A very pleasant day caching around Curramulka and surrounds. A little sunshine for a change, no rain and calm conditions. Lots of fresh new growth in the paddocks

A short stop here today, managed to find the cache nicely hidden and all is well

With 2.5 days free and nothing to do, what better than to head to the yorke peninsula for a few days. I made a plan of trying to clean up majority of the caches on the peninsula going from cache to cache. Managed to come away with only a few left and 247 finds for the few day trip.

Thanks for the cache

Found in fallen tree stump.

Day 3 of caching Gone Fishn’ trail on Yorke Peninsula and a few off trail trads today for a bit of variety with Wollaston and Liz&Bruce.

Wearing gloves and gators today as it’s getting warmer and the less tourist friendly wildlife are on the move. Adding to the thrill of finding each cache was the view of perfectly grown cereal crops almost harvest ready forming a tapestry across the hills, some starting to crop with mega harvesters. Along the way are the odd blue tongue lizards, huge centipedes, flighty spiders, horses and alpacas, birds nesting and singing away, the obligatory late afternoon flies, and the biggest beetles, and of course what would a cache day be without upsetting a few ants!

So much effort has gone into setting up these trails, a few caches were tricky to find, some were under bushes that are now trees, some were found in undergrowth that has overwhelmed the hide, some were under rocks when they were hinting a bush post or tree. For the rest, most were easy, some were duplicated and some were missing. We may have added to rock piles making a couple of cairns.

Maintenance was done by replacing full or wet logs and missing or broken containers all completed with CO permission.

Thanks to the many hands and minds taking time to set out hides and showing us your part of the world

Out with Purrfect Di , Sebastbat , and Jack , hunting tupperware and mint tins with billion dollar satellites Razz

Did quite a few more of the long fishy series, slowly getting there...
And so pleased to find some others along the way too!!!

This was an good historic site. We've recently bought an old school for a home, so adds to the interest when caching Big Grin

Most caches were found in good condition, we helped out with a little maintenance here and there, where things were cracked or missing logs or just plain wet !

The roads were pretty good, a little 4wd drifting along one stretch but nothing a Corolla couldn't handle Razz (if we had one)

Thanks for adding to the caching map out here healthy leg Cool

17-Nov-19
Off on a road trip to the Silo Art tour Vic, Mildura, Goolwa SA, Port Victoria SA and then home via Murray Bridge, Naracoorte, and the Grampians, picking up some caches along the way as we see the sights. We are now staying at Port Victoria, a more picturesque spot than Maitland and today we spent the day looking around the local area before heading off tomorrow. After a short drive to a place called Curramulka we stopped to pick up a couple of caches on the return journey. It was Mrs Pooky who made the find. TFTC and the history. TNLN

25-Apr-19
Epic day of caching. ANZAC day usually means a caching day for me. Had decided on a day of fishing on the YP would be a good way to get some numbers. Today was definitely about numbers as I was attempting to get 300 in a day, something I didn't think I could ever do but having read of a number of teams managing 870 with team work I thought that 300 would be doable on my own. So hatched a plan to get up super early and drive to the YP. Geohusband (who had zero interest in accompanying me on this quest) suggested it would be better to drive to YP the night before, stay in a hotel and then start early. Good idea I thought.
So had driven to Minlaton and camped at the motel there which was surprisingly good and surprisingly cheap. Only downside was forgetting my precious pillow which will now need to be replaced, but that is another story.
Up early and left hotel as the bugles were sounding at the Minlaton dawn service, so stopped for a moment to reflect. Kennedy and Malloy were on the radio interviewing returned servicemen, very moving. This was followed by caches, food, caches, food, caches, football, caches, long drive home. The magpies won an epic ANZAC battle and the Bombers fans booed Scott Pendlebury, how very dare they on such a day too.
Ended up with over 300 finds, brilliant. Long drive home, stopped at Cavan and had tea and then home to shower and bed. Will this feat ever be repeated by me? I say no but never say never!!!
So onto the caches, I mainly found fishing micros but also added in some others to break up the day. I had a bit of a drive between 2 sections of the fishing line which was also nice. The fishing caches became utterly mind numbing. Base of tree, base of tree, base of tree, base of tree, base of tree. Quite a variety of hides, many more mint tins than I was expecting. Was also entertained to find my stamp in 3 of the caches I visited that I had not been to before, but that is leap frog caching for you!!! Hated the caches hidden in rocks, rocks and more rocks. There was also a very tedious section of under bush, under bush, under bush, almost lost the will to live there. No dnfs today which was an added bonus, but as many caches had just been replaced by the last fishers had expected to get them all.
Caches were mainly in good condition, a few perished tubes, a few damp logs.
Not much in the way of humans seen (other than at the Minlaton ANZAC dawn service, a lot of people at that), a few farmers, one truck and one passing muggle. Not much in the way of wildlife either, cows, beasts, sheep, critters.
Weather was glorious and perfect for caching. Started at 7.03am and finished my stint on the YP at 6.15pm, saw the sunrise and the sunset. A day of my life I will never get back but excellent for the statistics!
My thanks to all the COs, especially those behind Fishy Tales and 3LG for all the wonderful buckets on the YP. Was at Mount Rat for the TOY bucket so also collected this one too. TFTC Healthy Leg

