I had signed up for The Wild Kiwi 15km trail run around Mt Lion at Whangarei Heads. Didn't really want to drive up from Auckland on the morning of the race so I took Friday off work to spend some time caching in Whangarei. Was more grateful for this decision when the Brynderwyn Hills closure was announced, which would add on an extra half hour to the trip.I wasn't having too much luck with some caches this morning, either due to construction near GZ, too many muggles or just struggling to find the hint items. So it was nice to finally have an area free of construction and muggles and a hint that was useful. I had previously started this multi when I was up in Whangarei for working years ago staying at the nearby Quest. Early one morning I came down for a walk to find the answers. I worked out the final coords, but can't remember if I made it to GZ or not. Either way, I didn't have the coords in my phone so I had to return and find the answers again.Worked out the final and headed over to GZ. It was the wrong time of day to visit and there was no parking nearby. I decided to return later in the day and try again. This time I found a park and headed to where I thought the cache was located. I noted a car right behind me with muggles sitting inside with the door open and hoped they would leave. I tried to search inconspicuously but failed to find the cache. After 10mins of waiting I gave up and left. Finally, it was later again and I thought I'd try one more time before heading to my accommodation. This time there was a security guard beside me and I waited for him to do his checks before heading out into the rain. With no muggles around I could now search the other spot and quickly spied the cache. So glad to finally get this one signed off.
With a morning spare to do some caching I set about trying to knock off some previously solved puzzles and others along the way. Gathering numbers over a couple of visits, I finally had the opportunity to head towards the GZ which was not too far away from my Airbnb. All quite quiet here so I was on my hands and knees to grab the cache. Thanks SaltyCacheNutZ#4864Logged using Cachly.
This was a fun find. This and the local lab made us discover this part of the city.
It was lying on the ground under the bench but we signed it and tucked it away. TFTC and thanks for bringing us to this lovely place
Interesting history-gathering tour. I had to make several return trips to this final location. A parking area that is frequented often by muggles just sitting in their .
Thanks to Yvettetb for coming along for the ride to get this one even though you already had it. Found the cache just on dark.
After a refresh of the log (I was reading old clues and sending us astray) toryn83 and I got on the right path and had a fun time exploring and solving! Thanks SaltyCacheNuts!
Thanks for hiding this cache SaltyCacheNutZ I appreciate it. JDScout flew ️ to Auckland. We've got 7 days in Northland and one of our activities is geocaching. Today is day one. I did all the sums which were very interesting especially the plaque bit.
The other bit was really confusing. My numbers were wrong. I had a hunch it might be where we were at gz so I took a gamble. I checked the logbook and the names matched. Thank goodness. This was the third multi I completed today and the only one where the cache was in place.

After a hint or two from the CO had a chance today to grab this one whilst dodging the rain. Tft(m)c
Just did a little " virtual maintenance" updating the page a bit, as goodness things have changed a bit since publishing bthis in 2008! Some call it progress ... We shall see. I haven't actually stopped to check on the final, but will when I have some spare time in town. Happy Caching!
Good multi except I had a wee bit of trouble at WP2. Had to use the check sum to work out the letters on the building but then the other checksum didn’t work. Turns out I didn’t read one question properly. Checker said it was all good once that was sorted. Quickly found at GZ.
Travelled up from Dunedin for my first Mega event and wanting to sign off some geotour caches as well in Auckland and Northland.
Thanks for the cache, SaltyCacheNutZ

Decided to do this one this morning as shop was not open at 9 like we thought. Had a little recalc at two based on some wrong figures but got there. At gz was an easy find. Thanks for the multi cache
I'm up in Whangarei from Auckland for a CITO yesterday but while I'm at it, a virtual, 2 letterbox caches and an adventure lab and bonus can't be bad either. I also have targeted a multi... this one looked long and interesting.
For a change it hardly rained while I was at GZ. Which was good as it took quite some time to ascertain the required info. I never did find A on the stated co-ords. It ended up being a guess and looking on C:geo for possibilities. Got to WP2, as soon as I saw the pharmacy, I knew I was in the right spot, took me a few minutes to find letters on red brick, there were a few possibilities, but I eventually got there.
At the final, it was very pretty, cache soon in hand and I'm on my way.

Strolled over while the cache- mobile was getting new shoes & swapped out container & log . All good
Was catching up with Riser5 in town today and he suggested doing this multi as we were heading towards the final anyway! A quick find once at GZ. TFTC!
Nice puzzle, nice place, fun to bump around and go to stages finding things. Container needs maintenance and was in bad shape.

