Hi bjtrekker
This geocache was brought to my attention as being in need of an owner maintenance visit and after my previous reviewer note, there has been no owner response. The cache owner needs to check on this cache ASAP and either replace it or archive it, after picking up any geo-litter. See the [maintenance section of the Geocache Listing Requirements/Guidelines](http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx#listingmaintenance).
I've added this cache to my watchlist, and I will check back in four weeks to be sure that the maintenance has been done. In the meantime, I have temporarily disabled this listing. When the maintenance is completed, the owner can enable the listing by clicking on the link below the cache name to return it to active status.
Whatever your intentions, please **post a note** here on the cache page (not email) to let us know that you are still active and maintaining the cache. If a month passes without seeing a response, then I'll assume that this listing should be archived.
Please note, that if a cache is archived due to lack of owner maintenance, the cache is unable to be unarchived.

After an extensive search with many people in our group we could not locate this cache
Search high and low just couldn't find, the muggles i was with were growing impatient with my search so will come back another day
Had a little bit of a problem with finding but got there in the end , what an amazing place
I had travelled down to Wellington last night to attend a geo-event on Mt Vic, set up around the Blood Supermoon Lunar Eclipse that was happening. That meant that I had a chance to sort out one of my last remaining Dot Days with a couple of hours of caching in a target-rich environment. In fact I haven't been caching in Upper Hutt since attending WENZ back in 2018.
First up I decided to visit the Kaitoke Regional Park in order to get a stage of an Adventure Lab that I started on Feb 29th last year, and hadn't gone any further since then. So whilst I was here I figured I'd get a couple of regular caches as well, including this one.
Initially I was confused as how to access this cache, but then read the page and was reassured about the 'off-piste' aspect. Once I was close to GZ, geosenses took over and it wasn't long before I had found the cache. No issues found with the container or log, which was signed before the whole lot was replaced back as found.
Thanks for making my first visit to this park memorable, and for the cache

I stopped by Rivendell to collect the lab cache then realised this place is awesome enoughth to have a cache - there must be one here. Ah! A multi. WEnt back and solved that - That's a bit far away. Oh well. Later. On the way back to the car I realilsed why the multi final is so far away - there must be a cache in the way. Have another look at the map, and zoom out a bit. There it is! Had to hunt around for a bit but as soon as I saw the SPOS I knew I had found it.
Gets a favourite. Alas I left my cache kit in the car so it misses out on a path tag. Sorry. This place is awesome. Must have walked around it three times. Amazing how much movie they could pack into such a small area. So many thanks to those who put up the info boards.
I am tired of my streak. Of getting out and getting just one cache. It gets boring. Or something. So today I headed away from Wellington (away from my store of caches-for-my-streak) to the Wairarapa to get a bunch more. Maybe even ten. Maybe even more! Woohoo!

This is my first find since 2016! I know right!? Was visiting the Rivendell film location with my girlfriend when I hear her say "oh someones left a bag here". It didn't take me long to realize what it was and I felt my self being flooded with an excitement I haven't felt in years So I wrote in the book, securely re-hid the cache (if my muggle girlfriend could spot it from the path, it can't have been too well hidden before) and carried on our way. TFTC ️
We had to work a bit harder to find the lost treasure, but it eventually gave up its secrets. It was interesting to see the photos of how Rivendell looked at the time of filming, and good to see that it has returned to its natural state now. Thanks for bringing us here. Found with Dragonapril (now HidingDragon) Took TB.
A great place to come and visit if your interested in Lord of the Rings. Took us longer to find than what it should have. Dropped TB. Thanks for placing the cache
In Petone for a ten pin bowling tournament, lovely day for an afternoon drive to Rivendell for a adventure lab and some caches in this area. Thanks bjtrekker for the cache.
Was wondering where you could hide something that big here. Then I saw it. A bit light on treasure. Added a bit.
A lovely place for a cache and my first find of the day before doing a long walk including the Norbett Creek Loop and further afield. When I arrived at the car park I was quite surprised to see some people dressed up in Lord of the Rings costumes standing under a gazebo with some refreshments on tables and I wondered what was going on...I later on found out that there was a big adventure race (WAI2K) taking place today. TFTC
The seventh and last cache on our first walk around Kaitoke, absolutely lovely walk and a picnic at the end. TFTC

