After a night of absolute carnage weather the morning was a wash out. Rain rain rain and wind wind wind. Gladstone had no power or Telstra so again our climb of Mt Cameron was thwarted. We were booked in at the pub for Sunday roast (Pork and apple crumble) and once we checked the pub was definitely closed we decided to get our arses in gear and head out for a drive during a break between storms. Fortified with scrambled eggs and smoked salmon on toast we headed to Tomahawk for a couple of caches. It was nice to blow away the cobwebs. Spent ages here but no cache found. The area looks quite different to photos in the logs so wonder if this is still here. Needs an owner check Id say, previous logs report that cache was damaged.TFTH the bridge is cool

What a beautiful spot. Box is broken, found the cache out in the open. Log is soaked and can't be written on. TFTC
Found it but was few meters off. Bring pen because none in cache. Thanks for the cache.
Today we found Hawkriver (formerly Hawkbridge) on our travels. We are on another visit from Melbourne just because…well, maybe it’s all those puzzles we solved during those many lockdowns! Having the opportunity to sign some actual logs is exciting!
Thanks GabMil for being part of our geocaching fun.

Finally can mark this cache off, log was very wet, we left a sort of scratch on it.
Found but definitely needs maintenance.
With the cracked lid, it was totally full of water.
Drained the soupy mas and put a sheet of paper in.
Left upside-down so it wont refill

On a road trip from Hobart to Stanley with my mum over 2 weeks. We visited a number of towns and we were mainly targeting Virtuals and Earthcaches due to the amazing locations they take one to. We did pick up the random traditional, multi, puzzle, wherigo and even a couple letterbox caches whilst travelling.
Today its St Helens to Bridport via Gldstone and South Mount Cameron. Once again we followed some of the interesting geocaches like the Earthcaches and Virtuals to fulfil our day and give us interesting places to visit. The Lil Blue Lake was certainly a surprise for us as we were not expecting such intense colour. Made the find on this one, however the CO needs to give this one some TLC as the cache is cracked and it was full of water and unsignable. We emptied the water out however the whole container needs to be replaced.
Thanks for placing and mainting this awesome Geocache GabMil

day 3 of our 5 day camping trip travelling starting at Bridport and ending at Policeman's point to celebrate our 23rd wedding anniversary saw us in Tomahawk today after camping last night at Ransons beach. parked at the parking spot just near here and together with our geodog we set off to grab a smiley and head to little Tomahawk Isl for another. closet we got to Gz was 5metres so we had a look about and quickly found the cache. the area was a bit smelly so we signed, crossed the bridge and kept going towards the Island. Everything in dry condition tho container is quite brittle.
We found this one today whilst our and about. Rode was out so we approached along the river bank as opposed to using the walking track. That said find was quick. TFTC from the inspectorrexteam.
Having camped at Waterhouse for a few days it was time to wend our way home, via Tomahawk. Gale force winds predicted today so stopped here for a quick cuppa and a cache. Lovely spot. TFTC

Out and about for another day on the road in Tassie. There was no rain today but the wind was freezing, so put on the coat and picked up only a few, as passing through the North West area. Stopped off and discovered some great find and the scenery was spectacular along the way.
What a fantastic area and the new bridge is a great addition. This was an easy find, as it was out in the open. Signed log and replaced it to it's appropriate place. Will have to come back as the tide was too high to the nearby hide.
Thanks GabMil for placing the cache and doing the maintenance, so we can enjoy the find.

After some kung fu fighting with March flies finally found. Definitely worth the drive to Tomahawk! TFTC
At first I was going about it the wrong way, cursing the goddesses that there was no bloody rock. Tftc
Tassie Trip Day 199 - We decided to go for a little drive today with a trip to Thomahawk and collect what we could along the way. This was a nice trip for a great day of caching and a great little trip into the nearby bush.
This was a nice place to find a cache in and after collecting it one went toward the island but alas the tide was doing the wrong stuff so it was a miss but this was a great spot to cache in all the same.
Thanks GabMil for this wonderful place to cache.

Found at 3.40pm on a sunny but windy day, the new bridge was humming away. We were too late for the tide for the isle cache, but a wander along the beach was lovely.

A bit of a windy day, the bridge was humming with the wind going through it. On to the beach and could easy see it but this little chick doest like having her feet of solid ground but pulled on my big girl pants and went up the bank!! Thanks for the hide
Taking a very circuitous route from Hobart to Stanley found us at this very scenic spot, and of course, another cache. A nice short walk and after a bit of a search the treasure was found. Thanks for putting a cache here GabMil.
Today we are enjoying the Bay of Fires coastline before travelling along the north coast back to Georgetown. We have loved the variety of coastal and inland scenery. This was another lovely spot to walk to and enjoy the view. I’m so glad we made the detour to your town, it is really lovely and we’d love to return. Thanks for the cache.
Parked up and wandered down to GZ before starting my search, fortunately it wasn't long before I hand the cache in hand as it was starting to rain. Signed log and returned as found. TFTC GabMil
Having a good look around nice area and good find this one TFTC . Touring with Swampy and VK7HCH
Staying in Bridport for a few days so that we can explore this part of Tassie, which we haven’t been to before. We won’t be able to get all the caches we want to this time due to time and tide!!! But we are discovering some really interesting places!! Once we realised where we had to go the cache was quickly found!

