Another beautiful spot on this drive. Thanks.

Brad and Janet are on another epic journey.?This time it involves many of Len Beadell’s 6500km of roads including the Anne Beadell, the Connie Sur, the Heather, the Neale, the Gun Barrel Highway, the Gary, the Talawana Track, the Gary Junction Rd and more.
And of course a 2 day visit to Maralinga which Len also located, surveyed and largely built as he had with Woomera and Emu. An amazing man.
If you don’t know of him he wrote some wonderful books. Laconic with a dry sense of wit, they are an excellent read. They are also available as audiobooks as is a recording of his brilliant after dinner talk one evening in Shepparton. Worth a listen.
And now the Moon Tours trip is over we are heading back to Adelaide via whichever way takes our fancy after a few days rest and repair in Karratha. Almost certainly down the WA Coast before heading to Hyden and the land of the Salmon Gums.

We decided to take this road from Norseman to Hydan without realising it was dirt and quite remarkably lacking in coverage. No problem, just adds to the adventure. Somewhere along the line my phone managed to get just enough internet to load up the front page on the app so when we stopped here for lunch, I knew there was a cache, but had no information about it. While M made lunch I wandered around getting my little blue dot closer and closer and occasionally checking out likely spots. Eventually this paid off and I found it! Yippee!

Thanks for find #4401

It is finally time to head back to Victoria after five months away, we will be concentrating on adventure labs, earth caches and virtuals and anything that pops up nearby on the screen.

We pulled up here and were very impressed with this lake although we were surprised it had no water in it being the amount of rain thats being around lately .It was still fantastic looking very dry at the moment and you can see where people have been trying to drive through, they aren't very bright. It would be a great spot to stop and have a picnic while looking at the scenery around it and even has some amenities.
Thanks for bringing us to this lovely spot and for the break in the drive.

After completing the Holland Track with a group of like minded people, the journey home was via Coolgardie, south to Burra Rock and Cave Hill (still with a few from the main group) where I split and made my way back to Victoria Rock Road. Headed south and on reaching Hyden-Norseman Road took a slight detour east to get this cache.

Nice view but was absolutely mobbed by flies. Thankful for a quick find.

Thanks for the cache Lyn Pat and Nathan.

Cheers

Today was day 7 of our Wheatbelt/Holland Track/Goldfields adventure, and what an adventure it has been. We had two days wandering the wheatbelt, picking up caches here and there as we wended out way towards our rendezvous point in Hyden where we were meeting up with others who would be travelling the Holland Track with us. We (Team Red Roo, SeabreezeOZ, m4yb, megawatt60, ebenie and Mistraluna) had an amazing time on the Holland and are still sharing photos, memories and laughs via our facebook group. It was sad to be the first to leave the group, but SeabreezeOZ and I were on a limited timeframe and had to start heading back towards home before the others. They say that all good things must come to an end...

But we weren't quite ready to just tuck our tails between our legs and head for home. No, we did a search of goldfields caches with fav points as a filter and came up with a "Must Do" list to grab whilst still in the area. I had never been into Kalgoorlie before yesterday, not really ever being interested in venturing too far from the ocean, so I was very impressed to see so much history around the place, and amazing landscapes as we travelled first east from Coolgardie into Kalgoorlie/Boulder, and then southwards down towards Kambalda, finishing our day not too far from the shores of Lake Lefroy. Sunrise at the lake was a definite highlight of the trip too, an experience I would recomment to everybody.

From Lake Lefroy, we continued in a southerly direction, stopping off here and there to climb the odd hill or two in search of trigs, or to take photos at other interesting locations on our way into Norseman. Once we reached Norseman, it was time to grab a few items from the local IGA and do a lightning tour around town, picking up the newer caches that had appeared since my last visit. After a rather nasty encounter with some locals, we weren't keen to hang around any longer and headed over to the Lake Cowen Lookout for a lunch stop and a chance to say goodbye to the goldfields before hitting the Norseman-Hyden Road as we headed west towards Wave Rock once again.

My companion had already found the caches along this stretch (apart from Thiel Rock, and we hadn't done our research on how to tackle that one) but was more than happy to stop so that I too could claim my smileys along this road. Tis interesting that the trees only grow on one side of this lake. Lovely spot to stop and admire the views, and definitely a spot to remember if needing a rest stop on future visits. Love the little pig face succulents growing along the lake shoreline around gz. All good with the cache too.

Huge thanks to Lyn Pat and Nathan for placing and maintaining this cache for the rest of us to come and find.

