Needed a cache today. staying with a friend in Wellington so we came for a drive to Makara. Was gathering the info for the LAB and was just over there. This one took way too long to find but finally tracked this elusive one down amongst the prickly stuff. Cheers
Didnt bring a pen on this one somehow but found with Finikifam and BraeFindsStuff!!
The box is dirty, bit of a mission to extract. Awesome views up here.Log in good order. TFTC
Woohoo! Mr PJNinjas dived in to get this one. This is our #600! Gorgeous day, gorgeous scenery, and we've got it to ourselves! TFTC
I was out and about around the Makara area this afternoon and finding a few geocaches while I was at it. I found myself at Makara Beach and decided to take a brief walk around the coast. I checked my 2D geocaching map and saw the distance to this one wasn't too far so decided I would attempt it. There was a bit of drizzle falling but the distance wasn't too far so I left my water bottle and jacket in my car. Bad idea.
I started strolling around the coast and after a wee walk, I soon reached the bottom of the track leading up the hill. I began making my way up it towards the cache and soon reached a small outcrop which had a a stunning view up and down the coast. I still had a long way to go to this cache so I continued making my way up the hill. After a few more minutes of walking, I was starting to feel thirsty and began regretting not bringing my water bottle along with me. I considered turning back to the car, but I checked my GPS which showed me slowly getting closer to the cache. It took quite a fair amount of walking, but I eventually made it to GZ, wet and thirsty.
The views up here were amazing and I had a great time checking out the nearby bunkers. But now it was time to find the cache. My GPS was constantly pointing me to a certain area, which I continuously failed to yield the cache to me. I expanded my search area slightly but was still unable to locate it. I had walked a long way to this area so I wasn't planning on giving up that easily. While continuing to search possible areas, I eventually located the potential object being referred to in the hint, some distance away from my GPS. I had to walk around some bushes to access it from the other side but was hugely relieved when I saw the cache sitting next to the object. I opened the cache and signed the logbook before replacing back in its hiding spot.
After rehiding the cache, it was time to begin the trek back down the hill to Makara Beach. The walk back to Makara was significantly easier than coming here, and I was very happy when I eventually made it back to my car to rehydrate myself. Thanks for placing this cache here and for bringing me out to this awesome location

Belated log. Found while on a loop walk on a perfect calm and blue sky in Makara. Tftc
Out with Flowerydaze on a lovely summer day with no wind so the turbines were hardly rotating. Almost gave up on this one bit Flowerydaze persistence paid off. All good here TFTC boxhill.
Talla64 and I are enjoying a caching experience in an area completely new to us. We couldn't have chosen a better day, absolutely windless (that must be unusual), hot and sunny. Great scenery. Thanks for placing a cache here boxhill.
A lotttt of bush bashing before we found this one, but a find nonetheless. Left with a few cuts and scrapes from looking in the very wrong place, but at least we got our names on the log book! TFTC
A perfect day to go out to West Wind, looking for caches - I didn't do the loop, but came out here to find this one and take in the views. Plenty of muggles about but I was able to duck into the scrub and hide my activities. Cache was found relatively quickly. Signed and replaced. An interesting location. All good here, and TFTC
A lovely adventure, a bit of a prickly find but a find it was, and what a view, wa also happened to have amazing weather so thankful for that
We were too rushed last weekend to find any cashes on the way from our Makara loop walk but this time we decided to come back and find a few!
First we went a little bit in a wrong direction and found ourselves in front of gun emplacements. Turned into the gap right in middle of them and then it was just a few meters. Another easy find!
Looks like the cache has been here for a very long time! But everything is quite tidy, bagged and dry! Log book is almost new! Great location as well!
TFTC!!

