planted the seed that the cache wasn't there when in fact Archies log also says the real reason **"our eyes are painted on.**"
Myself and goose had also fell into the trap of thinking it was missing so we had some spares with us just in case so we could fix this up for the Tas_Community but we wanted to give it a fair go and didn't want to replace a cache that wasn't in fact missing we used some intel from past finders and our geosenses to find the original cache, it wasn't easy and I almost gave up a number of times but after 30 minutes searching myself and goose somehow zeroed in on the same spot as a good looking candidate (TBH there wasn't many left) and after some clearing of leaf litter I could see the side of the cache, the sistema latch was in fact faded so hadn't been covered all those 4 years, anyway it was with great pleasure that I pulled the container out from its concealment and find that it was in perfect condition.
I enjoyed reading the list of illustrious cachers that had managed to find this cache over the many years before I added my own, after a couple of pictures to celebrate and have on file to help the less fortunate in the caching community find this cache, the cache was at last replaced with a little less leaf litter and should now be an easy find.
After having a few weeks of being a trio of cachers it was back to just Goose and myself, Budgie ditched us in favor of his family So we went and found some caches he had already found and did some of the maintenance for the Tas_Community account as we had a few old caches that need a bit of love.
Thanks for the caches.

Thanks for cache pjamesk and Tas_Community,
The opportunity presented itself tonight for a mountain stroll in between dropping off, and collecting, some Venturer Scouts.
A beautiful evening, with plenty of light for searching for 50 minutes, and also using a torch for prying hopefully into cavities and grottos.
But, like many before me, no luck.
Only DNFs in the past 4 years, aside from the CO confirming it was still there in 2019.
Oh well, thanks for the reason to get out and about.
Cheers, EPs.

Copy the log of The Hancock Clan... i was not successful either after about 30 mins or so. My search was wide and methodical too, even resorted to moving leaf matter and sticks out of 'under rocks'
This will be a rewarding and satisfying hide for the next cacher that does find it
As i was leaving heading towards the Egyptian Monolith hide i noticed a large-ish tree on the right side of the path had grown through rocks some 25m from where my GPS wanted me, i got excited seeing the title name may have meant these two 'hard things' but my hopes fell after about 10 minutes. Not dejected about the DNF at all, just more determined to be the one that finds it now ha ha
{Admittedly [8)] i love being the cacher that finds a cache after a string of DNF's and a long time since it was found, but today it wasn't to be} that doesn't mean it's not there
Thanks for the challenge anyways and for showing me another fantastic spot with great views, pjamesk and Tas_Community

Another failed attempt. This time we spent well over an hour methodically searching every hidey hole within a good 20+ metres radius of GZ. With an unhelpful clue and the very many DNFs since the last find almost four years ago, I guess it was to be expected. We'll keep our eye on this one to see if someone else finds it before we return for another attempt...
Another day, another look.
As i had a deadline, I only looked for 10 minutes before moving on.
As i had a deadline, I only looked for 10 minutes before moving on.
Had a fairly thorough look without success but the walk there and back was very scenic and enjoyable!
Only had time for a quick search as we were with muggle friends who weren't that interested in geocaching. No time for a thorough search so had to call it quits after a few minutes
The geocache is still there.
given it is at the top of a boulder field under a rock, it takes patients to find it. it even took ma a while to find it again.

###Cache Owner Action Needed###
This cache has been brought to my attention as likely to be missing.
After a string of successful Finds, it has now had a string of DNFs. I agree that this certainly suggests that something has happened at the cache location which requires investigation by the CO.
I am going to Disable it, and I'll check back in 4 weeks to see if either
- the CO has checked or rectified the apparent problem
- the CO has communicated when action will be taken
If the CO has not taken either of these actions, then regretably the cache will be archived.
The Geocaching Community needs to have a degree of certainty that a cache is out there to be found, and the CO has a responsibility to maintain their caches.
Thank you

While I can see the sentiment behind the disable, the ‘string of recent DNFs’ is actually just two cachers.
I remember it took me five attempts, and if you look back through the logs, they’re about 1/3 DNF.
With that history, two cachers failing to find it seems a low bar for disabling.

Thrice now TaurusSix and I have looked for this cache. We spent about half and hour on the way in to other geocaches, and another hour while returning back to the car.
We have both separately looked under every rock we could imagine a cache could be under. I tried thinking it was closer to the track and went up to 30m in each direction and searched both sides of the track. TaurusSix focused on where the GPSr indicated GZ to be. On the way back I covered all the ground near the track again and also focused on GZ +- 10m.
I doubt I will be here again until evidence of the cache still being there is logged.

