Traveling around with Junni1 by a Campervan. Stopped here for a few caches. Thanks for the cache!
Mr Dragon and I visited the goldmine at Kalgourlie when we went to Australia. A mine so big it can be seen from space!! This one was much smaller but we enjoyed our visit. Thank you x

After many, many hours of flying, a passage through China on the way there and through the United States of America on the way back, we will finally arrive in Christchurch which will be the starting point of our journey. We will enjoy the beaches of the Pacific Ocean and we will go back towards the North Island via State Highway 1. To combine business with pleasure, we will take regular breaks and small detours according to the caches that seem the most accessible to us.With a little more than 3500 km in 20 days, we will have discovered many facets of this island which is soothing. We will have to come back because there are so many places that we have not done . In broad strokes, the path will go from Christchurch to the Kaikoura Peninsula then towards Picton for the crossing to Wellington.New island, new road, and by State Highway 2 we go towards Hastings and Napier. We will leave the seaside for several days to go to Tongariro and Taupo. We will continue north towards Rotorua and Hamilton (without forgetting a detour via Hobbiton ) A detour to the Coromandel Peninsula and finally the almost north of the island with Whangarei and Waitangi to learn the history of this country. There will only be a few days left to spend towards Auckland and its suburbs before taking the plane back to the grayness of our European autumn. The majority of the boxes will be found, we have abandoned those where our English was lacking and where we could not understand the clue. Thanks to all the owners who brightened up our path, who took us to incredible places (that's also geocaching)In short, we had a great vacation, saw beautiful places that simply ask us to come back. We learned a lot about the history of this country and its traditions, it's a great motivation for our destinations.-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --Petit log en retard mais un peu plus complet maintenant que nous sommes rentrs la maison. What a sight! We visited here before heading to the gold discovery center. Some interesting info. Thanks
Cool location and some interesting information. That is one big CAT.Answers sent. TFTC.
I was passing through Waihi today, en route to Hamilton via Paeroa. Stopping for this earthcache was a requirement! At GZ, I soon found the info, and posted to the CO. I also took some time to take in the mine pit. An amazing sight, if somewhat unsettling. Tftc!
Up from the deep South for a wedding at Hobbiton and that done are now heading home wards. This trip was nicely timed to make good progress in the Cosmic Quest. We headed here to pick up the Virtual for one of my Missing Months. So of course we got the trifecta of virtual, earth and trad here. Wish we had time to do the loop walk, there is so much else to see - but with a mid morning flight ex Auckland tomorrow we couldn't stick around. Answers sent. A rare photo of all of me attached thanks to muggly hubby. Thanks for the cache J 'N' K# 3891 29 July 2024 12:58 pm

