*Found on the 11 Jun 2023 @ 1:34 pm.**Cache find # 14776.*I have been wanting to find a few caches around this area for some time now and as a maintenance run was also needed for a few of these, I organised a bit of a finding / maintenance run with biggles1024 / Cache Guardians to cross a few things off of the list.I have been passed this one a number of times but have never stopped here for a look, today was different, I made sure that a stop was included at this one on our journey. After a bit of Monkey business, the cache was located and the log signed. **Thanks to hi pressure & Cache Guardians for placing this cache.**

Once again Vinz has ventured into the mountains on a less than perfect day. Having been to this location several times over the millennia Zinz had no problems retrieving the artifact but with rain falling and a never-ending stream of muddy 4x4's passing by, the leaving of his mark needed to be completed quickly to prevent water damage and attention from the uninitiated.

Dnf due to time constraints, but will be back for this one tftc

Thanks for the Cache Hipressure,
Stopped to have a look at this one, the old relics are most interesting, The structure it was on was impressive too. Seems to be a cross over between the old and the new, I wonder if it was a hauling and loading ramp for Trucks to take the logs to the mills in town. I wonder if they powered it with a Diesel engine and gearbox instead of steam.
Regards from Victourer.

It was going to be cracking weather in Victoria today so we decided to head out bush and enjoy some caching in the sun.

This is an amazing piece of historic machinery. A little explore of the machinery and soon found the cache. Log in good condition .

Thanks Cache Guardians for the cache.

Another old cache, excellent. This one could have taken a lot longer to locate but it was found fairly quickly, log signed, cache returned to it's hide and we were back on the track to continue our stroll in the bush. Thanks for the cache.

10-Jan-21
This was a nice quick find at a beautiful old piece of machinery. Just the logs that it is sitting on are massive. It is outstanding what the old timers managed to do. A favourite for us. Thank you for showing us here.

Good find thanks

Our first caching day since March, day1976 and I got out and got some unlove around Powelltown.
First cache for the day, and day1976 spotted it.
I took a trackable to try to move it on.

17-May-20
Out with ilukaperi for our first caching trip in about 8 weeks. A really nice day out, blue skies, not too hot, not too cold.

This was our first one for the day. I spotted it quite quickly and Iluka made the grab. Cache was found in excellent condition.

Many moons ago I hiked along the old logging tramway from the High Lead car park on the Yarra Junction to Noojee Rd, camped at Starlings Gap and then finished at Big Pats Creek just out of Warburton which was an interesting jaunt, albeit quite a muddy one! It's hard to imagine that these hills were once stripped of nearly every tree and while regeneration has occurred it'll take centuries for massive trees to again cover the landscape, if that's at all possible since clearfell logging of continues around the region to this day. In fact Tippy Gully which is east of here is the next tree coupe flagged for clearfell logging apparently!

PS: Dropped off "Travel Foxi" TB

Having just come one out wonderful tourist highlights -the Adda tree we pulled over to show a newbee what caching is all about. Sheer delight when they found it. We may have another convert. We haven't changed much we are still leaving our rubbish behind.. Thanks for this lovely area and you bringing us here Cache Guardians.

04-Apr-19
After an extended visit to the Ada Tree, we didn't have much time to pick up many caches in the area, but the old winch looked cool so we stopped for this one.
A nice quick find and we were back on our way.
TFTC, hi pressure

We were heading to see the Ada Tree and driving in via the scenic route when we happened to be passing this cache. I jumped out for a quick look, and after reading some of the history on the sign I started my search. Not sure how I kept missing the cache, but got there in the end! TFTC

18-Jan-19
A nice evening drive and a little fruitless searching soon had me looking for a second cache for the night before heading home. Having only heard one car out here I though I would be able to do a quick drive here to grab this one. It ended up being a lot longer as the road was slower going than expected.

The cache was a nice quick find and all is in good condition.

Thanks Cache Guardians for the cache.
Found at 11:12 pm on 18/1/19.

Out and about enjoying some sight seeing and finding some caches too. Thanks so much for highlighting this area that we have been meaning to explore for ages. This was an amazing sight to see so close to the road and in such good condition. Dropped off a TB. Thanks for the cache.

A lovely spot to stop and see a piece of Mary's favourite type of sculpture, rusty items from yesteryear always intrigue her.
Balance is a bit of a good thing to have when making the find here, so Aussie Mark made the find while Mary cheered him on.
TFTC and bringing us to this intriguing place. A favourite from Aussie M & M.

**Find #2967**
**Traditional Cache Find #2036**

I headed out early today with the intention of finding some unloved caches and performing some maintenance. This was my last cache for the day. It was getting dark and I still had a bit of drive home. I love old machinery like this and the cache was quickly found. I left a TB here for the next finder.

My wife asked if I wanted to go camping for a night on my own, so of course I said "yes". I'd previously checked if there were any caches in the area, and had 4 on my list.

