Cool cache thanks! The kids looked for a while, great spot to visit and unexpected location
Having temporarily moved down to omakau recently this was my first proper outing to tidy up some unfound caches around the area..this one was turning a frown upside down ...no chance of wet feet today the dam is very low and no water in the spillway so perfect conditions..cache was in the first place I looked all in good order..tftc
I changed my mind about my direction of travel and found myself around here. Long gravel road with a couple of closed gates to get to the.... FORD! Not for my little car, so I left it behind, put on my gumboots, and continued the adventure on two legs... Nice spot, although I am not sure how anyone could drive to it currently. As I was trying to locate the cache I clambered over the rocks a few times, until I decided it must be where the water is, deeper atm than my gumboots, so I approached gently holding on to a prickly bush and balancing on a few slippery rocks. The cache was there indeed! Quick sign while hoping not to slip into the drink, and then another clamber. Great fun overall!! TFTC!!
We had decided on a plan for yesterday but it was just too wet to go anywhere although we did get out for 3 caches. Anyway the sun was out when we woke up this morning so we gathered our gear and headed off. The first few roads we passed on the way to this cache had closed signs on them but luckily the road we wanted did not. Headed along it towards the cache and the closer we got the wetter the road got until we couldn't safely go any further. We though we might be able to follow a track to the cache but that was not so, so Andy forded the creek and wandered off up the hill. There has been so much rain that the spillway was overflowing with water. After a short search Andy managed to figure out where the cache was and retrieved it safely. Cache was still dry, so log signed then time to get back to the car. tftc
That last bit of road should be avoided by any big vans. Great site though. Water a bit low.
After a great weekend in southland and then overnight in omakau it was time to head home to Geraldine with pdaddy94 .
Unfortunately no luck recent rain may have washed it away and given the t rating thought it would be easy !!!

Good location & worth a visit for the views.Don't take your fishing rod-the trout don't reach decent size as regular dry periods drop the water level & warm temperatures kill them off. Then restocked to start the cycle again.
Thanks out for a driving lesson I had to drive up the hill, the road was a bit rough in that piece. Had been here a couple of times but before I was geocaching.
What a beautiful and peaceful spot. After carefully retrieving the cache went for a paddle which almost turned into a swim when I slipped but lovely day for it.
Wow what a gorgeous spot. Lots of fish rising. 30 degrees today so had a paddle to cool off.
Fun walk, stunning spot. Found a funny surprise which we initially thought was the cache. Returned everything as we found it.
Found after a short search today, love this dam, we used to come fishing here many years ago. A nice seat here too, sat and signed the log. TFTC
Failed to locate this several years ago but it was a quick find today. No vortex today, water level was too low but called in after panning a few specks from further downstream.
Found on 24/10/2015.
What a great spot! Never been here before but I'll be back with the canoe sometime.

Not sure if there is a route through the Naseby forest to this or not - my abortive attempt a few evenings ago was blocked by restricted access signs. Either way today we came for a nosey in here for a swim and possibly the cache. Dam was very low and muddy at the edges but had a nice swim and the place almost to ourselves bar a couple in a hilux who had the same idea. Stinking hot day of 30deg so the refreshing swim was welcome but instantly hot again on getting out. Cache was was a quick find with the cords being spot on. TFTC.
It's low! Lots of neat schist rock facing showing but still a very pretty place for a stroll. Took quite some time to find the cache- followed the GPS, and then after a bit of rock climbing looked elsewhere. Certainly not a 1.5 terrain even so. Apparently the Eweburn Dam was begun in 1898 as a major storage area for the Mount Ida race, "with picks and shovels, horses and drays, 70,000 cubic yards of earth were moved to make a 22 metre high stone faced dam".
Can't drive right to it anymore as a big rock has been placed on the track but a lovely wee walk
We really liked this one! Warm day, found cache and had a swim. Cache took a bit of time to find but well worth it. TFTC
Found with difficulty. Dangerous retrieval with high flow.

Found on a beautiful warm calm day. There is a fish rising. I might try to catch it !
I walked across and glad I did theres not much room too turn truck around . . . Nice place TFTC
A great spot for a cache although we found it difficult to retrive.A nice little waterfall. TFTC
A fine dam, rather empty at present despite the recent rain. It is along bike ride heading upstream towards the source of the race in the Manuherikia. Magnificent engineering.
I was rather surprised at the size of this dam, quite a bit of construction to build it obviously.
A nice spot, TFTC

We also tried using Reservoir Rd - we'll get it corrected promptly on the NZO Maps. We wisely took the advice not to drive across the dam, but managed to walk across in the gale force winds prevailing this morning, find the cache and return, without ending up in the water or sustaining any injuries. TFTC
Finally after finding right road in came to quite an impressive and large irrigation dam. TFTC
Finally got here after trying many back roads from Naseby. One in particular showed as connecting on the GPS but dead-ended in a quarry. Lesson: take the most direct road.
Very beautiful at GZ with the sun close to setting. Explored the track up the hill a short way but didn't have time to see how far it went.

I am pleased to have managed without the misfortunes of most of the previous visitors to this cache. New territory for me too.
Drove almost right to the cache - Very difficult to turn arround in a big 4WD, ended up backing out. A pretty dam, though about having a swim but the time pressures of geoccaching were already making us late.
Really good to have an excuse to come back here. It is a beautiful area that you wouldn't normally bother looking for.
A fall on the track resullting in a sprained ankle and numerous grazes didn't stop me finding this one!
Thanks

This cache cost us $240. A newly metalled section of the track gave us a puncture on the side wall of the tyre, ruining it. Otherwise this was an easy and interesting cache.
+ a marble, - nothing.

Spotted the right road (labelled Eweburn Dam) on the way past earlier in the day. Nice place to visit. Found the cache and was signing the log when the rock I was standing on gave way and I found myself knee deep in water. No damage done. Thanks.
FTF. I'm starting to really distrust the GoogleMaps that display on the cache pages. The one that appears on this page suggests that you need to go down Reservoir Rd to get to this cache. Do that and you may discover, like us, that a kilometre in you arrive at a locked gate. You need to use another road, not even marked on GoogleMaps, that takes you right to the cache. Not the first time I've found a problem with GoogleMaps. Interesting place.