Geocaching has taken me on many adventures over the years all over Australia and overseas. It has also introduced me to a brilliant and diverse group of people, many of whom are now close friends.

Today I was lucky enough to be out and about so I targeted this cache.

Sorry for the late log, but thanks for adding to the adventure!

Thanks Lyn Pat and Nathan for placing this cache.

Lovely spot. We are on our way to the Mega in SA and grabbed this geo on our travels. Took a bit longer to find than it should have as we read the clue and checked out the surroundings based on it. Of course there were several possibilities, so we started with what we thought was the most obvious one. Turns out we were wrong! Haha, that's not uncommon Wink thanks very much for the cache Smile

14-Apr-14
On our way to the oz mega neat little cache in the middle of nowhere Smile thanks for the cache guys

05-Apr-14
Thanks for the hide. Took the hard way into this by coming down a track 50 Kms north of Norseman. Thinking this would be a short cut by distance it added a extra hour to our trip. Should've gone down the wide gravel Hyden-Norseman road. Bit of a adventure to get us ready for the Holland track. Fantastic views from the cache thanks for taking us here.

We stopped on the side of the road to find this easily hidden cache. It was funny to look out over the lake and see the tyre tracks out there. Looks like a fair few people have gotten them selves bogged out there!
Not something we were keen to experience so we took off up the road towards Coolgardie!
The road was in great condition which made the driving fast. However, take care out there.

Thanks Lyn Pat and Nathan for the cache!

Waving Farewell to the Rock (yeah, bad pun) we set off in lovely weather to drive The Granite and Woodlands Discovery Trail, see the great countryside and find the six caches. Such a better name than Hyden Norseman Road and a terrific leaflet, anyone following should get hold of one at the Information places. We were grateful to sylken who helped us out when we were floundering, trying to get started. In the event, we had an exciting and almost wholly successful trip with five finds.
The lovely weather, however, didn't last. We were wakened in our 'van at 6.00 am the first morning by rain but it stopped and we were down the track and the rain wouldn't last, so we set off. It stopped and started again all morning so we camped for two nights at McDermid Rock, a very acceptable site.
We found this cache fourth at 9.45 am. Unfortunately the lid was very badly broken. It hadn't just happened, what about logging Needs Maintenance folks? Not doing that is up there with monosyllabic logs (grumpy old man!). A new container was found, not the best lid, so we hope it is put back on carefully. It is fitted out with an "Official" sticker and a stash note. Many thanks Lyn Pat and Nathan, again, we would rather find one cache in locations like this Trail than a dozen urban micros! The views are delightful, except, of course, for the idiot damage to the lake surface. A couple of travellers visited.

[:(!] We have just finished part of the Holland Track for our epic adventure for the last couple of days, after camping at Thursday Rock we were on our way again to McRock to camp for the night and we pick up this cache on our way, we parked the geocars as close as possible to GZ and we walked the rest of the way, on arrival at GZ we had the cache in hand in a matter of minutes.

Up early and on the road. Got here as the sun was rising and took a few shots. Rain over the last couple of days has made the area interesting and last nigjht we watched a few thunderstorms around us. We had been told the Hyden end was closed but were going to chance no extra rain but a quick phone call told us the road was open to 4wd less than 3 tonne so off we went.

Thanks for the cache. Too early for breakfast so off to the Breakaways we go.

Haven't passed by this way for years so it was good to stop and have another look. There was a fantastic crop circle peace sign in the mud, so well done and no car track into it, must have been done by hand. Very clever to get it so round. Pretty basic hide and easy find, diff seems a little high for this one. Enjoyed the views. TFTC

Back in the area visiting Thiels Rock and Dissappointment Rock, kept the kids amused for 30 minutes looking for the cache again. Love this area. Oct is not a great time of the year, wind blows, flies drive you mad and when it rains the roads are chocked with mud.

18-Sep-11
We came from Hyden on a very wet day, the car getting really muddy Razz, but nowhere near impassable (saved us a couple of hours going via other roads to Norseman) [^].
My old map has this about 3km off the road, but this couldn't be further from the truth - it's less than 100 metres Surprised.
The camera was kept busy here and we came away with some wonderful pics Cool.
Took star. Left GC & car. SL.
Thanks for another one Lyn Pat & Nathan.

Travelling the Holland Way with my wife and two sisters(all muggles) and had intended to camp here, however it was a bit hot and the shade was sparce so we just walked around and took some photos and investigated the pools that have been dug in the lake. I recovered some beautiful salt crystals. They are cubic and pure white, I don't know what the salt could be to create these crystals. Anyone? TFTC Lyn Pat and Nathan.
