Had solved this before we came, Day2 of our jolly to the West Coast and this made for a nice walk prior to jumping in the car to head home. A quick find and all in good order. Found with SJT_NZ.
TARV2014 had planned a weekend away to Cape Foulwind to enjoy the stunning scenery, and bag a few caches as weather allowed. Most caches were found reasonably quickly, and all were well maintained. Thanks to all the COs for placing the caches, and the beautiful spots that they took us to during our time in the area.
Grabbed the info yesterday while out for a bike ride, decided to double back today to see if I could find it.Once I clambered down a little at the hint location, the cache was soon spotted, TFTC
Again a rainy day, it was not fun to go caching but some caches I found.
Poor people.
Good hide.
Thanks.

#11,329. I have been down at Punakaiki for the week doing some work. Drove back last night to Westport and had a crazy early start dropping off a work colleague at the airport for the 6am flight. I was going to do some caching after that but it was too dark and passing showers put the kibosh on that idea. So back to the motel for breakfast then came here early in the day.
I managed to locate a photo of the plaque online so solved the coordinates before heading south. Sad to see how many men died in this accident. You think of shipwrecks from the 1860's, not the 1960s. I headed to GZ to have a look for the cache. Circled around looking in various spots in terrain that was higher than T1.5. Nothing found. Retreated to the car to work out my east and west bearings. Decided to have another go and approached from a different direction. This time I saw a likely hiding spot and found the cache immediately. Signed the logbook and replaced the cache where found. Thanks steveo34 for hiding it here.

I get the info from stage 1 yesterday, but didn't go for the final until today. After one arduous pass, I almost gave up, but then did another pass and found the cx. I think this is more than a T1.5. TFTC.
Got the information yesterday for this one and as we were out for a ride today. A little bit of a look before finding and signing cache. Thanks for the placement.
Out for a walk around Westport collecting a few caches as we go. It was very wild and rough out on the point today with only a couple of muggles out and about. We quickly found the information required and were making our way to gz. There was a family exploring the final gz, so we waited for them to move away before making a quick find here. Cache is in good condition. TFTC
Nice walk picking up caches. Bonus was the final was about 50m from where I parked my van.
Great multi, the sea looking quite rough today. I must have looked not much local as the fishing people pointed me right to it as I arrived. TFTC!!
TFTC! This was a fun cache to finish the nights mission, although the layout of the question makes for easy errors in the co-ordinates!
Great midnight geocache puzzle was fun but confusing to understand. Managed to figure out the rest of the coordinates by trial and error.
After an awesome 4 days walking the heaphy track with the boys we are staying in town for a couple of nights to rest....yeah right...
Let's go for a stroll along the Walk way??!!? No packs...
Grabbed the numbers while nabbing a 2tf...then headed off for the final....busy we place tftc

29 December 2019 16:16. Took a moment to read all the plaques before homing in on the correct one. So many! Sheltered in the lee of the light to work out where I needed to be, and then off I went.
Plenty of muggles around, but they were mostly engrossed in fishing, so I was able to search undisturbed. Found much more easily than I expected! Tftc. Best cache of the day, so have a FP.

I have just moved over to the South Island from Australia. Hoping to live and explore the country over the next few years and find a lot of caches on the way. Cheers for the hides.
After a lovely day yesterday the storms were back again. So we only had 3 hours to go out for a caching and shopping trip. And found the caches without too much trouble. Cheers.

.Had been out to the end of the breakwater earlier to collect the info and check out all the plaques there. Now time to visit the final to snag and tag this one. Cheers
Its off on another geotour this weekend with The Seagnoid, Zara and Toby. We spent last Sunday in Nelson collecting the gemstones from the Museum Heist, so this weekend we are on a Geotour to the Westcoast with The Seagnoid, Zara and Toby, to return the gems. Early Saturday morning we went on another magical tour of Denniston. Great views today just after dawn. Enjoyed a walk along the Kawatiri River Trail.

Wow - Was expecting the final for this cache to be on the other breakwater. In fact I was suggesting we not even bother solving the multi, just head over there. And then I though it would be cool to have the final over there, and another multi over there, with its final here. So was slightly surprised to see it was on this side. We walked to where this final is - but now we're in the car - how do we drive there?? Ah!
Taybeedragon and I headed out to the West Coast to figure out how to return the jewels taken from that big heist at the Teague-Ulmer Museum back into their vault. And I picked the West Coast to do that as there is a cache nearby that gives me the last hidden month for a NZ Jasmer. And on top of all that, it is the 50 year anniversary of the first men on the moon - Happy Moon Landing Day! While the rest of the country was bathed in glorious rain, we were stuck with sunshine and clouds. Oh, well, can't have it all.

