Logs
This cache has outlived its usefulness and often gets water inside, doesn't get found often enough to warrant it continuing, so I am calling it a day.
A nice quick find. I've never walked the ridge track before and I enjoyed visiting a new area, very peaceful. TFTC
It's Waitangi Day, and I also have tomorrow off in order to get a well-earned 4 day weekend. What better way to kick off a long weekend than heading off to a target-rich environment to try for a few caches, including the much sought after (by me) Trig-A-Gnome-A-Tree, and a few others encountered along the way such as this one.
I was doing this section of my day teamed up with Paddlechick. It's such a shame that the whole area is now so bereft of trees as I could certainly have done with some shade from the fierce sun today. Suffice to say that I glowed a fair bit when I caught sight of myself in the mirror later this evening!
We appeared to be pretty much the only ones out using the track today, which meant that searching at GZ was nice and easy with no Muggles around. It really wasn't too long before we were signing the log and replacing it all exactly as found.
Thanks for setting this one up.

Heading up to do the ridge track today and this one was my first cache en route. Good camo colouring as I missed it on the first pass. Nice sized container too but yes a bit damp inside the box. Log was ok in the two bags. Thanks for the hide
Out and about in this lovely walking area with Flowerydaze. We found this one quite quickly as the co-ords were spot on and the geo-trail was rather obvious. Surprisingly the GPS was a bit patchy in previous locations so it was surprising this one was so accurate, must have been the satellites !!
TFTC in a lovely area.

What a great area to go walking in - a completely new one for Talla64 and me. I was given the task of retrieving the cache - a bit muddy but no problem. Thanks for placing a cache in this lovely area.
I scored some cheap flights to Wellington for the weekend! I had a great time exploring and finding caches!! TFTC!
Sveppi are on another outing in Kaitoke, this time having a look at the southern end of the park. The goal today is up the ridge then down the "river escape route" for a bit of fishing and scoping out the hunting area beyond. Not concentrating on the GPS we duly walked straight past 3 caches, so we grabbed this one on the way back. The escape route was very steep and led to a section of the river that couldn't be crossed or fished well in this weather and this amount of flow. Nevermind, we can now call this walk fitness training!
Getting tired by the time we returned here. Easy find, but surprised to see some moisture in the cache. Luckily someone put another logsheet in here, but this one could do with a bit of TLC.

cache was very wet, dried everything and put back, took tb, then it was time for a paddle in the cool water, tftc
Found the cache - it was pretty soggy inside. Tipped all the water out so should be good for now since its been pretty dry lately. TFTC.
Found at the start of an early morning Sunday walk halfway along the ridge and back. Very warm - 20 degrees by 8am - but very wet underfoot; there must have been a lot of rain recently. Found this after a short search in the obvious place.

TFTC container had water inside and log was also damp, but was a great spot and clue
For some reason I looked upstairs first under the pines. Once I realised my error it was a quick retrieve. The container was FULL of water but the current log was dry.
TFTC, cheers

A quick find, mainly as the cache was just sitting on the ground next to the structure. Container 3/4 full of water but the double-bagged log was just able able to be written on but starting to become desiccated. We placed an additional waterproof log in a bag to avoid the CO having to replace it.
We wern't 100% certain where the cache should be as the hint was unclear to us so placed it in what looks like a nice high and dry place under the structure.

After spending and hour or so over at Tunnel Gully I came here to walk part of the ridge track on a glorious autumn day. I didn't have far to go to get this the first one. After a bit of peering around I spotted the cache from several metres away. It was easier to get at from a different approach so around I went and found what I was looking for. TFTC.
Quick easy find today at the end of Ridge Walk. Nice opportunity to rest and look for the cache, while catching my breath TFTC
Found today with Astro Hunter. Took a bit of searching, but eventually we got our hands on it. Swapped some swag. Thanks!
Cache # 1,374

Quick easy find today - no trouble with mud after the recent dry spell.
I emptied about half an inch of water from the container, during which operation a toy soldier dressed in green combat fatigues made a leap for freedom and could not be captured. C'est la guerre!
TFTC
Quick find though still bemused by hint. TFTC BarnabysTravels, lovely babbling stream.
Easy find in a very neat place. I left a Samsung S7 Edge case to as to the swag tftc
All good Small amount of water emptied out Log a bit damp but signable Looks like a rat left callig card as icing on top! TFTC
The last cache on our 'learn about geocaching' tramp with members of Tararua Tramping Club. Traversed the ridge track, picked up nine caches, and enthused some new cachers. Lucky to have the expertise of Bruzie on the day and TheFerrett as co-leader of the trip. TFTC
I didn't get to search for this one as I arrived at the car park to find two carloads of gang members drinking and doing burnouts in their shitbox cars. I decided to move on and save this for another day.
Followed the geotrail to the obvious spot. The cache had about a centimetre of water inside but the logbook was nice and dry inside its double bag. Dried the cache and trades in the sun. Its a mystery how water can get in, in a situation like this.
Down by the stream is the best picnic area we found today (go to the lakes lookout if you must have a table).