A good walk up from Makara Beach, to walk around the wind mills. Thanks boxhill for the cache.
Searched every bush, could not find a rock, having difficulties with my GPS tonight so making it hard slog in this heat
Lots of options here but I just had to keep my eyes open for the hint object. Found it after a few minutes. All good here. TFTC.
Out for an adventure with Makarini. Must admit we did a bit of unnecessary bush bashing before coming across it quite easily (after checking the coordinates lol). Great spot to have lunch and watch the interislander.
Terrific! Thanks for this one- took a while but we got there on the end! Introducing Little Wander to the thrill today
I struggled to find the right bush here but got there after searching quite a few of them It was the only visible rock so that helped me
All very wet in here Used a bit of RITR paper so that should help the future cachers too
Very calm up here today with glass-smooth sea down below and the odd fizz boat gunning about Perfect time to be here
Thanks boxhill

We were both keen to get away from the farm for a day, so as soon as level 2 for the covid 19 pandemic started we headed out for a nice walk and to get some caching under our belts again.
It was a lovely day with what I'm assuming is a fairly mild wind for around here, although I did have to tighten the hat to ensure it didn't keep blowing off.
No problems making the find, and we signed the spare log and left a pet rock - a hedgehog.
We then doubled back to do the Opau loop track.
Thanks for setting this up and bring us to this awesome area.

Tftc on this nice day walk. But the logbook gets more than wet, need maintenance.
Found this after a bit of hunting around. We had originally planned to find a bunch of caches on the Makara walkway, but it turned out to be hard going that day and we were only able to find a couple, this being one of them! TFTC.
Out for a walk on the Opau Loop Track with Kyb3r. Found this one before commencing our walk
Found the cache easily enough on a detour from the Opua Loop Track. The wind has died away this morning and the views are spectacular.
Holy amazing day for this place! Thank you thank you. Found with visitors from the states. Incredible day!
Cache is wet but gets favourites from us. I appreciate it.

Walked up from Makara Beach and found this on our way to do the Opau loop. I was expecting this to take a while as there were so many possibilities but found cache in the first place I looked. tftc
didn't realise the cache had been disabled but found it ok today, the log book is slightly damp and the pages are starting to fall out but I managed to sign it ok, though not sure if in chronological order! Enjoyed the loop walk, haven't been to Makara for years, and it was a beautiful day for it. TFTC
After 3 DNF’s looks like it maybe AWOL. will check things out in the next couple of weeks.
No luck for us either, a bit disappointing after a hot walk up in the sun. Spent 15-20 mins searching, plenty of the first hint item but didn't see any of the second. Plenty of other tracks through the area too (we wouldn't have helped) which confused things. Alas. Hope it's still there somewhere but well hidden..?
Spent about half an hour here with taybeedragon. No find Hmm... that's three DNFs now. I wonder if it is missing? Gun emplacements are interesting
Spent 5-10 minutes looking around with no luck. my gps was a bit all over the place which didn't help things. I will have to track this one down another day
By good luck rather than design we found ourselves here with a mild southerly, as suggested the best time to visit and it certainly was lovely here today, a marked contrast to the previous couple of days. The cache was a quick find. TFTC
I had some time to spare in Wellington and had never been to Makara before so headed out to explore for an hour or so. I ended up being here for about four hours as I took photos and wandered round to the gun emplacements and watched the sun drop below the South Island, while sitting on the cliff edge in winds so strong that it was difficult to stand up unaided. It was disappointing to find the gun emplacements fenced off, but the views more than made up for it. While sitting on the bench waiting for sunset I decided to check the app for caches and found one just a few metres away. I had to retreat into the bunker to log the cache otherwise the log book would've possibly ended up near Wainuiomata! Log was a little damp but signable. TNLNSL TFTC
Heading out to Makara on a mild August day, and it's International Geocaching Day. A quick find once the GZ was reached. Amazing views. Second log book a bit damp so let it dry in the sun for a while. TFTC
Yes! Last time I was here spent 20 unsuccessful minutes looking. This time took me only a few minutes searching.
Wanted to have a look at the gun emplacements! Shame it's all cordoned off these days. Very windy here today. Cache container quite wet inside. Log slightly damp but still easy to sign. Put log in a new dry snaplock bag! TFTC
Brought my bike up from Nelson to do some of the geo tracks around Wellington and ended up with a few magic days both sunny weather and very little wind first mission was the track around the wind farm and grab a few caches
Great day in Makara. We did Makara Walkway and Opau Loop Track. Found some caches here and some left for another time. TFTC
Nice lookout from here on an autumn afternoon. Only a bit brreezy and nowhere near as bad as I'm sure it can get here. Just like the boxhill cache I found just prior to this I took longer than I should have to find it even though the coords are good and it's hidden in the logical place. A fair few muggles around today but none posed any problems. Thanks for bringing me here.
Fourth grab on my trip to West Wind today - surprisingly easy to grab and log without being noticed by all the muggles around today! *TFTC boxhill #66*
7 January 2017 14:53. Himself met one of his workmates on the way to this one! Found easily once the phone GPS behaved itself. Another one for the DGSC challenge tally, TFTC
#2612. Sunday dawned bright and sunny. We haven't been out to Makara in almost 2 years so I persuaded a few of the GSEL team that the time was ripe for another trip to walk the hills in this area. It was blowing a bit harder than in the city but not as severe as some days we have spent in this area. Enjoyed the walk up to the ridgeline to the gun emplacements. Fabulous views and the seat provided was appreciated. Plenty of hint objects to check and we searched a few of them before spotting the container. The logbook was dry and well sealed in its bag. Replaced cache with the extra cover back on top. Thanks for the cache.
This was a much easier walk than I was expecting - largely flat or gently sloped wide tracks all the way. The biggest problem was avoiding the cow pats within 20m of GZ, and trying not to fall into the one just 500mm from the cache!
TFTC!

