Us Drysies are saddened to say good-bye to this cache...but think it the best after the bad experience "cnjblack" encountered. Many thanks to all who took time out to find "A Disappointing View".
Drysies.
Hi to the family of "Riddell" cachers.
Apologies for the late reply to your log entry on our cache...."A Disappointing View"
Many thanks for taking the time out to retrieve the cache. Truthfully, I was doubtful it would still be in place after reading of the incident with the neighbour that the previous cacher encountered.
My intention was to drag a big burly looking fella up to The Crest with me to retrieve the cache....but you beat me to it!
Glad the travel bug was rescued. And you are welcome to keep it/return it to the area in another guise etc.
It is sad that it could not be left in that quiet little reserve....which IS open and free for the public to roam...have checked that with the Local Council. Always someone willing to ruin the fun for everyone.
Again....many thanks, and I will contact the moderator to Archive "A Disappointing View"
Cheers

Looks like Drysies have departed the cache world for greener pastures with a diminishing activity over the years and no cache activity for 2012.
I have, with great regret, removed the cache from its hide and rescued the TB which would have been entombed for all eternity.
Drysies, if you are out there, I have your cache.
I was thinking of returning it to the area in another guise if you don't want it.
BTW, there is no way the irate local could have found this cache.
The hide was first class and even I had to try and recall where it was.
There may be a time that the cache could return to the area, but for now the nearby "The Crest! - GC2B6TG" will be the one and only one in the reserve.
And you won't have to meet the wrath of the local.

27/10/2012 15:43 I was very surprised to see this one disabled when I got home. I must have been very lucky, far luckier than cmjblack it seems. This a nicely hidden container and was even a bit tricky to extract. I now see why it was unlikely to get found by a muggle. I have no idea what might be the problem with the neighbour but I too saw the sign at the entrance and the fence, whilst squeezy, doesn't stop you entering. Apart from the roadway, you cross no fence lines nor other gates. I managed to get myself to GZ and extracted the cache and sat there to log the find. I took the resident TB (KODA) and left another, but now wish I hadn't. Whilst it is a lovely spot, if there are issues, it would be awful to have the new TB lost. I just checked the City of Whittlesea website. They show the set of parks they claim to manage (visualised via google maps) and I didn't see "The Crest Park". If this one is to be archived I suggest the TB be rescued ASAP. TFTC drysies TNLN SL
The cache appears to be in need of owner intervention. I'm temporarily disabling it, to give the owner an opportunity to check on the cache, and take whatever action is necessary. Please respond to this situation in a timely manner (i.e., within 30 days) to prevent the cache from being archived for non-responsiveness. If you require more time please be sure to post a note (not an email) explaining the situation and how much more time you require. For ongoing issues please ensure you visit the page and post a note every month or so to keep everyone up to date.
Went to find this cache, got verbally abused and threatened by the neighbour who told us to expletive off (we were on public land as info states near gz). The lady threatened to chase us with her shotgun, call the police and kick our teeth in. During her 10 minute tirade she yelled she had thrown the container out (not sure if this was true as she wrecked our experience). I suggest due to her highly erratic and violent behavior (getting her son and daughter to come out to threaten to beat us up) a cache should not be placed here. At no point were we ever on her property. Mind you we are a respectable mother and daughter team, never had any issues. It's a shame a ignorant and aggressive person can ruin a fun and harmless game for everyone.
Enjoyed the walk from the car park to gz, saw a few roos, and made an easy find. TFTC.
Found before deciding on where to lunch. Our first sunny day for awhile.
Dropped off Koda.

We decided to tackle some northern caches today, and this one lived up to one side of its name - we didn't see a thing as the cloud was too low and the rain was coming down. Thanks for bringing us here anyway, and for the cache.
Dodged the roo poo from the roo that had decided to placed a deposit rather close to the cache. It seemed that it was my duty to retieve the cache, not sure whether it was cause I was the most 'youthful' of the group or that I am just lucky!
We squeezed in and wandered through the trees in search of this cache, which we found quite sucessfully. Although Ali had to dodge the roo poo as she extracted it! Removed an item from the cache which was past it's use by date, which then caused much hilarity and hijinks as it was passed from one to the other, because no-one was going to accept responsibility for it!! Where did it end up Ali?? Justin??

No disappointment here, with the view or the result of the short walk and search. Cheers.