Time for a wee walk around the KRT tail. A nice walk and pretty quiet too. picked up the TB, and note, the container has a big hole in it, made by a gnawing animal. Final coords quickly worked out. A nice and quick find. Cheers.
Today we pottered around Westport, geting some of the nearby caches. Then off to Hokitika for the night. Great weather and a lovely drive.
Thanks to all the CO's for placing and maintaining these caches. Cheers.

Soon had the numbers sorted and the cache was a quick find. The box has a hole in it and the bag is also pretty shredded. Maybe some wildlife fancied a chew of the cache! Everything is dry inside at the moment. TFTC.
I'ive started my beautiful trip of the South Island in Christchurch, I've visited many beautiful locations. I've travelled via Lake Tapeko, from Dunedin to the most southern part of Bluff. I've then continued with a cruise in Milford Sound and then back to Queenstown.
From there on I've visited Wanaka and the Haast pass to the Franz Josef glacier. I went all the way up to the Abel Tasman NP. Richmond und Nelson as the sonnierst cities were on my list as well.
I've soon reached the east coast in Picton and Blenheim.
After a couple of days, I've then travelled back to Christchurch via Kaikoura.
I've spent a couple of days in Christchurch and it's surroundings.
I've visited many geological sites and have found many caches along the way.
I've travelled 3500km and have experienced so much.
Thank you to all the owners

Great to see caches here placed so they don't wash away! Great spot to start this multi- quite sobering. Busy day at final with fishermen and chainsaw going. Thanks for the multi steveo34
What a nice beach..or it will be when all the stones are washed away ...great multi thanks Stevo34 well done
My second multi with Macwatt and Kahluis. A sobering reminder here of the power of the sea and these treacherous river bars on the west coast.

I decided to go for a walk around the KRT and the Buller River mouth before it got too hot this morning.
Cheers for the cache.

#15104. We were heading home today, and only had time for a couple of Westport caches. We targeted this one as it was a solved multi. After a short walk I got stuck into the search. This type of hide can be tricky to locate, but with the aide of the hint and a bit of luck I soon spotted the cache location. Nice spot for the final. TFTC.
Found with StreetWalker on our week long post Christmas trip to Reefton and the West Coast. Day 7: Waimangaroa to Christchurch.
I was determined we should find this cache as we have been in possession of the final co-ords for 3 and a half years now, waiting for us to return to Westport. I was sure SW was searching the wrong place as it didn't match the terrain rating, but luckily he ignored me and carried on searching there and found the cache.
Great to turn into a after all those years. TFTC.

Arrived in Westport today and after we had checked into our accommodation we headed out to grab some tea before doing some caching. Our first cache was here, so we parked up and had tea then braved the wind and grabbed the required info to work out the final co-ords. A discussion occurred re the decimal point but there was really only one answer. Headed off back up the road and made quick work of finding the cache. tftc
i-gotit had done the preliminary work for this, so we stopped to get the final before going out to the plaque. Perfect spot for it!
Before leaving home in Dunedin I had managed with the aid of Mr Google to sort out a set of likely co-ordinates so since we were here we decided on a quick and successful search before making our way out to where the raw data was. We were surprised as to how busy the road was.
There were a couple of tourists parked beside the lighthouse enjoying a rather slap up lunch when we arrived. I'm not sure they were enjoying the occasion quite so much when it started to rain - - - then next minute a bloke came along in a 4WD and told them to move on. We had a bit of a discussion about whether freedom campers get moved on in the middle of the day - - - or if it was just because they were blocking the turn-around space. In the end we both agreed to stick with our own views. Of course the other thing we discussed was AB. Turned out I got it wrong - - - it was very obviously wrong which meant there was no need to check out the wrong GZ. I would have had less trouble had the total number on board been XY and then AB was equal to XY + 1. Yeah I know, I'm a bit pedantic. Guess it comes from a lifetime in a job where one had to say or write exactly what one meant. Anyway long story short, when I'd worked everything out I had no trouble finding the cache. Thanks for the puzzle and the hide .
A few months ago we sorted out where the final would be, but there were too many people around so we decided to leave it for another day. We headed to Westport for the night, a nice late arrival meant there were no others around as we searched and found this one. TFTC
I took my family for a walk around the new Kawatiri River Trail. However, my main objective was to have a look for this one.
I had to rely on a previous log to figure out the coordinates. The first lot I calculated by myself had the cache out in the ocean.
The cache is in good condition. Which surprises me given its location. I have been here once before a long time ago with my uncle and his family. Coming here brought back happy memories.
Thank you

