I’ve been past here many times and didn’t notice the whirlygigs Smile I figured out the location a few days ago and popped by as it was getting dark. ‘Tied my shoelaces’ a few times while extracting and signing the log. Fun find thank you Smile

24-Feb-22
Got it! Thanks

23-Feb-22
Finally I have stopped to collect this cache after doing the necessary work to locate it many years ago. Spotted the container from a distance just because I walked to it that way. Lovely and dry and all good. Favourite given for the new learning involved to find the case. TFTC Yeetrees.

23-Feb-22
Spotted from a distance. Solved a wee while ago. Late lunch in the nearby park. Nice to finally be able to grab this one.

28-Jan-22
Somehow managed to forget to log this find so am writing the entry a month and a half later. Actually had to return to GZ to find out what date we were previously here! No problems solving the "puzzle" and a nice easy find once the muggles had cleared on a sunny summer's day

25-Nov-21
A beautifully calm and temperate evening for a stroll around Avalon park, especially when I want to get a cache for today, and I have a solved puzzle available for me to find.

I could see the cache (as I had a fair idea of what I was looking for) on my approach to GZ. In spite of the lovely evening, there was no-one else around within several hundred metres of me so I was able to effect a quick retrieval, sign in the log, and then replace without any issues at all.

No wind today for the Whirligigs, but thanks for the cache anyway Smile

16-Oct-21
Neat hide - the force is strong with this one! Many thanks

25-Sep-21
This one completed the trio of solved puzzle finds in the park area, Found in the second place I tried. Now to head up the hill for some more exercise and finds. TFTC

24-Sep-21
A good find on a sunny afternoon. A very pleasant walk in Lower Hutt. All good in cache, tftc!

25-Jun-21
After doing some work at my new house I still have a bunch of caches to find today. Five. Again. Thankfully that is it for those rediculous quantities for a while.
Anywho, Amongst that lot I needed a puzzle cache so I came out here. A nice easy find. Cute windmills, milling lots of wind tonight, it is quite blowey.

12-Apr-21
Fantastic extended caching weekend with evilC! I noticed the likely location, and yes! Thanks for a fun mystery! TFTC!!

22-Aug-20
Out with Talla64 finding Wonders of the World; a quick find here earned us a Statue of Zeus at Olympia souvenir. Interesting structures. Thanks for placing a cache here Yeetrees.

22-Aug-20
Out and about with Flowerydaze looking for 7 wonders of the world. This one did very nicely for one of them. TFTC Yeetrees

24-May-20
Out collecting puzzles with the geokids today and mr 7 spotted this as we hit GZ, looks like someone thought they had FTF, I wonder if they could figure out which cache they signed lol. Thanks for the cache

Wellington trip! Caching with Nosynel. CO is kindly allowing us to log as cache was gone and the area is under repair. Thanks, Yeetrees. Much appreciated as us Mainlanders don't get out this way often.

I posted a photo to the COof the reason the geocache was missing, he kindly let us log the find.
The geocaching binge with Jude-E started on Wednesday night. We stayed another night with a friend. Lucky it was a weekend day so Ethness could join us. This was one of them.
Thanks Yeetrees for placing this geocache it is find 8438 for me.

======== NZ Mega 2020 ========
Planning for the NZ Mega 2020 event is well underway. It will be held in Auckland over Labour Weekend, 23 to 26 October 2020

28-Feb-20
Wellington trip! Caching with Nosynel. Today a digger is on site and he seems to be digging out the base of one of the whilygigs. Only one left in the middle. No sign of a cache.

11-May-19
Found myself competing for access with the local lawn mowing contractor Luckily the cache is bigger than I expected so easy to spot and quick to retrieve Thanks Yeetrees for the puzzle and cache

20-Apr-19
Looked at this one this morning as I knew I'd be out this way, and recognised where I needed to look. No trouble spotting the hide. TFTC

30-Jan-19
# 1277 I quickly realised where this one may be hiding as i have passed by many times. This was actually my third visit to try and grab this one as I had been thwarted by muggles on those previous occasions. Today it was all clear and as this is a park and grab I parked the car, whipped out the cell phone and loitered around with urgency. Was not expecting such a big container as I had preconceived ideas of what I would find. In any case the location of the container avoided me having to bend over and look too dodgy.all good inside here today. Thanks Yeetrees for this one with the creative name.