From previous camping trips to Starling Gap, I knew exactly where this lovely relic was. In my pre-caching life, I'd even stopped and admired it. This time, however, I knew a little bit more about something hidden and I was determined to find it.

It turned out to be the easiest cache of the weekend, and the cache was soon in hand. Thanks for maintaining the cache Cache Guardians, it's yet another great reason to stop and admire some of the area's history. The views aren't bad either Smile

Whilst driving all around this interesting location, we stopped to find this nice-sized cache.
Such a nice little piece of history nestled in the bush. Laborious but efficient way of doing things.
Another historic cache lives on. Cool
Keep up the good work, Cache Guardians! [^]

Out on a day with OzHockeyChick finding some great caches and catching up on some history and this was no let down in that grand scheme either...
Amazing contraption and to think of how powerful this thing must of been once.
Loved the scenery and the cache was hidden as the hint stated and in perfect dry condition ...

Solomonfamily, on a family holiday, we have not been active for a while and this will be a good chance to add a few to our tally.

Using Powelltown as our base we went exploring the tracks ad roads in the surrounds - came upon this cache while also figuring out how to capture an ingress portal with no phone coverage... none the less our youngest geoprince and I had a really nice look at GZ and discussed its workings - including the cable on the other side of the road around a big stump. It is hard to imagine the effort required back then to get the job done. An easy find (once I looked at the clue)

Our thanks again to hi pressure

We were driving through here on our way to the ADA tree on cup day and stopped before even knowing the cache was there, it was one of those times when we thought, 'there has to be a cache there' and we were right. A bit of confusing due to having two people with dyslexia reading the hint and it was found. Left a path tag here also. Cheers

found easy enough, when I opened cache I removed a dirty old sock & a box of matches,
should be more pleasant for next finder. But a good historical hidey spot... TFTC

Found it.....good one.

06-Jun-15
Found it! We had just finished placing 2 more of our own and the kids were really hoping to see some snow up at the gap. Made our way up Big Creek Rd and knowing there was a cache at the winch we couldn't really drive right past without g grabbing it. Area looks very open now it's been logged, but we suppose it won't take to long and the view will be gone as the forest grows back. Cache proved to be an easy find, kids did some swaps and we retrived a geocoin....TFTC

We actually found this cache a few weeks ago, but haven't had time until now to log out find -sorry! We found and took the travel bug 5DJHP7. We will hide the travel bug in our next cache find.

Nice cache! Our first family day out, Poppy born 12/12/14, dropped off a geocoin I've had too long!!! No trackable found though.

Out for a date day with Mr Rennige while the kids were at school and thought we would head to the Ada tree and check out some caches on the way.

Had a beautiful view and just as well the old winch was here as we had a few muggles drive past... quite busy for a Tuesday.

Thanks hi pressure for the cache

Out on a weekend hike with my venturers i ran into kmmndavis while waiting at the starting location for everyone to arrive. She was waitng for her scouts who were doing the same hike as me only backwards. Crazy little kids walking up the Highlead. After the car shuffle we were all set and headed out to find the caches.

Last find for the weekend. Now its finally time to go home and sleep and recover from the hike.

Cheers for the caches along the way.

Found @15:17 #3256
Today found myself back in a familiar region this time exploring further east then before, hunting the caches which don't see many visitors. On the run today with me was Ahomburg who's car is better suited for these types of roads. The weather overall was pleasant but overcast for most of the day and cooler then last weekend.

Impressive old structure this one which was interesting to inspect. Some nice views too.Cool Bringing in this equipment back then would of been a feat in itself given the road conditions etc; amazing. Thanks for bringing me here today.

Time: 3:17pm
Find # 3315
Streak: 87 days

Another perfect caching day today, so headed out again to a familiar place for some unfinished business from last weekend with my caching mate SedgwickDave. Our main target was a cache called "Plane Sailing", while picking up as many of the other caches around the area while we were at it.

This area was starting to look quite familiar now, I was sure I had been here before. Anyway, after a read of the history, followed by a brief search, the cache was found.

Thanks to hi pressure for the cache. TNLN

Took longer than it should have considering the size of the cache we were looking for something smaller found by muggles not long ago left their names and some swaps great piece of history tftc and for bringing me to another great spot bet the loggers that logged here had a much easier time

I started my working career in forestry. My very last activity for forestry was to do an interpretation (education) plan. Don't know if it was ever used. This was one of the stops.

Had been out at the Ada tree looking for leadbeaters possum. Stopped to get cache which is still in good condition. A quick find was made tftc tnln

Sadly the surrounding forest had justed been sent to the woodchipper so was rather devoid of life.

Had a pretty free day to go for a caching adventure with josiey and our two youngest sons. This was our third find, really a drive by but in a location with a view enhanced by tree felling and fires. Good to see the cache and the hide were safe.

