multiple DNF's by some very experienced cachers... this cache needs to be checked or archived
This geocacher reported that this geocache should be archived. A community volunteer reviewer has been notified.
No cache to be found - this one needs checking by the co. Thanks FarmerFrentzen
Followed all the instructions and made it to GZ. Searched and searched for probably 20 minutes, but to no avail. We PAF, who had previously found the cache, and we still did not locate it. May need to be checked to make sure it's still here
1/10/17. 7:26 AM.
1st of 5 DNFs (& 38 finds) today.
Day 3 of the long weekend for which I have come up to plunder caches in the Mid West Regional council. I'd stayed in Gulgong over the two nights and had already found the other caches in town on the other days.
Yesterday had been a big day on TRLT, although I'd had to stop before it got too dark, just after finding "TRLT - Umbrella" in Piambong. When I got back into town, safely away from the roos, there was still enough light to visit the waypoints of this multi, although dark by the time I'd worked out the final location and decided that probably needed daylight. I grabbed some takeaway for the motel room and watched what was left of the NRL Grand Final.
This morning after checking out, but before even getting any breakfast on the road, I headed to the GZ site to look for this one. First noticed there was also a GCA nearby so did what was needed for that and then set about searching, with no muggles about thankfully. Tomo344 has already described how unhelpful the hint was at this location, though I tried my best.
Most examples of the hint didn't budge nor have enough room for a small cache. I widened my search considerably but really spent most of my time going back to the same places as if that would change results. Despite the lack of a checker, the large quartz Tomo344 mentioned was in the area, so I knew I must be close. I put up the white flag after half an hour. Dammit, I really wanted this one.
} : (
Oh well, onto the next leg of the day, mopping up TRLT from where I had left off yesterday. "TRLT - Circinus" in Two Mile Flat was the next target.

A lovely town to walk around. Not too much trouble with the waypoints, except for an alphabetical error, as opposed to a numerical error. TFTC
After a bit more of checking and rechecking we found the cache surprisingly enough slap bang on the coordinates. Thanks for this fun cache.
Probably due to compounding errors throughout the way points, couldn't find an 8 digit number that put me anywhere near where I suspected gz to be! Had a look around for the cache anyway, great view. Might try again next week!
"Under a rock" Ha, nice hint, there were rocks every where! I did think the big Quartz rock might have the one, but no, found it anyway. TFTC
Find #754
Day 3 of the "Mudgee Mini-Roadtrip" - homeward bound
Today we drove home to Newcastle from Mudgee, via Gulgong, Ulan, Turill, Merriwa and Denman. The rain had eased, leaving the local creeks and rivers swollen, and my son had recovered from his gastro bug. The weekend tally was 31 caches and 885km traveled.
We had not planned to do this today, given the distance we had to go today, and its number of waypoints. We started though, enjoyed it a lot, and found our way to GZ with just a couple of hiccups. We had the same problems as others with the stars, luckily the error it produced was enormous, and enough to make us recheck, Samuel spotted what we had done wrong in the end. WP5 coords seemed off, just enough to make finding the (random) number difficult. I was glad when the coords it produced seemed to fit, and on the GPSr, GZ looked like a good one too. We got to GZ, made another cool find, then walked to find the cache. Took 5 minutes (we weren't leaving without it!) but the cache was discovered in good condition. A highlight of the day, and the weekend. TFTC FarmerFrentzen

Found the cache on our drive home today, after our 3 day road trip to Mudgee - TFTC!
Great tour! Had to go back again to WP2, can't count stars! Corrected this and soon had cache! TFTC! : )
Found at 3:50 PM GAFF3 in the company of Team Nurse Hayley.
Oh my - did we muck up this multi [B)] There were so many elements that we got wrong and had us up the creek. We couldn't even do a simple subtraction of 1 - 1 for petes sake The date was not in the right format and the 8 digit number was kind of a random one.
Anyway we persevered and after a recount we arrived at a spot that looked very likely, but we were out by 174 metres as it turned out. So another mistake was fixed and then we find that we could have easily driven up there and didn't need to go cross country as we had [B)]
When we started on the final walk we were still not convinced that we had it right as it was a long way from where we parked the car and were wondering why it would be way down here. Anyway with an enormous sigh of relief, the cache was finally spotted.
A good final location where we took a few pictures before moving on.
Thanks FarmerFrentzen.