21-Nov-18
Nice quick find. Just had to wait for a lull in traffic to retrieve discretely! Tftc

I thought I'd found this one already, but no, there was a sad, blue face on the map. Then I remembered that the cache was missing last time due to the objects being painted. So I stopped by on my way to lower hutt today and filled the log.
TFTC, cheers

Day 2 of the Mega, and time to pick up as many of the caches on our solved puzzle list as we have time for. We had sorted out the Final coords for this puzzle a few years ago, and had an easy find at GZ, thanks.

21-Oct-18
Richard was keen for this Puzzle cache as the CO's name began with a desired letter of the alphabet. We navigsted our way to G Z and found a close parking spot and the cache was soon in hand. All good here and replaced as found. T F T C Yeetrees.

We are heading slowly back towards WENZ HQ for the prize giving and last event of a hectic, but pleasing weekend. Grabbing a couple more as we go, targetted caches all.

Another phase of caching for this caching day. Having been up the hill loop above Kevin Anderson, and then up the hill again for the event and Challenge cache we decided against the discussed ACOIAF series which would have involved a third ascent/descent combo. So we decided to head out on the Coast Road and grab some puzzle caches that had been solved in the weeks preceeding. I'd solved a few of the film onbes, but had run out of time for the music ones. Luckily we had time on the ferry ride over and Ricardinh managed a few of those to enable a 13 Puzzle cache rampage down the road. All were found and good parking at all except one - The Power (which incidentally is my least favourite of the songs in the series)
T F T P and Cs bigcheesenz.

We started our day by making a pilgrimage out to NZ's oldest existing cache placement, though we came out prior to the hordes to make a good start and ghet the most from our day. Much success here, all target caches made and all good. A nice loop walk around the Tana Umaga track too.
It's day 3 of the Mega weekend. Today has 3 events planned, a couple for walks on the agenda, some D/Ts I want for my second lap of the track and some other random targets. A decen tamount of finds and some great scenery sighted - thanks to the COs for that. Anoter good day in the region.
The big day(s) has/have arrived. It's MEGA weekend in Wellington region and the culmination of lots of hard work by the organising committee. Also, not to be forgotten, are the caches of the local, and not so local COs, which help the game to continue and enable the enjoyment of others.
The trip has been planned for a while now and the Blenheim contingent of Ricardinho.nz and myself are coming over early on Friday morning on the Bluebridge ferry (after an early morning (non-) 'event') before returning on same mode of transport on Monday lunchtime.
We didn't manage much caching on the Friday but made up for that with 3 good days after and over 100 finds for the weekend to boost my Wellington region finds past my Nelson region ones and even giving my previously prolific Auckland numbers a 'nudge'.
Over the weekend there was plenty of socialising, sharing of ideas, opinions and interesting conversations and a podium spot for the Geosaders quiz team. Allied up with some new caching friends and remet several other rarely seen friends from other areas of the country. A good weekend all around and even the weather played nicely with a sunny outlook each of the days, without it being too warm and uncomfortable. Plenty of events attended, pleasant walks experienced, a couple of bike rides along the Hutt River as well as a smattering of GROET caches for which we were GLAD.
Thanks to all of the cache owners for their hides and listings and looking forward to the next time I visit the area to continue the enjoyment.

A quick and easy find. Puzzle solved back home in Chch Thanks

Found on a day spent driving up and down the Hutt Valley, finding a cache or two.

Thanks to all CO's for placing and maintaining their caches. Cheers

21-Oct-18
Last find of the day. One of my goals was to get a Yeetrees puzzle at some stage to help toward a Chch challenge cache, and with a few pre-solved from home it was this that we passed by first. A surprisingly quick find, was expecting something else. Thanks Yeetrees.