Looks like they built a new bridge! We used it to try & get to hawkisle whilst staying in Tomahawk for Christmas, found this cache along the way tftc
Finally, I made it to Tomahawk. I have wanted to come here for so long and have been close but never quite made it until today. What a great spot! This was our first cache in town and we were impressed by the new bridge here and of course all had to try it out.
We all looked toward GZ except 1toolman who just ploughed straight in and grabbed the cache. Oooh, a nice size one
We dreamt of heading out to the island but the tide was too high and there wouldn't be enough time so we'll have to come back one day.
A great day out for us with TazScout, 1toolman, Stainless steel rat and Mrs SSR
thanks GabMil for bringing us here.

We made it to Gladstone and a call was made as to which town we would visit for our last caches of the trip, Tomahawk won out, we parked up as near as we could and then made the short walk to ground zero where toolman was off like a rat (i felt proud) into the bush while we were all still looking for a way in and came out with a good sized box, we all added our names to the log before replacing and then taking in the views.
Thanks for the cache.
This trip to the North-east all started thanks to a facebook post by DaryVafder saying she had done Tunnel for Tin and after looking at the listing said that I would add it to my to-do list, that was on the 12th off August, not long after the idea of a NE trip was discussed with Goose of GooseandEgg and before long the Egg and Mrs stainless-steel-rat were on-board too, with the idea of a weekend away sounding like it fit the bill quite nicely.
While chatting about it an old Tassie caching buddy 1TOOLMAN who has now moved back to the big island (he couldn’t hack it down here) chipped in saying would we mind if he joined us. So it went from idle chatter to flight and hotel bookings in no time at all, we had a couple of minor changes of plans due to flight times and when people could get away from work on the Friday but other than that we were all set.
Myself and Mrs SSRat had the Friday off so we drove up via the North-east coast to collect a few caches we needed and were the first to arrive at our chosen accommodation Anabels of Scottsdale at just after 6pm and we had the fridge full by 20 past
GooseandEgg were picking 1TOOLMAN up from the airport but it was delayed, so by the time they got to the hotel it was almost 11pm and we had already eaten and Mrs SSRat was asleep, so it was a quick catch up over a couple of beers and off to bed to be fresh in the morning for the start of our North-east caching fun.
On the Sunday Tazscout joined us at our hotel and for the day making the searching team even stronger.
All up over the long weekend we found 28 GC and 17 GCA caches making a total of 45 all up.

Well it seems the cache can once again be called Hawkbridge as they have replaced the footbridge. Stunning spot, the water was so clear you almost couldn't see where it stopped on the sand.
A really great day out with GooseandEgg, SSR and MrsSSR, and 1Toolman.

One of the easiest but hardest finds yet. The walk to the location was a lovely beach walk, spotting where we thought was likely hiding place was also easy. The retrieval was a path through thorny shrubs and a big black insect (guarding the cache) who stung me. Perhaps he is dead now. Fantastic location for photography. Kutgw

While on my trip around Tasmania looking for caches, this one was found.
An early morning start after staying at the Tomahawk caravan park, I was now into my last day and now I'm headed for Devonport and the boat ride back home.
Before leaving this little town out in the never never, I thought that I should find the caches around here.
I had noticed the DNF's on this cache so I wasn't expecting to find it but as I was here, I might as well have a look.
I made my way to GZ and then had to find the way in, I couldn't get there from the path so I went down onto the beach and then had to climb up the metre high bank. Once I was up I spotted a rock and underneath it just happened to be a cache, I was surprised that I had found it so easy after reading the previous logs.
I signed the logbook and replaced where it was found, so I is all good for others to find this one as well.
**Thanks to GabMil for placing this cache.**
After a long search it was a DNF. Bit disapointed. However was still a good walk.
Me and bluegolfball couldn't locate it as she said it looked like it had all been washed out, but it also has changed a lot down here since I was a kid!
Could not find this one today. The ground looked like it had fallen away a lot perhaps in last weeks rainfall so I'm not sure if the cache may have been affected.
Not for us today, we will be back as we want HawkIsle but the tide was against us today
Impressive bridge! Quick find. Wanted to walk out to island but tide was not our friend this visit. I'm definitely coming back

