Finally get to log the caches we have done over the summer break. This was our new years day walk, second one for the day and point where we returned to the car. With squirrel and kitten. TFTC. Sherlock Hood.
Progressed to the second cache after finding the first. Gave some pukeko’s an inadvertent fright on the way (I don’t think they’re used to human company), leapt over a fallen tree and shortly after arrived at the lake - mill pond today and stunning. Grabbed the cache soon after, the container has a broken bottom but the contents are dry. Thanks for placing these caches!
Beautiful lake- nice spot. Easy find and yes container very broken but bag etc fine. Thanks
Teamed up with Geckoh this weekend to climb to the top of Ruapehu to get the Tippy Top cache. Nice quick find here today after climbing Ruapehu. Ran back down hill to the car tftc
With Gap (of Fap and Gap)… On a road trip caching our way through Taupo, Turangi and Tongariro. This roadie has been a few weeks in the making, and marks our first real mission in a little while.
The walk from Dry Lake to Lake Rotokura took a handful of minutes and was worth the walking effort. We found the cache first - As others have stated, the container is toast, but the contents are well bagged and in good shape… Before departure, we had a look at the lake and its surrounds. Stunning! Thanks makra and TFTC.

Thanks makra for the cache. It’s #1553 for us. We found your cache on 31 December 2021. Quick grab while walking around the lake
makra, your geocache Lakes Gemini Too (Central Plateau) (GC1GQWB) needs urgent maintenance. We visited it on 31 December 2021 and the Sustema outer container has been smashed.
Replacement needed.

Unexpectedly beautiful walk with a muddy but largish lake at the end. I love the vista and although I didn't have time to walk right around this lake it was worth just getting to this point. I backtracked a little to find a suitable place to take a photo and love the spot I found. Great hearing the birds in the trees as well as the ducks on the lake.
Deserves a Fav.

Found after a beautiful walk around the lake. Container is broken but inside is dry. TFTC
The second lake was even more beautiful! I was overthinking access here and almost ended up taking a dip. Out of all things, swimming is not prohibited, and I was wondering if people do. TFTC!!
What a gem of a spot! Found the cache then backtracked to where there was a superb vista of lake, mountain and sky. Spent a few minutes lapping up the views before returning to the cool of the bush. TFTC. Would have never stopped here had it not been for these caches. Container is in need of replacement (smashed side) but the logbook was fine thanks to several zip lock bags.
Well that was a nice walk around the lake. Got some scratches on the legs due to sharps on the slightly overgrown trail. Was looking for a good view and it was back at gz going the other way.
A picnic break in the parking lot before going for a walk.
Nice place.

I thoroughly enjoyed my walk to this cache. So peaceful, and such a beautiful area. No troubles with the hide.

After finding the other cache, it would be rude not to continue onto the next lake. Its evening, and the water is churned. So no images of the mountains reflecting on the lake today.
Because of the lateness of the day (7pm?) the plan is not to walk around the lakes edge. Deciding to save for another visit.
Thanks Makra for the hide, all good here

Another quick find ..... lots more water in this lake. Did the track around the lake perimeter which is in dire need of a trim but a nice walk nonetheless. However you don't really get any lake views from the track.
The old container mentioned by a previous finder was full of water and the lid cache broken so took it away. Also removed a granola bar some clown has put in the cache as food just attracts vermin or rots away.

I had parked my snail shell at the Ohakune Club a couple of days ago and today the mission was to pick up a few caches on the southern side of the mountains.
I started in the near East at the Gemini Lakes this morning for a warmup walk for the planned bigger one at lunchtime. Enjoyed the walk to this and the neighbouring lake.
Cheers for the cache.

Another beautiful surprise view of the mountain over the lake. Found two caches... Signed log. TFTC!
Spending a few days in the area for New Years break plus some scheduled cache maintenance, and enjoying some walking in the area.
We have done the walk to these lakes several times over the years, I see we found this cache on 8 January 2009 - nearly 9 years ago!
Like the lower lake cache, there are few visitors here - the last log was in April last year. Oddly we found 2 boxes together here. We looked for some recent logs in the GPS to see what others had reported, but they made no mention of this. We tried to review earlier logs on the phone, but of course there is no cell coverage here. We therefore left the spare box together with the other for the cache owner to grab one day on a maintenance visit.
Another spot well worth the walk- we did the round the lake track today - a bit rough, as many small to middling fallen trees have not been cleaned up for a few years, but a great walk still.
Thanks for placing and maintaining a cache in this special spot.