Mega Sunday, and our goals were the Kevin Anderson oldie and the others in that area, then the event out the back of Naenae with the collection of a number of caches up those tracks. After that, just whatever takes our fancy really. Ended up being the coast road out at Wainuiomata, then some earthcaches and others around Petone before heading back to the event for the closing. Thanks all COs for placing and maintaining the caches.

Nice wee puzzle and hide

20-Oct-18
Find number 4247. Attending the Mega. Teamed up with eyespyben and ABCDF4 today to try and get 11 cache types in a day. This done it was off around the area for others trying to clear some solved puzzles and anything else between. Solved some time ago in preparation. The muggles in the area were not interested in us sitting and signing. Thank you for the placement.

19-Oct-18
Out and about with kotuku SI and purdiepurdie having mega fun. A cool place for a cache thanks for placing and maintaining it

19-Oct-18
TFTC. In the big smoke for the Mega. Out with kotutuSI and warfi to have a bit of a play before heading to the fish and chip event this evening.
Due to crash and shutdown of SH1 we amended our plans and headed towards the Hutt to pickup a few solved puzzles.
I enjoyed all of these puzzles.
Thanks Yeetrees for placing the cache.

19-Oct-18
Day #0 of the Mega, caching with purdiepurdie & warfi on our way to the evening event.
This was a quick find after a short walk; there was a distressing amount of loose plastic rubbish from a nearby overflowing rubbish bin, with seagulls trying to eat it. We did our best to clean it up.
Thank you for the puzzle and the cache, Yeetrees.

13-May-18
Have noticed these before when in the area so it was easy to figure out, kids grabbed this on our way to a rock and mineral club event nearby

21-Apr-18
Milli found it!

10-Apr-18
Quick find with the assistance of a previous finder.
Trust us to be at the final location in peak hour traffic!

05-Feb-18
I solved this by reading previous logs and some judicious Googling. Arrived at GZ, but bogan muggles were parked right next to it and didn't look like they were leaving any time soon. We headed off to gather some other caches, then returned a few hours later. Damn, more muggles! Why do people park on the side of the road for ages?

We waited a few minutes and the coast cleared. Barefootguru stood guard while I fossicked, eventually finding the cache just as yet more muggles parked adjacent. Gah! Some stealth was required to sign and replace the cache undetected. Thanks Yeetrees!

19-Nov-17
replace cache and logbook

12-Nov-17
Is this really the first Yeetrees cache? Who does a mystery cache as their first one?! Whatever, that seems almost as significant as GC46. I'm not sure how this is supposed to be solved without the hint and I was staggered to find that GZ was just metres from where I turn off on my commute every day (I would see them if I were looking that way) yet I had not consciously registered that these things were here. I stopped in the convenient car park for what turned out to be a park and grab. The cache was spotted on approach and I swooped in to get it without having to loiter and search. Things got a bit muggly when I tried returning it and I had to stall for a couple of minutes which I did by checking out the informative plaque. Thanks for opening my eyes. Smile

17-Oct-17
I had a few unfound solved puzzle caches in my to-do pile for Wellington. I decided to take the scenic route from Plimmerton to this cache which meant travelling on roads not normally frequented by me.[:o)]Red Face I passed a few trads on the way to this one.

Cheers for the cache.

30-Aug-17
Solved this the other day and decided to pick it up today. All quiet around gz except overly amorous ducks. Spring must be just around the corner. All in order. TFTC

18-Jun-17
#326. I used to go to Naenae when my late Mum lived there, but don't remember driving past the whirlygigs, of which there are only two now. The stump of the third remains. Nice easy park & grab, having solved the mystery a few weeks ago. Now to tackle the Welly Whirlies! Tftc, Yeetrees.

04-Jun-17
Quick find after spinning wheels Googling. Amused to see CO's puzzles have been obnubilated since beginning Cheers Yeetrees.

