Well, I've never been a die-heart rugby fan, but how can you possibly not enjoy the sport from time to time when we're from the greatest country in the world at rugby! Sadly I wasn't born back when Buck was in his prime, but I certainly have heard about him and his heroic efforts numerous times over the years, and especially his opinion on the haka - "If we're going to do it, we're going to do it right... perform the haka properly or not at all", which I think is absolutely correct.
Multi caches have always been my favourite cache type, and I've been waiting to complete this one for a loooooong time now as the final went missing for nearly 2 years. On the 20th September 2020, I took a good friend of mine (Henbot_66) up Mt Victoria to do the trad and this multi and possibly get him hooked into caching like I did. In the end, he did and has got 51 caches to his name, but I think he doesn't do it anymore Anyway, after admiring some of the amazing views up here, we quickly crunched the numbers and made our way to the final which was sadly missing :/
After seeing the cache was replaced recently (Thanks very much Glyn), I decided to collect this one today as my daily cache which means I now have hit 25 days in a row geocaching Hopefully I can keep it going till the end of the month. Enjoyed some of the pretty dusk views around this nice park, before arriving at GZ and making a quick find in the second place I checked. Signed myself in before replacing under some natural camo. TFTC G-2!
P.S I attached the photo I took of my friend and I back in 2020 when doing this multi... WOW, we look so young

Cache hasn't been found in 2 years. Could CO have a check to confirm whether it is infact missing? Thanks!
Got the required numbers earlier in the week and swung by this morning whilst passing. Nothing found and nowhere the cache could actually be placed.
Yeah same as previous posts, definitely in the right spot, hint is bang on, but no cache
Easy multi but final is DEFINATELY not there. The place where the cache matches the hint is perfect. I dug and dug but its 100% gone.
Did this easy multi thanks....went to multi final but could not find sorry.
Had a good rummage....2 previous finders with me too...

On my first day in New Zealand I visited Auckland and beautiful Devonport. I first walked around downtown, than I took the ferry to Devonport and walked to Stanley Point and hiked up to Mount Victoria. The day cleared up and I had a wonderful time in Auckland. This mountain is absolutely great! Thanks to everybody for all the great caches!

I solved this multi, but the cache was were I spent half of the day. So I had not enough time to go back - too bad!!

I just had to take advantage of the great weather forecast for this weekend. The decision was made to head out to Devonport to find the many recently placed caches that have appeared.
I decided to leave home early before the traffic jam I just knew Lake Rd would turn into and also to hit muggle-centric locations in Devonport before too many people were up and about.
Time to return seeing as this cache has been replaced. A couple of muggles were heading back to their vehicles, but with no one else around I was able to walk straight up to GZ and quickly find the cache. Nice to turn the frown upside down.

IuryBr confirmed with G_2 that we had the right coordinates. However, after thorough scouring of the place, we were unable to find the cache
Solved the puzzle and got the final coordinates, but couldn't find the cache, seems that has gone, talked to G-2 who will check if the cache still there or really gone.
Anyway, the time spent there so worth it, could see many places where I want to go and appreciate the view as well. This cache was well thought and I love to solve it, it was exciting and fun.
By the way, really that the cannon has fired only once and moved to another fort?

Unfortunately this was our only DNF of the day. Pretty sure we found the the right spot and as there were a number of other DNF's we will msg the CO with a picture of where we were looking with the hint. We also think it may be missing.
Got to GZ. Easy enough coords but could not find. Please update. Walk was a bit of a mish
Met up with paraonegirl and k-adventure for breakfast in Devonport and some caching. We were targeting different caches today so I split off from the others to find the few caches in the area that I hadn't yet found.
Had no issue with getting the information from the sign. Calculated the final GZ and was in the area finding another cache, so continued onto this spot. Luckily found parking, as there were sports going on in the area. Continued to GZ, where I was thankfully hidden from view as I searched. Not too many options at GZ for the cache to be, but could not find. Had to admit defeat.

