A quick detour off the BSRT and a quick gather of the clues to grab this cache. A nice easy find. TFTC
Out and about on a rail trail expedition with Jascat and Mark9375. This was a quick detour and what an interesting cemetery. It is worthwhile to take some time and look at the displays for the stories behind the graves ( or do the other multi!) to Nice hide. TFTC.

On the bikes riding the BSRT with jascat and geojill_11 for the two long weekends, this geocache was found, we had a great time thanks to all the cache owners for showing this trail to us! some amazing places along this trail, not to forget some good memories and caches!

On my way home from Ballarat grabbing a few caches and stretching the legs... This worked for both.

On my way back to Mount Gambier from Ballarat with mogni. This was a good cache to do and stretch our legs. TFTC McAdies.
I tend to avoid multis as I haven't had a lot of luck with finding them in the past. Decided to bite the bullet and do this one as it didn't look too difficult - fortunately I was proved right and we had the cache in hand relatively quickly. I can't even imagine what it must have been like to have such tragedy within your family. How the parents coped I can't even fathom. Just goes to show, even with all the 'bad news stories' we hear, how lucky we really have it these days. Thanks for placing this cache here. One day I'll be back to try the other multi here but for today it was back to the rail trail to continue our journey.
We were in the area today finding a few caches. After a little hiccup I had the coordinates and geo hubby was quick to find it. TFTC A favourite.
TFTC. Out today with Jaggedwings to get a few smilies and discover some great history at the 'heart' cemetery. Nice to put a smilie on a serene place.
A nice easy multi. The best kind.
A day planned out and about in Ballarat with half of chooknchunk and FUF009. Initially to find award nominated caches. There was a plan but it was largely abandoned although we ended up completing most of it. We had a really great day which all of us needed and enjoyed. It was a long day. I was up from 5am until 11.30pm!

[red]Find #3133 Multi #173 [/red]
With a day off from working the weekend and a leave pass granted, all that was left for me to do, was pack up the geo vehicle with supplies including the 2 wheel manual vehicle and I was off at the crack of dawn. My day started at 5:30am and finished 225+ kilometres later at 5:30pm. 60+ caches found for the day and a few DNF's.
I was off again after the rail trail to collect a few more on the way to Ballarat. I parked the geo vehicle after I grabbed the info needed to eat some lunch in the shade at the front of the cemetery. Thankfully the numbers fell into place a lot quicker on this one than the other multi here. A quick find once I had solved the coordinates. Stamped and returned as found.
[blue]Thanks for this multi cache, McAdies [^]
Log and container in good condition.

This was a great multi, just goes to show how hard life was, I bet if she had the chance to
vaccinate her kids she would have taken it, and the family name would have carried on.
A multi well worth coming to do, and reading about.

Heading up to Ballarat, so thought I'd drop by and do the couple of Multi's here. A straightforward Multi, the answers gave me the coordinates I needed and the cache was soon found. I'm glad we have vaccines for Diptheria these days. TFTC McAdies.
Left Melbourne yesterday, and set up camp at the Creswick Caravan Park.
After Alansee and Team Crackers arrived, we enjoyed the open fire place in the camp kitchen.
After completing another section of the rail trail, we swung by to complete this multi.
The information was quickly collected, and we happily added our names to the log.
A fun day was had, in the company of good friends.
Many thanks for placing this cache, McAdies, for us and others to find.

frmen1 and I escaped home for a bit of geocaching. We started our day at 0400hrs, with the plan to do as much of the rail trail as we could. Only had time for one multi and we picked this one. I have a cemetery series at home, finding them such interesting places. TFTC
Quick find with Tassie expat while exploring this great area. Thanks for placing these caches.
While dad was signing the log a horse put his head over the fence to see what was going on, so i gave him a pat. Tftc
On our way home from doing a few caches along the BSRT and we stopped in for this one. Thanks for placing McAdies.
Out today with Kenare for a few caches. We both found this a while ago but i couldn't log it until now. Bit of a bonus that there was a path tag in it. Tftc in a lovely cemetery
We decided to make a short detour of the BSRT to pick up this cache. The ride in was a little hairy, so Pam and I walked in. When we found the others, the clues had been collected and we all went off to make the find. gmj made the find and it was a very impressive hiding place too. We picked this cache up at 11:38am.
SirJ-Oz, Annoying Tarbit and I hatched a plan to head to the east and pick up some of the caches along the Ballarat to Skipton Rail Trail. I had been here just over 2 years previously with group to collect the first half, so it was well time to come and collect the rest. gmj3191 (a member of the previous group) and BernieH also joined us, along with non-caching Pam.
Thanks for the cache McAdies.

