When Esme_Weatherwax, Kroetnmutter and I came here to see the Blue Penguins, this was a quick find.

2.50pm. Had time to drop down here before a tour of the albatross colony. High penguin aroma. Quickly located in the obvious place.

Lots of tourists around today but they were all looking towards the beach which gave us the opportunity to make a quick find. Found with Aoraki Sheep.
Container is broken but some one has thoughtfully added an outside plastic bag to keep things dry. Found with debsnz
We found this cache during a visit at the albatross station next to.

Loved the spot. Tried to make it harder than it was, but eventually found it. Dropped off a TB that was on a distance race, but by the time I got internet to log finds it had already been nabbed - hopefully the distance gets logged as I picked it up in Colorado. TFTC.
While traveling in NZ for a month from Japan with a Campervan,I visited the cache. Caches makes travels much fun. Thank you.
I'm a bit embarrased to log a DNF since someone found it a couple of days after we looked. We did have an amazing time at the albatross centre though.
another great spot. We had just seen the disappearing gun, and albatrosses, and here a seal put on a great swimming display for us really close up. Thanks
Had some great close up views of a seal swimming about down here. The cache box is broken, but the log was OK. TFTC.
found it on our day at the Otago Peninsula. The box seems pretty old though and there were lots of insects inside the cache....
8/1/13@1:15 pm. Seals about but not too concerned about what we were doing. The container is cracked and needs replaced. Cheers for the cache.
Was found by a local muggle who thought I was disturbing the penguin eggs so thought I best leave.Did manage a picture of a blue penguin.
Together with my family on a vacation trip to New Zealand. Starting at Auckland airport on transfer to Christchurch we went for a roundtrip exploring the south island. This was one of many caches we found while visiting so many nice and interesting places thanks to all the caches why I want to send a thank you to all CO for the work spent.
The lid is broken !! TFTC.

Wandered down to the beach from the RAC and found a couple of penguins staring out of us from their boxes. Was careful not to get close but managed a couple of photos from afar. The cache is the most obvious place when you find it but I missed it on my first foray and only reached further the second time around. I can confirm that the container is broken. TFTC
Braved the weather and walked down to gz. Quick find, sign as not wanting to disturb the cute wee penguins nesting in there little boxes on the hillside homes . Spotted one at home, was soooo special to see.
Out cruising along the otago peninsula caching for the day post MEGA. It was our final day of our Dunedin trip and the weather really turned it on for us! We had sun, rain, hail and snow! Just like our first day here! Awesome!!
We came down the road after the fencing contractor told us it was public land. If you use the other access that has been specifically created for the penguin viewing, you could be asking for trouble. We walked straight to the cache and then on the way back jaxon spotted a penguin at the entrance to one of the houses. Really cool but we didn't hang around for fear of disturbing them further. This is a cool area to visit but maybe it needs disabling during breeding season or move it up closer to the road so not to disturb the birds? Just a suggestion and a fav point from us TFTC!!

I don't understand how this one meets guidelines, because it appears to be inside a nesting area for the penguins. Fitzy and I didn't realise that until we were down there searching. Lots of indications that something has been scratching out underneath the rocks, and it didn't look like it was done by cachers.
I hope you might reconsider the placement of this one, and move it up the hill 100m or more so that the birds are not disturbed. Thanks.

Last day of caching today with The Machman before he heads back home to Australia.
The weather forecast was for thunderstorms and 5degrees today. Whilst it was very very windy, no thunderstorms were seen, a little rain at times it was a little warmer at 7degrees maximum but with the wind we had our doubts at times, we did notice at one cache the car said it was only 3 degrees outside, think we turned blue a couple of times
Walked to this cache from the other one nearby. Disappointed to learn we were here at the wrong time of day to see any Penguins.
As mentioned by others cache needs replacing.

My last day in Dunedin today before I head back home to Australia.
With this in mind FELIX prepared a list of the most "FAVOURITED" caches in the area for us
to complete.
A scenic trip out to the Peninsula was certainly on the cards.
What a fabulous location. Would loved to of been here at the right time for viewing the penguins. Another time for sure.
Anway a straight forward find on arrival, but yes the cache is smashed up and very wet.
But a great spot all the same.

As we pulled up it was apparent my 500 nearest caches to where I was in Dunedin the night before didn't come this far. This was lucky as the rain/sleet had just started so I took the opportunity to reload the GPS from the laptop by which time the weather had cleared again. Made our way down, and it took a little while to locate the thing. While I was searching Anna went down the hill and disturbed some nesting gulls who were most put out.
After signing the log we ventured down again skirting the nest, and managed to spot a couple of distant seals and some ducklings through the wire. Thanks wallaceDuo.