We walked up to Wp1 as I wanted to log the trig point on GCA. We couldn't ignore the chance of another multi so had a look and soon worked out where GZ was. We then went into downtown Devonport for a look around (and did your 2 multis there).
Out at GZ we felt a little unwelcome due to the signage but figured others have been here for the same reason so it must be ok.
It took us longer to find this than it should, buy hey a find is a find.
Thanks for another multi G-2

I can remember the Bring Back Buck controversy very well as it was a really big deal at the time. I was living in Christchurch at the time and Alex Wylie was the coach and could do no wrong. The rumour was that Gary Whetton was scheming to get his mate Zinzan Brooke into the team and got the captaincy when Shelford got dropped.
As for the cache, the plaque to get the cache information was very cool and we enjoyed collecting the information to get us to the final. Plugged it in and got some good looking final coordinates.
Got to GZ and while it looked like a plausible place to put a cache and was the requisite distance away from another cache there were no suitable hint items. Hmmm...what to do? Had a think about our answers and got a different idea which produced a set of coordinates in view where we could see there might be a suitable hint item. So we walked across and sure enough found the cache. All's well that ends well so good stuff. Thanks for the cache, all good here.

It was a nice day for a walk up Mt Victoria, and my first ever walk up there too. Lots of muggles around today so we mingled among them and found the required information then headed to the final. We initially thought the cache might have been gone as there had been some extensive gardening work done here but after expanding our search to another hint item, Mrs Jag found the cache
While Mr Jag50 parked the car we headed up the Mt. Lots of muggles meant we had to mingle to find the information then head to the final. Mrs Jag found the cache after we widened the search
I had solved this one last year, back when you could still drive up Mt Vic. Today I was making my way around Devonport and remembered I had saved the coords in my notes, so headed over to check out the final for this cache. Quick find, no problems here, cheers
Out around Devonport today. As it was a sunny day decided to find a few caches. Great view from here. We think its the best view in Auckland! Really enjoyed finding this one as it was relatively easy to complete but still interesting. Thanks G-2.
Miss One and I found the first stage of this multi about a month ago, on a walk on Mt Victoria. This morning both girls joined me on the missionto find the final. Nice spot - we'll go for an explore around the bay now. Thanks!
I thought I had the right coords some time ago, but they resulting in nothing, so I verified that they were wrong with the CO, who was nice enough to show me the errors of my ways.
I made it a point to come by today to clear this one off my list, so this is the cache that BRING BACK me. TFTC.

At last, a find with rebel98!
I have had the required information for over 2 years, I had hoped to use it for a 7 different types of caches in 1 day challenge, but it just got too hard, and I left the find until now
Having old information, meant that I had the old hint, so after walking around a bit, I decided to check the GPS, as it had the updated information, and I see the hint had changed, luckily nothing else.
Now I spotted the new hint item straight away (rather than the old "leaning cabbage tree") and found the cache. Thanks for this multi, it was a wind swept winters day over 2 years ago when I found the required information for the solve - yeah, can now add it to my found it file.

Out and about and out caching, finally get around to tackling Buck! Heaps of people at the summit today, all admiring the views from here and I don't think I have noticed that info panel before, I must have seen it at sometime unless it's relatively new. So I gleaned the info I needed and put 2 and 2 together to get something that looks good in the way of co-ords and spent a little more time watching the world go by then off the mountain I went. Picked up a set of co-ords for another multi on the way down. Later I got to GZ and the place was deserted, the grounds here have been so busy before but not today. No trouble finding Buck, he was hiding where I expected him to be and he gave up the cache because I asked him nicely! All good here, but I do see one name on this cache page that wasn't in the log.... hmmmm.
Drove up the mountain to grab the info at WP1. Cloudy and a bit rainy today but still some great views. We were a bit surprised at how far away the final was. After grabbing some other caches in town, we made it over to GZ. Since we are not locals, we had to google the hint item since we have never heard of that type of tree. And the result from google was certainly not intuitive to us. But it did help us eventually find the cache. TFTH.
After having rather a lack of success with the nearby traditional cache, I decided to give this one a go. Indeed a spectacular view from here! No problems with the questions and after a short drive the final was a very quick find in the first place checked, All in good condition. Signed log, TFTC
We'd climbed up Mt Vic to get the traditional cache there, and I decided I may as well write down the coordinates for this one but hadn't brought any paper with me. Just as well I had a stash of tissues and was able to write on one of those instead! The maps of the harbour etc are really cool, so very pleased to come up here and see them.
On to part two: we'd finished our visit to Devonport and I decided I may as well finish this one off now as it looked easy enough. Thanks to the clue it was an easy find, but the log was too wet to even attempt to sign. #99

About to head home from the post office but decided to take a detour and get a cache I've been meaning to get for a while.