Marvellous spot and a good sized cache. Took all the broken stuff and leaves out and gave it a wipe. Left a TB for further travels. TFTC.
Zusammen mit Panne Koppa und Mini_JayJay gerne Rivendell besucht und hier eine auch eine Nacht auf dem großen Campingplatz verbracht. Sehr schön hier und als HdR Fan ein muss in Neuseeland.

Brilliant day catching up with friends while picnicking, walking, caching and paddling. Found with sarahjane20.
A bit obvious once we looked in the right direction Out and about today in the area
This is a great park and we love riding the Mt bike around here

Exploring Rivendell and parts of Kaitoke. Slowly narrowed down the spot the spotted the camouflage. Thanks for the cache.
Made it here after a short hike from the campground. The girls managed to find this one. Very cool.
Found it but the area you've marked it in is not actually a track for Rivendell at all.
?????? Vacation at the original locations of the LotR-films! ??????
Together with Jon Snow and H_Nelson and some friends-of-mine-muggles we went to New Zealand for almost four weeks, collecting many great impressions of both islands, their awesome landscapes, their clinging (and indeed very annoying!) muggles and bushes, their fascinating wildlife (especially the sandflies were very clinging, too??), their various locations of my favorite movies ?? (although the guided tours were very overpriced!) and last but not least their nice geocaches!
I fell especially in love with New Zealand's bushes because most of the caches are hidden deep inside. And the good thing is: there are definitely no muggles there??!!!
It was a very nice vacation with many great impressions and experiences!
The visit of ????Rivendell???? was my personal Christmas present! I loved it here very much. The cache was easy to find and of course I leave a favorite here!
TFTC and greetings from Bavaria, Ari

??????It's time for Xmas holidays!??????
At Munich airport I met Jon Snow and Ari and a couple of muggles. Here we started our common holiday tour.
First we went to Singapore by plane, where we stayed one night and strolled through this beautiful city. It was really amazing!
Then we went on to our real destination: New Zealand! ????
Within nearly four weeks we first explored the North Island, followed by the South Island in the second half of our journey. We could discover unique landscapes and great nature, we saw many animals (and no, I'm not talking about sand flies here??), we met nice people and found also some caches. ??
Thanks to all the owners for elaborating, hiding and maintaining their caches! Staying and caching in ???? and ???? was a great experience and real fun!
Greetings from "good old Europe"??, H.N.

On my way to Wellington, this movie set of LOTR had also been to be visited. After a little while of searching I could find the container and signature the logbook.
Thanks for this cache and best wishes from Germany, kischte.

After the walk thru Rivendell we found the cache. Unfortunately the logbook was to wet to write down our nickname. Many thanks for the cache.
Found as a part of a previous group TanjackMüley, now WanderingSparrow. Now I'm continuing on my own. TFTC
Weren't sure about this as only came out with flip flops but after circling the cache a few times we stopped and laughed on how wet missed it. This place is very magical and we're glad we came. Thanks for the cache!
Was going to get a few caches today but woke up to a slow puncture. Put air in it in Greytown got a few caches. Put air in it in Featherstown. Luckily didn't need much do knew I would get to Upper Hutt. Got a few caches but not as many as I had planned
Found with jgirl1880 whilst walking the loop for the first time. We took the harder way up, retrieved the cache and had to wait for a substantial amount of time whilst people below us played dress up for photos. Once they left we managed to find the much easier, more direct route down.
A grey day up here today, and the road is still closed for resealing, but there were still plenty of people around. A nice quick find once I found the track, without being noticed. Signed the nice new log in the pill bottle.TFTC.
The weather up here was a lot better than it was in the city. A very pleasant stroll. The road was closed for resealing which added about 1.5 km to my walk. No worries there and no worries finding the cache. The logbook is quite wet but I manage to sign it ok. TFTC