On a caching adventure to Mudgee with pprass we set out to see some country side and some interesting caches.
This puzzle was a mission to do, at the begining we were all good in working out the required info but at WP2 I the nurse stuffed this one up as i can't count today haha.
So with the incorrect cords we were off to find the next step which was taking us 7k's away DOH nop this is NOT right at all!!! At this point we didn't know what the heck was going on so we went back to the WP2 to try again.....Well I pretty much worked out where I (me) went wrong, all my fault- i did not count the number of stars correctly as i added some extra's in all i could do was laugh and hope i wouldn't get killed by pprass ha! So round two we worked about where we had to go this time thank god- arrived at the next stage , scratching our heads wondering what number do we need cause where we were there were so many numbers- anyway long story short got the cords off we went, found GZ and hooray there was the cache. That was a mission in a half thats for sure lots of laughing and a good one to remember.
Thanks for the cache

Well the good news is that the construction fence has been removed. The bad......the waypoint has changed and is no longer available.
Not to worry, I'll have this one re-jigged before the week is over and back online.
Not to worry, I'll have this one re-jigged before the week is over and back online.
Unfortunately the situation remains unchanged due to ongoing construction works in the area of WP3.
Unfortunately the situation at WP3 remains the same. Will continue to monitor and advise.
We knew this was offline, but we decided to do the first two waypoints anyway, with an optimistic hope that the situation at waypoint 3 might have suddenly changed. It hasn't. Still fences there preventing entry. Hope things change for you to sort it out soon. Thanks
It appears that Waypoint 3 is still inaccessible due to the temporary construction fencing surrounding it.
I will update again in a month.

Back in Gulgong to complete this cache that we started 4 days ago. After being thwarted at WP3 by temporary fencing (which is still in place) I got a bit resourceful and used my other passion, genealogy, to find out what I needed to get past WP3. WP4 & 5 were easily located and off we went to GZ. As we approached the parking for GZ we had a chuckle as once again we were confronted by construction fencing. I appeared some routine maintenance was being carried out but luckily it was well away from where we needed to be. On approach to GZ we surprised an echinda who was doing his best to hide from us by sticking his head under a log. The cache was easily located & is in good condition. SL Took TB TFT adventure FarmerFrentzen !
It seems that some construction work has resulted in one of the waypoints being inaccessible for the time being.
I'll take this one offline until the situation changes.

This cache was at the top of out To Do list while staying in Mudgee for 2 weeks as geohubby is descended from Beaufoy Merlin, the photographer that took the photos of Gulgong on the $10- note.
Our tour was thwarted at WP3 (if we made the right calculations at WP2 as there was much discussion about the date format). A temporary fence has been erected around the area which denied us access to locate the required info that would allow us to calculate WP4. I have attached a photo of our calculated WP3. If this is the correct WP3 then the cache may have to be disabled until the fence is removed. Enjoyed the part of the tour we got to complete anyway.

Great wait to see the sights of Gulgong. Waypoints found quickly. Must have entered wrong co ordinates for way point 4, spent a while at wrong building. When i realised I pressed the wrong buttons and retyped numbers, it got me to the right building. Found gz and cache easily. Tftc
As we head from town to town as part of our "Purposeful Meander around Oz" the Rats and the Mini Rats found this cache.
I remember havinga look for this one once before and back then we found an unpublished cache, today we were in the right spot and the cache was soon in hand.
Thanks for being part of our great adventure.

We rolled in to Gulgong thinking it would be a tiny little town we'd just drive right through, but no! its full of history and beautiful old architecture. Two things we love in a town. Unfortunately we couldn't explore it properly, as we had to keep moving towards our accommodation for the night, but this multi provided us a little tour of a wonderful place. We found all the required numbers, and then a quick find at GZ. Thanks for showing us this place, we'll be back for a better look later. Thanks for the hide.
Another sunny day looking for the caches between Mudgee and
Gulgong.
Thanks for the multi, it was a really lovely one. I had to come back a second time cause I made a mistake the first time but I wouldn't have seen my first kangaroos if I hadn't! And btw, really nice view at finale.