I got the information for this last week but due to it not being in the direction I guessed that information had to wait.
Today I decided to venture out to Devonport once again to grab this and another multi - and a traditional to eek me into double digits for the month.
A nice quick find despite the incredibly bad weather.

Again we failed on the third multicache. Are we doing it wrong? Is there something to find or not?
We first didn't believe to got the coords right, but then were happy in the end. Final coords seem a bit off, but the hint definitely guides you right. Make sure you don't understand 2 as multi. Multi means multi!
We had previously gathered the information required but did not have time that day to make the find. Somewhere along the way that information got lost so we needed to re-visit Mt Victoria and again to obtain the co-ordinates. Not really an issue. Great views over Devonport, the harbour and city to be had. Nice and quiet at GZ. Kiwiscot made a quick find and then we had a little walk around checking out the area.
Buck was one of Kiwis heroes growing up. Shocked when he got dropped from the AB's. 'Bring Back Buck' was a very popular call at rugby grounds for next next few years. Interesting fact: In his All Black rugby career Wayne Shelford never played against England. TFTMulti

Collected the information needed to create the new coordinates and soon realised it was quite a bit away from where we were standing. After a re-check we came up with the same numbers so made the steep descent and took the long walk out to GZ. We assumed that we had made a critical error in our calculation as we were soon to arrive at a very sacred spot. Needless to say, we didn't want to appear as a disturbance in this peaceful area so we quickly left. Having now read some earlier logs we are left thinking that we were at the right spot afterall.....................duh!
Nevertheless, thanks for the challenge and greetings from bonnie Scotland.

I loved the concept of this multi. From the fabulous heights, views and bustling activity of coach loads of people to the quiet tranquility of the level below. Thanks G-2!
Well when Buck was around, I lived in SA so this bit of NZ rugby history was new to me especially not
been a big into rugby. Interesting to gaining kiwiana though geocaching thanks g-2 great multi.
And great views from this spot .

[blue]On a holiday of a lifetime with Mr Crow (San Francisco, New Zealand and Sydney). Arrived early this morning in Auckland having "lost a day"on the flight from San Francisco. We fought the desire to sleep by doing a cache walk from out hotel in Ponsonby on the coastal route to the Ferry Terminal, took a ferry to Devonport and walked back to Ponsonby via the city. We earned our evening dinner in a fabulous Thai Restaurant but nearly fell asleep over our Phad Thai!

Went to the summit and obtained the coords but ran out of time and energy ( flew in this morning from San Francisco) so sadly didn't get to visit GZ.TFTC G-2's Bodyguard

We almost gave up on this one, but decided that we just have to find it after the loooong walk to gz. We needed to be stealthy as some people were busy in the nearby hall. After Lady Thrips discovered the bush that was described in the hint, I spotted the sneaky container. TFTC!
We learned from our mistake the previous day in trying to find a parking spot in this busy city. This time we parked our camper in a motor parked and jumped on a bus to the city. From there we caught the ferry to Devonport and spent the whole day in the lovely city, exploring it by foot.

A big thank you to all the geocache owners for being our “tour guides” in New Zealand while we are on our short holiday visit to this extraordinarily beautiful country! We traveled the North Island in our little camper van and we came across minimal damaged caches and we only had very few DNF’s.

