Day 2 of our 4 day anniversary road trip to Maryborough and out West. Lots of adventure to be had with my love SCAHPA. Log signed as CS & SC to save time and room - Trademark skeleton animals sticker left in cache - TFTC, effort time and maintenance That was hectic, thought the climb up was it. Then you gotta find the cache! Take water

Great views up there

I am on my way north for the long week-end. And thought I might stop to find a cache or two along the way to break up the drive. I parked the car and started the walk up the trail. Eventually reaching the picnic table at the top. Because I did not read the info board at the car park, I was surprised by the 'view' up here. (I did read the sign on my return to the carpark) Well worth the walk and fav point.I then headed over to GZ to make a quick find as the coords well good. I made a quick find today. Thanks for the cache.

18-Jul-23
It's a bit out of the way but worth the walk.Plenty of room to turn the biggest caravan and the road to carpark is not that rough.
Cache in good condition and ballpoint pen even works.
Thanks for placing the cache Youngoldfella

After a little bit of a hike found it. TFTC youngoldfella

11-Jan-23
That was a nasty hill climb after 12 months of no exercise but it was great to be back doing what we love. Stopped for a rest at the picnic table ( who wouldn't). GeowifeE was the brave one who trudged on through the long grass and around by the cactus trees and through the rocks. She got to within 17m but decided she needed GeowifeD for support. Well i had to go through the long grass now too didn't I. She made the final scramble up to sign the logbook. Thanks for bringing us here, it was well worth it ( now I'm at the bottom).

06-Sep-22
Now that was a mission. Grass is long, bring a machete or wear long pants once you find your way it's easy enough. Go to the very top. Beautiful views, amazing how no trees grow in the middle, that's really interesting and I'll be doing some research on that tonight. This is one of my favourite caches, this and the tunnel cache in Mt Perry are outstanding spots. I wonder if there is a public toilet up here?

22-Aug-22
Bit of a scramble but nice find

30-Jun-22
Grass was to long no actual path to take once your at the cactus tree

17-Apr-22
Note to self. Read the description before charging in. Luckily the afternoon was cooling and I took a bottle of water. That was a lot more work than I'd expected. The view was spectacular. The spear grass not so much. I hate that stuff. Now to go deburr.. tftc

very over grown! big spiders and itchy legs!

Which tree? Hectic wind up here today. Cools us nicely. tftc

Hard walk for an overweight I’m fit 63-year-old woman but well worth getting up there to have a look and thank you for the hide although I wasn’t keen on walking through spiderwebs and stuff but never mind we made it make sure you bring water with you

Quick grab on way home blazing up mt walsh. My knees are not going to forgive for at least a week.. Nice views...all green after the rains. Wonder what this area looked like earns ago..???

09-Jul-21
Nyssaflutterby, 1minniemoo and I headed up, and up and up here to see the lake… well the lake bed anyway.
After some photos of that we headed up to GZ where the cache was easily located.

9/7/21 Find #4870
Road Trip time!! NyssaFlutterby, wombles and co and I were heading off for a weekend of fun and frivolities. First stop along our journey was Kilkivan. From there is was up to Ban Ban Springs and across here for this cache.
The phone told is we would have to park at the roadside and walk up. Thankfully this was not the case, and we made the journey up to the parking area to begin our little hike, hoping the rain clouds wouldn’t release while we did.
And luckily, they didn’t. However we did end up with quite the collection of red mud on our hiking boots.
But we made it to the top, and Wow. What a spot!
Not only are the views pretty awesome - and we identified Mt Walsh in the distance, which we climbed a few years back - but the crater itself is rather cool! The only drawback was that it appeared bone dry. I can imagine how glorious it would be when it has water in it - and of course the picture at the carpark helped to fill in the blanks.
A short walk along the geotrail and a clamber up the rocks and we soon had our cache, still with original logbook inside.
Then wombles and I began our descent, and seemed to have lost Nyssa. Eventually she joined us - I’m still convinced she decided to wander off and take a dip.
Thanks for the cache youngoldfella. A favourite point from me.

