Down in Christchurch with the Squirrel, ABCDF4 and eyespyben. During Covid lockdown, we solved a load of puzzles and decided that this would be a good time to visit. We've enjoyed a few days of good weather and seeing the Canterbury countryside. The caches have been in varying states - some good, some not so much. Our time here has been a blast, and we'd like to thank all COs who have made this adventure possible. Thank you and TFTC.

02-Oct-20
With ABCDF4, eyespyben, and Gap (of Fap and Gap). Logging all finds as Team HRP (Huntly, Rotorua, Papamoa - Our hometowns)... During Covid-19 lockdown, we solved a truck load of puzzles around Christchurch - Canterbury region. No use thrashing the old grey matter for no cause - We decided we should make good on this handiwork...

There are lots of interesting trails and geoart surrounding Christchurch. What you aren’t told is how far flung some of these caches actually are. Some beforehand advice would have been great, so here are some of my notes... You’re welcome!

1. Mobile coverage is patchy, especially in those quiet, rural areas where it was most needed. Saving caches to offline might show that you are prepared and organised...
2. There are many dusty metal roads on the trails. The car will get messy, and your hair will feel like cardboard at the end of the day...
3. Suitable clothing and footwear are essential. You will climb in and out of hedges, gorse, and other rough stuff. You might get scratched, cut to shreds, and bleed a lot. It’s not advised to wear your brand new jacket on the day...
4. Take lots of food and drink. You’ll probably be head down, tail up and not realise you haven’t eaten until late afternoon. There are very few shops or gas stations out there...
5. Make sure that you secure keys and wallet and know where these are placed for easy retrieval. A full box of pens might be useful too, especially if you’re inclined to free some into the wild...
6. Know the difference between left and right, and north, south, east, and west. Turning right and heading north will not get you to South Christchurch quickly.
7. Look with girl’s eyes rather than boys eyes... Some caches haven’t been found in a while and you might have to get down on your knees to pray.
8. Always be prepared for misleading hints. This is what turns simple caches into D5/T5 hides... “Head height” could mean the cache is positioned at your toes.
9. Have a sense of humour and like the people you go caching with. It’s going to be a very long day, and you might want to hurt someone during the journey...
10. Make sure you can operate your phone/device and it doesn’t crash when you most need it...
11. Learn to cut and paste logs because you’re going to repeat this function so often when logging all of your finds.
12. Above all else, have fun and be kind...

We have another one of those punishing plans to cache until we drop - An early morning start with the hope that we'll finish at a reasonable time... From South Christchurch, we took Highway 1 and crossed the Waimakariri River into Northern Christchurch... Nice and quiet around ground zone, and a quick find. From memory, the logbook was difficult to extract, and the little pencil didn't help. Thanks Hello Mrs and TFTC.

After puzzle solving in the Canterbury region along with ABCDF4 we were invited to join Fap (from Fap & Gap) and Squirrel Nutcase to a week long caching adventure in the Canterbury area. With flights and accommodation booked were off, all met up in ChCh. and many hard dusty Kms travelled and many caches found, I think the Squirrel has said it all in his brief. Many thanks for the placements and Cos for bringin us to the very pleasant areas we travelled in to your region

Very easy to find with the hint. We have just replaced the book

11-Jul-20
The cache had been muggled. The container was open, full of water from the recent rain, and the new log book soaked. We dried it off as best we could, closed the cache container and rehid it according to the hint. But it could do with a bit of maintenance to dry out the logbook. TFTC!

Found the original container, logbook/paper was worse for wear , have upgraded container and logbook still in original location.

Cache found upside down in the open about 3m from gz. Contains only a smelly toes log. I forgot to bring log paper so recommend next finder puts a waterproof log in there. ST obviously craved attention. Left phone number and asked to have it mentioned on FB. Good grief.

Located 21 caches in the Swannanoa – West Eyreton area this afternoon, but this wasn’t one of them. Found the trees mentioned in the hint and eventually the rock. However no cache to be found anywhere. Either I’m blind or it’s not there! Enjoyed the company of a fantail which landed little more than an arm’s length away.

29-Dec-18
Caching adventure on hot day. Thanks for the hide. No log as been muggles by smelly toes.

22-Dec-18
An interesting find here. First the gate was locked. No problems, jumped over that. Then I found the cache and a note inside stating it had been muggled by ‘smelly toes’, and to post it on Facebook. Ok, so the cache is fine. There is no log sheet/book, but smelly toes’ note is now the log so I scribbled on that. Sorry, my replacement logsheets were in the car. It lives, but needs a new log. TFTC Hello Mrs.