Thanks J 'N' K for the cache. Its #1959 for us. We found your cache on Thursday 23 May 2024. Great walk around the mine pit with lots of caches along the way
Collected all the requirements for this EC and sent it off to the CO. We are here today with Gernita. Very busy here at the lookout area today
Thanks for pointing out the interesting information about the Caterpillar.TFTC
Great place with a lot of interesting information about the big machine used in the mine.TFTC
Today continued my week long solo adventure on the North Island from Atlanta in the U.S. after putting GeoJayne on a plane yesterday. She made the south island visit incredible, but I was doing my best to find my way around the north island one geocache at a time. I found almost all the caches I looked for and saw some pretty cool spots along the way. I love when that happens!I had no idea what to expect when I got here although there's a large quarry near where I live in Georgia that I have visited several times. It's much easier to see into this one, though. The answers have been sent to the CO.Thank you for the smiley and the fun!
Im staying in Waihi for the weekend for some leisurely bike riding and walking in some new areas.Having visited the tower last night I resolved to ride the loop today before heading home. Nothing too tricky and some caches en route.Well, in addition to the view, there was an unexpected feature here! Big boys' toys!I had a good read up, sent my answers to the CO and am now logging - more knowledgeable than I was before. Thanks J'N'K#5116
EnglishWe are six Norwegians on a trip to Australia and New Zealand. We arrived in Melbourne at the beginning of February and are traveling home after the mega event in Adelaide. We travel by car and Geocaching helps us discover many nice places and often helps to decide where we choose the route between our goals which are: Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, Dunedeen, and Adelaide. This is one of the caches we found on the trip and we thank you for showing us this place. We who are on tour have the nicknames: MrVonsr, ingsve, EllenSch and TeamEika. And signs the logs with N4.Great thanks for showing us and doing our tour wonderful NorwegianVi er seks nordmenn p tur i Australia og New Zealand. As a once in a lifetime holiday, this year we are traveling for 7 weeks to Vietnam, Bali, Australia and New Zealand. In Australia we meet Ellen Sch and MrVon sr and Ingsve to visit these last two countries, so here we cache together. We signed the log with N4. Now we have solved many caches so we have a large number of solved coordinates. But we are interested in all types of caches, so if you receive a log, it means that we have visited your cache. We haven't quite decided where we're going, but we'll probably let the weather decide for us. We want warmth because in Norway it is now freezing. We will stay for about 2 weeks in Australia and 2 weeks in New Zealand and we will end the trip with the Mega event in Adeleide on 29 February. So thank you very much to all of you who make it possible for us to travel around finding caches. On March 6, we set course for Norway again. There are extremely nice people everywhere and we are welcomed, we thank you very much. Thanks to our cache friends for good company on the trip.
Cachehilsen fra Ellen Sch, NorgeMe and MrVon sr have come down to Australia and New Zealand, -an old dream has finally come to an end. Team Eika and Ingsve have also traveled with us on this trip.We have been traveling cross-country for a month, and the goal is to end up in Adeleide and mega-event on the leap year. We have especially looked for old caches, to fill jasmer'n, for a couple of pieces, and for the other two of us who have started to think about reviewing more. The vast majority of them showed up at their places, sometimes we had to search a bit, but we were usually lucky in the end. There were also some DNFs.We have mostly logged in with the common nickname N4 (ingsve, Von sr. TeamEika and Ellen Sch), but our own nicknames are also used.A big thank you to all you CO's for laying out and maintaining your caches. Without their work, we would never have been able to make a living with this hobby.Always nice to have a new smiley face on the map.Cache greetings from Ellen Sch, Norway
Out on a geocache trip with Ellen Sch , Team Eika and ingsve on holiday in New Zealand, and today it was this area that was prioritized If nothing else is mentioned, we found the cache at good coordinates and it was fine To save space in the log, we often log in with the nickname N4 Many thanks to CO for laying out and maintaining this Greetings from Norway TFTCUte p en geocache-tur med Ellen Sch,Team Eika og ingsve p ferien i New Zealand og idag var det dette omrdet som ble prioritert Hvis ikke annet er nevnt s fant vi cachen p gode koordinater og den hadde det braFor spare plass i loggen logger vi ofte med nick N4Tusen takk til Til CO for utlegg og vedlikehold av denne Hilsen fra Norge TFTC

(# 8673) As it is a long weekend in Wellington I took a caching jaunt up to the Waikato and Bay of Plenty with TwigNZ, NZ_B and Itchyfeet2020. Stayed in Tokoroa which was the centre of the caching universe for this weekend. Day 1 was going to Waihi and Te Aroha. I visited the mine for the first time. It has always been on my wish list. A good sized hole.An message has been sent to the CO with the required answers. Thanks J 'N' K for bringing me here.
Such an amazing place to visit and learn about the history of this area, especially this mine. I last visited here about 50 years ago and I am not sure why we didnt come and visit the mine. Unfortunately we didnt have time to walk around the room as it started to rain and we decided to go back to the car to keep dry.I have attached two photos, one with me with the big truck as it really fascinated me (I wouldnt like to buy the tyres!!) and one of me with the mine behind me. Somehow I missed that the photo was to be with the cog, so I hope mine these ones are acceptable to the COs.Day 1 of The Wellington Anniversary Weekend tour with Mr-Mcgoo, Itchyfeet2020, TwigNZ. We are targeting specific caches -oldies, puzzles we have solved and ones with a D/T of 2.5+/2.5+ for the [GC30AD8](http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC30AD8) DGSC Challenge (West Coast) challenge. Of course, there will be days of laughter, no doubt at my expense .During our time here, all found caches were signed as MINT, regardless of whether 2, 3 or all 4 of us have found it previously, or with individual names for Challenge Caches according to whomever was claiming the find.Kia ora rawa atu for the cache J 'N' K.