I found this cache together with my partner, Pityulino, during our holiday in New Zealand. The next stop on our trip was in Ohakune, therefor we looked for geocaches in this area. This day we hiked to the Lake Rotokura and after finding the cache at the first (dry) lake, we headed further to find its twin at the real lake. To our surprise we actually found a "gemini" cache, i.e. we found two cache containers with two logbooks, etc. Now I know why this cache is called twins. After logging the cache we hiked around the lake, which turned out to be quite a bush bashing. We enjoyed it, but its not for the faint-hearted. Thanks for the cache and greetings from Hungary!
Our mission today was to drive South to explore this area picking up caches along the way. With the visit to the top lake it was time to start heading home after taking some photos of Mt. Ruapehu in the distance beyond the lake. Thanks for placing the caches to bring us here. An autumn visit was good for the reason lots of cool looking mushrooms were out.
Found on a very wet day, but a lovely place despite that! TFTC, cache is in good condition, and 904m car to cache towards the DGSC challenge tally.
While staying in Ohakune for a few days, I joined up with family to take a walk out to Lake Rotokura. This cache a quick find at GZ and the view across the lake was lovely - Ruapehu was mostly covered in cloud though. TFTC - favourite point added for the nice location!
Nice power walk up to the cache to get some more milage in the legs. Interesting how different the 2 lakes are. TFTC!
These two cahces had us searching everywhere- as there was no cell coverage up here! We found the second one through luck, but the one at the first lake we had to wait until we were half way back to the car to get reception to grab the hint and go back to find it. -We don't use GPS, we use hints and google maps
Fantastic wee spot though.

Came here a few times over 20 years ago and as we were driving past with a little time to spare it was great opportunity to stop and revisit. Lakes were as beautiful as ever with stunning views up to the mountain on a still and sunny Saturday afternoon after an unseasonal dump of snow mid last week.
A quick find with TregearP and all in good order. Thanks for the motivation to stop and revisit this beautiful location.

Have been in Waiouru for work this week and today we needed to get out and remind ourselves what the real world looks like. Me old fruit Lionel (muggle) and I wandered up here to stretch the legs and find a couple of caches, although we almost decided not to attempt this due to the weather - as we bowled down the road a serious patch of bad weather smacked us right in the nose but we made he call to head for the car park and see if the weather passed over. Thankfully it did. So we hit the track and cruised up through the bush. After knocking off the cache closest to the car park we came a little farther up and grabbed this one too. The scenery here was fantastic, as the weather cleared the colour of the lake changed with it. This one was pretty easy to track down, we signed and ran.
Quick find, nice wander on the way home from the mountain. Nice lake and the mountain just poked out of the cloud as we were there. Slightly surprised to find that Kim Jong Un had made it out to this cache, tftc
Found unclipped & in plain site. Hid where I found it but covered cache with leaves & fern.Tftc
With fanfan-77 on way out from Ohakune after an overnight stay at Mangaturuturu Hut and a visit to Lake Surprise (great track – highly recommended). We stopped by to grab this on the way. An easy find and nice area. TFTC
Found with sveppi, easy find, lots of muggle logs in the book, kind of wanted to drop off a TB but felt like it would be too risky... TFTC and showing us this nice trail.
What a nice little spot for a cache.
Thank you for that one.

Yay! Found this one the hint was pretty spot on. The kids are thoroughly enjoying the hunt
Found with Mac Ross during a pleasant walk to these lakes. Delightful forest on a sunny day.
Replaced the missing cache with new container and bits and bobs log book ect.
Please take care and hide well.
Nice morning for a walk, lots of frog noise from the lake

Lovely bush and great walk. Didn't have time to walk right round the lake this time though. tftc
Forgot to save this one to the offline list, but gps was ok. Searched and searched and just couldn't find. Found a broken off clip from a container.
Found it, TFTC. Spending Queens Birthday weekend in caravan at DOC Camp ground near Ohakune and having a geo caching long weekend around central North Island!!! Awesome day clear skies.
Great walk as the blue sky showed itself... Lovely spot... Only ones here and considered a skinny dip but too cold for that... Will have to return for that... Hopefully before it becomes a chunky dunk! TFTC
Came here a couple of years ago but was not looking for caches then. Thought that as we were staying in Whakapapa for a few days and trying to boost our cache count that I should bring Mrs Oz in NZ along to see these two lakes (and get another 2 caches of course!). Surprise surprise we also found a couple skinny dipping, great idea on this rather warm day. TFTC
After a very long ride with the bike from Horopito....
Nice lakes! Thank you!

Ali (9) found it. Lovely walk. We have ridden are bikes down the track beside the railway track, first time to the lakes. TFTC
It is a pity no one else has been here in quite a while. It was truly magical today with the lake in front, snow covered Mount Ruapehu in all her glory behind, and a beautiful blue sky. Thank you for bringing us here. This is why we love geocaching. A big favourite from us.
Nice walk on a misty morning, decided to walk around the lake as well, track was very overgrown, got very wet. only birds out today. TFTC TNLN
A nice walk during our NZ holiday. Plenty of bird life on and around the lakes today.
The GPSr was a bit iffy in this area, but found the cache eventually. TFTC.

what a great lake worth the walk clue helped us walk straight to it many thanks we like these more out of the way ones
Lovely lakes. Been here before the other cache, and just as enjoyable.
When we arrived we heard distant explosions and wondered if we were hearing an eruption, but quickly realised that they were coming from the Army land... (live firing exercises).
Thanks for the cache!