First day of a few in Christchurch, so I targeted a few caches in Amberley and some close to my base off Tram Rd as well. Then the weather packed in. TFTC to all COs.

Hoping to see you at the [Oamaru Geofest](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC6M2V0_oamaru-geofest-2017) during Labour Weekend 21-22 October 2017. Let's all help this a successful event!

Did you know that planning has started for a Mega Event in Wellington in 2018? Check out the details on the [Wellington Event NZ (WENZ) Website](https://sites.google.com/site/wenzgeo2018/home) or visit the event's page on [FaceBook](https://www.facebook.com/groups/590545297801072/)

Thanks to the Cache Owner who has gone to the trouble of creating this cache, determining the coordinates and then averaging them to make sure they are accurate, placing the cache and registering it online for our enjoyment. Without Cache Owners doing their bit, there wouldn't be a fun hobby that we all love - so again a big THANK YOU. For our bit, all we need to do is find and log the cache that was carefully placed for our personal enjoyment. As we log it we should consider that the Cache Owner also needs to maintain it - when the log sheet fills up, they must replace it. When the container becomes full of water, they need to empty it. When the container is broken, they need to repair it. When it goes missing they need to find or replace it. Well..... the great news is we can do our bit too - make sure your log doesn't take an entire page - just a name and date. If full of water, empty and dry the cache as best as possible. Be careful when handling the cache and make sure you replace it where you found it. If it has a bag, seal it. Just remember - the Cache Owner showed respect to you by placing the cache - please respect them and fellow cachers that follow you by being careful with the cache. And if you have a spare log sheet and the cache you are at needs one, please leave it behind. Finally, if the cache does need maintenance, please let the Cache Owner know - you can log a Maintenance Log or you can drop a line to the Cache Owner. Above all - have fun and remember the Geocaching Code.

Today we enjoyed picking up caches from the lolly scramble trail, the fruit and vege trail, the cust trail and other various caches around the area. We found 50 caches altogether and had a great day. Caching with Injeanious and theBurnsy we signed the log books as JeJeBu to save time and space. Thanks to the cache owners for placing and maintaining the caches! Sorry for the cut and paste logs.

It's been a slow couple of months for me and Jess.daphne, so we decided to team up with The Burnsy and get a whole lot of caches. We headed off to pick up more of the Lolly Scramble, Fruit and Vege, and Cust trails, signing the logs as JeJeBu. We had a great day and grabbed 50 caches. Our best day yet! Thanks to the COs for the caches.

Our recent multi day Canterbury cache raid was so successful we decided to have another one before the holidays finished. Again we got stabbed, prodded, pricked and scraped by the variety of hedges the region is so famous for. And of course we can now hold our breath a lot longer. A skill well worth developing to avoid breathing in part of the road surface every time a vehicle passes. Just over 200 finds were logged this time and a great time was had finding the caches with a variety of shapes, sizes and placements. A big thank you to all COs who made this possible.

29-Apr-16
With a few more days of holidays left we decided to head south again and find some caches we didn't have time to look for last week, plus some more off the beaten track. This was one of 52 found today.
Thank you to all CO's who made this possible.

Kyzabra and I headed over for the Christchurch Mega from Perth, WA. Today we were joined by The Green Geckos today and we targeted some of the larger series around this area.

We had a fantastic time caching in the cooler climate and with no fear of snakes or other nasties! Christchurch is my old home town but I did not know about caching when I lived there so it was fun exploring the City with a different objective.

We were glad to grab the smiley on this one and we replaced the container as found. Thanks Hello Mrs for placing this and bringing us to this spot!

This is my find #4406 and find #63 today.

A caching expedition that has been months in the planning. Jinta29 and I headed over from Perth, and today we met up with the GreenGeckos again for a final day assault on NZ caches.

The next on our 210 run finding caches for the day with our team of four- HHSS. Working as a team each doing diff. roles we were able to speed up the find rate quite well and we managed to do about the first 100 with no Did Not Finds but after that the distances increased and the find rate dropped but we still managed to finish the day with 210 cache. The seagnoid has planned etc our route so it was all efficient Thank you to The Seagnoid for this pre work and thank you to the different cache Owners for these great, interesting caches. I just loved the huge chuppa chup and all the veges and fruit. . Thank you for the cache and another smiley face.