After years on our bucket list and three cancellations due to Covid, we are thrilled to finally be here. Following several cruises we flew from Sydney, Australia to Wellington, New Zealand to begin our next adventure. Picked up our rental vehicle and will be driving, exploring, hiking, and caching both islands for 3.5 weeks. What a really neat area to view while picking up some smiliies. We gathered the needed information and snapped some photos before grabbing the nearby virtual and traditional caches. Our answers have been sent via the message system and we appreciate the CO developing this geological lesson that definitely earns a favorite point from us.Thanks for adding to our adventure today, Nukeworker and Racquetball Girl, Arkansas, USA
We had a group visit to this interesting place, so there was no time to look for all of the caches. TFTC

Pleasant stop over on our way back to Auckland in preparation to fly back to Aust tomorrow. Impressive hole in the ground, shame ore samples weren't being handed out. Did visit the Mine center back in town and thought about a tour until a herd of muggles arrived on the scene, so decided to get in the car and head north.
Appreciate the history and geology lesson at this pleasant town J'N'K.

Another day in the land of the long white cloud. TeamARF, JACSTeam and I had a fab day collecting oldies and challenges. Made our way back north to Auckland and last day grabbing a few more challenges before departing. Thanks to all COs for a fab range of caches and the adventures. Answers to this awC sent by JACS on behalf of the team. Cheers. Loved this wee town
Day 10: We ( TeamARF, Gcoven and myself) have travelled over from Brisbane, Australia to have a visit since we were not able to make it to the Mega. We have spent some considerable time solving puzzles and making plans in preparation. We have a gigantic list of old, interesting, highly favourited, challenges and a few Geo-arts to try and collect over the next 10 days. There is a good chance we got lazy with our logging, or space saving depending on the log size and do some joint variation of our initials - TGJ, GJT or JGT.
Today the plan is to work on collecting things of our list - some of the very old caches in the area as we head back north towards Auckland. We are also picking up a few challenges (will check qualifying once home).
Please excuse the generic log, just have extremely little data to try and survive on it for the 10 days. However, you can be assured that if we have found your cache it was special to us for some reason or in a special location - so thank you for contributing to our holiday.
I will edit logs when back in Brisbane to add more details to those that need more details and of course I will be adding favourite points as I go along.

Nice view on the area, interesting information. The mine is not operating in the open pit since the landslip of 2016, so not really busy up here. Answers sent to CO, thanks for sharing the story of the place!
On our way to the south we made a quick stop at this interesting little mine. All answers were easy to find.Danke fr den Cache! Thanks for the cache!????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

spent 6 great weeks in New Zealand with my The start was a bit bumpy (Cyclone Gabrielle) but then it got better and better. We travelled to both islands and discovered a lot. We photographed and filmed many beautiful things, but most of it stayed in our hearts.
Almost everywhere we stopped, a cache was already waiting for us. Most of the caches are well maintained and easy to find.
With mostly very nice weather, we saw a lot of this impressive island. In many places, caches were waiting for us, which were sometimes easy and sometimes difficult to find. This cache was also included and was successfully signed
We puzzled a lot in advance and the tours were well prepared
So this box was also well found.
now I have another on my personal cache card.
many thanks to [^] **J 'N' K** [^] for the effort and the cache and greetings from Germany