Lived in the general area for many years but never been up here before. On this stunning day glad I walked from the bottom early, got to the bottom and walked to the area for the final. Not sure weather it was due to classic camo but a DNF (Area seems to have been 'maintained quite well') Any how a great concept and the page has lots of clues to this. Very well thought out cache. Will place on watch list and attempt again once someone has found. A DNF is better than being at work on a day like today (even though I enjoy my job) Thanks for this adventure as been to places today never before... and I thought I knew the shore pretty well.
Walked the long distance from the hill to the cache site but couldn't find the container.
Nice fun one for the day, little warm to be scaling mountains so we drove up. much quicker. TFTC
A very nice start to a cache, stunning views on a beautiful day. Then a quick, quiet find. Great fun, TFTC
Out and about to find some geocaches in Devonport today. Enjoyed some time up on the hill before moving on getting the finial. It was interesting that the security guard of the area just ask me if I have fun running around in the greenery and left without waiting for an answer. TFTC
I calculated the coords for the final during a blustery day a few weeks ago. I even went to GZ but only had a superficial look as I thought it may be missing. I hadn't realised that it had been replaced and that others had even found it that very day. Anyway, stopped by for a quick find this afternoon. Cheers for the view!
Had solved the necessary steps for this multi a month ago but unfortunately the cache was missing.
Knowing that it had been replaced, we returned to GZ (along with Vamber) to claim our prize!
Good to get this one crossed off the list.

We were out and about in Devonport again today to pick up some remaining caches with KiwifruitsNZ that we have not yet collected.
We tried this multi a few weeks earlier but the container had been muggled. This time it was an easy find, and it's nice to finally tick this one off.
Thanks for the multi-cache.

We were out and about today for a day of multis with KiwifruitsNZ.
We quickly found all the information we needed at the first waypoint and later headed to the final. We scouted the bases of many cabbage trees, only to not be too successful on this cache hide. Hopefully it's not missing!

The search for this cache formed part of another Vamber/KiwiFruitsNZ geocaching adventure - this time in Devonport.
Secured the coordinates for this cache and found GZ but, alas, could not find the cache, despite several minutes of searching the surrounding area.
Will be back to secure this one at a later date once we know that it is not missing???

We were in Devonport for the evening and collected the information for this multi, while we were up on Mt Vic watching the sunset (and a car burning on the motorway in the distance.) After taking in the sunset we eventually made our way around to the final location, where we made a quick find of the cache in the dark. Thanks for a nice little multi!

Came up through the cemetery and admire the view for a little while then picked up the necessary information and headed to GZ. We retrieved the cache pretty quickly and as I was returning it I noticed a warning sign about trespassing [?] All looks pretty public around there but who knows... TFTC
Had already visited the initial gz on a previous visit to Devonport, and took a photo for my records. So just needed that today to find final gz.

This cache made Mr P's day - I got to hear the history and legend of Buck and he got to find the final. t4tc
We went to to publishes co-ordinates to gather the required information. This is a very popular spot (& windy) today so we took a picture & returned to the Geomobile to works out where to go--2. On approaching the final WP we noticed there was a person in a hi-viz vest loitering around GZ. Was it a fellow cacher....? No it was a volunteer doing a spot of weeding literally right at the cache. Luckily it must have been the end of their shift as they went back to their vehicle & drove away and had not noticed the container. Your camo works Glyn. Quick find & so log was signed and we went on our way. TFTC.
Took hubby out for a walk to blow out the cobwebs after a late night at rugby prizegiving the night before. Parked caching wagon at bottom and walked out, checked out the bunker and toad stools before making way to Wpnt. Havent been up here since being as kid, and hadn't read the signs about the canon before, very interesting. Worked out the co-ords and told hubby we were of to very close to the site of last nights hooley. Found cache out in the open in the garden, almost stood on it as GPSr was pointing a bit further away. However realised where it should be and covered well. TFTC
Yeah!! We found it, it is really a challenge but a lot of fun!! We have placed a travel bug that needs to go back to Germany until July 2013, please help us out!!
Thought we would give this one a try even though it hasn't been found for a couple of months. We did a thorough search but no luck. Beautiful view from the summit and also saw some beautiful birds as we were walking to the cache so that helped make up for the DNF.
was a little hesitant as construction work is undergoing nearby but cache is still there.

Nice multi. I recall the events of Buck's history rather vaguely somehow but do remember the 'Bring Back' campaign. GPS didn't seem to know how to route me to the cache so I probably walked a lot further than I needed to. Got there in the end. TFTC, Biggles.
Nice view from the top. A group of antique cars visited while we were there. Weather was great, walk was good, view was clear. TFTC
been waiting for the site works at GZ to finish, will check to see if its all ok.
Council still hasnt re-instated the plaque at GZ & when I checked where the final is, the place where it was is devastated & cache gone.
Will have to re-jig this one.