Find #2131. Found @ 11:36 with LouiseAnn, Annoying Tarbit, gmj3191 (and PamJ), and BernieH.
Today was all about the BSRT series from Smythesdale to Linton. This was find #9 of #55, with #1 DNFs thrown in for good measure.
Despite the BSRT being our main objective, we decided to divert here to grab the multi. I really like these old cemeteries, there is so much history crammed into a small location. I suppose that it is even more interesting when there are information boards like these to provide the background. Annoying Tarbit gathered the numbers at WP1 and then we made our way to GZ where gmj3191 made the find.
This cemerery is a really picturesque location, and reminds me of the Oakleigh Pioneer Memorial Park near where I live. Because I enjoyed the cache, and to reward the next multi finder, I left one of my signature pathtags in the cache.
Took nothing, left pathtag, signed log and visited some trackables.

Another fine plan from LousieAnn to tackle the Smythesdale to Linton section of Ballarat to Skipton Rail Trail and hunt the caches along the way. We arrived with 6 bikes and 4 cars so once we had headed to leave my car at the end point for later we were off. A bumper day of 61 finds for me including 54 finds and 3 DNFs on or near the rail trail. We had the luck of a beautiful spring day and tee-shirt heat as we pedalled our way through this very pleasant countryside.
This was a small diversion off the rail trail down a well marked path. Bernie and I cruised off road over the little hills and found WP1. We quickly crunches the numbers and the group headed to GZ. gmj3191 made the find in a neat little spot. Thanks for this multi cache McAdies and for teaching us a little bit of local history in an interesting cemetery.

Today was spent cycling the Smythesdale to Linton section of the Ballarat to Skipton Rail Trail.
Our group was composed of LouiseAnn, BernieH, Sir J-Oz, Annoying Tarbit and wife Pam.
We had a great time. I haven't kept detailed notes on all finds but one or two stood out for a special mention.
It was a magnificent day, getting up to about 18 degrees, and for the most part was sunny with no wind. We generally felt this section was a bit more interesting than the previous section which most of us rode about two years ago.
We took some time out from the rail trail to find this little multi.
It worked well and we soon had the cache sorted.
Sir J left one of his pathtags here.

Travelled up to Ballarat from Melbourne to do the BSRT between Smythesdale and Linton with some friends. Met gmj3191 (and GeoWife Pam), LouiseAnn, SirJ-Oz and Annoying Tarbit at Smythesdale where we organised a car drop to Linton and then commenced or ride at about 10:30 am. Enjoyed some great scenery and cache hides along the way and finished in Linton at about 4:30 pm.
Annoying Tarbit quickly decoded the clues and gmj3191 raced us all to the prize at GZ, an interestingly large cemetery with lots of room for growth. Hmm.

We found the information needed to locate this cache, which we did promptly and then we went back around the entire grounds to read the rest of the informative history boards. A great set up for a cemetery.

Well a few days in Smythesdale saw fine weather today but Freezing.
We decided to risk it and off we set out in the GeoCruiser with the GeoBikes on the rack towards Linton.
We also managed to grab a few local caches once had the bikes back on the GeoCruiser and heading towards camp. We stopped here and made sure to stop and read all the informative signs in the area here. So much history. Awesome.

Some much sadness in one family. We are so lucky to live in this time when children all expect to live to adulthood. It was very interesting to discover so much about the Lynch family and to have the bonus of a smile to complete the wander around this well maintained cemetery. thanks McAdies
A day out to earn a few more smilies with Shamus1, Cherad, Mi5sie & 08151605, caching the BSRT from Newtown to Smythesdale. It was my first time caching with geo-kiddies and what a difference! They were happy to do the scrambling, climbing and crawling. I think I might loan a couple next time I go caching! We said "Good bye" to Mi5sie and two of the geo-kiddies at this cache as they headed back to the starting point and we continued on to Smythesdale. TFTC.
Found with Samus1, Geniejoan, 08151605 and Mi5sie as we set out to find some caches and enjoy a lovely walk, we took a small detour from the trail to find this one, interesting history to read here, TFTC

Our second visit to this Cemetery for this cache, mainly due to me writing death date instead of birth date. A quick visit to confirm the figure I had already entered was correct and we were soon at GZ to collect the cache. An easy find with the right info.
We visited here about 15 years ago and the grass was waist high, nothing like the pristine Cemetery that's there now.
Well done to McAdies.