Found a few caches today between Paeroa and our overnight stop at Waihi Found a few caches today between Paeroa and our overnight stop at Waihi Beach, most of them in and around Waihi. Met up with my sister and her husband to go after the three Ad Labs here today. Once that was all done and dusted, Mrs tbird and I picked up three more caches, all in the vicinity of the lookout at this point. Collected the answers for this one at the site, apart from one which I needed to Google. Couldn’t find it on any of the information boards at or near GZ! #5918. TFTC.
Second last day of our New Zealand trip. Heading for Coromandel, we decided to stop at Martha’s Mine in Waihi. It attracted our attention on the map, as the pit appeared as black hole.
Very impressive and reminded us from similar mines in Western Australia. While searching the answers for the Earthcache, we did also a part of the rim walkway.
Thank you for showing us this place

The first time we came through Waihi we had no idea about the mine, so it was mind blowing when we did come up to the lookout and saw the biggest hole we'd ever seen. Who expected to find that so close to the town!
Thank you for all the information in this earthcache, it has been a very interesting read. And a great excuse to peer down into the centre of the earth..................well almost!

During our way to south, we stopped at this amazing place - The Martha Goldmine. What a great view. Unfortunately we hadn't enough time to turn around the whole mine, but we were able to find the some Traditionals, the EC and last but not least the Virtual.

My awesome grandies starting out on the Pitt rim walk today. Amazing place thx
I have decided that I am officially useless at writing up earthcache finds. We are good at gathering the information and photos and enjoying where earthcaches take us and learning the lessons there are to learn, but that is about as far as I often get with them.
Then a long time after the fact I look through our photos and or our note books and find a heap of information that I forgot to do anything with.
Thank goodness I found the photos we took here so that I could finally get the answers sent to the CO.
This was our second trip here and it was just as incredible this time around. Probably more incredible as we read the information boards with more enthusiasm this time.
Thanks for placing this cache here and for encouraging us to look at the area in more detail than we would have otherwise

A great find. Came past here recently with the grandchildren who didn’t have time to find the answers , so came back here today to log this cache. Thanks
Wow, what a great place for an earthcache this is, as the views out over the Martha mine were amazing and this lookout really gave me a more insightful perception of how deep this mine really is :O I enjoyed reading all the information about the dump truck and it's interesting history

Last day of the long weekend and it's ANZAC Day! To pay respect, I didn't find any caches until after 1:00pm but once the clock struck 1 it was GO, GO GO!!! Had an awesome afternoon walking all over Waihi with the highlight being the pit rim walkway around the Martha mine. All in all, I found a total of 28 caches including 19 trads, 5 AL's, 2 Virtuals, 1 Earth cache and 1 Mystery... Thanks very much to all CO's for their hides

Amazing old mind site!
Was just admiring how far down it is to the bottom from the viewpoint. If it wasn’t for the heavy metals in the area, this quarry filled with water would make an excellent dive training spot.
Unfortunately it’s too toxic and pretty cool to look at without water in it.
Found most of the answers on the signs at the site, but I couldn’t find the answer for one of them until I reread the information and then I saw it there.
Thanks for all the info and the cool place!

This was an interesting earthcache to complete. Wow - the extent of this mine is incredible. We didn't have the time for the full loop today but what we did see and read about was mind boggling. I obviously was a bit distracted by the whole place and didn't read the requirements properly and only took a phot of the cog without the rest but in one photo I captured Paddle Chick reading the sign so that will have to suffice. Braved the howling gales to grab a few caches, then headed back to the car as tree branches started crashing down onto the track! And they say our home town of Wellington is windy... Hahahahaha. TFTC.
On holiday, leaving Bowentown for Pauanui today.
We headed up here to find the Virtual and ended up doing this Earthcache as well.
Ms M loved the dump truck. Her name was on the number plate
Couldn't find an answer to Q1 and wondered if a sign was missing.
Back home a month later and Wiki has been my source. Answers sent.
Our first view of the mine. It's rather LARGE. That is a long way down. Don't know if we'd be too keen living along the mines periphery.
Thanks for an enjoyable EC JnK