Have had the numbers for this one for a while now, and a partial search last year yielded nothing. All good today with 2 helpers and an accurate hint, muggle Joe came up with the goods thankfully. T F T M and C steveo34
After collecting the colleagues and taking them back to the motel there was still too much daylight left in the day to stop so I headed out with a muggle who was keen for a walk to clear his head. We managed 5 K R T's and a multi final and found another colleague who'd headed out this way on foot for a look-see. A awesome new walkway that wasn't here when I visited 10 months ago, and those wooden bridges are superb.
And so it was decided that for this years Anzac Day observations that a group of my workmates and I would head West, to the Coast, to pay our respects and parade in the Air Force colours. We loaded into the van on mid-afternoon on Monday and arrived in Westport just on dusk. Checked into the motel apartments for the evening before an 0430 start on Tuesday to parade at Granity followed by Waimangaroa at 0915 and finishing at Westport at 1100 to march on the Cenotaph.
An awesome couple of days with many new people met, places seen and other experiences and tales from the Coast. Oh, and a few caches too!

Found with NZDi. We had been intending to do a trip to the Coast after a workmate and fellow geocacher came back from a Christmas camping holiday and dropped a map of walks around Westport on my desk. On comparing the walk and geocaching maps, it was apparent to see there was plenty of scope for a geocaching holiday or three to the coast. The only thing we needed to ensure was that the weather played the game, unlike when my workmate had her Christmas break there. Knowing that we had the weekend free this weekend I kept an eye on the forecast for the coast and it was looking pretty good, so a motel was booked and a rudimentary and flexible geocaching plan was hatched.
The idea was to head to the Coast early on Friday morning picking up no more than half a dozen caches along the way. We limited ourselves to this as we know from previous experience that it can take over six hours to do an hour and a quarter trip if you are geocaching as well.. Once we got to the coast, we were going to do the Cape Foulwind walk, then cache as much as we could from there back to town. We then intended to do as much of the K.R.T caches before retiring for the night and in the morning do the Charming Creek Walk before heading back home again picking up the odd cache along the way. In the end it was mission achieved with 74 finds over two days and only one DNF along the way.
After our trip from Blenheim, severely limiting the amount of caches we grabbed along the way, we arrived at the carpark around 10am. After getting changed into more appropriate caching attire we walked the track to Tauranga Bay picking up all the caches in order apart from the nearby multi. After completing the Cape Foulwind walk, we headed back towards Westport picking up as many caches as we could along the way.
Now that we have almost cached-out the west side of the river, (except for a few to give us a reason for future visits to this great place), it is time to do some caching a little closer to town so that we are not to far away from our accommodation when the sun goes down. And what better way than to do the K.R.T series and the other caches in the accompanying area.
The road up to WP1 was lined with surfers vehicles, I think there must have been a surfing class going on. We watched surfers of various skill levels do there thing for a while before coming to do what we do. At GZ I was surprised to see a memorial for sailors who lost their lives at the far end of our nation so I used Google to find out the Kaitawa departed from here with a load of coal... that explains it. My first attempt had the final 13kms off the coast so I rejigged the maths slightly and got something that made more sense. I'm not sure if I'm the only one who has made this mistake as plenty of others have found this cache but the number on board plus one equals AB worked for me.
At GZ there were a couple of teenage girls playing about 100m away so we had a free reign to look for the cache which turned out to be a QEF.

Last time we were in Westport we didn't come over to this side. Glad we did, though, because there's so much more to explore. Thanks Steveo for placing this cache here so we could find out more about this area.
Mporokosa, Truffles and I had to abort our first attempt at gathering the required information due to a sudden downpour, but return we did a little later in bright sunshine. Typical Westport weather! Once we completed the calculations we headed to GZ where the hint was more useful than the coordinates which had us starting our search 18 metres away. We were lucky with our timing as the sole white-baiter vacated his post right beside the GZ just as we arrived. TFTC.
We got the numbers for this one and got to the probable ground zero, but after a decent search and with the light decreasing we called it a day unfortunately.
Got the numbers and was then treated to a beautiful sunset at the final. TFTC

DNF
Was in Westport for two nights and it was time to leave this lovely part of the west coast and make our way today to Nelson, this was our second DNF for the day.
Managed to find a car park not too far from GZ and it was a quick walk to GZ managed to gather all the required information at the given GZ, and then worked out something that made perfect sense and realised where the final was.
Arriving at the final GZ and noted that it was muggle central, had a quick search and realised that this was going to be hopeless so decided to give it up and decided that it was time to move on.
Thanks for bringing us will put the information away for another time when we are back in this area.

