This hasn't been found for almost a year now, and maintenance was requested three months ago.
I would be pretty sure that the waypoint is gone and that makes the final pretty hard, however, today I had nothing better to do and, as the suggestion seems to be that it is in the tunnel, I decided to search the whole tunnel. Nothing! I did find a couple of likely looking holes - both empty, but I searched every nook and cranny on both sides and I'm pretty sure I would have found a 440ml snap-lock.
Furthermore; if the cache is at the far end of the tunnel, there has been a slip and the boardwalk at the end is closed so that area is out of action.
Please and thank you. Raabie.

Looked for ages for WP1, but without that I figured there wasn't much point in trying for the final.
Was passing by with RadioNut, hoping to stop and search. But we continued on..... must return one day, as this is a great spot!
Any chance of an owners check in the next couple of weeks? We will be in the area then, and would love to look for this one in such an interesting spot.
We had a DNF on the previous cache here in 2006, it would be great to overcome that defeat!

:[ went to WP1, spent aboput an hour there trying to find it but still dnf. i also lost my gps and torch while looking so got very angry with myself, but then found them both so we (me and my dad) went into the tunnel to see if we could still find it. no luck.
Finally got around to driving up here to find this cache - only to not actually find it (guessed where it should have been from the logs) or the 200ml waypoint container.
Will need to come back once a few more people log it found.

A great place for a cache! We almost gave up on it, then we spotted it. TFTC from N.Ireland.
Tunnels freak me out, but did this one in the company of others, and it was fun - truly!
Driven by this walkway many times on the way to Central without stopping, and now I'm glad I've been here at last. Thank you!

We've been here before several times, just for the tunnel and also to try to find one of the earlier caches here http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=4a3a302b-b9a3-4944-9125-fdd174fc1f3b Today we persuaded our caching assistants to come with us to look for this beauty.
This cache freaked me out for a sec..... going 50m into the tunnel was a little daunting..... I kept thinking of the quakes in Chch and what would happen if one hit here.... freaking myself out wasn't a good idea!!!
I just kept moving looking side to side down the tunnel and managed to spot it easy enough. TFTC
If it doesn't freak you out too much, try turning your torch off and looking up - there are a few glow worms up along the ceiling of the tunnel... cool!
Thanks for creating a cache that pushed my phobia boundaries!

That was a good fun cache. Always thought the tunnel was much further from the road.

This is an excellent cache to do! The boys were in awe of the tunnel and a little unsure until I was able to convince them there were no bears or lions living in there. Given the relative ease in finding most caches it was nice to have a challenge with this one! Thanks!
I have been wanting to visit this tunnel for some time so great to get the opportunity. Lovely walk and found cache once we had interpreted the description correctly.
Thankfully the caching bag has a couple of torches stashed for occasions just like this! What a cool stop for the juniors ! Thanks for bringing us here, Lehcier.
It took two walks through this tunnel to find this cache. First trip we had to wait for touring muggles to leave. Well hidden.
Number 44 for the day.

A fun little walk through the tunnel, very cool indeed. Took a little hunting to find the cache. Cheers Gav [7249]
A fantastic cache concept. Took us a while to find - partly due to muggles but more because we throught we could dhortcut it - we couldn't.
@1525 Took a bit of finding. We squelched along in the near dark, our torches not being quite up to it. We got dripped on. We managed to be a bit bumble footed at times. BUT we FOUND it !!!!
Now off the TF list where it has been for far too long considering the number of times we have driven past here on SH8.
Thanks Lehcier,
Jim

