We had a look for this one while passing on the way back to Ashburton today. Unfortunately we had trouble getting a good fix on GZ, and the area was very overgrown. The area we assumed the cache was hidden in was covered with leaves and it was hard to know where to start, so we gave up after a few minutes. This may have been a terrain 1 (wheelchair accessible) originally but it isn’t now! It would be helpful for the CO or a previous finder to check on this one and advise if it’s still there.
Driving towards those huge mountains covered in snow was sort of cool... as was the late afternoon air as we searched in our shorts! Shorts in June... it was warmer earlier! Anyway, back to the cache. No doubting the location but took a little searching and digging before GH had this spotted.
Trip log: When cheap flights presented the opportunity to go to NZ with GreyHams, who was keen to get the 5 2000 caches and the web cam I was of course very keen to tag along. I didn't want to miss out on that... Equally as keen for those caches myself and the first chance to get the passport out in a long time and head overseas while we could. Covid Happenings of course did put the trip in doubt and a last minute effort from GreyHams to get the flights changed and it was looking like this might actually happen... until I arrived I truly didn't think it would!
The cache list was quite simple, the 5 2000 caches and the webcams. Of course we did look at others as we travelled, types, DT, not chosen which were in abundunce and caches of quality, if your cache made our list it had a quality we needed. Many thanks for your cache that helped guide us along our way.
Certainly it was a memorable time, barefoot 500 plus metres across a mud estuary of shells and crabs was more fun than it should be. As was pushing through wet thick high flax or tall wet grass across to the caches. But the most memorable would be the fog, the thickest, most relentless fog but it provided some stunning scenery at times and was just crazy.
I loved seeing all the chinese takeaways that did fish and chips, the perfect hedges and a deserved shout out to Indian Zaika for its great food! Certainly with the fog and rain it was an interesting trip and we got quite drenched at times, it hid a lot that NZ has to offer but 'it's a caching trip' after all so it ticked all the right boxes and was very enjoyable regardless. Huge thanks to GreyHams for letting me tag along while he did all the planning, booking, driving and sending in the answers for the caches... as always!

International travel!!...OMG it feels good. Grabbed some cheap flights and anxiously waited for some outbreak to derail the plan, but that amazingly didn't happen. Sure, I had to scramble and reroute our trip via Brisbane & Sydney as we were originally going through the plague pit...aka Melbourne, but we still made it.
Having done most of the North Island, it was good to finally have a crack at the South. 5 year 2000 caches and a webcam, thats a nice little haul. Sure, some of the year 2000 caches involved bush bashing....in the rain/fog/mist...but we got them all. We had lots of other little targets like getting all our types/sizes/DT, NZ in particular has so many 'Not Chosen' size caches, super rare back in Oz, so we made sure to get as many as possible. If you are reading this, its because this cache had a quality we were chasing.
As always, the Earthcaches and the Virtuals took us to some really cool places, the Steampunk HQ and the boulders being birthed at the beach being the highlights. My favourite cache though would have to be the one where we had to walk 500m over a mud flat, dodging shells and crabs with our bare feet.
This trip will be remembered as the 'fog trip' as we saw a lot of it, which meant we saw little else. Oh, that and how every Chinese takeaway also doubles as the fish & chip shop....its a thing!

Out caching with mum for the day. It was meant to be the baby expo this weekend, and I was meant to have a stall there, but thanks covid, it was postponed again... so mum & I went caching instead.
Found a few together, though I was so pregnancy tired I was probably holding us up in terms of how many we could- have found!
Thanks though to all the COs for the caches Nice to tick off some more from the map.

It would have been a quick find if I looked where it was! Daughter was just laughing at me... TFTC!!
Jude_E and I are out on a Methven circuit. We stopped for lunch at Methven. We're heading back towards Ashburton. Thanks Moneydork creating this hide. It was find 8814 for me.

I'm in Christchurch with my wife who is undergoing surgery in Christchurch Hospital and what better way to take my mind on what's happening to her than to go geocaching. I was actually down here with her about a month ago for a similar operation and it was then doing the Thompsons Track crossed my mind. I passed on it then, but when I mentioned it to a fellow cacher back home, he said to get in fast as the CO is about to archive them due to the high maintenance burden. I wonder if he has considered adopting them out.
WooHoo I've recently finished it. It took me 6h 40m with an average of 5m 30s each cache if you include the three DNF's I looked for. Not a record breaking event but I'm happy considering I was flying solo. Found 70, DNF'd 10, but in retrospect the stats should have read 71/9. My best day so far (previous was 60) and I'm not finished yet. I intend to head back to the city in time for afternoon visiting at the hospital picking up as many PnGs as possible and then go out in the evening to get enough for a century.
A QEF PnG here and another one for the numbers.