Headed to Ballarat today with the bogonghazys to complete the BSRT series, the symbol series and to pick up a few extra smilies along the way.

We decided to drive the long way to Ballarat today, and cache along the way, of course! We are really growing to love cemetery caches and seek them out. This cache was certainly worthy of visiting and the Smythesdale Historical Society have done a lovely job with creating the info boards for some of the earliest settlers. It really brings it home just how tough life was in those early days, and how lucky we are now. The multi was nice and easy as was the find. A favourite from us. Thank you so much for bringing us here McAdies.
Really enjoyed this one as we usually find multis too involved.
Fascinating history information along the way. Amazing how young people died back then. We are so lucky these days with medical research having come such a long way. But if we are not careful history will repeat itself !! So glad we attempted this one as it was so interesting.
Thanks for a great and not too hard multi.

We set aside today as a caching day to boost our wellbeing and our cache numbers. We walked up and down a couple of sections of the BSRT Rail Trail and found some more caches in the Skipton and Ballarat areas. We ended up walking nearly 20 km and are now glad to be home again. Thank you to the COs whose hides we visited today! It is always great to have caches lined up where no motorised traffic will bother us. Not only that, we did not even see a pedestrian or a bike muggle during our quest. On a trail, of course, there is always "one more" ... something we were saying and thinking a lot today. [:]
Oops, nearly forgot to log the highlight of today's caching! We love cemeteries, especially these hidden gems in the country! At this time of the year, the cemetery teems with colourful flowers, it is absolutely pretty. And yet, it is always with a heavy heart that we visit these places and find out about hardship and amazing stories. No exception here! We took in a lot of the stories as we were criss-crossing the cemetery, even found a can of beer left for one of the deceased, probably by his mates.
We are leaving a favourite point for this visit, made our day!

Out doing the Scarsdale-Smythesdale section of the BSRT and headed in to the cemetery for this multi on the way back. Nice easy find but what a sad sad story. Many thanks - this is a great multi for a beginner
My friend and I came to Smythesdale Library, she met the volunteers for researched her family history here and then a lady took us to an unknown burial area where her family ancestry was buried and it was sad for her for not know which is the plot. I was doing here for the multi cache at the same time. When I tried to work it out but I couldn't work it then I texted my friend with an attached photo in Sydney then she gave me the corrected co-ordinate which I got it in my hand! It was a beautiful cemetery and it was really sad. TFTH

Tftc. So sad to see some of the older graves crumbling, but a beautiful area to stroll around
I had a bit of time to kill today on this beautiful, lazy Sunday that I decided to grab a few caches.
Cemetery caches hold real appeal to me. There is something about them. The history and the stories behind the headstones seems to get my mind a wanderin'.
The cemetery trust of the Smythesdale Cemetery really need to be proud of themselves. The grounds were immaculate (as they should be) and the signs around the cemetery telling the stories of some of the more famous residents were intriguing.
I almost forgot why I came here.
Really this cache could be completed in 7 minutes maximum. In realitiy this took me just shy of 1hr 20 minutes.
The cache itself was dry and in great shape.
A stark reminder of the fragility of human life and also that caching is not all about the numbers; it's the experiences that count.

If the coordinates take you to the middle of the highway, you have made a mistake somewhere.
Nice crisp morning. Second one found. Its so exciting and great to learn the history!
Staying at the Smythesdale campground and enjoying doing some nearby caches. This one eluded us though. We are sure we got the numbers correct, but the gps tried to take us to the middle of the highway. Better luck next time.

Find #58 of 62 today.
What a great geocaching day in the Ballarat region!
The main aim was to do all the caches along the BSRT rail trail. The end result after 200km by car and 50km by bike was 900 photos and 62 caches. And a 100% find on all 54 BSRT-series caches thus far.
After completing the nearby BSRT rail trail series, I felt the need for a multi to change it up a bit. The walking made a pleasant change from all the cycling. After gathering the clues and getting the co-ords, I was soon signing the log.
TFTC, McAdies.

A lovely chance to have a walk, learn a little more about the history of the area and break up the ride along the Ballarat-Skipton Rail Trail. Thanks McAdies for providing a brief tour of a very historic area The cache is still very well camouflaged at GZ
Found after completing Highrods section of the BSRT. This cache has been on my to do list for a while but I always seem to drive by. Well not today. I enjoyed the walk around the cemetery checking out the interesting signs about the history of the area. I was struck by the mortality of children in times past. Makes be incredibly grateful to have two healthy bouncing boys. Thanks for bringing me McAdies. Another great cache.
Said g'day to my great grandparents and my great great grandparents as I passed by their graves on the way to gather the required information.
Cache was soon to hand

With the promise of a rain free day we took the opportunity to visit this area of the State for which our map shows a plethora of unopened treasure boxes. We really enjoy these multi caches which give some insight into the history of a locality, a warmer day would have had us wandering to other historical signs.
TNLN . . SL . . Thanks for the hunt McAdies.