Great little puzzle! The red brick building stumped us for a while but once we turned around it made sense! Tftc
Last day of Labour weekend holiday with Merlot58. Enjoyed walking around collecting information required. Got to GZ and a muggle and his dog were sitting at gz. Went for a wander hoping the muggle would have moved, but they were still there. Came back later in the afternoon and made a quick find. Thanks for a nice multi. Fp awarded
Spending the long weekend in the area with Jag50. What a lovely multi this was. We had no issue finding the answers and it certainly was a path to tranquility but we were foiled by a muggle sitting right at GZ. We loitered for awhile but as he had no intention of leaving we carried on our way and came back later in the afternoon and the coast was clear. FP given
Have known where this one was for awhile. Decided to pop in and grab it today to earn points for planetary pursuit and bump me up towards my next milestone. Tftc
#9809. We enjoyed walking the path to tranquility in Whangarei after lunch on New Year’s Day. Interesting and informative multi. The places were all relatively quiet. No issues getting to stage 2. Needed some care in the counting and interpretation here. The checksums and GeoCheck certainly helped. Got to final GZ, where it was all quiet. Looked around for an Eclipse tin to no avail. Then noticed something else that was very cleverly camouflaged. Yes, that was the cache. It was in excellent condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

Very tranquil spot here, so nice and relaxing. Great idea for a multi, cache was found quickly once in the right spot, quite the heart of town especially on a bustling Saturday morning. Happy to secure my streak one early. Thanks for the tranquil multi
I spent quite a while just enjoying the tranquility, until a muggle arrived. 700 milestone for me whop whoop. TFTC.
Managed to basically solve this one in the warmth at home a few days ago, using a bit of local knowledge and some calculated logic, so zipped out today during the suggested time window to have a look. My calculated GZ ended up being not quite right though, so spent a few minutes looking in the wrong area, although it is a very nice tranquil place to visit.
Widened the search area a little to allow for a slightly different solution and it wasn't long before I spotted a signature Salty cache, just ever so slightly smaller than a camo'd eclipse tin..!! Happy to be first to sign the replacement log after 11 months without any finds. TFTC

Ummm, not good when one can't find their own cache! Will replace soon. Meanwhile you can still enjoy the surrounds of GZ & you can PM a message or photo in lieu of log
#10998. We enjoyed our walk. despite the difficulty of working out the building at WP2, and the muggle we had to deal with at GZ. TFTC.
Our first full day in Whangarei and after a big trip yesterday, we were keen to do as little driving as possible, so we decided to head to the city centre and have a stroll around there.
We had to work hard for this multi. The info at the first WP was easily gathered - what interesting plaques, though the dedication one took a bit more of an effort to track down.
At the second WP, we had trouble finding the correct brick building as there were several to choose one. A process of elimination got us to the right one.
Then we arrived at the final to find a woman sitting on the hint item. We sat nearby and waited. And waited. In the end, I sat beside her, told her about geocaching and found the cache. She seemed most interested (most people beat a hasty retreat after giving you an odd look!) and wanted to know more about it. Maybe there'll be a new Whangarei geocacher starting up soon?
Thanks for the enjoyable multi though deserves a little bit more than its current diff rating. TFTC.

Found with Vanquish and Courtney ATG. Good tour around town. And a nice spot to sit and relax on a fine day.
Found it with HappyFaceBandit and Vanquish.nz. You might not find this one if you're sitting around on the job
Found with HappyFacedBandit plus mini and CourteneyATG. What a peaceful spot. TFTC!
certainly a tranquil spot today. really enjoyed this one! think I saw some fellow cachers hoping to make the final grab (when I was busy signing the log). thanks for the cache
Love the location. I have been here years ago and
it was nice to return to retrive this cache. We
found and signed the log right in front of some
picnicing muggles who where oblivious to what we
were doing. TFTC ;D

Enjoyed strolling around my old stomping grounds of Whangarei today. Have been here many times. Love this area - very peaceful indeed. Thanks for putting a cache here
I loved this discovery. It takes a good C.O to show you the essence of what's good about an area and yet often unknown. A beautifully executed cache! I didn't see or hear Rose ( unless she has a very deep voice and facial hair
We (better half, myself, and &Co x3) finished the first stage a few weeks ago. We quickly did the second stage today and well ... we had parked the cachemobile in the nearest parking space to GZ! I always wondered why there were no caches near there. Favourite point earned. TFT(mutli)C.
Found a little while ago, but app seems to have played up with MrsFox_369.

DNF'd this one 1&1/2 years ago so this one was on my 'to do' list on our return back to Whangarei. Headed over to GZ and made the find easily this time around. A lovely spot to visit, although we didn't want to hang around due to a drunk guy walking through the area. Enjoyed this multi, thanks!
We gathered the required information from waypoint one the night before, whilst waiting for our movie to start. Unfortunately, we didn't have quite enough time to head to the second waypoint, so decided to wait until the next day. Made our way this morning, easily found everything we needed, and headed to the final stage. A quick find at the end, but sadly too early to see any of the entertainment mentioned in the description, but still a beautiful place! A very enjoyable multi, +1 favourite point! Thanks for hiding!
It's the first cache I give a favorite point. It really deserves it: we would never find this place if not the cache. Thank you.
And I will remember this one for the rest of my life because of another tracking game I had to come through.
I was so absorbed in trying to get the log out of it that when I got it out I was so happy I left my iPad just above the GZ. And realised that I did it only 10 mins later. But when I got back it was gone.
I went to the police and they recommended to go to the library and go online to track it. So I did and found it .... In the library! The man who got it was trying to find me and give it back. )))

(579) Found it while walking back from the markets. Thanks SaltyCacheNutZ for replacing. Nice to tick that one of my list.
sorry I somehow overlooked/missed/forgot about the DNF's until now.
Replaced with a berocca type tube and have updated hint.

