Really nice little hike up on the tallest cone on the peninsula. I have received permission from the owner to log this cache with photo proof since the box is not there anymore.
Today we took a grand tour of the Otago Peninsula. We drove from the house at the beginning of the peninsula to the Royal Albatross center. After that we climbed Harbour cone and finished off by taking High cliff road and central rd back to Dunedin. A great day which offered great views as marvelous experiences.

Such an odd cache, I only found the same as everyone else and hope this is what I was looking for.
A belated claim after viewing others' visits. The wet weather had caused a number of slips and the road to the walking track was closed. However 2 cars skirted the barriers while I was there so why not me ? It was blowing a gale as I climbed the hill and after a few pauses for breathe I reached GZ. It didn't take long to find the can, still full of beer and the black toy pistol as well as the upright stick The log eluded me and after a half hour search I gave up. I feel I have found the cache and can justify claiming a smillie for my effort.
Lovely walk up the hill with PC Sniff, but not cache found. We did find a brilliant posse, which held a can of beer and a pistol (child's toy) but no sign of a log that we could find I've taken photos of the place we were looking which I'll forward to CO because we couldn't see any other likely spots nearby.
Had time to do a few caches after attending the early morning event. Very windy with a little bit of sunshine. Great views TFTC #741
Found the case of beer, as well as the full can too! Unfortunately that is about all we saw at the top - there was a thick cloud at the top of the Cone, no views at all today! But a great hike, nice to finally get up here! We'll have to come back on a better day anyway!
Great day for a walk. Absolutely loved the views - found a new favourite walk in the Dunedin area! Cache easily located, can of beer still there. TFTC
This is another of those 'must do' walks. Cache was quickly located and we admired the view for a while before returning down the hill. Found with Aoraki Sheep.
A steep scramble to the top but the view was worth the effort. Found a box of full stubbies at GZ - who would carry them up here?? and not drink them!! Found with debsnz
Lovely day for a walk up the harbour cone. It's a pretty steep climb but well worth it for the awesome views from the top. Cache was in hand quickly and logbook signed. Then had some lunch and took some photos before starting the descent to bacon st. It took a lot less time to get back down than it took to climb up!

Took a walk up here this afternoon with my nephew. A bit of a hike and we (I) managed to step in a few of the sheep 'landmines' along the way but the view from up top certainly made it worthwhile.
Turned up the cache pretty quickly. TNLNSL. Stayed up for a while to enjoy the panorama and take some photos. Very nice walk.
Thanks

Some recent 'removal' of gorse had me thinking here. Found eventually though, and then admired the views for a wee while. TNLN. HOTA
Another awesome cache by the bohemian! This is what caching is all about, a steep climb made steeper by taking a direct route to the cache, the best panoramic view you could hope for, and a nice easy to find container. Only problem was, I forgot my iPod to tAke a photo, AND I left my green beanie up there! Oh well another good reason to return

Thought I might do this one this evening despite not being able to see the top, as the forecast for tomorrow is bad and I'm only here for a few days. A stiff walk up, with a few stops to catch my breath. My heart sank when I saw some of the gorse had been cleared, so was glad to find the cache quickly. Slightly alarmed at how quickly I got disorientated in the mist, but managed to find the way back down to the car! Thanks for the exercise and the cache!
AMAZING walk up and STUNNING view! Very well hidden - no stick in sight - so feel pretty glad we found this!
Spectacular views - worth the hike but my co-cacher forgot to take her panoramic shot!!!!
How cool to go here after looking at Harbour Cone from many places and from the air and at sea for over forty years!!! Many thanks The Bohemian for the incentive.
I have been feeling like a steepish walk for a while, and since I could see the top of Flagstaff from the window this morning, I decided that the day is good enough for this one great walk and great views of the foggy morning from up the top, TFTC!!
Wow!! Nice hike before dinner. Once again we are following in the footsteps of our friend Red Panda. TFTC.
First of the day and well worth the effort, after quite a grunt the views are spetacular. A Cruise ship was comimg into berth as well as a large ship going further down so it was interesting to watch this process as I got my breath back.
Thanks

Clear skies and no wind. A great day for a walk up Harbour Cone with a friend of Red Panda. Others must have had the same idea as quite a few muggles when we got to the summit. Quite steep but Guwapo managed the climb okay. Stunning views on all sides. Think this qualifies as a Ramble. Maraming Salamat!
Quite a steep climb but worth the effort once you are up there. Great day without any wind as this is an exposed point afterall. Looked at this hill for years but it took geocaching and Guwapo to finally get me up there. TFTC
Awesome! Amazing 360 views from the top. Quick find with the clue, and no muggles anywhere in sight. TFTC.
Another grunt up the hill for a cache. All round views from the top today. Only me and the sheep to share the experience. TFTC
After examining Dunedin's Tracks and Trails I decided this wouldn't take as long as previously thought, so with a period of free time this afternoon the kids and I dashed out and trotted on up. Okay, the kids trotted and I panted. I don't know how a four year old can practically run all the way up and down but I am jealous. Lots of sheep and lambs to keep the kids interested and the track markers made it like a computer game - there are seven 'levels' from the road to the top on the southern route up. The cache was a nice quick find and the day was warm but cloudy. The views were good and fortunately we made it down to the car before a summer shower passed through. Thanks for a reason to visit a great place!
Awesome! There is no other word for the brilliant view today (never trust the forecast, just go!).
Unfortunately we have to come back with the camera.... TFTC

