Thank you for getting us there and for the information. Wouldn't have come that far with Kid4 otherwise. She loved the container! TFTC!
Heading from Auckland to Whangarei today, I decided to take a quick stop here, go for a short walk and pick up a few caches. A quick find of this neat cache at this lovely spot. TFTC!
One of my favorite cashes to check on. Dropped off a tracker CVMT71 / TB9BEA9.
What a wonderful cache to find, with much thought put in. My partner couldnt believe there was such a place or happening - these are the treasures we find and the history thats remembered due to geocaching. Thank you!!
Walked straight across from the Hiding? Nah! TCW cache but found a better way to get back. Nice to see the memorial Thanks for bringing me here
This place wasnt marked on my map, I think I remember seeing this event on TV. Thanks for bringing us here and great cache container, very appropriate. TFTC
What a great series what and a creative cache as well. It would have been sad to have seen all those whales die but I guess that's mother nature. Great cache and TFTC
Slimy slugs and prickly gorse but a video call to show my daughter the cool cache made the adventure worthwhile. The satellite map helped me find the right walking track
Took a break on our drive from Auckland to Whangarei. TFTC. The beach is beautiful!
What a lovely place for a cache. A quick find. Gets a favourite point from us. TFTC
Find #702Found while walking Te Araroa - new Zealands long pathway from Cape Reinga to Bluff. Thank you to all the cache owners who place and maintain these caches, and thank you to all the people who help me and others on the way. Thanks for bringing me here, despite the sad circumstances, a spot like many others I would have walked straight past if not for caches. Cache is in good condition
What a beautiful day for a walk from the Ruakaka Campground to this cache. As others have said we wouldn't have stopped by this spot and memorial if it wasn't for the cache. Upon arrival at GZ the cache was a quick find and what a fantastic cache it was. Thanks for bringing me here and TFGC.
Stayed at the campground nearby. Found this during our beach walk in the morning.
Great beachside hide. Enjoyed walk there and back. Recommend parking near beach entrance and walking across beach and over dunes.
A poignant memorial. Thank you for sharing this story and spot. Adorable container. Fav from us. NINO TFTC
Another beautiful day for a walk along the beach.
No muggles around gz, so I was free to search and see if I could spot anymore whales (or anything else) from here.
I left a pet rock - a rabbit.
Thanks for putting this here

No luck finding this one with all the gorse. Interesting local history to learn about.
1423. 3:08 pm. DNF avenged! Returned to pick this one up. Serious offset cache, but ignore the clue as all visible cabbage trees - dead or alive - are not it! The cabbage tree remains cannot be seen from 'GZ' and amazingly there is not obvious geotrail. The two geotrails that are present lead to the two visible cabbage trees. Very happy to change this one to a . TFT(whale)C.
We walked in from Ruakaka and had all but given up here because there was no sign of hint item. Eventually, 28 meters ‘southish’ from posted coords, we found the remains of hint item. Yes! ha ha, shame I didn’t read the description first!
Headed for a hint item in the distance in correct direction after reading the description fully.
At the prescribed distance I was about 8m short...but there it was at the dead remains ....
Thanks

So much gorse! And we started at the wrong cabbage tree. Cool container though, once we made our way back through all that gorse to the other tree. TFTC
Found Plaque then cabbage tree trunk....
If I had known it was a gorse hunt I would have brought my Gloves out of the car. .

Warm out at 9:30pm and not a lot of light to help through the gauze. Sorted nevertheless.
Camping @ Uretiti for xmas... Found the plaque at the coords.. It took few minutes before reading the whole story and find the cache.. TFTC
I took a stroll along the back of the dunes to find this one. An interesting location. I finally found the cache, it was full of ants but they ran away. Tried to take a shortcut back to the track and found a dead but prickly end, so I had to go back the way I had come - through those nasty prickles. TFTC (and what the prickles).
Being our last day at Uretiti DoC Park, we decided to leave this one to last, to celebrate the anniversary of Blue Switch Day and log it now A very clever cache fitting to the location Thank you - Regards Michael and Michelle (The Flying Brick, NZ) ️
Good luck with your 27 paces...the gorse has created a deviation hence mny more paces and the poor old Australis is dead Jonah lives on took a while but takes to basic nav hint I managed a smilie thanks for the cache nofixed aboders
Well silly me I didnt read the brief. But i knew what a cordyline Australis was. Trouble was I couldn't see any. Then I sussed where to go and found "beached as". Cool cache and a location I would never have known about had it not been for this cache. Thanks for bringing us here no Fixed aboders
Walked up the beach with my sister Tikitour during leap day Uretiti Seaweek CITO. Picking up a little trash along the way. Is good to see how clean the beach is here.
The cache gets a favorite for the interesting but sad story. The death of so many whales is distressing, the effort to save them is moving. I liked discovering the plaque commemorating the story - if not for geocaching another interesting spot and story would be missed. The cache was very easily found, well done with the container. Thanks.

Enjoying the beach while part of the CITO team, and a few bonus extra caches while here, I remember these events , very sad, but a nice commemorative spot and cache. Thanks for Bringing us here. Thanks for the hide.
An interesting but sad find for my #2000 Nice container.
Warning if sensitive the beach here is popular with nudists. Don't be shocked.

I almost thought the cache was not here, but then we read more of the description with the extra 27m etc details. The Cordyline australis was helpful to aim for.
Tip: don't venture for this one with bare feet from the beach (there's heaps of gorse!).
Geoson C claimed it was his best cache ever (definitely a favourite!) & I had quite an effort convincing him that the camo was not collectible!

For our first few days in New Zealand we went to the Uretiti Beach to relax and get over the jetlag. Sure we do a short walk around the campground and find some caches.
I really liked hearing the story about the wales even it's a sad one. Thanks for telling and showing.

TFTC
Oyt for an afternoon caching thanks for this history about the area favourite from us
I looked up the hunt item at home so I'd be able to find this cache easily. I read the plaque at gz. It's very sad when a pod of whales beaches themselves. The log was a bit damp and I was saturated from the thighs down. A lovely place for a morning wander if you're not a geocacher and going off track, lol. It really is a lovely area here, thanks
Headed up North with Jag50 and Merlot58 to stay in Pahi for the long weekend. On the third day we headed out to the Waipu area. It was a nice walk along the dunes to GZ and then a quick find of the themed cache.
I was staying in Pahi with the Jags and Aiden29 for Easter so plans were made to collect as many caches as we could while we were up north. After finding the right hint item it was a quick find. A few slugs had taken up residence i the cache so we cleaned it out as best we could
We decided to get way for Easter and stay in Pahi with Merlot58 and Aiden29. Got to GZ and found the nicely themed cache. Our adventure here was a whale of a tale.
We were staying at the DOC campsite beside the beach for one night and took an evening stroll to enjoy a paddle, the views and to find a few caches. This was not so easy to get to, but we would not have known about the stranded whales and their burial site if this cache had not been placed. Luckily we read the description in full before our walk, so knew the cache was not at the given coordinates! A cacher trail showed the way to the themed container - nice one! SL. TFTC.