Found ... we were down visiting family at Lake Hood for 7 or 8 days ... went for a bit of a drive to fill in some time while Mrs McMike2012 was doing a separate message ... another easy find, log completed & cache returned ... TN:LN:SL ... TFTC ... #1,604 for us.
Grabbed this one on the way back from signing off Waterfowl Haven up at Lake Heron. TFTC.
After spending the weekend in Ashburton, it was time to head back to Christchurch - via the scenic route and several caches of course.
We have looked for so called MD drive by caches before and so approached this one with trepidation, but it was in fact a quick drive by! TFTC.

We postponed Monday Mad Mission 'till Tuesday/tonight due to wet dreary weather (soft much anyone?) and we spent an awesome evening caching around some very very muddy foggy frosty back roads around Ashburton. Quick park in grab on the evenings adventure.
TG and I decided to bail on our Mad Monday Mission last night as it was really rubbish,"I know" we are getting soft in our old age. The plan was to head out to Ashvegas and find a few in the area and then head home. We had mist, thick fog, clear skies, frost and a few variations in between. We ended up having to drive from Ashvegas to Bromley to snaffle a few FTFs. We had a great evening out and did 299.8km as TG dropped me off home shy of 1am.
Quick as drive by.
Thanks for the cache Moneydork.

Whoopsies logged this as a DNF a few minutes ago! Correction the cache was found without too much of a fuss, very well hidden too!

Got some cheap flights a few weeks ago so the plan was to come down for a big run in Ashburton to achieve the 120 in one day and get the gemstone. OMG! We started at the crack of dawn and finished in the dark. Foggy and cool but cleared by lunchtime. It should have been achieved much quicker. We had not really planned a route and detoured a bit. Some of this backfired as we ended up on some long gravel roads that had missing caches and was most disappointing. We got stuck for about an hour on a multi I specially wanted for qualifying for another cache which was frustrating. However, we made it - with a few to spare I believe - but are totally shattered. Too many to log individually so are doing the copy and paste. Many thanks to all who placed caches. What beautiful countryside and we love the fact we could pull over and park safely. Not keen on the many prickly pine trees so many were hidden under. The breeze only got up in the afternoon and it was a lovely warm breeze - not like Manawatu freezing winds even at this time of the year. More traffic on the roads than we expected and they fair motor along. Many thanks for the caches. It has made the whole trip worthwhile.
Found it quickly, and the youngest Gruffalo was pleased to find some Blockhead characters inside (thanks Dannyboy454!). Took 2 of those and replaced them with dinosaur figures before signing the log. Our 7th find of 9 today.
A quick find on a drive out in the country. My first after a 3 year hiatus! Placed 3 Marvel Avengers Blokheadz. TFTC #64
One of a handful of night caches today on the way back to Ashburton. A quick find. TFTC
After 3 previous visits and 3 dnf decided to give it another crack yet again and unsure why I couldn't find earlier as this time was directly obvious and first place I looked thanks to the grounds.Tftc
Was a super quick find and sign. Thanks for the cache.

#95 of 105 for the day (& a couple of DNFs). It'll take a while to log this lot! The plan was to do the Thompson's Track series (we got all 80) plus enough others to beat Bo&bronnie's best in a day. A nice easy drive by to get the numbers up- Bo's best was 98!
The last cache for the day, after our day on Thompsons Track. Found with debsnz
Another cache to add to our swag as we continue to see how many we can do in a day!
No trouble securing the cache - an easy find.

Day two of Sully1's and my New Zealand trip from Christchurch to Dunedin.
Today was only as far as Oamaru, and the weather, once it warmed up, was superb.
A couple of heavy showers throughout the day made it feel like home in Victoria.
Thanks again Moneydork

Found with bogonghazy on day 2 of our short assault of the SI, whilst here for NZ Mega. We cached from Christchurch to Oamaru today, and only a few short showers throughout the day, which didn't deter us from continuing on with a numbers run. Thanks to the CO for placing this cache and for bringing us here.