Up up and up! Reaching the top we had a small rest and enjoyed the view before continuing on to GZ. Once we arrived the container was in hand quickly.

Thanks for the cache youngoldfella Big Grin
Happy to part with a FP

Nice view up here. Completed with CDAH55 who kept letting go of gas on the way up. It really was a blast from the past. Wore cross getting to this cache.

Found with Dora the Explorer! on our mini road trip this weekend. Great views from up here. The crater is interesting. TFTC.

20-Feb-21
I had planned to do the Mary River kayaking event and a couple of caches in the area. Then I got an invite to help out with some Maryborough caches from Willis007 and Simber15, ok I’m in. At the event Esmiley joined in for the drive and some helping hand on the geocaching 101 series around Maryborough. After a “short” detour to Ban Ban Springs it was then onto our planned adventure.

With some confusion as to the signing of the log it was either signed as screw or scew depending on what we felt, lol. Along the way we passed a few caches for a quick grab or a short walk. All were signed and all caches replaced as found, thanks for the series and placing them here.

This was a great series to do and of all the caches we found today they were all in very good condition. Some caches required a little looking, while some were just quick easy finds, either way it was a nice drive along this part of the countryside.

20-Feb-21
Enjoyed the walk with E_Smiley, Chamad and Willis007. MrsSimber15 watched the cars and gear! Was a bit steep and a bit hot for her. Otherwise really enjoyed the views of the crater from above. Such a fascinating geological find. Never seen anything like it. Starting to imagine Wolf Creek might be similar although less green.. that's on the one day list. Thankyou for the excuse to stop the car after a trip up the Mary River followed by a random detour through Ban Ban Springs for a rare combination. Next stop, Maryborough!

20-Feb-21
Joined Team SCREW (Simber15, Chamad, E_Smily - that's me and willis007) to go caching after the 14 km kayak event at Kybong. Passed by Ban Ban Springs for a target cache and on our way to collect Geocaching 101 at Doongul we stopped to pick this highly favourited cache. Quite a hike! 260m meters up was all we need to stretch those muscles after 4 hours kayaking. Lol

Thanks for the cache and taking us here youngoldfella. Lovely view.

20-Feb-21
With the Mary River kayaking event and an enticing 101 series in Maryborough to do, a few of us got together and decided to make a weekend of it.
After a lovely morning paddling along the lovely river and enjoying it's wildlife and surrounds, we headed to Ban Ban Springs to pick up a cache to help with a challenge, and then continued to Maryborough to start the 101 trial.
Our team, consisting of Simber15, E_Smiley, Chamad and myself agreed on a team name - a bit of confusion arose with some logs being signed SCEW and others SCREW. Either way our group had a great time racing around the countryside collecting caches.
We decided to stop by here on our way to start the trail and climbed up quite a hill! Sensational spot up here, well worth the climb.
Cache was quickly located, log signed and off we went.
Thanks for the cache youngoldfella.

What a great spot! Magnificent views. Sadly the lake was dry during my visit.
The hike up the hill in the middle of the day (30 degrees) was sweaty work!
Thanks for bringing us here.
Thanks For The Cache!

I noticed this turnoff in the way north but on the way back home it was time to take a look. No grass on the way to GZ. cattle have been keeping it under control. Thanks youngoldfella FP for the cache. pocket up TB

Grey nomads, we have been on the road since July 2011 and discovered caching in August 2013. We travel with a bunch of travel bugs belonging to our sons and grand children. Now we having to coped with Corona Virus ..... and social distancing, we are finally free to hit the road, even tho in this instance it is only for two weeks.

Camped in Biggenden, doing a few of the natural sights today. We found a Swagman, then continued on to look for some lions. And a volcano

We drove to carpark and started the walk. I got half way and sat and admired the view while partner in crime continued up the hill. Call over they walkie talkie, some badtstd put a rubber snake in the container..... How cruel is that! Thanks youngoldfella for the speccy hide.