Great to come and walk around the rim with Big Sis, learning lots of history on the way.
Heading back to the big smoke after a weekend in the BOP. Stopped in town for lunch and a wander. Blown away by the size of the hole. We ended up learning quite about the Martha Gold mines history thanks to this Earthcache and the Victoria Battery WhereYouGo. Email sent. We took a number of photo's at GZ, unfortunately just not a single one of the large gear cog. TFTEarthcahe
Had a great time completing the caches around the Rim Pitt Walk with my brother in law and 4 year old boy today. Mr 4 year old loved seeing the big dump truck and the big “hole” in the ground . The 45 min guideline for the walk took us triple the time getting caches along the way and with mr 4 year old. Was a very very windy day but the rain managed to hold off.
Andrew (4 year old) also loved see the cool Pump House.
Missed a few caches near the end as little legs started getting tired and hungry so we will be back another day to complete those.
All in all a great day!

Visited on my TMGT tour a couple of months ago and finally catching up on logging this one. Answers sent. Pretty impressive site - cant think of a site more appropriate for a earth cache really Photo attached. Great spot. TFTC.
Having been in Hamilton for the night it's now time to make my way (the long way) back towards Wellington. Stopped here for a look at the big hole in the ground. Nice!

I was here a few months ago and was flicking through my photos when I realised I had got the information but not logged the cache, time to rectify this!
I really enjoyed my visit here, couldn't really get over the size of the mone and it's location to town. Wished I had more time to actually do the walk around the rim but needed to carry on with my travels. Answers sent to CO, photo included.

Logging with permission. Swung past here at the start of the year, admired the scenery, and took photographs, before dashing off to continue chasing GeoTour caches, In my usual fashion, got home, and promptly forgot all about it, and more importantly, where I'd left my notes.
Eventually found enough on a photograph I had to make sense, and sent that through. I had forgotten how impressive the earthworks are here - thank you for setting a cache here to remind me.

North Island Campervan trip Day 5
After the fantastic holiday I had a few months ago traveling around the South Island, making the most of one of those incredibly cheap campervan deals available at the time, I figured it was worth taking a week off work before the stresses of the usual holiday period to enjoy some of the delights to be found around the top of the North Island.
This would be a great chance for me to seek out some targeted caches such as the TMGT ones as well as some that would help me with my Jasmer grid, missing minutes (for a couple of challenge caches I'm working on) and any other caches that caught my eye.
Having spent last night in Whitianga, I was intending to head back down the Coromandel and make my way over to Tauranga by this evening. I wasn't sure how much help I was going to get from the weather, so made an early start to try to get as much caching done as possible before the rain hit!
Another cache done in and out of passing rainfalls. Such a shame that the lousy weather put a bit of a damper on my plan to do the rim walk, but at least I was able to visit GZ to do this Earthcache, and take a quick look at the dump truck too.
Thanks for setting this cache up. That is one big-arse hole in the ground!

Answers for this informative Earthcache have been sent and logging in anticipation of acceptance. Another good EC from team J&K and long may that continue. T F T C
On the way back home and after not walking around the mount earlier I was up for a walk so the Waihi mine rim was a handy replacement and with plenty of variety.
A road trip with my daughter today. She wanted to go to Tauranga, and I was on leave for the most part of this week so this was a mutually enjoyed visit to the BOP for the first time in a few years. We left at just after 6 to beat the traffic and after a long hold-up at Maccas we were soon on our way. A stop off in Paeroa on the way to the Mount (which was unexpectedly, and frustratingly, closed) and then a few TMGTs and the Waihi mine loop walk and all was good. Back in good time and late enough to avoid the traffic snarl ups.

School holidays so heading north to Auckland. Had time to stop for a few caches in Waihi. Have been here many times and always amazed by the size and numbers of everything. Incredible to think that one day the hole may be filled up with water! Thanks for a great cache.
Great to get out and about today. A good chance to come up here to clear latest rim caches. I have been meaning to do this one for ages. Answers sent.
I am logging using the Cachly app template so please excuse generic logging along the way. It’s just my way of keeping track, but I do genuinely thank each and every one of you cache owners for taking the time and energy to place these cache. Many Thanks for bringing me here. Cheers.