Find # 1781
After a late night at the WWFM IX event in the city and just three hours sleep, I was picked up by my caching partner in crime, sedgwickDave and we headed in a northerly direction towards Whittlesea and a massive day of caching.
We parked at the side of the road for this one, not realising we needed to be on the other side of the fence. I eventually found a spot where I could climb over safely and dave was over the fence soon after. we took the stroll across the paddock to GZ where the cache was quickly spotted by dave.. [^]
Thanks to drysies for the cache. TNLN

Today was another epic cache run with best mate ahomburg thru an area of Melbourne I have not visited until today. This was one of 32 found and we also had a few DNFs.
Having found the "Crest" this was the next one found after a short trek into GZ. Cache was spotted quickly but it took a little effort to finally have log in hand. Never saw the car park but one the walk back to the car resulted in finding an easier section of the fence which required no effort to climb over. TFTC Drysies

After a meal at the Wallan pub to celebrate my Nannas birthday I was soon heading back towards down and caching on the way. I Parked up the top of the hill and walked through the long grass past the mob of kangaroos to make this quick find. Thanks Drysies for the hide.. took I didn't have alot of time for this one and had to PAF for this clever hide.. Took The Golden Hairy Berry Geo coin, thanks Drysies for find #2082
Nice quick find with Sam Carter after a short walk through the wet grass. Thanks for showing us this area, and for the cache.
After not being exactly sure if we were supposed to start from where we did, we headed off past the mobs of roos, getting our feet rather damp in the dewy grass. GZ was very peaceful, but the trees blocked the view which made it a little disappointing … but then the cache name warned us of this fact ... so you can't say we weren't told. The cache was found easily, and it WAS, in fact, a lovely spot despite my disparaging comment. Thanks Drysies. My travelling coin passed through in tribute.
Can you please check that this cache is still hidden. I didn't find it and the person before me didn't either despite posting the incorrect log. Should be easy to find, it looks reasonably obvious that it would be in that place should it exist.
Checked this afternoon, and note in log book reflects this. All is well, cache still in original position, and trackable (golden Hairy Beary) still in place. Happy hunting!! (:D)
Awesome place. 40+ large Roos. Great views. Didn't find it but in I it for the adventure.

Found by Team Ladava around 12.45 on our Whittlesea Wander today. A lovely sunny winter's day spoilt only by a chilly breeze.
This cache was the pick of the eleven we did today. A lovely spot with glorious views across the valley. As we pulled up a large mob of 30 to 40 kangaroos bounded away.

2.40 Out and about with 80 degrees today and the sun is out but not hot. What else could you want, but a list of caches to be done(created by Mrs 80), Mr X behind the wheel and the support team rearing to go.
We are on track and half way through our list. With the beast taking out so much of the walking time we may even get through them all.
As we pulled up to GZ there were two other cars so the obvious conclusion was that they were one of US. You know what happens when you assume. As 80 degrees had already done this it was on their good authority that we were doing this the short cut way. This needed that support team member was to slide through the fence for the closest retrieve and then with a short walk to A Disappointing View. Nicely through the fence the observers proceeded to instruct us as to where the correct entrance was. After securing The Crest I procedded to the DV. Very well named. Such great views along the way but none here. Nice easy find. Back to the car to move on.
This is our 14th for the day.
Thanks for the cache.

Out with hubby and 4 yo to finish off those in the area that we started the day before. Just over 2 years on, and few signs remain (from this distance) of the tradegy. Never hurts to remember though.

The view is not the least 'disappointing' in fact striking is an understatement. Found ourselves on the 'road ridge' side and nearly forgot about the Cache as we gazed across the Range, more so considering the dramatic, violent natural history that took place just a few years ago. It would have been an astonishing (if not dangerous) place to see the raging fires. This Cache 'appeared' whilst we stood around contemplating the 'obstacle' ahead being mindful of this 'obstacle' is at shall we say 'inconvienient waist height'. Nonetheless, having spotted the Cache this merely 'spurred' us to go over this obstacle as unobtrusively and as harmlessly as possible. Cache is in fine condition as its contents. TNLN. Found in the company of Dylan 7a and Little Gnome. It was hard not to linger-longer and just absorb the views! Thank you to 'drysies' for the Cache, its not the least disappointing location and for the introduction to a small but gem of a Park.
Found @ 11.25am, #573.
We arrived to a very nice view on a great day for caching, saw a number of roo's, walked through that sh#@ grass that sends little spears into you and then found the cache.
Thanks to drysies for the cache.

Nothing disappointing about the view today, though it was a bit hazy... A hare dashed away in front of me, closely followed by three kangaroos. Thanks.

Well we were disappointed not to find the entrance gate, so we figured that Tom Tom had brought us in the 'back way' again. So there was nothing for it, but up and over. Heaps and I mean heaps of roos in the way but they soon moved off when they realised we were on a mission. Found and logged. Thanks Drysies for the cache. Oh and the views were all right at the top of the hill.
Yes I am disappointed because I cant get thru the gate... so have to climb over the fence.

The pedestrian access wasn't designed for portly searchers however the gate was unlocked!

Detoured out to this nice area of the world on the way back home from the Wallan market. The day was cold and the views were cut short by the mist and low cloud but just as we arrived the sun decided to shine on us for awhile.
As we approached GZ we saw some roos in the distance which excited the 2 year old.
Took: Yellow lanyard. Left: Pink skull tag.
Cheers Drysies, I think we'll come back here to check out the view in Spring.

Made our way out to the park that has been quite close to home for the last year. Geokids and Geodog had a lot of fun running around this very secluded park. GZ was easily reached and the cache was soon in hand.