19-Mar-20
The container has been replaced and is no longer the going Rusty tin that has survived for so long. Thanks to Bindair Dundat for his assistance in looking after this hide. The new container is a Sistema container. At the moment the grass is very long thanks to the recent heavy and plentiful rains. Look at the base of the tree at the co ordinates for a well covered hide.

02-Jan-20
Nice steep walk to the top. Looks Volcanic. Easy fun find!

21-Dec-19
Driven past the sign to this place a few times over the years and have always meant to stop. This time we did! Just a short walk to the first lookout as a mid December afternoon walk is probably not the choice timing!! Hot, very hot!!! It was a good walk up to break the drive. Ready to sit down in the car and drive again. Interesting lake, bit it's been a while since there has been any water here. Will stop by again if I ever hear it has filled. Thanks for the cache!!

02-Dec-19
Quick find. With it being so dry, grass wasn't an issue. Tftc

31-Jul-19
What an interesting location! So peaceful up here this morning. (We’re sitting at the table on the rim while logging this. )
Thanks for your cache and showing us these craters.
All is good and dry here.
Thanks again youngoldfella.

Bush bashed through the overgrown area and eventually found this one. The lookout and bird hide are pretty nice, though doesn't look like its been a lake for quite some time.

Sorry for the 'late' log, ...ahem.

this one had been on the radar for some time as the 'closest unfound' cache, so i was well aware of the year odd since the last find and was eager to sign my name asap. Of course, it was only while on the road we read an update of a possible new container needed. And then murphy's law finding us empty container handed. oh well. Parking up, we had a pleasantly steep climb quite suddenly and then a good hunt at gz for its location. I've seen much worse condition caches, so this one should hold up admirably in the meantime.
I'll have to come back for the proper walk in, possibly after some rain though..
Thanks Youngoldfella for placing a cache here some ten odd years back

Smallwombat sitting in passanger seat we had the weekend off and we needed a numbers run for the hidden creatures event, so it's off to bundy with this on the must get list we had to stop and enjoy the 400m steep walk in thongs the view made it well worth it cheers YOF

15-Jul-18
I was driving past here today and decided to do a quick check on the cache, as the last find was nearly a year ago. That climb doesn't get any easier, but happy to report the cache and contents are in pretty good order. There's a bit of rust eating away the top of the tin, so it's only a matter of time before water starts to get to the contents. Maybe the next finder could consider a replacement - a 1-litre sistema would do nicely. Cheers from Bindair Dundat, hopefully saving yof a maintenance run.

15-Jul-18
I am unable to get there for a bit but will endeavour to replace the container within the next two months.

Nice greets from Germany. Tftc

09-Dec-16
I've had this one on the radar for years and today the opportunity to find it finally presented itself. It only took a short rummage through the scrub before the rusty little tin was in hand. Log and contents are dry and in good condition. Thanks for the cache youngoldfella. Cheers from Bindair Dundat.

Pprime and I had sped past this area about 6 months ago. I remember Pprime mentioning the National Park and he had encountered it at work. Little did I know I'd be back to that area.

I was after this cache in particular because of its age. My car GPSr said I could drive to the top. The rocks across the road at the car park at the bottom say otherwise. I parked up and made my way slowly to the top.

I had just done "Auburn" and was running low on energy - but I trudged up the hill. I could see where my GPSr was pointing. I finally arrived at the top and admired said crater.. that was most certainly lacking the "lake" part.

I followed my GPSr to GZ. Of course I made things very difficult for myself but I finally got there. It took about 10 minutes before I located the prize. It was in fair condition. (tin is a little worse for wear, plastic baggy is broken... but has a log book that was dry and I could sign!).

I slowly made my way down to the car. Very happy I managed to find that beast. Thanks for showing me the area, youngoldfella. TFTC Smile

We spent all morning doing the walk past both crater lakes and doing a bit of birding. The lakes are dry at the moment which we expected. Would love to see them with a bit of water in them some day. We didn't see a single person while we were there. On our way back we decided to do the cache. We could see the geo-trail and it didn't take long to find. When we got back to our ute it was surrounded by cows. There were lick marks all over it. Guess they love it as much as we do! A favourite from me. Thanks youngoldfella we've done a few of your caches over the years.