TFTC. The gps showed what....????? Well obvious it was not that easy to cover that short distance!!! Was walking back wards at a time. The view is great from the cache. Stuck my sticker in logbook just before some mugglers got there. Well now I can take it off my to do list.
Caro and the other half of daywalk wish the world to know that they have now summited Harbour Cone, and the view is fabulous.
TFTC TLOR card a huge walk up but well worth the 360 view saw 2 muggles but where they disappeared too is beyond me, It was another good cache on the Peninsula and good exercise for all enjoyed this one.
Toiled up the hill in the heat of the mid afternoon. This was a popular place to be, muggles arrived just as I found the cache, and more yahoo-ed me from the top while I was away at some distance beyond.I could hear them clearly, but the wind was blowing the wrong way for them to hear me. TFTC.
Nice climb on a windy day. Was going to put one here myself until I discovered it had already been done. Took
LOTR card to place in another cache. TFTC.

Walked up right from Bacon Street. A very pleasant walk and a good workout on a beaut Summer's day.

The walk up the steep hill was torture! =P Nice views from the top, and some weird graffiti. TFTC.
Bit of slog but well worth it to get the view on a glorious midday cheers ...even the dummy cache placed by mugglettes didnt put us off, (drink bottle with a pen and note) bit of a laugh!!
The cache was visited today by 14 girls from Otago Girls' High School's Outdoor Education course. They were on a GPS navigation exercise and came looking for the cache as part of that. Cache is in good condition.
We took the easy way up for this one! The carpark is on Highcliff Rd at S 45 51.489, E 170 38.620. And yes, Vicky and I "admired the view" from every marker pole, and had a good long morning tea stop at the top. Our first time up here- it's great to have public access at last.
Found with W.E.K.A. at 8:30pm.
We were nearby, so took the opportunity for a quick detour up bosom hill. The track must have been quite steep, because W.E.K.A. seemed to be hallucinating and spotted a giraffe on the way up.
Great views from the top, despite a bit of mist.
Thanks.

nzcoozer thought the giraffe was a sea horse! A nice wee walk as it was getting dark.
Lovely day for a family lunch outdoors, and what a gorgeous view. - TB, TFTC.
This cache was the third of three on this visit to the “Otago Peninsularâ€; the other two Coastal Rambles 1 & 2. After those two caches the walk up to the top was a bit like a walk in the park (well maybe not). We all really enjoyed the spectacular views and rock formations around the top look quite impressive especially the way the columns of rock were laying.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Fantastic walk. Oliver points out "walk" suggests striding. None of that here. Think stairs (and lots of floors). But at the top a truly fantastic 360 degree view. Two enormous cruise ships in.
What a walk up there, but one of the best 360° views in New Zealand, I guess!
Nice Place, thank you!

A beautiful day for this cache. Hot climb but well worth it. We had hoped to place a cache there ourselves. Even had the cache setup and ready months ago but were too slow after the public access was made available. Fond memories with my wife of 15 years as we scaled this climb early one morning to watch the sunrise. 18 years later and with our two sons on a beautiful day we returned. Left a pewter 'Faith' and took travel bug. TFTC
Some Xmas exercise. I'm sure these marked routes weren't there last time I was up in the area. Checked on a nearby cache of mine Had to reset my GPSr before it pointed in a more sensible direction and the cache appeared. Great views of course. Cheers.
Time for a bit of pre-Christmas dinner exercise, and this seemed to fit the bill. The mist rolled in just as I got to the top so didn't see all of the view - still great though. Co-ordinates spot on and a nice hide. Thanks.
Now that was a good climb to stretch the muscles! Great views all around. Most difficult aspect: trying to find a nearby place to park the wagon - should have used the MTB! Great spot for a cache indeed!! TFTC.

Was hoping for the FTF but the higher I climbed the less I was worried about that. A most excellent spot - this surely has to be one of the best 360 degree views around!
Footnote: despite the "organ pipe" like rocks near the summit and the obvious cone shape this isn't a volcanic vent as many people think. It has a hard cap of a volcanic rock called dolerite and the surrounding softer material has eroded away forming the cone shape.

There is a spring that seaps out of the hillside near the summit. Interestingly they say when it pours with rain in central the penisula springs flow harder.
FTF. Howling wind! Never been up here before. Great views. Surprisingly boggy near the top. I would have assumed rain would have run off quite quickly. The climb got the blood pumping.