2 of 2 for the day on the way home from Melbourne. Took a while to find how to get into this park, but once i did, i made a quick find. Thanks for a great view. The cache had fallen out of its hidey hole and was clearly visible on the ground when i got there. I put it back where i thought it had come from.
The view is not dissapointing but the efforts at finding a cache were. My grandson had the GPS and he wanted a find but we couldn't help him here. Got one soon after though. Don't know what I did wrong. I'm sure it wasn't that hard and someone else found it the same day too.
Oh well -Next time!

Not disappointing at all! Was out this way for a party, so completed the cache in my party clothes. I usually get filthy while caching, so had to be careful this time. Cache found in good nick where the GPS said. Thanks for bringing me here.
Found this one at 10:55 while on a Christmas caching, err I mean shopping, trip . A nice easy one with some great views out along the ranges and I even had the pleasure of meeting a sensational blue-tongued lizard having his froggy breakfast a few metres from GZ (he wasn't as happy with seeing me as I was seeing him though ).

A quick visit today to collect TB 'Berry Boy' at owners request. He is northbound, and will be set free on his travels again within the week.
If anyone is thinking about visiting this cache could they have a look to see if Berry Boy is still happy. Thanks
Rubus Pickers located their second Drysies cache at 4.25pm on 22/8/09 and what a location it was. Prior to alighting our vehicle we were greeted with a magnificent view of the hills and comprehending the horrific sights the locals would have witnessed on Black Saturday. We set out on our trek through Crest Park and left the GPS in the hands of our most junior member. We then plodded across the park almost like a Clydesdale and within moments we located the cache of a Drysdale. T1L1SL. TFTC. Cheers Rubus
I enjoyed this bush reserve and the view even if it was dissapointing, the fires sure have left the hills looking black. Thanks Drsies for the cache.
Of course it is far from a dissapointing view, although it is a Dissapointing view, and not that far from it! A good spot for a cache and a nice short walk, thanks Rubus.
One of the real highlights of the day for me on this, my last cache.
A bit out of the way but what great views in a reserve that I would never otherwise know about.
This is what caching is all about.
No one about for a change so I relaxed took my time and even made a swap.
Thanks Drysies.

We found our 1st Drysies cache at 6:15pm as the final of 12 on our "Have an Avenal Arvo". Finds on this cache are fairly rare but we have notched another one on it today. TomTom had us trying to find an entrance down 14th street but a trip around the block soon had us in the correct spot. Once out of the car we were hit by an icy gale straight off the alps that cut right through. Fortunately, by the time that we were at the cache, we had a little shelter from the wind. As we had decided to grab this cache as a final diversion from the Hume today, it was dark by the time we had arrived so no views could be had, but we have seen an awful lot of the devestated areas over the last few weeks. Thanks for the cache from D, H & A B-A.
Found at 11.25am GAFF1. We were on another caching mission today, however as we were in the vicinity, we just had to find out what was so disappointing about the view. We had just been through the devastation and could see the re-growth amongst the trees, however after 3 months it is still struggling to show anything more than just a tinge of green. It will take some time, but it will recover! At GZ the view was anything but disappointing especially on this last day of autumn where the light softened the scene. On approaching GZ a mob of 'roo's moved away right on queue.
As a general rule we have difficulty searching for caches after maccamob do their expert job in rehiding, but this time we managed to find the cache in the very first spot we checked - and a good hide it was as well.
Thanks Drysies for showing us this spot.

Found by Mary & David at 1000. Kangaroos everywhere, and even 2 highland cows near where we parked. Soft mist enveloped the scarred hills, hinting at the healing process that will one day take place, but hiding it from us today. Dropped off 'Berry Boy' TB. Our thanks to Drysies.
Like Geodes I was surprised to see this has been found so few times. Perhaps the terrain rating puts people off? It certainly isn't a difficult 2.5 given that people can park within about 150 (once they find the right road in!) I was here nice and early and was greeted with bright sunshine over the valley - fantastic stuff. I disturbed a number of hares as I strolled to GC and was pleased to find the cache in the logical spot.
I look forward to seeing the regrowth of the area that was burnt so horrificaly in February, both in terms of the bush but the communities that live there.
Thanks,
R - B

I'm a bit surprised that this is only the 2nd find in over 2 months - I guess this area's just a bit off the beaten track and no cachers pass through here too often (or maybe it's just that big barrier of HomerJay73 caches that they have to pass through to get out here from Melbourne ). Anyway, I was out trying to get on top of the latest crop around Mernda and a bit of a diversion out this way seemed like a good idea. The TomTom didn't want to play, so I had to take a stern hand with it and, after a couple of false starts, managed to park a short distance from GZ and, after a short walk, make an easy find. It's an unusual reserve - the plantings all seem to be in a grid - like squares on a chessboard. I didn't see any wildlife, but there sure are a lot of signs that they're about!
Three months on, and the fire blackened ranges to the north and east sure aren't showing too many signs of recovery at this stage .

Thanks again Drysies