We enjoyed our first visit to Rivendell, and of course finding the cache. Thanks for the cache.
Out for the day with Bkj97 and Little Blue Hen we travelled over the Akatawarawa Road to Upper Hutt. Then we went to the Kaitoke Regional Park and found some fantastic caches. A lovely hot day so thankful for the shade of the beautiful trees. All caches found easily, stamped and returned as found. TFTC
We only managed a couple of caches in this wonderful park today. As we were with family who have no interest in geocaching, so when we had a free half hour DJZT and I ducked away to grab a few smileys while the rest of the family were swimming in the river nearby. This was the first one we targeted. A nice quick find away from muggle eyes. ThanksFTC. Cheers
Quick and easy cache. With a lot of fantasy, you can imagine where Rivendell was.
But still a must see for Lord of the Rings Fans.

Geo app compass had difficulty homing in but suddenly decided 30 m away that it would count us down to 5m and we were surprised to find the bag sitting in the open. All ok with the cache so signed log, resealed the bag and placed in the hollow that it had obviously been in and covered with the scattered bits of branch that seemed should have been there for that purpose. TFTCSL
Found with bkj97 and no1 grandson who was quick to spot it where it probably shouldn't have been. T4TCSL
[#4354] While driving from Feilding towards Lower Hutt we stopped at some interesting locations and searched for any nearby caches like this one. All sites were really worthwile visiting and the caches made our visit even more enjoyable. Especially the Kaitoke Regional Park with former LotR movie location Rivendell, the swingbridge and rain forest were attractive. Along the way we also found a reverse wherigo. Thanks to all cache owners.

Although I'm not a massive fan of Lord of the Rings I did enjoy the movies and was keen to visit here during the mega. When Sir Belac's parents allowed him to fly up on his own to Wellington to spend the weekend with Nanzie and I it became a must do. I can see why Peter Jackson chose the places he did for filming, they are magical, awesome place. I had to take a photo of Sir Belac standing in the same spot as Legolas. Thanks for bringing us here.

My three sons, my wife and I found this cache along with our friend Kyb3r while enjoying Wellington’s Mega weekend. We were aiming for eleven geocache types in a day and so came out here for a nearby event. However when we saw it was where Rivendale was filmed for the LOTR and that there was a kiwi guardians plaque here we decided to walk the loop before leaving.
Amazing area which we took our time to explore. Gets a fav from us.

TFTC. Out with fellow MEGA travellers warfi and kotukuSI. What a beautiful area to visit.
As a LoTR fan I was delighted to be here - had no idea that this was where Rivendell was. We came here with a completely different purpose in mind. This area is my favourite discovery of my trip.
A big favourite point form me.
Thanks so much bjtrekker - this is why I cache.

Out on a eleven cache types in one day mission with iammrwalker and family.
This forest is so beautiful. Honestly incredible. I felt bad about heading off the main track as I didn't want to defile the ground but it was all okay. I wonder what this place looked like with all the movie set pieces in here. Would have certainly been something! I will look out for it if I ever watch the movie again haha.

Mega-caching with purdiepurdie and warfi; we came to Kaitoke because one of the nearby Trad caches filled a "months placed" hole for them; we didn't have high expectations for the surrounding area and were totally delighted with the native bush, the LOTR info posts and generally the whole area.
This was one of the caches that we found along the way.
Thanks for placing & maintaining this cache, BarnabysTravels.

We came to gather information for the LOTR multi here. While the Chief was being PI/secretary & gleaning the required info for that one I decided to mosey on up here. Oh gawd, phone battery almost gone....left Gps in car, well no time to lose, a race up the incline it was! Got me to the needed dell (puff, puff!) and pocketed useless phone while I scanned my surroundings until I spotted something that looked sus! A quick sign of the newer log, slightly less damp than the older log! Returned everything to order and made my way back down. Thanks for bringing us here, what a gorgeous spot.....Ah, the serenity!
Well we found it: rustynz, rebel98 and gorby