How rich is the history here at the cemetery? We really enjoyed strolling around and reading the information. The multi was straightforward and the cache located, signed and replaced. Thanks so much.
Could have spend a lot more time here as it was so interesting reading some of the old head stones and the history was fascinating. Ours is only a short history in comparison, but what we have got is rich in stories and deeds from the past. Multi cache found.....TFTC
What an interesting thing to do on a sunny Sunday afternoon - Glad I came here with GeoK9 and despite the sombre surroundings enjoyed this multi and my visit to this very old landmark. I like the way information boards are provided to show the way of life and history of some local town families and individuals. TFTC.
First multi and a few challenges on how to get this cache for us, but happy to find. Another big thanks to McAdies
On the way to Ballarat this was a good little multi and was fun to do. nice easy find. TFTC
A very interesting and almost sad stroll through the stones
Well at least a couple of the kids outlived their parents

Its stories like this family's that make you want to believe in an afterlife, that after a lifetime of gut-wrenching sadness at losing so many children and ultimately leaving no descendents, they were reunited somewhere.

Found in the company of Quasar3671,Trailrunning and Blacklegend (aka The Demolition Crew) on another Ballarat caching run, we still had a few to do in town since our last visit and a few new ones had popped up. A great night was had by all with lots of laughs and good times, we celebrated my 8000th find. I always love a cache with history, sadly in these places sometimes the history can be saddening. My thanks to McAdies for the cache.
The Demolition Crew were together again for another legendary caching run, and again, out to Ballarat area after starting in Melbourne. About 65 finds for the night in the company of Quasar3671, TrailRunning and Rebel Acts. Another fun filled night, plenty of great caches, and a night where Rebel passed 8000 finds, fantastic. My thanks to all the CO's for their cache placements.
Nice but sad multi. We do seem to get to a lot of cemeteries in our travels. TFTC.

This cache was found as part of a TDC cache run on the day/night of 21-22 Jan 2010. After quickly gathering the clues we were off to GZ where teh cache was spotted in it's hidey hole. Thanks.
Run Summary
----------------------
The Demolition Crew had been preparing this cache run for two weeks after our last cache run in the Ballarat area only a few weeks ago had left a number of caches behind, and the caching community had placed a number of new caches in the area; so it was timely that we return to finish what we had started.
Rebel Acts (Eric) was creeping up to his 8,000 find, so it was going to be a celebration of big numbers and caching in great company. It wasn't long before the 8,000 mark was hit with a FTF on a cache called "A Local Family's History" in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. At this point we headed west through Melton, Bacchus Marsh, Enfield and then into Ballarat proper. Clearly the highlight of the night was Eric reaching the 8,000th cache, but the three Earthcaches and another D/T crossed off the list were also personal highlights for me. Thanks to all the CO's who have put the effort in placing and maintaining their caches.

Myself, Rebel Acts, Trailrunning and Blacklegend (aka The Demolition Crew) planned another Ballarat cache run for tonight as we still had quite a few to find since our last run and some news ones had also been published since then too. Ballarat Smackdown III was soon devised with the route planned and the cache list ready to go.
It was another perfect day and night for caching and there was a definite feeling of deja vu. We started the run around the northern suburbs of Melbourne, picking up a FTF along the way, before heading west through Melton, Bacchus Marsh, the Enfield State Forest (which I personally love driving through) and into Ballarat city itself. During the run Rebel Acts also found his 8000th cache which was a highlight for the night. A big thanks to the CO's for spending the time and effort in placing the caches we found.
Once we emerged out of the wilderness back onto some smooth asphalt roads we headed south to the cemetery for this nice multi. Once we had the numbers required and had worked out the coords for GZ we headed over and found the cache right at GZ. Thanks McAdies.

I loved doing this cache, I've never seen a cemetery quite like this before. Having the stories right at the grave sides somehow made both much more real and interesting. I could have easily spent much more time here. tnln sl Thanks for this cache, and the bigger puzzle its part of.
The history although sad was interesting. First collection of the co-ords for WBMC. Tftc