After finishing off the last section in the long series of fish to be found on the peninsula, we picked up a few more caches while travelling back to camp with ilook4geo. As usual, each log had two more names added to the end of the list and the container was replaced as it had been found before we moved on. Many thanks go to Healthy Leg for placing this cache.

Day three of the fishing line caches, a bit more challenging today, sooo many rock piles to glance over and find the cache made the going a little slower than desired. We have a real fondness for small country schools. We spent the first nine years of our marriage icing beside the schools Mr Ski was teaching at in Gippsland. The farming over there was primarily dairy cows back then, which is quite different from what we have seen around here, but I'm sure the lovely family atmosphere of the little schools was the same. The communities really miss the schools when they close down. Unfortunately with farms getting larger all the time, the number of kids in each area decreases leaving these schools with fewer and fewer pupils. Such a shame.
The cache was a straightforward find, but Mrs Ski is not at all impressed with the regular cache guardians-cockroaches with massive long legs!

Yorke Peninsula Day 4: Last day on the peninsula, so we decided to make a big dint into the fishing line today - up before dawn and collecting caches at a very rapid rate. Day 7 of the Perth to Adelaide trip where we started in Adelaide and ended in Warooka.

Today was the day, the main reason for the trip over, the start of the power trails on the peninsula. We had over 1400 caches saved off line and a variety of others to now find in the next 3 days prior to starting the drive.

Turned off the power trails to pick up a few different caches Have a Fav point

We had planned this for quite some time and until we broke it down for caches to be found v hours in a day the thought of how long the days would be didn’t cross the minds until the night before.

Once we realised that it was going to be some full on 12 hour days we were up at the crack of dawn, energised with a good nights sleep, phones fully charged and looking forward to the day.

We had only one time pressure today and that was our second event at 8pm in Warooka, possibly a welcome break and stop after waking at 5am to start caching!

healthy leg We found your cache Mount Rat School thanks for placing this power trail for myself and others to find. It’s large scale trails like this that we have travelled for.

08-Apr-18
Day 7 of Barnzy and Cravo’s trip from Perth to Adelaide.

We left Adelaide bright and early en route to the main goal of our 12 day caching trip across the Nullarbor - the powertrails on the Yorke Peninsula.

We started off leaving our accomodation in central Adelaide a touch after 5am, and driving to Port Wakefield to start on the trails.

We had been given numerous tips and hints by another local Perth caching team who had completed the geoart powertrails just before the gone fishing series was released last year.

We started off with some gusto and checked every hint, which worked well for a while, but as time went by it was taking longer to find caches with inaccurate hints, which is bound to happen as animals move containers which seemed to be a huge problem here as we found a number of the containers chewed into pieces.

We changed tack and slowed down, with Cravo driving and navigating to the location whilst I was on watch from a small distance away to see potential hiding spots and got out a bit slower to take in the area with a “where would I hide it”. This worked really well and kept the pace above 60 caches an hour in the early part of the day.

As time went on we naturally slowed down as the body got a bit more tired from constant in and out of the car and the mind sometimes not seeing the obvious.

We decided on a stop into Ardrossen for lunch at the bakery which was quite nice and grabbed a couple of other caches which was a welcome break from powertrailing all morning.

After lunch we continued on the powertrails as they meandered around the roads of the Yorke Peninsula towards Warooka.

We kept caching into the fading light before calling it quits, and checking into our accomodation for the night in Warooka and attended our event “Sandgropers on the Peninsula” just across the road from where we were staying.

