Was going to do this one but closed off with fences for maintenance.
And there is a letter from the Commanding Officer of HMNZS PHILOMEL saying the park is closed as DOC say that the area is unsafe.
Cost to fix it is around $100K, have uploaded some photos.
It's a shame as the area is really nice and a great park that was cared for my a nice lady.
Cheers M+S [:O)]

Area is temporarily closed. I was in the area just walking around to find the easiest way in with the kids I wanted to jump the fence. Three navey people came out of the area saying they are doing up the track and will be working in the area until the end of Feb when it should be open again.
Had to jump a tall chainlink fence near cache. I must have come from wrong entrance. Cache soon in hand. SL TFTC
I ended up coming in from the park above, which meant fences, banks, slipping etc. Once I was on the path, it was a quick find as I could see the cache from the path. Thanks.
Got almost right to GZ and was told off quite sternly by a lady gardening that bikes weren’t allowed on the track. I quickly dismounted explained I was from Wellington and apologised profusely. This diffused the situation and she explained the area was once a naval rubbish dump, hard to believe when you see the area of lush bush now. I helped her to move some bags of clippings around to where she wanted them. She then told me that she was Polly. Polly it was a real pleasure to me and see the great work you’re doing here. Didn’t get to look for the cache, but it didn’t seem to matter after meeting such an inspiring person.
1.30pm. A gem of a walkway once we found it. We had come in from the park area and had to find a way down first. We found the logbook full so added another.

Went over to NZ for a weekend and decided to bring the GPS along. Incredible path in an amazing setting created by an incredible women. We actually met and spoke to Polly and found out that I was in the same class as her late daughters son. A wonderful person who has done such an amazing thing. Thanks to CheekyKea5 for leading us to this unique spot. TFTC. TNLN.

No 16 for the day. The boys went to find this one. Had a bit of a walk and then quickly had the cache in hand. GPS a bit off the mark but the clue helped. TFTC

A very interesting park indeed! Such a great place to put a cache to attract our attention...and it was me who played with that cow for the rest of the trip...not Glyn! I still have the cow and took it to work to show the marketing people as we have a cow-themed culture program in train at the moment so I think they're going to see if they can order up in bulk Moooooooooo!

Out with Glyn and BackPAQer today to see how many caches three guys can find powered only by Wild Bean Cafe coffee and ham rolls. The weather was wet but the spirits were high.
Cool bit of history here and Glyn found a cool talking cow. That he played with for the rest of the night.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache.

Lovely walk here and especially interesting as there was a newspaper article about this spot yesterday.
pretty park - we saw tui, fantails & kingfishers. We, too, found co-ords a tad long but the hint was spot on. Log book pretty full but cache nice & dry. Released - Cdn New Beginning geo coin; out - zip. TFTC
Found with Yeetrees on our big Auckland cache raid weekend.
Fascinating little spot, interesting to visit.

A bit of a shame that the place is starting to go a bit back downhill after all the good work done by Polly, saw signs that things are not being looked after well, love the spot at GZ, amazing how nature uses all the resources that are supplied, ADV found cache quickly. TFTC TNLNSL (943)
Couldn't find this one on the night it was published but came back to find it today. Coords are a little out, which was why we didn't spot it that night, but today after a short walk around we spotted what we were looking for. Dropped in a TB. TFTC!!!
Wonderful place. Very pleased we had the opportunity to visit.
Thanks for showing it to us.
Cache was snug and dry in its hiding place.

Out with OG Phatazz for a Geo run over the North Shore. We had a driver booked for today but he decided to stay at home (he must be made of brown sugar , NoWonderStuff ).
Receiption wasn't so good today under the tree canopy, but after reading the hint, the cache was quickly spotted.
Nice little bush.
Cache is nice and dry (unlike a other caches and the waether today)

Not sure if we arrived at GZ via the best course but after some careful bush bashing and slope sliding we arrived. What an amazing lot of work that has been done by one person in the area. Cache took a little while to locate T4TC.
Entered into the book of LEDGIN'S. Here over the ditch from Brisbane. Located cache OK after consulting the hint. Nice little Glade. Thanks cheekykea5
Nice walk through the trees. The gps directed us further afield, but we got there in the end. Indiana Jill made the initial discovery. TNLN. TFTC!
The Maiden Hair fern through here was lovely. Thanks for the journey. Interesting placement and clever . . . . slippery in the wet weather. TFTC.
Off for an afternoon adventure of caching with Indiana Jill and Seattle's Best. What a great walk, enjoyed this one - magic! Indiana Jill came up with the goods on this one. Our GPS (Garmin60csx) had us abit far from the GZ, but we got there in the end. Thanks for bringing us here! TFTC!
This is a very special place. Peaceful oasis near the busy roads. No problems at GZ, TFTC, Biggles.
Thanks for bringing us to this little park. It has some wonderful native bush. Found after a little search, enjoyed reading the history of the site.

Another of Auckland's little parks that we would never have noticed if it hadn't been cached. Took TB. TFTC.
We liked this one. An interesting sight at GZ and a very enjoyable walk along the foreshore. Unusual park with a fascinating history.
Nice hide - well done.

We have walked through here often and never new it had a cache! Found quickly (helped by the hint)
Great spot allways interesting. Used to be the old brick works, plenty of evidence still about.
My Grandson and I took a while to find the correct track to the GZ. I sicced him onto the cache which he located at the second try.
Cheers for the cache.

Walked on by yesterday, as there were two boys on a nearby bench so we couldn't search. All quiet on this return visit. Lovely area. Thanks for the useful hint to enable an easy find. Dropped off NawI's Mega Race TB. SL. TFTC.
A lovely spot, and well deserving of a cache. No sign of Polly today so an easy find.

Yes, this is a nice cache in a nice park, thanks to Polly and Cheekykea5. I wonder why people do not fill in the logbook? What's the proof, that you have been there? Dropped of TB Worldtraveller, which I picked up in Australia recently.
Came in from the top, but then realised the errors of my ways and got down to GZ. Just about to extend the search when mitchellisdabest and family came along. One of the younger cachers nipped in for the find. We were happy to share.
IN: Red Jeep, Celica TB and Minnisota Geocoin.
Discovered TB in cache.
Thanks for the hunt.

The.Pud warned me earlier in the day that Polly was working right at GZ, so left this to last. She had only moved 5 meters in an hour and a half, still to close to attempt a retreive. Got away without having to have a long chat with her though, unlike the.pud.
12.45pm. Came very close, could even see where we think the cache is. But got muggled by Polly herself.
she then gave us a history lesson in the whole glade and the goings on with pohutukawa and navy problems.
This is one the true geocaching gems that without doing the sport you would never come here.
We'll be back.
Cheers M+S [:O)]