09-Jul-16
Beautiful views. Lake is empty. Finally we stopped here .... Inspired by the cache. Tftc

06-Jul-16
Looked for over an hour but am thinking maybe the gps was out due to trees? We are determined to come back again and make the find!

05-Jul-16
An awesome place to hide a cache.
A hill with quite a view.
We came to seek and find the stash,
And learn a thing or two.
Our boys looked up and said 'oh no',
We bribed them with a treat.
And soon we called, 'not far to go!',
With mud caked on our feet. Big Grin
The summit reached, a photo snapped,
Then off to find the prize.
A search ensued, GZ we lapped,
A toad we did surprise.
At last we found the hidden spot,
And put our names inside.
We quite enjoyed this one a lot,
Well done on this great hide.

The Esky family traveled north from Toowoomba for the holidays to visit friends at Cannonvale. Now on the return journey and after spending a night at Bargara this was the final leg home. We stopped now and then to grab a cache and stretch the legs. Another purpose of the trip was to fill in distances for the Well-Travelled Cacher Challenge and this was a good looking candidate. Wow! This spot is spectacular. There is no way we would have stopped here except for the cache as the signage isn't much. Obviously little known except for locals I would say as surprisingly my father who worked for the QNPWS for 40 years had not even heard of it. Thanks for placing the cache YOF. A fav point from us.

A great bit of geography. Thanks for bringing us here.

11-Mar-16
We decided to head off for a couple of days in the caravan and do some caching while heading to Eidsvold and Wuruma Dam. In Eidsvold we paid $10 and stayed at the RM Williams training centre. It proved to be a convenient and quiet base for us to do many of the caches. The trails around Eidsvold provided a good look around this nice town. We enjoyed finding this cache. Thanks to youngoldfella for placing this cache and adding to our enjoyment of the location. CoolCool

28-Dec-15
While staying at my parent's farm near Mundubbera, my muggle mum and dad (as they had the 4WD), my daughter pinkypie05, my son mazza151 and myself decided to see the craters near Coalstoun Lakes. It was a bit of a walk up, especially carrying my daughter. It was amazing to see the crater. I was glad it wasn't full of water as that was how I wanted to see it. We didn't walk to the next crater as it would have been quite far to carry my daughter and my parents might have struggled. TFTC and for bringing us to this amazing place! I saw it last year but had to wait till this Christmas to do it. I had never known about these craters when growing up in the district. My parents said they knew about it (never told me) and had never seen them so was I was glad I could show them too.

28-Dec-15

28-Jun-15
Far out! You mean we have to walk UP THERE??? Well, after making it to the top, GeoTM sat down for a rest while GeoAJ continued on to GZ, fighting his way through some local residents (aka orb spiders) before finally locating the cache. Brilliant views from up here and well worth the walk. TFTC

08-Jun-15
Nothing better than a quick early morning hike up a rocky, grassy trail to see the crater, then through head high grass kicking/tripping over/falling into those grass-hidden boulders and climbing up rocks to get to GZ, then battling off huge spiders to find a small tin hidden away to sign a log book! Oh, did I also mention the vines? Found at 8 am on 8th June 2015. TFYTC, Youngoldfella.

06-Oct-14
Area well worth a visit. TFTC

18-Jul-14
Walked in to check on this one. I know it is frowned upon for a CO to log a find on their hides. Need something to power me on to do this walk with my sore legs for a maintenance trip. Apologies.

24-Dec-13
This was a nice place to stop and stretch our legs whilst heading north to Cape Tribulation from Sydney on a 3½ week road trip. It was a beautiful day with great views and we got some lovely photos, especially of a flowering cactus half-way up the track to the top.
Thanks,

North Qld 2013. Day 36 Biggenden to Glenn Innes for the third day driving home. This was a bit of a heart starter, but very enjoyable. Unlike on the google image there was lots of water in the lake. It even looked pretty spooky. The rocky cluster with the cache provided plenty of spots to search, but with a bit of patience I eventually looked in the right spot and extracted the cache. Thanks.