I have been here many times before, but that was before caching. Found first WP easily then it was off into the tunnel with the family. Love the walk through the tunnel, would have been amazing to be in one of the small emergency alcoves when a train was passing. Saw some glow worms on the way back as a bonus too. Thanks very much!
1645hrs Well this was fun. Didn't have anything downloaded but thought someone must have hidden a cache here (guess who) So we looked around thinking where would we hide a cache. Ah there it was, the first one, with instructions where to find the final cache. Oh well back into the tunnel again. We had already been right to the other end and back earlier. Good exercise to do it again. Thanks for the fun. The Italian Job was here......! Our blog www.motorhominginxs.blogspot.com
This one was a firm favourite with all the family - we all loved the tunnel - and to think how many times we have driven past here without stopping! Took the cute dog puppet travel bug which was played with all the way back to Dunedin.
Awesome spot for a cache loved the wee walk in too cheers the teen girls had a blast..alternately freaking themselves out then laughing..oh to be young!!!
Driven past many times but this time we stopped. Place travel bug (48CR13) in cache.
Found after a bit of working out. It helps if you take the decrypting code or a pen with you. TFTC
Great idea for a cache. I really enjoyed this one and also seen some glow worms. TFTC.
This was by far the most interesting cache hide we've found on our road trip - nice to find a cache that isn't just a plastic container chucked in a bush! TFTC.
Definitely the most fun cache I've found so far! We arrived at about 9pm and had just enough battery power left in the torch for a return walk through the tunnel. Much darker in there than expected; was great to see the glow worms. Took awhile to find the waypoint after inadvertently loading the carpark co-ords into the GPSr. TFTC!
Didn't have a description, if fact didn't know itwas a multi, nor did we have a torch. Despite that found WP 1 easily and set out into the tunnel, thinking we might find it in the dark. Who should we bump into (literally) but another orienteering friend and his kiks who had a torch!!! Great cache.
Neat hidey hole cool tunnel walk. Can recall come to a place near here 50 odd years ago when a rail engine rolled the tracks somewhere near too much speed for a corner. As day was getting late we decided to camp up in the camper at the start of the track. TFTC.
Nice place. Walkways is kept in good state. Sneaky hide. You have to find it from the right angle.
Called in to check as the last find was a non find. sure enough cache had gone. replaced with another cache container, if people hide it as the found it muggles should not see it.
did not find ,found a place that looked like it could have had a cache ,but nothing there .may be needs checked?
yes!!! found it,saw a few glow worms in the tunnel.
in............Ford keyring.
out.............yellow bouncy ball.
there were two muggles, but managed to look busy untill they passed by.

[:o)] Really enjoyed this find, had to pace it out. Glad I took a torch, its a must. In Golf Tee . Out plastic toy. TYFTC
This is a great location, a bit of deja vu with a cache in the Nelson-Murchison area. These old tunnels are great feats of engineering for that era. Cache was soon in hand.
Supervised workers were busy upgrading the track from the carpark.
Cheers for the cache.

ah, one of these caching magnet areas (or graveyards?). Quick grab of the waypoint. That tunnel is pretty long. Turned up the cache with a lengthy search - last one for the day before back to Dunedin. Didn't even lose my GPSr signal!! Thanks and cheers.
A very enjoyable cache. Had thoughts as to whether we'd have time to do this or not, but hoped we could wrap it up quicker than the signs suggested, and that was how it turned out. Things worked out well. We didn't decode the hint, and hoped for the best. It is surprisingly well hidden. TFTC.
Cool tunnel, easy find. No matter how far we walked the tunnel just seemed to keep stretching further and further! Very deceptive . TFTC
Nice and dry in the tunnel, took a while to find the cache
Enjoyed the history of the area.

Definitely know this spot! Had a cache in the vicinity myself at one time. Hadn't realised there were glow-worms in the tunnel. Reasonably straightforward find.
This cache was spoilt a bit by an !!!! officer issuing me with a $170 speeding ticket. Always enjoy this sort of cache. TY.
That was rather fun
We had found the earlier cache at the entrance to the tunnel, some time ago, after several attempts. Fortunately only one trip was required this time.

Had looked for, and failed to find, the previous cache on several occassions. Glad to finally get a smilie from the location. Excellent cache setup and hide, good to real use of the big hole! Thanks.
FTF and a great reason to return here, good walk through the tunnel
as a bonus. Sneaky hid. TFTC