[green] Out with Hanknstone, Haydn.seek and thestepahine on an awesome 200+ day. We managed to get 210 caches in 11 hours, an average of 3 minutes each. There were a few awesome caches out there, but mostly it was a blur. Thanks to all the cache owners, and my apologies about the cut and paste!
Signed log as HHSS.

Hanknstone, Haydn.seek, the Seagnoid and I had a challenge of doing 200 caches in a day. We started at 7:30am and finished around 8:00pm with a total of 200+. Apologies for the copy and pasting of the logs but there were so many we found that it would take so long to write them all up individually! Thank you for the find. Smile

Our team for the Mega weekend was signing as VYV (Vamber, Yorkshirekiwi83 and Vistra). we found quite a few in the short space of time we were together, where I can I will make comments about the cache. We had teamed up back in Auckland and had been busy planning what we were going to target and in what order, of course plans changed even more so when we were down here, but that is part of what makes it fun and I had a great time over the weekend, thanks to all the CO's for placing.

Day 3 in Christchurch and I again teamed up with yorkshirekiwi83 and vamber for another big day of caching. We signed the logs as "VYV" to save time and space on the logs. We made an early start to the day as we knew we would be going for 200 caches. We started with the Lolly Scramble caches (which we had begun the night before) and made our way up to Oxford, before returning to Kaiapoi and working on the Horses 101 series, finding a number of other caches along the way. Apologies for the generic logs, but thank you to all the cache owners for placing these caches!

Came down to Christchurch for the 2015 MEGA with a group of caching buddies for the weekend. My first MEGA, and it was fantastic- loved every minute, the caching, the events, meeting other like-minded crazies (sorry, I mean cachers!!!). Our group found 283 caches throughout the course of the of the weekend, so apologies for the cut and paste logs- but it's going to take me hours to log them all!!!! All logs were signed as SEAC (South East Auckland Crew), to reflect out home caching base!
HUGE thanks to all involved in putting on the MEGA event, and also to all of the Chch CO's for the effort gone to in their hides- we found some awesome caches, including fantastic hides, and cleverly done camo.... well done Christchurch, you're an awesome bunch!

A quick fence jump (parking area was closed) and a race across the gravel, checked a couple of likely spots, and the cache was soon in hand. Thanks!

Sunny day but thst wind was a bit nippy. TFTC

Off to the Mega this weekend and a 2 day pass has been granted for Geocaching purposes. It being a long weekend and all there was definitely a plan to get some caches and keep the numbers ticking along. Finished work at 12.00 and waited for the accompanying nightowl19 to finish her school morning. Pick her up and back home to get changed and a bite to eat before heading down the line. There's an event in Rangiora that we'd like to attend and we need to check into our accommodation. All interspersed with few caches too. Today is the planned 200 plus in a day, to be followed by as many types in a day on Sunday, then back home Sunday arvo. Quite the whistle-stop tour. Weather played fair, we ate take aways all weekend. . . . . . . . . . . shameful parenting, and had a great time. Even got to cache with G H 6 7 1 0 too, bonus. We set off at 0600 and were all done by 2000 so not toooo long a day. A few hundred kms driven by G H and in the comfort of his 4 x 4 too.
To all the COs that placed these caches many thanks for facilitating this epic journey and (normally difficult caching target. In Marlborough I've already done so many so big numbers days are nigh on impossible without having to travel out great distances. Most logs were signed G C N being an acronym of our combined caching names. We replaced around half a dozen which were plainly missing on Thompsons Track which will surely help those who follow us.

A plan was hatched way back in April to bring a group of crazy cachers from the South Auckland area for a weekend of lovely caching at the Mega. For most of us it was our first Mega and what a blast we had. From the first event cache at the Airport, surprising one of our group with a birthday trip to the Mega (literally 30min warning to boarding!), meeting lots of like minded people around the Kaiapoi district and to the manic days caching to late, late in the night with our mega flags flying we all had such a great time.
All logs were signed as SEAC South East Auckland Crew. Sorry for the cut and paste log, but all the trails, trads and tricks imagined by all the local CO’s were fantastic.Big GrinBig GrinBig Grin Thank you to everyone for their wonderful hides. TFTC!

Found during the Mega weekend on bit of a tiki-tour around the Canterbury back blocks. Great weather, great caches, great fun! Thanks to all the cache owners for putting out and maintaining caches for us to find. All in all, a fun road trip with Boxhill and Yeetrees, we signed many of the logsheets as YGB to save both time and logsheet spaces. Cool