Despite the swollen stream we managed to avoid getting wet retrieving this cache on a quick caching and dog walk adventure with DjaliDjinn.
Great hint! Not knowing the area very well, I was concerned by the name of the cache, but, fortunately, we didn't have to trek to the top of the ridge to find it. I'm not averse to a good hike up a steep hill, but today was a bit cold and windy for my liking. Fortunately I didn't get my feet wet retrieving the container ... I saved that little joy for one of our later finds. Tftc! With Yosser9

#866. Off to another road end and this time a short walk along a path. The GPS beeped and I looked around and decided there really was only one possible place for it in this location. So off the path for a look and sure enough there it was. Nice and dry inside the container. Signed the log and returned. All quiet up this path today. No muggles around in cool early winter conditions. TFTC
Cache and log book was nice and dry today. After seeing the hint I was a bit worried as my device doesn't support that type of thing, and I checked the attributes just to make sure. I need not have worried as I found the cache in a fairly obviously place, which is what I think the hint refers to. TFTC
Out and about nice and early to go for a walk and collect a few wayward caches along the way just about to rain gotta make haste all dry today
Found after a bit of a hunt - still don't know what the hint referred to! Never mind, we got the cache in the end. TFTC
Popped down to check out the cache and dry things out again. Log was only a bit damp and cache had a little water in the bottom as is often the case with this one. Spent some time drying everything out in the sun, cleaned dirt out of cache seals, placed log in an inner bag and double bagged it with a brand new outer. Log bag had been left unsealed by previous finder...doesn't help to keep logs dry when that happens. All is spotless again, ready for the next finder.
Container has water in it log book soaked. Got attacked by blackberry bush drew blood evil thing. Grr!!
A quick find after a wee walk. Thanks.
Time to head home, over the hills to Wellington.
Thanks for the hide.

First cache of the day. Managed to sneak this in before setting off on the ridge walk with a group of Scouts. Heading to the Kaitoke camp ground for an overnighter.
Found a very wet cache and tipped out lots of water but the log book is quite dry in the plastic bag. Nice geobeacon. Tftc
Out to do the ridge track there and back this morning. This was the last one today after a very satisfying walk. I was a bit creaky when looking for this, but it didn't take long. Thanks for the cache.
Mel0n and I bought new tramping boots in the sales this morning and needed to go and try them out....
PTS Suggested we came up here and saw how far we could get along the ridge. A quick find by Mel0n once a couple of muggles with little yappy thnigs (I guess they could loosely be called dogs) in coats matching their owners had decided the hill was too steep for them and left. TFTC - log damp but signable.

A quick easy find. Not surprisingly the cache was wet, but the log is usable. TFTC
Cache # 1,719 - A quick find once arriving at the GZ. Very wet underfoot today. Cache is damp inside, but logbook is fine in its protective inner over. TNLNSL. TFTC!
quick find, thanks to another log, not sure about the hint!
the cache was soaking inside the container so I drained the water out. The log itself was dry (I think- sorry I did several this morning and logged when got home).

Pouring cats and dogs as we made our way to GZ. Happy to make a quick find.
And found just as you would have expected it to be.
Cache in order; log signed, then safely re-hidden, just as found.
Got muggled as we stood about GZ and dealt with the business. But hey, the weather was so dramatic that I doubt anyone was really paying attention.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too
The Turtle strikes again!

Found at the end of accompanying a large school group along the Ridge track - an excellent walk! Soon found although I did not understand the hint. Thanks for the maintenance BarnabysTravels.
#590 Found on day 75 of a walk from Cape Reinga to Wellington. Was surprised to find a poker chip in there with my name on it! must have been moved from another cache that I deposited it in. Dropped off a TB. Cache still dry inside.
Cache container thoroughly dried out and log book dried in the sun. Junk removed from cache plus surplus plastic bags. Dry, neat and tidy once again.
Alpha Ridge (Upper Hutt) was transferred from janemay to user BarnabysTravels
My 13th cache! Clever hiding spot, enjoyed this one! Contents are pretty wet, someone left a broken toy car which I always find annoying - why not leave something another person might actually WANT to swap. TNLN. TFTC
On the way to Upper Valley, but a brief stop here. Lovely chorus of birds. TFTC
Christmas day and time to walk (wear out) the geopups prior to family celebrations. One of the geopups was a bit reluctant to cross the bridge but we got him there, cache a quick find shortly after that. TFTC
Was starting to get the hurry-up to go home from Mrs 1Grunta.
Since this was a "lonely" cache, thought I'd better grab it while I was in the area.
Didn't take long to work out the hiding place.
Quite a bit of water in the container.