TaurusSix and I looked and looked and looked. I cannot imagine a rock I did not look under. TaurusSix asked what the hint was, "I hope it's not ..." - words for word, and quite useless. We walked away empty handed.
Today we decided to tackle a few caches with whitewebbs from near the top of Mount Wellington down to the Cascade Garden. Mrs Whitewebbs dropped us off at the top car park and off we headed down the mountain.
This was a long day starting from 10 am and finishing at 4:30 pm. All the caches we found we in excellent condition and well hidden. This was a new area for us to visit with great views of the Derwent River, when the fog lifted, and seeing many pushbike and bushwalking muggles.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.

Mr W and Mr T from Tassie Trekkers had earmarked this area for a walk to locate quite a few caches that have remained unfound for far too long. Mrs W and Mrs T dropped them off at the chalet and they headed off in thick fog to re-emerge in Cascade Gardens at 4.30 pm covering approximately 14 kms. A relatively easy find considering GZ. They thoroughly enjoyed the walk and all caches targeted were found and the log books signed. TFTC
What a great day for geocaching. Clear blue sky, light breeze, a great day for a walk in the mountains. Clearly the day for us to clean up another section of the caches in this area. Approached this one with trepidation given so many previous DNFs. Certainly GPS was of little use as its GZ gave us nothing. Thinking we would join the group of "fails" widened our search area and eventually came up with the cache. GPS not really happy here and geo-searching is required.

So I went for a walk today and I had probably the third "good" look for this cache. Plus many 5-minute looks.
I had previously looked last summer/autumn but at that time the last find was 2015. I had another good look after a recent DNF from someone else in June then again in November(ish). Not to be discouraged by other DNF's I went past this again today and decided to have another good look after a recent find confirming it was there to be found.
So I looked and looked. And looked. Looked some more. But it has escaped me again!
I will come back again and look some more.

This cache was on a trail I had planned to walk along with the GeoGSP this afternoon so I read all the logs trying to get some hints given that it has a 25% DNF rate. Pretty much once my GPSr got me to within about 10-12m of GZ I just put the GPSr down and tried to use my instinct, and it appears I fluked it. Pretty much the second place I looked - I'm usually hopeless with ones that have recent DNF's but I just put the black hat away and voila! Thanks for the cache pjamesk - truly great views from this spot today.
Bit of a bummer that is don't find it.this time but I will try again soon. The clue I feel could be a bit better. Dosnt matter though because I had a nice walk and nice view.
After a good 15 minutes of my frozen hands searching in places that revealed all sorts of nasties instead of the cache I gave up. Will come back another time. For now... off to find some more.
on this beautifully warm spring day, with the kids at school we decided to come out and do some caches. This one took us quite a while to find. The egg even stood on the rock hiding it and still didn't notice it. Shortly after, from a different angle, she did see it. she struggles to get it out but got there in the end. After signing the log we heard voices so put the cache out of view as the walkers passed. We had a quick chat as they headed toward the springs. With the coast clear we replaced the cache making sure it wouldn't be crushed by the same rock! TFTC
The GPS suggested up the scree a few metres but we thought that it would more likely be closer to the track. After a bit of searching the right rock, or more correctly the wrong rock was spotted. TFTC pjamesk
On a fine sunny day we decided that a circuit walk starting from the Springs and going via Hunters and Organ Pipes tracks would be ideal. There were a few caches that would be encountered along the way, although one of those we discovered was actually a bit of a back track along the north south track; so was given a miss.
One of first was a quite close moveable and part of a geocache game which we though could be redeposited near the Chalet when we got that far; however when we discovered how big and awkward it was the cache was it was quickly whisked back to the car.

I chose a harder way of accessing this cache than suggested in the description by starting from the end of Lenah Valley Road. I did think the clue was a bit useless, but I found the cache in about the third place that I looked.
Walked the Organ Pipe circuit this afternoon, nice easy walk, lots of caches. Started at the chalet and went down to "The Survival Kit Cache" first grabbing a few caches on my way to the springs, topped up the water bottle, then up the Pinnacle track, onto the the Organ Pipes track back to the chalet. Took a bit longer than expected due to all the caches. All caches I found were in very good condition. Cache container at Spinx Rock has got a couple of holes chewed in it by rats but is still fairly dry and contents intact. Thanks for all the great caches.
I was going to try and do this cache last night but after a DNF trying to find another a WP for another puzzle cache I decided to walk straight past and go home.
This morning after eventually finding the elusive WP and reading the other logs I decided I would search for 30m then give up.
I took my pack and gear off making it easier for a good search. The first place I looked I found it.
It took longer to put my pack and other gear off and on than it did to find and log the cache.