We were near here a couple of months ago collecting the old cache, but we had no time to come up here and look for this cache.
This time its a MEGA event, and a waypoint for a driving tour for the event, that brings us here. We make the time to find this cache, and trusting the GPS after a clamber up a sort of track we made our way to GZ.
Thanks bjtrekker for the hide in this beautiful place

Out caching with a few of the Westie Crew, i.e rusty and Rebel. Down from Auckland for the MEGA and this cache is now on our hotlist. Beautiful area here with the trees, we almost got started on the multi here, the LOTR one, but decided to just make a short visit by coming here. Couldn't find the path up the hill straight away so just went up the hill anyway, cache was in an obvious spot which I found and then me and rusty made our way down back to the car! A fellow cacher knew we didn't start the multi proper, so gave me the answers to it for another visit!
WENZ is New Zealand's 5th Mega Event ever and for months I have been anticipating in attending it. It is the first Mega Event that I have ever attended and sadly I could only come for one day, so early on Saturday morning my father and I got in the car and drove our way towards Upper Hutt for a hectic day of geocaching. In the end it was a spectacular day where we managed to found 67 geocaches somehow throughout the whole day, see a lot of new faces, catch up with friends and just have an altogether amazing time.
We had just been to the Kaitoke drive-by and since there was a Waves to Wairarapa question further up the road, we decided that it would be a good idea to go and answer that question while also picking up a few more geocaches in the area before heading back towards the Flashmob event.
When I got to the area, I was slightly confused there seemed to be no way to get to the geocache since the track bended the wrong way and the hint suggested that it was only about 1 metre off the track. I went back and forth a bit, before deciding something was wrong. Knowing this I went off in search of a nearby geocacher, because I knew that there had to be one since the Kaitoke drive-by was happening at the moment. Luckily the first geocacher I spoke to had just been to do the geocache and was now finding the multi. He said that there was in fact a trail, but it was hard to see and was barely there. Going back to the trail with new found confidence I was met with a group of geocachers that were also having struggles with the geocache ( I knew all these people were geocachers because of they were wearing the WENZ lanyards, thank god for those ). I quickly told them what the person I had just talked to had said and we set off over the hill on what we thought was the faint trail we were supposed to walking on. As we got to the top, our GPSes said we were close so we began hunting. It didn't take long before one of the other geocachers yelled out that he had found it. He took the geocache out from its hiding spot and took off it camouflage and we all signed the log and parted ways. TFTC, it was amazing to see so many geocachers in just one small area!!

Having a wonderful Mega weekend with KotukuSI and purdiepurdie. We were about to head out after the waterhole, but the lure of LOTR was just too strong. I had no idea this special place existed. Wonderful thanks so much for bringing us here. A fav from me
The long anticipated WENZ 2018 MEGA is finally here. **Yay!**
Had planned to do a few out here in association with the nearby WENZ Drive-by Event, specifically to allow a couple of TBs that want to visit LOTR film locations.
So here we are at the magical Rivendell film location. So deserving of the many favourite points to which I’ll add another.
Dropped the TBs so their visit is recorded, but re-took them as I’m planning to visit a few more locations.
TFTC. Loved it

During our journey through this wonderful country we did some walking and had time to look for some caches. This is one of them. We logged as Team EIN. TftC! Greetings from Germany! - Willow
A straightforward find today - only really found the "track" on the way down after a but of bush bashing on the way up. Took the "lord of the Caches" TB.
To Rivendell where Elves yet dwell,
In glades beneath the misty fell.
Through moor and waste we ride in haste,
And wither then we cannot tell.

This was a cool find. My first cache in Rivendell! My friend and I wanted to see this film location and decided to grab this cache nearby. Tftc visiting from Maryland, USA
Visited the cache today to drop a TB that had this cache as its goal: all the way from the UK in just over 6 months. Took advantage of my visit to pop a new dry log book in the cache in a fresh new plastic bag, as I had seen lots of comments about a soggy log and I think CO isn't active any longer: the cache already contains two waterlogged old log books now.
Bit difficult to find and maybe who comes next bring a new notepad cause it's getting soggy! Overall a fun find!!