The impressive new footbridge was a wonder to behold today as it was in full flight performing it's extensive repertoire of all-singing all-dancing vibrate-athon routines in the stiff breeze. Looking for the cache was almost an afterthought once we'd marvelled at the all the humming and trembling going on. As others have discovered, we too copped a sharp nip from the local cache guardian but escaped to tell the tale. TFTC GabMil.
The Plan: Wake early, pack up the van, head towards Tomahawk from Waterhouse Bay, low tide is about 10.30 am this morning. Arrive early and walk out to the island.
What actually happened: Woke early (around 6.30 am) turned on the heater in the van, went back to sleep, woke at 8.40 am. Low tide is about 10.30 am this morning. Left Waterhouse Bay around 10.00 am arrived Tomahawk around midday. Oh well, there goes that Hawkisle.
So while we were in town, checked out all the other caches in town, found all four of them. Left the geowagon and van on the main road, walked down the esplanade to the walking track, surprised to find a bridge! Never the less, we found he cache.
Thanks GabMil for this cache.

Travelling around Australia, from our home in WA.
Another lovely day with sunshine! Tasmania is certainly throwing out the welcome sunshine this week.
Today we headed out towards the coast. Beautiful day.
This was our lunch spot today. So pretty.
Thanks so much for placing this Geocache.

Sam Carter forged ahead and so it was that the inchman or bull-ant found and bit her rather than me. It was blue-black in colour and larger than a jackjumper but it still bit her. After finding the cache we crossed the bridge and went around the shoreline towards the island, but the tide was too high to allow us to cross and search for the cache there. We did see an impressive geological feature, however, the contact between the bottom of the dolerite sill and the sandstone beneath which had been "cooked" by the molten dolerite. TFTC
The bridge is now back, and it's quite some structure. This one is much easier if you start from sea level rather than from the track; it is also much more enjoyable if you manage to avoid the jackjumpers (one found me, the fiend)! Nevertheless I loved finding a decent sized cache, and I was glad that having something to find had brought us to this lovely spot. We walked around the foreshore on the far side as the tide went out, but it didn't get quite low enough in the time we had for us to attempt Hawkisle. One day, I hope! Thanks for the cache, GabMil.
Yahoo, birthday caching. Easy find. Use yr caching nouse. Tftc found with trudynjack
We are so glad geocaching takes us to these beautiful places. while we were stopped for lunch, me find picked blackberries which I made into a slice for him, doesn't take much to make him happy
It was very very windy here today, and the bridge was once again doing its humming, vibrating thing. We found this cache without too much trouble on our way to check out the nearby island. Unfortunately the tide (not to mention the surf) was all wrong today, so that one will have to wait for another time. This was an impressive bridge for what was today a deserted beach. Tnlnsl TFTC
I think this cache could be changed back to hawk bridge after seeing the structure that is there. It was humming nicely in the wind. Found cache and returned to car. Left hawk isle for another trip as high tide today. TFTC
Hi again
The drive to this area was very interesting and the continuance of the rain made the scenery even prettier.
The GPS played up a bit here but eventually found the cache and signed the log at 1040hrs.
Even though the tide was out today, I didn't continue on to the island due to inclement and stormy weather.
As it was, as I was getting back into the cache mobile; I noticed CLARET pouring out of my right hand.
Repairs done, we continued on our journey.
Thank you for the series around Tomahawk. Enjoyed it greatly!
TFTC and cheers

#164 - 16:45; A nice easy find after conquering Hawkisle (GC10CTB) and now off the log the remaining caches in this area. TFTC
#407 After cycling with a tailwind from Bridport, we thought we would have some time in Tomahawk, but the horrendous headwind from the west made us pay. SO we decided to see if any GXs in Tomahawk, and with a slow two bar frequency strength, the trusty notebook and operator went to work. Geez..there are five here in Tomahawk (on dry land that is). So the first one here at a fantastic singing and vibrating bridge (due to the 40kmh winds) was quickly found. The cycling duo from Jindy now head to no.2 for the day.
There was orange mesh across the entrance to the path and a new walk bridge .

The bridge that this cache was placed under has now been demolished due to flooding that damaged it. The demolition crew found the cache and returned it to the Tomahawk shop intact and left a message in the log for all to read.
I have rehidden the cache nearby to where it originally was and also changed the name from Hawkbridge to Hawkriver due to there now being no bridge.....
Happy finding and please rehide cache as you found it.

lovely little estuary and bridge. The sun was just starting to set and it was a very peaceful place to be. The cache was a bonus! Thanks Gabmil
I went and checked this cache out over the weekend and have moved the cache so it is more easily accessible. Co-ordinates are still the same. Access to the cache should be via the beach as the track down to it is blocked by red tape although you can hop over this as there is no danger walikng to the bridge.
Cheers, and happy finding.
