Kakanui is turning into a black spot of dnfs. definitely in the right place but no luck today
I spent an enjoyable four weeks in New Zealand. I saw a lot of beautiful natural sites. On the way south, I found this cache. Thanks for the cache, greetings from Prague.
I collected the required info but left the signing of the logbook to later in the afternoon.
Cheers for the cache.
Cheers for the cache.
Grabbed the required info yesterday while visiting my brother & his family. Out here again today visiting my SIL & niece so it made sense to tick this one off before I head back up north. Great memorials for such a small village. TFTC
managed to solve this from the comfort of home in preparation for another trip several months ago. Pleased to find it all worked out perfectly with the find today. TFTC #7977
Just visiting the area of Kakanui for a few days . What a lot there is to do here with sea and estuary and wildlife reserves it's amazing. Also an opportunity for a few caches. Thanks to the owners for bringing us to such a lovely spot .
First multi totally confused and so gave up. Found the memorial worked out the coordinates but couldn't find it
A little logic solved this puzzle so after walking around the Taranui coastline caches we went past the memorial grove. NZhistory.net says the new replacement bronze tablet and information board were added in time for the First World War centenary in August 2014 - it ertainly looks very well cared for. Then off to the final, which does need a bit of TLC. Thanks for showing us these special palces in Kakanui waitaki999.
Time was against me so only got to the first part of this cache. I think I worked out the maths correctly but didn't have time to search for it.
Not sure how but we mucked up somewhere as our co-ords weren't quite right but soon spotted somewhere that looked obvious. Found with Aoraki Sheep.
Two well kept memorials and the log is signed and returned to it's hiding place. Found with debsnz
A nice quick multi. No problems with either the coordinates or the final. TFTC
Found on day 1 of an 8 day NZ Mega event trip while heading South in the company of Yeetrees and agcnz.

Came here on the way south to Dunedin today with fozzmiester and Yeetrees. No problems with the questions and the cache was a quick find - signed log, TFTC
On a caching trip with ingidayna to Oamaru and surrounds to get 1000 finds. A nice quick multi, but log too wet to sign. TFTC
Almost that time of year again. Lest we forget.
Thank you for placing this cache.
Thank you for placing this cache.
I enjoy visiting memorials and this gives me the perfect reason to learn a little more about places and their history. TFTC
#21 of what we think was 50 for the day for the johnnygoescaching crew. Lotsa logs to do.....
TFTC, Well over due log.... Found this with the Jonnies goes caching boys, and wolf pack leader.
Found on a day long caching trip to Oamaru with the Johnnygoescaching group. TFTC
Great multi cache. Found with Birdflu & Wally0ne. TFTC. [Number sixteen for the day]
Mathematicians don't need monuments. Solved while walking Kakanui River Track. Damage quite sad at Final.
This had been on my list for a while so it was a good afternoon to have a drive around, do the maths and sign the log.

Found with YuGeo4, another quick multi, well at least we got it correct, another monument to the brave soldiers of the pass that we will never forget. TFTC TNLNSL (1278)
Enjoyed the maths with a difference. GZ revealed a very wet cache. Poured the water out and dried the paperwork as best I could. Left silica gel.
2936. The cache is a little bit worse for wear - inside and out. Thanks for getting us to stop and remember.
Thanks

It is sobering reading the numbers of young men from such small communities that paid the ultimate price for our freedom.
A nice multi - at the waypoint it looks like the local kids have made big poppies for the upcoming Anzac Day, there were about 30 all near the memorial plaque. Co-ords quickly worked out and the cache was in hand shortly afterwards. Thanks TNLN
Easy find even though it took us two days to complete the task - having been sidetracked away after visiting the first waypoint. TFTC
Did the first part earlier in the day, but we were heading in the opposite direction, so decided to pick this up when we came back past. PB made a quick find.

Just goes to show that no corner of the country was left un effected by loss during the two wars, we will remember them. TFTC
Wallaceduo were just about to leave the waypoint as we drove up but we had to go quite some way further on before finding a spot to do a U-turn so they were gone before we arrived back. Met them a few minutes later at another cache. Seem to remember visiting the final for another cache not too long ago!
Found it by "accident" - Russell said that would be a good place for a cache, so we stopped, I said "No! I looked in the internet before, there is no cache." So we wanted to carry on, got a few meters and someone was waving from the other side of the road to stop. So we did, he asked if we are doing that "GPSthing" and that he watched a few people searching for and hiding a small container before. So we found the cache and explained Geocaching to him.
Were past here duing the day so took some pic's of the plaque and can back to night to find the cache.