Very quiet seas at the mouth today and we watched a fishing boat chug slowly past. Got the numbers, did the maths and off to the final which required a bit of a look around before finally spotting the cache.
Really enjoyed the visit for this one, and one of the more significant caches in Westport I think.

Oh dear, we messed up here: entered the wrong co-ords into the GPsr and ended up in Carters beach with GZ in the ocean. Ooops. Next visit, we hope.
13000… So this is where the locals and visitors alike hang out on a wet morning, great sunlit views on the water, thanks for showing us this memorial.
After a small talk with a fishing man we could log the cache without his notice. Nice place at Westport.
Quick find in the dark. Interesting spot need to come here with light next time. Tftc
It took a while to find this cache. Due to the angle of the sun it was hard to see this cache and it had a good cover of rocks.
Having been down the south side of the river entrance a few days ago, it was interesting to visit the other side. The coordinates were soon calculated, and the cache found after a short search, on the sheltered side of a very windy little headland. TFTC
We had to abort our efforts on this cache last time we were here due to muggles so tonight we made another attempt and after a short drive to the final GZ the cache was soon in hand. TFTC.
A previous attempt had to be aborted for muggles. Tonight the coast was clear. With a no show at the coords the hint was employed. Plain sailing from there while Holymu was leading from behind =) Took TB .TFTC
Good to find everything in tact this time, after we only found part of the container last time

Sad (and too close to home for worker). We visit here just because of these memorials. No problem with the cache thanks.
The first one in the morning bevor we go to Motueka. Was very windi on this point. Thanks
During the breakfast I searched the coords witch made sence. It was very windy at the spit, so we spent not much time there and went to the final coords. Thanks for hiding
As promised, brought help this time. AND I needed it. Missed it AGAIN. Thanks to Mr Kiwi_Explorer for showing me where it was all along. VERY surprised this survived the flood some weeks ago! Area showing the scars of it for sure. Thanks for placing this cache.
14/7/12 @ 11.20am - Just a shame we picked the worst weather ever to find caches like these, will come back maybe one day when the weather is kinder, such an amazing spot SLTFTC

Nice and easy, quite a few plaques at GZ, figured out the math in seconds

This took us way longer than it should have. The geocaching app suggested I swim to the middle of the river. My gps compass app put us within 2 m of the final. The kids enjoyed skipping stones on the beach. TFTC
We drove out o the turning bay just before WP1 and walked up to the point, a great spot, we were oppisite last night to get the cache over there.
Then off to the final for an easy find.

A quick find in the rain while in Westport for the day. No problems with the questions or the cache itself. I clearly remember the time when this vessel was lost and the inquiry that followed. Signed log, TFTC!
The last of the day - we had been trying to work of the gps - gave up and went to where we were sure the answers would be - and we found ourselves in the right place - co-ords soon sorted and we were off - oh no GZ is full of fisherman and yet more whitebaiters !!!!! after a little hunting and some stealth we managed for me to extract the cache signed log and a bit more stealth to replace the cache - a good multi and a good hide thanks for the cache
This cache caused more problems than it should have!!! We were being directed to the wrong area so after awhile we ignored the instructions of the gps and used our gut instinct and got to the correct place!!! On arriving at the final we had to avoid mmore "fisherman" that were surrounding the final Persistence paid off and Niteowlnz came up trumps with cache in hand TFTC
A nice multi, enjoyed the final location, found after quite a search. Nice hide!! TFTC.
Worked out the final co-ords with a bit of common sense and was able to check the last remaining digit on Google. So after a brief search we had this one in the hand and were able to set our own TB on its way.

Dang. First (and only) DNF of the trip. Seem to have done a multi previously here that started in the same spot. Or am I confused? Anyway, too good for me today.
we camped nearby and did this multi just before dark, we did not know the last figure and we guessed, we had to search a while but we found it