Enjoyed the history lesson at WP1 and got all the required info at WP2 but unfortunately, like the previous logger, no joy at GZ despite searching at what seemed to be the correct place (subsequently confirmed via the Geochecker).
A shame not to get a return for this one given the amount of time spent on it so am hoping it may be sorted in the next few days so we can have another crack at it when we return at the end of the week. TFTC

Up this way for Labour Weekend and thought while we were in town, do this multi. Gathered up all the info at WP1 and made our way over to WP2. Arrived at WP2 to immediately realise we were in the correct place as we were able to gather up all the required info for the final. Our checksum checked out and we did the geochecker on the way to GZ just for good measure.
Arrived at GZ only to find that the cache appears to be missing. We searched both lots of items described in the hint but couldn't find the cache. Abit disappointing we couldn't finalise this one as we enjoyed our walk around. We will have to come back another time to sign the log. Thanks anyways

Managed to be one number out on stage one but with a little help managed stage two and final without any further problems. Thanks for the cache!
checked on cache & picked up little panda TB
Please replace under at rear of seat so cache is not in clear view on approach- Thanks!

An interesting one to do, with the excuse to pause for a cup of coffee to work out co-ordinates. Final cache easily located. TFTC Salty.
This was alot of fun and I have the final location sussed. I'll be back real soon to retrieve the cache as there were young muggles having a booze-up on the seat.
Yay! Mission completed this morning. A nice and simple find in the end. Loved the challenge of reading the pathway and scribbling down the answers, had never payed much attention to the whole path. TFTC
Got to WP #2 and it started to rain. Great, sat on the seat staring at the red brick buildings wondering which one to choose??? After awhile read the hint and shifted position. Ah ha! All became clear. Retreated indoors while deciphering the final WP. Decided to dark and wet to be wandering around so will complete on another day.
4061 What an enjoyable and well set out multi. Thanks for all the work that went into this, it was good fun. TFTC
Had done the hard work - quick find today as coast was clear... TFTC - and good to have a proper look at the 'Path'
Out with flowernz last sunday....did all 3 stages and muggles in area were settled in for the day so couldn't finish the cache. went back today and found it. Have walked over stage 1 so many times without really looking......it was interesting...TFTC & thanks for the stages. It was great fun.
Followed the path - found Tranquility and just our luck - blimmin muggles at GZ On to do some more - came back - still muggles here - wonder if they are living over the road?? Am hoping this will be an easy find once coast is clear.
Suspected where the end of this multi was but went through the stages just to make sure. TFTC =]
Wonderful and Tranquil thanks. Really enjoyed doing this cache.Even had one muggle checking out the first stage with me as he had never noticed what it was. cheers.
Nice day for walk. Easy find.

Found with ease, nice and tranquil this afternoon, working in nearby council buildings.TFTH.
BillnCyndi, thanks for your log!
I was unaware of the ramp construction ( new wheelchair access?)
well done on getting the coords anyway. the view from the other bench should be close enough...
Indeed, the cache was missing. Sorry!
It has now been replaced & hoping this one stays put or will have to sort a new final

A nice little exercise except for the final disappointment.
There is a problem with Stage 2. At GZ there is construction of a ramp going on where, if we are right, the appropriate seat was. However we were able to guess its location, answer the questions and set out for the final stage.
The coordinates we calculated led us to a place which certainly fitted the description and hint. We believe we got them right. Unfortunately there was no cache where we assumed it should be.

Quick find on a hot day in town, it was good getting away from the busy places and ending up somewhere quiet.

replaced zip lock log bag but lid of tin is broken off it's hinges so may need replacing to help keep things waterproof.
Thanks for the reminder (and the new baggie!) ...knew it was getting a bit crusty & been meaning to get back there and then promptly forgot, LOL. Will fix up ASAP
Have been meaning to do this one for a while now, and on Waitangi Day, finally got around to it. We thought we knew the 2nd location, but without the coordinates, we were stuck. A pleasant walk around the gardens, and a nice GZ. TFTC.
I really really liked this one. A nice stroll through town on a quiet morning. TFTC
An enjoyable multi, combining some inner city history with more peaceful surroundings at the end. No problems getting the required info at any of the waypoints. Thanks for the fun.