1278. Finally made it past this one on our way home from rocky this trip.. Thought this climb would be another Mt Scoria - Mt Larcom climbs, Luckily it wasn't that stressfull, Mrs K did some Birdwatching at the Lake while I located the cache, an interesting place !

Smile Well, this was an adventure, Arrived at the road ends sign, this does not look good, cause it is still a long way to the top, anyhow followed the track up the hill, remember I'm in the Coaster, found the gate that says "NO TRESPASS _ Private Properity", then spotted the sign to the national park.
One look at the track, No Way.

Turning the Coaster around was a bit of a feat. Parked up and walked up the hill.
The track has been recently mown up to the saddle. At the saddle followed a cow track to where the GPS wanted me to go bush, a short scramble over some rocks, and the cache in hand. Smile

Expected the cache to be water logged, but all was in fair condition.
The next time the CO is here, please bring a new container, this one is a bit rusty and difficult to open.

29-Apr-12
Went to this one a few weeks ago when passing through. didnt find it Smile Almost 6 months since last found, this could be too overgrown.

29-Apr-12
I wont take it off line just yet. Will be at least 5 weeks before I get time to check this one out as my days off for the next three roster rotations are allready booked for other activities visits etc. Should be able to check it by the long weekend in June 2012.

Our 5056th overall find.

We were on our way to Bundy with my sister following in her car but she was about 20min behind. Would we have time to do this cache, certainly? We drove up to where the road ends towing the camper trailer. It was a bit difficult to turn around with the track being so overgrown but it was soon done. I then suggested Shell wait at the car and I'll run up and grab the cache and come back. I mean it cant be that hard to find can it? The walk up was simple enough with some long grass but soon I was at the high point, funnily enough only 70m from the car. Once under the trees though the GPS didn't want to play the game and I spend 15 minutes going from tree to tree checking. Getting more frustrated and feeling like this was going to be a DNF I extended the search to go down off the 'top' after 5 more minutes I was going to have to pull the pin when the aforementioned sister rang saying she was in Biggenden how far away were we? Dejected I left the search area and then spotted the cache. What luck!

I really enjoyed this one, the views are worth the trip alone. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks to youngoldfella for the cache.

In the area and decided I had to check on this one. Claiming the find due to the terrain being different to when it was hidden and cache creep. Have to find your own sometimes especially when you do not have a GPSr with you and relying on memory. good views from up here.

30-Jan-11
Was camping neer by for the weekend with friends and decided to see if there was any water in the craters after all this rain, and sure enought it was full. (I have never seen water in the crater before). Now a walk thru the LONG grass to the cache area. The GPS brought us close to the GZ but had to relay on good old "looking"lucky the cache was not under any of these rocks we would have never found it. Cache is still in realy good order and not to hard to find if you look around the GZ.

Holy Jeebus it was freezing up here this morning! After a few weeks up North it wasnt too bad on the lee side. Note to all. If you drive a 1990 Corolla, do not attempt to drive all the way to the top. It takes a long time to drive it out of the resulting bog. Walked to the GZ Razz, met and had a chat to a local on horseback though. Amazing geology here, and I wouldn't have known it existed, TFTC.

08-May-10
after giving Mt Walsh a swerve
dropped in here for a look.
and test out the new toy truck ....
Been past many times without realising the significance of the site.
Impressed Big Grin ... and the crater was actually holding a bit of water too.
- off to the cache, with the scramble made more difficult due to the grass coverage at the moment
couple of little delves into the scrub - before opting for the obvious and coming up trumps
cache still in good nick
cheers

Took the easy way and drove, much to the disgust, I think, of the other group who left their Landcruisers at the bottom of the hill. Took me a fair while to find this one.