YEAAAH! C'MON! *fist pump/lawnmower start*
After four (4) failed attempts to find this cache, I emailed pjamesk asking to clarify a couple of points, which he did, as well as providing me with a hint of sorts (which, in the end, proved about as useful as the published one ).
So today I took advantage of the beautiful weather for a brisk walk along the Shoobridge Track to GZ, where I commenced my search.
After about 15 minutes, I was getting that familiar feeling of despair, when I suddenly looked in the right place for the first time, and there it was!
As I was sitting on a rock signing, the only other people I saw all day appeared out of nowhere, but I suspect they thought it was my lunch, and they wouldn;t have seen the hide, anyway.
Now for the postmortem: why didn't I find it before? I completely overthought it. I tried "where would I hide a cache" technique, and then looked in those places over and over again. I tried reading logs, inferring things from them, and then looking in THOSE places over and over again. If I'd just done a general search of the area my GPSr was pointing to (plus a few metres), I probably would have found it first time.
Thanks, pjamesk, and to steal someone's quote: nemesis, be gone!

Attempt #4: another 30 minute search. I am, perhaps, destined never to find this one.
Enjoyed a beautiful walk to Junction Cabin and road tested the IPad to locate Between a Rock and a Hard Place. TFTC
A second find on our loop walk of some Mt Wellington tracks. It took some time for our GPS to settle down and when it did, it had us looking too high up the slope. It took us about 30 minutes before we eventually stumbled across the cache. The area has so many possible hiding spots - systemmatic seraching is essential to success. TFTC pjamesk
Hi Pjamesk
Had just been to "Babble" and was on my way to WP1 in "Bark, Rocks, Logs and Sticks - Finale" and got this one on the way.
Didn't take long to find it. Then I looked at the clue and laughed my head off when it said "Under a rock." How many of them were there to look under? Hundreds!
Found and signed the log at 1130hrs.
Was about to replace the log and then heard voices. But they were coming from above; not from along the track; so my anxiety was not well founded.
Enjoyed getting to this one. Went in from the Springs, a walk that I enjoy every time I do it.
After replacement, it was onto the above mentioned Waypoint.
Thanks for another good cache
Cheers
OldSaint.

Found fairly quickly. No doubt practicing by finding "Boulder Field' just before helped. TNLN Many thanks.
Even Little Cyclist's eyes couldn't help me, though she did have a suggestion just as we were leaving that may turn out to be correct when I *eventually* find it!
Arrived. Looked. Waited for GPSr to settle. Looked some more. Looked at hint. Rolled eyes. Muttered "But which one?" loud enough for Gorilla Salad to hear. She laughed ... mostly sympathetically. Two seconds later: "Oh. That one." Still had the hard place to deal with, but managed. Great views. Thanks pjamesk ... for the cache anyway, if not the hint!
Knowing how good reborn cyclist is at finding caches I approached this cache thinking I had little chance. It was only just of the route I was taking to other caches in the area. Anyway thought it was worth a look. Found a perfect hiding spot and no cache. Before leaving thought I would try another approach and then I could see the cache from a couple a meters away. A bit of movement to a place where I could retrieve the Cache and it was in hand. Tftc
Bzzzzt.
Failed again.
20 minutes search, but obviously not in the right places!

Having found Boulder Field last week, my Wednesday wanderings this week led me to seek this one. This time the GPSr was having a Terpsichorean frenzy and just would not settle. Left on a rock at 2 metres to what it told me was GZ it promptly changed to 8 metres, 18 metres and then 4 metres. You were right, pjamesk, it is in "... a hard place". The hint, as for Boulder Field, was helpful, ... not. After twenty minutes scouring the area, however, I was triumphantly holding the prize. TNLNSL. TFTC.
20 minutes searching, and no find.
For a lot of that, I was in one small area, and the GPSr was reading less than 1m (often 0.0).
From several others' comments about widening their search, it may well prove that I needed to look elsewhere....

Wow we must of spent 20 minutes searching for this one, extremely useful hint
No Luck, and we had a big day ahead of us, so we had to give up!

Found after walking to the Pinnacle from Lenah Valley via Lenah Valley Track, Old Hobartian Track, Organ Pipes Track and finally the Zig Zag Track, and back down via the Zig Zag Track, Sawmill Track, and Lenah Valley Track.. A brilliant day on the hill. TNLNSL.
Somehow while heading for this cache I took a wrong turn and ended up in Silent Hill. Got to GZ and spent 30 mins searching with poor gps reception, phoned a friend without success and just as I gave up I literally fell on it. under a rock? Sheesh. Took nothing left nothing thanks for the cache PjamesK
No shortage of hiding places. I checked quite a few and thought I had foundc one that must have been it. As TBT have found it recently I guess I just didn't look in the one place it is. Thanks for the visit.
We must having been wearing our lucky socks because younger TBTers found it straight away
Nice walk although very busy by afternoon, took spider and ball left Rhino.
Thanks!

Failed to find, clue was not much use and I decided not to widen my search so left it for another day.
cheers, nice walk here though.