26-Aug-12
This is a great area for caching with bits of rusting infrastructure scattered throughout the area. There had been fires very nearby but this particular spot had narrowly avoided being burned and we were happy to find the cache in good condition. TFTC.

4th find of the day, and 3157th total find at 1:58:00 PM.

A nice drive-by cache on our trip around the area today. the cache was clearly visible on our approack, so wn=e managed to wedge it a little better into its hidey hole.

Took: Nothing
Left: Screwdriver
Thanks hi pressure for the cache

An interesting look back in time nice easy find after "between a rock and a hard place" while your in the area take the short walk and drive to check out the Ada tree.
Thanks for the cache.

18-Sep-11
These old winches and their steam engines were pretty amazing. At GZ the cache was quickly spotted on the ground - an animal methinks. Thanks to hi pressure for bringing me to these old sites.

28-Aug-11
These mine relics are fantastic
I love looking at all the history
I am surprised that there are so many left
I don't suppose that they are easy enough to pick up and take home
they would look great in the garden though

Nice quick find thanks for bringing us here

lots of devastation at the site due to logging
it would have been a lot easier this time around with all the modern technology

13-Aug-11
Thanks for the cache, was a nice view from the spot too.

22-Jan-11
Found by Mary & David at 1320. We were heading for the Ada Tree to do some cache maintenance, and hadn't planned to come this way, but the road we used to use had been closed. This cache was a surprising addition to our list as a result. We love this kind of historical place, and we enjoyed the information sign. Nice to find a bigger cache too. Our thanks to hi pressure.

03-Jan-11
Another great relic that I was glad to come across through caching. I have read many books about timber getting in these parts and it was great to visit the area in person. The surrounding loading ramps and cable around the large stump opposite suggest an elaborate setup. I'm not sure if a tramway was involved here or if it was used in the trucking era. Really interesting stuff. Thanks for bringing me here. SL NINO TFTC

21-Dec-10
I was in the area to check on another cache, so I did a quick maintenance on this one.

13-Nov-10
3up, my son, and myself were in the area officiating in the ARC rally which finished early because of the rain. We were heading off home fairly tired (4:15 am start) and damp having had done some caches and then called it a day. But then "Hey! There's another one just here, better do it". This took us longer than it should have, but we got there in the end. Thanks for the cache.

Find # 1592 @ 17:00 with squalid
We had been officiating at the Rally of Victoria being held nearby and as it had finished earlier than expected due to the rain, we took the opportunity to grab a few caches on the way home, this one being the last for the day. Spotted by squalid after a short search. Thanks hi pressure!

10-Oct-10
After leaving home at 1000hrs on 10/10/10 we set off to find 10 caches today. Found in company with Drouinrooboy and Grumpy cow. I had shown the group the winch near Starlings Gap just beforre this so they were able to see what a more intact example looks like. Tks for the cache.

10-Oct-10
This Cache made 7 out of 8 for the day. Thanks to the clue we had this in hand fairly promptly. I took a Bart Simpson Toy and Left a Macdonald character with an operating little fog lamp. We are now off to GC16Z19 Not Over-Under. TFTC. This relics in this area are a real eye opener.

Always nice to finish the day with a find, especially one day with a mere 50% success rate.

Much easier find although we feared a DNF after our lack of success at the Gap....

It took a while to find this cache. Read the hint but still took a while to find it. Was making the same mistake as Geof. TNLNTFTC.

After stepping stone No1 I headed across to this one determined that it would not elude me a second time. Armed with the clue it still took a wile albeit in fading light with a small torch. But it was found. Did a drive by one plane sailing on the way back but decided night caching was not for me. Another day on that one.....

Thanks hi pressure

06-Mar-10
Took a look but not well enough I suspect. I'll be interested to find out where it is next time given I spent some time looking. Didn't have clue on hand but there is always another day. I must be getting rusty like the equipment [8)].

10-Jan-10
Called past and checked cache.
All is ok.

09-Jan-10
We have done a few other caches in this area that show the old tram lines and it was good to see one of the winches that would have powered these as well as read the information at the site. The cache took a little while to locate as for some reason we had a different mindset on this one. Once we sorted that out the cache was in hand quickly and the log book duly signed
Thanks again hi pressure for the cache

Second of three hi pressure logging History caches for the day. I have driven past this winch many times but never stopped so the cache gave me an excuse to finally get out the car and take a closer look. Thanks to hi pressure for the cache.

######FTF######### Thanks for the FTF prize.
Well this was a place we would not have gone or known about unless there was a cache placed here this was quite a blast from the past how they used to log, imagine if they had to do that now, took the time to read the sign which was quite interesting. We then decided to try and find some other ones on the way to Warburton quite a good drive through the bush. We accesed this cache in a 2WD car.
Took FTF Prize Left 1 TB and 2 geocoins. SL TFAnotherGreatC.