No joy here and time was ticking on. Lots of rock disturbance with the new work being carried out. Moved on.
A good cache find while in the area after attending the MEGA event.

We headed off through the gate and down the path towards the beach. The walkway made access easy. At GZ lots of signs of construction and no sign of a cache. I eventually unearthed it but its days are numbered.
Beautiful spot.

Day 3 on our 6 day caching trip to Dunedin for the NZ MEGA 2012 event with Gunnie69, Kaisho53, Ozibags, ghostgums and MrMeccano. We started early under clear skies and headed out along the Otago Peninsula through Macandrew Bay, Portobello and Harrington Point to Taiaroa Head and back through Pukehiki to Anderson Bay and then back to base in Dunedin

We weren't sure if we should go down here or not, but a careful reading of the rules found we were ok. Fourbees found the cache but it was in the need of some repairs as it was full of water.

"Keep Out" the sign said (or so we noticed on our return journey - but seems no one else was taking it seriously so we sloped down the path to GZ
Nice spot but sadly cache was a bit 2nd hand & Log so wet as to be un-signable (& no spare log sheets with us)

The group were not sure about whether to head down to this one or not as the instructions on the gate were not really that clear... Having seen people down there as we drove up though, we figured why not... We trundled down the path and snapped some pics at the bottom, before heading to GZ to snare the cache. TheFourBees came up with the goods but the news wasn't that great. You already have the NM log from Ghostgums and all the successive logs state the condition of the container so no point repeating.
We couldn't add our names to the log as it was too wet. We did have stickers with us but even that would have got wet and unreadable. So, we tucked the container away as best we could and headed back up the path. As we got to the top, we noticed a construction sign that stated authorised access only... OOPS... Then we thought if it was that important, that sign would have been plastered all over the gate, not tied to a fence around the side...
A nice spot, glad we went down... Found with fellow Queensland hunters Kaisho53, OziBags, TheFourBees, Ghostgums and Mr Meccano.
Cheers wallaceDuo.

Found at 12:51 PM GAFF5 in the company of Browngang and Juddda. A bit out of the high winds down here. This place is like a mini Phillip Island where thousands of penguins come in each night to roost and feed their young. Like the roosting boxes - do the NZ penguins need assistance?
Thanks wallaceDuo

We arrived to see evidence of a lot of works happening in the area and some areas cordoned off. There was nothing to say we couldn't enter the walking area so off we went down to the viewing site. Saw the nesting boxes for the penguins along the way.
A search revealed a damaged cache container, probably the casualty of some rocks being moved. Unfortunately we didn't have a replacement container so we added our sticker and put the damaged container back in it's position. TFTC WallaceDuo.

The log book is wet, but might consider to take the container away, because soon it will be closed for public and you will have to pay to grab the cache. Enjoyed the place, but no penguins spotted.

Found in between muggle families coming down for a look. One 'local' sleeping on the rocks nearby.
Totally BF (first in NZ and really nice one:). Before I have left home I had downloaded almost all the caches in NZ. In some places the cache-lacks stayed. Dunedin, resp. Otago Penninsula was in one of the lacks - it means I had downloaded no caches in here.
In the morning We had waited for blue penguins. No penguins for us today but I was starring under the skirt of my new (girl)friend and my experienced geo-eye have found this cache:) Lovely...luck, isn´t it! TFTC!

How this area has changed. There used to be a lovely beach that was well used in summer. Now it's all fenced off and covered in rocks. No wildlife around today just tourists. TFTC
This used to be a lovely beach, no fencing, rocks, signs, steps, general clap-trap and we used to love seeing the little Blues. The special area has been 'managed' (ruined ?) very unsympathetically, but thanks for the cache.

my daughter nearly walked into a seal sun bathing just 10 metres from the cache, very nice
The cache was easliy spotted and the muggles were distracted by the Ocean. Enough time to log it. Because the penguins came out of the water at approx. 19:00. What a nice treat at the end. TFTC.

found late evening, waited till dark, then we saw a whole raft of penguins arrive, what a treat.
One of the pinguins stayed home from school, so we could see him in his(home) hole in the middle of the day. Great place!

Easy find, thanks. The cache needs a new logbook though, as the old one is full and me many others write their logs on scraps of shop bills, etc. We saw a blue penguin on the nest nearby, which was very cute.

Several dead seagulls on the walk down, wonder if they are posioned?
At first glance it looked like the area was out of bounds, but when I parked at the bottom gate I realised that the gate was locked to prevent cars entering and access is via the stile. Found the cache quickly as it was still quite early in the day and there was hardly anyone around. The dead seagull still guards the cache! Well worth a visit at dusk to watch the blue penguins come up the beach to their nests. Volunteers are there to answer questions and it's free! TFTC!