# 6572 Found on our 2013 winter escape trip to Qld.
Just 2 to find on a short stopover in Gulgong on the way south.
Had to try this one, and got a bit confused at one WP, but made a good guess.
Co-ords are all good and spot on at GZ.
No muggles around here today and a quick find.
And only 1 day left in the 31 day challenge as well.
TN LN SL. Thanks for the cache FarmerFrentzen,

Mudgee Trip 2013. This multi was a fun adventure around this amazing old town. Plenty to see and plenty to be aware of. Only on WP presents a question, but with a bit of thought and number checking only one gave an answer. GZ turned out to be a good logical spot and nicely placed cache with no fences near. Thanks.

Thought we had this in the bag and coordinates to GZ sounded spot on with great views all round. But hang it can't be behind that fence! So after all the footwork we failed at the last hurdle. Hope to get another chance this some other day.
A lovely autumn day and an interesting tour around this olde worlde town.
Great views!

Mad dogs and Englishman go out in the midday sun. Well this Pommie decided midday and the hottest day of the year so far was a good time to grab this cache. An enjoyable stroll around town was had by all the clan from both sides of the world. TFTC
It was a cold , wet and windy day but I persisted. Interesting bits of history. TFTC
Whilst out for a drive today we decided to take the grand tour of Gulgong and what an interesting little tour it was. Although we probably didn't have as much time as we spent today it certainly was interesting and well worth the effort.
Interestingly we had to take an educated guess at one WP as none of us seemed to be able to count but hey, that doesn't matter as logic (or is that pure luck) soon had us pointed in the right direction.
Thanks for the cache.

Last time we were in Gulgong in 2009, we really did not have time for the grand tour, today we probably didn't, but we did anyways. After a couple of brute force on some of the numbers, and with a very nervous pooch in the back seat, we finally worked out a logical GZ.
Cheers

Another old cache in this historic town. We though to do just a stop for lunch but ended up spending a good 4 hours here. Between this cache and the local pioneer museum the time past quickly.
The information was found quickly, although I was surprised at WP5. But all the numbers fitted and after a longer than necessary hunt at GZ (you can approach it from the west not south as I did) the cache was found spot on. Swaps for Dino and Pebbles and we said goodbye to a lovely town. TFTC FF

[Surprisingly, I had already visited some of the attractions of this multi. For some daft reason i thought walking around in 33+ temps would be a good idea. ] GZ I saw several years ago with a huge storm cloud rolling in over mudgee, and I had just visited the shop at WP for supplies![ Started at WP2, had bad maths leading to WP3, but all else worked. TFTC TNLN].
While waiting to surprise Mrs Chippyroo, (she's staying in Gulgong for work), I decided to tackle this cache. After a few miscalulations, and driving 5kms in the wrong direction, realising my error, I found my way to GZ. Amazing history, very well thought out. A job well done. TNLN, thanks.
"I'll take the Ten Bob tour" I thought when I rolled into town
A grand tour it is too [^]
On a hot summers day I kept to the shady sides of the streets and found most of the info I needed.
'Twas a bit warm strolling up that hill behind the pub [xx(]
With the cache coordinates to hand I decided that a return to the geomobile was in order.
A short drive away and another short strolll and I soon found the highlight of the tour

Had a lot of fun looking around the town where the geowife was born. Unfortunately we were going pretty well until the last WP when it seemed to put us in a paddock that looked to be privately owned. Didn't want to go in and check. Maybe if we get out this was again we will have another look.
Completed all the waypoints on the 4th, but when we parked the car near GZ we discovered another cache by accident and thought it was this one. Went back today and got the right one this time.
Nice location for a cache, fantastic view. Found my first ever travel bug.
Gulgong is a fantastic little town; nice people delicious pies and a lot of history.
Thanks

Wow this was fun! Arrived late in the day and managed to find all the WP’s do the maths before it got too dark. Drove to GZ, now fully dark and decided to come back in the morning to take in the view and find the cache. Was not disappointed the view was fantastic. I exchanged swaps and picked up a TB. Thanks FarmerFrentzen really enjoyed this one.
Found on a nice day out in Gulgong. Stopped and had a picnic lunch in the park.