On a MTB ride around the Opau Loop Track collecting caches on the way.
Cache strewn around at GZ, might be an animal of some type as a $2 coin in the cache was not taken.
Log book totally soaked so replaced with a new one in a sealed bag.
Rescued Travel Bug SGHG6W who luckily was still close by.

[ ] Lovely day to cache on the South Coast. Nice quick find, everything in order. T4TC!
We've not been down this track before. Youngest Paua Ranger, who was very reluctant to come outside away from the computer, really enjoyed looking round the old buildings. Great views today and light breezes. TFTC!
I've been here a few times before, but in my pre-geocache era. So it was a great opportunity to revisit the steep climb, great views, and breathtaking winds.
Cache found without difficulty.
Thanks

stunning day up here today with views in all directions. Always amazed by the out of the way history we have in our out of the way places. No exception today. Thanks for the cache.
Bit of a stumble upon find, didn't have out phones with us - so weren't really looking, however as the little one had a call of nature we found a relatively quiet place and then they thought they would play amongst the shrubs etc, and viola there it was - hopefully only noticeable because we knew what it was.
A beautiful day today - not a breath of wind. Never been up here so it was a great day.

Decide to run in a different area today and Makara looked good as there are a number of caches that can be done together. The day was overcast with cloud at turbine height and only a moderate breeze. I thought my plans were going to be scuppered when my GPS put me in Porirua. Ah ha I thought I will use the printout I did last night for just this eventuality - wrong I left them sitting on my desk. So in the end I used my least reliable piece of equipment - my memory. Managed to get this and a couple of others but not as many as I had hoped. It does give me a good excuse to come back another day.
found today while out doing the Makara Bay caches with TregearP and SJT_NZ. TFTC windy today and thankfully not too hot.

Found today with TregearP & Jojo&Dobby.
Great to come back here (as we have a number of times) as it was on the grass just in front of the gun emplacements where I proposed to my wife - a still and clear Friday evening with views over the Cook Straight, Marlborough Sounds and round toward Golden Bay.
Thanks for bringing us back here - and accordingly a Favourite!

SJT_NZ and I got engaged here quite a few years ago, easier to get here by helicopter but an enjoyable walk and great to have a cache to visit now. TFTC