Found this on our way to the lookout, good hiding place found it after a little bit of searching. TFTC
Hmmm, what a very useful hint. Other similarly useful hints could be, 'There are trees nearby', 'The Derwent River is visible from the cache' and 'Part of the cache is touching the ground'.
After 20 mins of searching every crevice near where the GPS was pointing me, I decided to widen my search and came across the cache relatively quickly. Thanks.

Toyed with the idea of going overland from Boulder field to this one. T was keen – it’s only 300m - but DD prevailed and we made the trek around instead! Read previous logs, so were not at all surprised by the nature of the area – or by the fact that we couldn’t find the cache and that the hint was, to quote a previous log, ‘amazingly accurate, but unhelpful’ !!! Gps couldn’t quite make up its mind and our other gps was in the car with flat batteries (yes, of course we brought spares, but they only lasted about a minute before also dying – could it be the 2004 use by date?? Won’t mention that we got home and discovered we had been carrying spare batteries around with our torch . . .) It was starting to look like this would not be number 7 for the day when T stumbled across it!! T stickers (as there were frogs on them!!), Crane2’s Aussie geocoin and Tristens Fun 2 TB (unfortunately Goofy seems to have lost his head!) L frog photo magnet
Called by to pick up temp tb
droped off Tristens fun and crane2s Aussie Platypus gc

Would the next finders of this cache check and see if my granddaughters travel bug is still there? She is in a race with her cousin and she has over 32,000 miles but he is closing in fast. Thanks.
Hardest find for the day, and after Boulder Fields we were cursing all those damn rocks and pjamesk's helpful clues LOL.
Had some helpful muggles stop to give us directions, I suppose we were looking pretty confussed by this point!
Thanks for another highly challenging cache pjamesk.

arrgh! another pjamesk cache in a boulder field!
would have gone crazy finding this one if it wasn't for the fact I had to pull myself together every time muggles went past.
"Your next to the Lenah Valley track if you need to know where you are"
"Yep we're right thanks...know my position to +/-5m..."

A cool night and first time wearing a beany, this year, and didn't need to remove it. Great temperature for a walk on the lower reaches of the Mountain and memorable night views of Hobart.
Thanks Pjamesk, very enjoyable

I always love walking on Mt Wellington, so as far as I'm concerned there could never be enough caches there.
Even when its dark, drizzly and the weather above isn't brilliant it's often pleasant on these lowish tracks as long as you are wearing the right clothes and you have your bodyguards with you (thanks gspblu and rebulus ).
Thanks pjamesk for another cache... keep em' coming they're great!

As Red tag said caching on the mountain is always good.
Looking in the dark for a rock amongst thousands and gps not behaving seemed impossible but Rebulus made the discovery.
Great company and an enjoyable walk.
Thanks Pjamesk

It was a great day for a mountain walk. Like Snuva, our GPSr wanted to lead us up further than was necessary. The clue was extremely accurate, but a little unhelpful.
Took coin, left Temp TB
Thanks pjamesk

Scott hadn't been for a bushwalk with Lottie and I for ages, so decided to head for this one. Lovely walk, as per usual for the area! I had GZ a bit further off the track, so I must admit I was about ready to konk the pajama guy on the head with his hint, but then I found it and all was well with the world.
Stopped off to enjoy a nice warm cup of tea from the view spot near Egypitian Monolith, and there was an interesting group of mainlanders! They'd carried Eskis and boxes full of food, dinnerware (not a paper plate or cup to be seen!), and a camp stove and enjoyed a cheese course and soup course while we sipped our tea. I wonder how many more courses they were having - especially as the spot was in the wind and rather cold; the temperature dropped significantly as soon as you got back to the shelter of the track!
Thank you for the cache.

Continued on along from Boulder Field to Junction Cabin and back along the Lenah Valley Track. Found the cache then continued on to re-collect my bike where I left it on the North South track. Just to confirm my "dud rider" status, about 2 metres after getting on, dodged a rock, missed a turn and fell off!!! Luckily I had a very soft ferny landing but was nearly upside down and it was quite a trick to get back up!!! Thanks for the fun afternoon pjamesk. Will have to get my gear sorted out and have another go on the North South track!!! Terrific to have these caches as extra incentive to get out there!!! Thanks again.
Started walking from The Springs. We were just after a little light exercise so this is a really good easy track for that and with perfect late afternoon weather too.
This is one of those places where there are about a thousand possible hiding spots within the field of resolution of the GPSr. Anyway, found it witin about 5 minutes.
Took TB. Thanks for the cache.

How could a cache sit for so long without anyone trying to find it?
I decided that this morning I would go and look.
And I did. And I found it. And I had a TB and Coin party near GZ!
I am logging lots of TBs and coins throught this cache including Adrian Mc's Spring Chick geocoin.
Took a TB and the FTF badge, left a TB and a coin. Sorry redtaggspblu, I prefer to do mountain caches in daylight.
Thanks pjamesk.