Lots of nitty gritty steps to go thru which added to the process, but fun to guess ahead. Great town with stacks of history and great people. Final spot was my fave for the day. TFTC
AJAY had missed out on the final WP for this one. Thought I'd take him to final GZ. Cache well and in situ. SLTNLN. TFTC again
We found the first waypoint but my GPS wouldn't play nice. I put the coords into the phone and we were heading to the second spot when we saw the second waypoint much closer than expected. We did the calculations for the third waypoint but I wasn't sure it was correct after the first error. I have trouble with which format to use. As we were with friends we couldn't really take enough time to explore more so we left. I will be back in Mudgee later in the year and we can try again. TFTC.
Ok a quick drive around town and arrived at the final waypoint which was alittle puzzeling as it did not quite fit in with the other areas and the clues we gathered. Anyway we almost phoned a friend but gave it a go anyway and headed for GZ. Had the place to ourselfs and heading in. Upon logging I see another had been here today. By the time I was heading back up a couple had made there way the the table and chairs. Lucky for me my kids where running around making a silly sight and the muggles did not even see me head back up the hill.
JABs.

What a good way to round off the Henry Lawson Heritage Festival weekend this was a good tour of the town and a very good way to gather information of interest about the town. The GZ gave us a good overall look at the area and rounded the weekend off perfectly, thanks FarmerFrentzed for showing us around.

This was a great cache. I was at Gulgong for the Clay Energy event which was brilliant. The town was full to the gills because there were people doing Esteiddfords as well. WP1 - Easy. WP2 - easy as well, but could not make the maths work. Luckily this is my fourth Clay event in Gulgong, so I had a think and got myself to WP3. Hey, why didn't I just do that in the first place? Anyway the other waypoints weren't too hard, and with my new GPSr I look a lot less conspicuous in busy areas looking at it - only one guy looked at me funny-like. Was that you, Farmerfrentzen? It was not surprising to find out whereabouts the GZ is. Many visitors would not find this place but it has a very fine vew. Thanks for a great tour of Gulgong. Maybe I'll get the Mudgee Mile done next time. Took Diabetes geocoin.
We made a detour to Gulgong to get fuel for our car and also for ourselves, and ended up finding the two local caches.
This one gave us a nice tour of the town, but since the day was a scorcher we were happy we could drive around in our car with the aircon on.
Took TB Weighed Down, left GC Diabetes.

Found it. Very fun. We found it in the rain, wide open and the log book was completely destroyed, it will need some maintenance. Enjoyed the tour though. TFTC

You have to be very careful working out the clues as tiny one mistake will send you in the wrong direction.
Thanks to the MillFinders for some clarification on one WP.
Found it with ease at GZ.

Interesting trip around town. 2nd ones to find and log visit today. 1st multi cache and fun to do.
A very nice multi. Good tour around town with a nice view to finish off with. How narrow are the streets in the main part of town.
Only made one mistake which was realised when we were obviously in the wrong place. Arriving back to the previous WP and quickly spotted the error and contuined on.
Cache was an easy find with some of the local wildlife watching.

This made for a very nice break on my drive from Quirindi to Orange. I enjoyed having a wander around and exploring this cool little village. Beautiful view from GZ! TFTC
We're so suprised to see that only two cachers before us have found this one. At first glance the multiple waypoints do look a lot to do, but all waypoints are close together, with GZ being the furthest away.
At 9.00pm, this cache was a pleasure to do, and it was interesting to drive around the old town. A very well thought out and enjoyable multi.
THANKYOU.

Yo, FTF.......... Hey this was a good multi with excellent co-ordinates and well thought out stages. In company with gerrynewgirl we walked to each stage before doing a bit of flirting around GZ TFTC TN left token.
Nice easy little multi with interesting codes and good co-ordinates, completed for a FTF in the company of weroamin. Found a horseshoe at GZ which I left for another cacher. Spent the rest of the day exploring the museum which housed an interesting family history of my mate together with the ancestoral cottage. Signed log. TNLN. TFTC.