16-Dec-16
Our first puzzle find! All in good order, one of the whirligigs has been removed for maintenance though. tftc.

06-Dec-16
Cache is still in place

05-Dec-16
Does this exist anymore?

30-Sep-16
#2764. Needed three caches today so headed over to the Hutt Valley after dinner. Since this one was just around the corner from the Coach Lane cache Wink I thought I would pick this one up as well while I was over here. Pulled up nearby and waited for three muggles to walk past then over to the whirligigs. Which one? Eeny meeny miny... well actually it was meeny (but not a meany). Nice quick find. Just dark enough to be obscure by the road but light enough to see the log and sign without a torch. Replaced cache as found. Hard to believe this was your No.1. Been a few put out since this date. Thanks for the cache Chris.

27-Aug-16
I have been saving this one for today.

On Saturday mornings I take my kids to Swimming Club which starts at 6.50 am. Today we were all ready way too early, so we went and found this one on the way. We were here at 6.30 am.

Cache is all good and dry, and back exactly where we found it.

Thank you

Cherrys Rule

22-Aug-16
I first looked at this when I was tackling other Whirligigs caches in Evans Bay, but I had no idea where to start. Today I was on my way to another cache and spotted what I needed, so it immediately became a 'must stop'. TFTC

31-Jul-16
A quick find and my first puzzle cache! Thanks for the cache Smile

13-Jun-16
Replace cache and logbook all good to go please read hide well.

I knew the structures from the name and confirmed from puzzle clue. Studied the structures closely for the cache but no luck today. I must be going blind as earlier logs indicate an easy find.
I did notice that the stems had been painted recently and wondered if the cache may have been removed? I'll return for another go when passing next.
Cheers

23-Aug-15
I knew where this one was for quite some time. I even saw it in place when we did city safari a few months ago. This morning stopped off before picking up daughter from sleepover. All quiet and hardly and muggles around. Then I had a dreadful thought that I didn't have a pen. After a search of my bag found one. SL. Cache all in order. Tftc

16-Apr-15
Quick find on way to work. Always admire these.TFTC

08-Apr-15
Pretty sure I knew where this one was so in area and walked over to game zone. Relatively quiet today given the weather but still plenty of traffic to contend with. Cache in first place I looked. Only number 4 to work out now. Grabbed the TB that was left by last finder. Thanks for the cache.

12-Mar-15
I also found late at nite thankfully I figured out puzzle and hide was pretty easy because I left all gps devices at home. Managed to squeeze in the happiness is... Tb (which I think is pretty appropriate considering its location) hope that's ok sorry as didn't have ph and description to check if it was a log only. Tftc awesome hiding spot. Gets a favourite from me.

16-Sep-14

10-Jun-14
Day 7 or the 10 in 10 challenge. Crapped out on an earlier cache which wasn't there so my saviour imacache suggested this one as a quick and easy grab. It was as promised but we had to wait whilst the traffic hid us from view of watching muggles...inconspicuous I ain't lol.. tftc. Onto day 8.

10-Jun-14
Popped out for a little late night caching to help Br'er Bear keep up with the 10 in 10 day Mystery cache challenge. Figured I knew where this one was and was proved correct.

The road workers across the road required a little subterfuge to replace the cache unnoticed, but thankfully a large truck turned up to block their view at the right time.

Thanks for the cache - I love the Whirligigs.

14-May-14

A quick find on a dot day. Goodie. Not sure why it's taken us this amount of time to get around to this one. Puzzlephobia perhaps?
Cache in order, signed the log and then safely re-hidden, just as found.

Came for a recce previous day, as i pass the site on my way to work daily ... could see the cache clearly, but couldn't approach due to two 'Waste Management' drivers sitting in their truck having breakfast looking straight at me! Razz
Took the junior cachers with me today, and snagged it during a break in traffic.

Looked for this one late last year with no luck, turns out I was looking in exactly the right place. A quick find today, and there were very few muggles about as the weather was so dreadful. Have finally completed all four caches in this enjoyable series. TFTC!