A huge day out and a lot of thanks must be given to the geocaching teams behind the Fishy Tales team, this must have been a massive undertaking, with a lot of planning, checking and re-checking.

I hope that as time goes on teams completing the trail will continue to help with maintenance.

Without a doubt this is our biggest caching day ever, but may still be eclipsed in the coming days as we complete the power trails. Thanks for a brilliant day out which I’ll never forget.

Found on the 03/08/2017 at 1:07:00 PM.

On the final day of caching Yorke Peninsula with J+J. We had to stop earlier last night than expected due to the dreadded rain started to fall. Unknown to us in the morning was just how much rain fell! One local farmer later told us there was 15mm of rain overnight.
The extra water made our caching trip wet, and very muddy. The final highlight was having to be towed out off a muddy road by an 8 wheeled tractor!

Thanks for the all the caches.

# 9436. Sadly Robmc and I have left Marion Bay today and we are travelling to Moonta, zig-zagging along the way via some lovely little towns and a visit to Port Victoria, where we sat in the PostOffice Cafe for lunch and admired the views of the pier and the calm ocean on a sunny day.

I do like stopping for old school caches. I have a few of them myself back home. It is so much nicer when the building still exists however as this one does. A nice quick find here and back on the road.

So I have to go to Adelaide for work, on Monday so how to make a weekend of it..... contact brisal5 and turn it into a Yorke Peninsula exploration..... We were planning to find some geoart but instead got distracted by the many, many great caches located on the Yorke Peninsula.
My apologies for the generic logs my notes and memory of finding almost 100 caches in 36 hours are a bit lousy. But I truly appreciate the effort the cache owners have gone to creating some memorable cache hides in beautiful locations.

Plan A: A weekend to YP with mogni to do some Geo-art caching became plans B, C and D yesterday as we cached our way to Hardwicke Bay for our overnight digs. Time for plan E. Day three with Alansee and Micaparamedic we were finishing off a few caches around Port Vincent and then heading to Wallaroo for a few days caching there

We have visited many of these school sites since we started geocaching but this one has to be one of the more complete with a lot more standing than most. Students of today don't realise how easy they have got it.
The cache was again found nice and quickly and our initials added to the log.

To save room in the logs we signed as M.A.C.( Micaparamedic Alansee and Team Crackers).

What a fantastic couple of days! [^]
Sunday and Monday I enjoyed the company of RideTheGeoWalrus and Clare007 as we cached in an area that I have not cached in before.....therefore I enjoyed what is now a rare concept for me......not having to dodge previously found caches in order to find a cache to locus cache on Cool
We found dust, mud, caches, views, trees and lots of laughs as we drove around and exhausted ourselves doing 115 smileys Smile with 9 DNFs Sad (although we went back later and got finds on several of these DNFs) and one event attended...with only us three there Wink It's always good to CITO!
With CO's permissions, we also did quite a bit of cache maintenance as many logs were full or wet or both and several containers were broken or missing.
If any CO whose cache we visited really wants their old log back, then email me and I will try and work out which old log it is and return it to you.

Where do rats like to hide[?] Where we found the cache of course Wink
Still think I'd have preferred to go to school in something this small rather than the newer 1,000 plus students super schools!

South Australia 2013 with Sol de Lune. We headed off on 12/4 and arrived home on 28/4. The trip was to visit the SA series so more time could be spent at the Mega itself next year. We did a huge variety of caching around Murray Bridge, the Mid North, Yorke Peninsula and Whyalla Region. Apart from one wet night and two wet days we were able to spend heaps of time caching.

Today we were traveling on the Yorke Peninsula, the original destination for this trip for the third day. The night had been very windy and the first rain here for six months, so we were a bit wet. We spent the whole day and went from Pt Victoria to Yorketown. We went via as many of the towns as possible along the way. Everyone has done a great job of placing a great variety of caches and we had a great day.

Thanks.

As we were spending a few nights at Wallaroo and catching up with few Cachers at a an Event Held by Dazzatron for us TheKellyGang, thought we would go for a drive to clean up some caches in the area of the YP. Out with a fellow Cacher today as we offered to help do a maintenance run with them. TFTC

Found during a proposed 2 day cache run on YP. Unluckily the weather turned so I cut it to one day. Another day of caching in the wind and rain just didn't appeal.

A quick find in the near dark.
