TFTC out with Crack n Lee Lee getting a few caches. This one was a bit of a challenge. Lee Lee & 1bee deserted Crackers & 2bee to get this one. A lot of bush bashing required. Saw lots of native flowers

Wow wee...That was a bush bash and a half!!!
The girls piked it early on and waited in the car (turns out they were the brains of the operation today)
Craig and Ed pushed on through and eventually claimed the prize. Took a photo of the yarn and texted it to the girls so they could read it while waiting for the clowns to return.
The bush was real thick in parts with plenty of new undergrowth, at times head height.
There is no real track here guys...just push on through.
All in all a great little adventure was had and a nice view as a reward.
A fav point for this one. Thanks demath.

Really wanted to give this one a go after struggling with a couple of where on earth do you start Grampians caches. Took off down the track with the GPS going down slowly slowly. Very slippery after a bit of rain (& with the decent walking boots back at the van)and it was then a decision to be made... bush bash it or forget it. Gps was all over the shop anyway so decided that forget it was the order of the day. We have also decided now that these sort of caches aren't our thing. Not with a youngster in tow. A hike with at least some semblance of a track will be our make or break decision from now on! But thanks Demath for helping us come to this realization Smile

Done the awesome tour of the jail which was fascinating .
Thank you for your geocache and bringing us here

Heading back to camp after a car based potter around avoiding wind and rain, rain had settled so thought this one sounded a good note to end the day on. Hmm, think like a bush walker - easy that means do it the hardest way possible doesn't it Lots of wet soggy scratchy bush to push through, most of the plants I knew quite well including the Latin names but I was calling them everything but the Latin names Eventually dragged out to gz and had to make a hurried hunt - geopartner was waiting back at the car and I'd already been a while Admired the view - what a brilliant spot - before donning the pith helmet and making my way back again Thanks heaps for an absolute cracker spot!

Gramping with Beaker.. Had tried this one at the end of last year.. Got half way down and adios phone reception.. This time armed with gps and realised I'd been headed in the wrong direction anyway! Bit of bush bashing with the cuts and bruises to show for it.. I now know which bushes to NOT land on.. Haha.. We picked a pretty wild and woolly day for it.. Soaked to the skin and very grateful for the shelter near the end.. A great location and a nice challenge Smile Thanks!

Found with Ferocious Flea while in the Grampians for some caching action.
Bushfire regrowth is now quite high... over 6ft bushes a lot of the way getting to the cache depending on the route taken. Rain poured as we walked in... had a nice dry break under the cache location.
Great cache overall though... really enjoyed the challenge Smile

I'd been up Mt Burchell at the end of last year, but came back for the cache.
I guessed correctly where the cache would be and stayed pretty level - but even so, there were some patches which were pretty hard going. Timed it on the way back and it took 13 1/2 minutes - you'd be hard-pressed to do the round trip in 20 minutes I reckon.

Enjoyed the story too - I wouldn't have been game to roll down there...

Done with Trumanasaurus7. Not sure what the right way to the cache is, but I'm pretty sure the way we took wasn't it. Hell of a bush bash. Ripped a hole in my pants, which was amusing given the cache name. Spectacular views, thank you! Dropped TB.

Good story. Great view.

A nice view from up top. Either this cache has poor route directions or is very misleading. bush bash right in. Tftc

A great day in the Grampians with hiking, wild life watching and of course caching.
All alone by ourself we could search and find.

#664 for us, found on my way home from Horsham after a couple of work meetings. I had enough time left to dawdle my way home, so it was an ideal opportunity to grab some more smileys along the way.

Well, I think I made that a whole lot harder than it needed to be ! The GPS suggested I head down the old, steep track that headed downhill..that was OK, although I was thinking I'd be climbing on the way back !....then it decided I needed to head over there. Yep, there...up...no real tracks...oh no. I struggle up the steep hill, following wildlife paths where they were there and looking for thinner patches..with varying success. I was thankful I had long pants and that it was cold enough that slithery beasties were at home, not out and about.

On arrival at what I had thought would be GZ, I proceeded to hunt and found what looked like an ammo-can sized area with loose stones, but no ammo can Sad. I had resigned myself to a DNF, but then had another look at the GPS and realised I had 5m to go and there was a rock wall....more climbing and there it was...the cache !

I signed the log, took some snaps and read the Ripping Yarn. Although I wasn't crossing the Andes by frog, the trip back to the car along the same contour was a little easier, although there was no beaten track that I could find. The water I had left in the car was swallowed in double-quick time.

Thanks for the cache and the local history really adds to the experience..a fav from me !

Very difficult walk in the bush

Thanks to demath to show me this with this cache.

Found with my friend Ckronos during our trip from Melbourne to Darwin!
Thank you for the cache Smile

Wow, what an effort! The description is a little misleading with what felt like plenty of climbing. In the end the smiley was achieved and the views were appreciated. TFTC.

Dropped trackable NinjaCow001.

Maybe call me the big girl's blouse of caching, mind you check my caching history and you'll see that I've done some stuff, but this one was not as it would seem. I bush bashed up to 60 odd metres within GZ and then gave it up. The full range of experiences here. Be prepared to get in amongst it.
Sorry not to have made it.
Suggest strengthening the directions and preparatory information for future cachers.
Maybe one day I'll be back.

Started off down hill on a track before realizing it wasn't down there. Bushbashed for a bit then decided I wasn't up for a trek through the scrub so didn't get this one.

Demath you have done it again- made us work really hard to get to this cache - but we love it. TFTC

Found on the last day of our Halls Gap Geocaching adventure with TheGGGs and the Crouching Cranes. This was another tricky Demath cache, although I think we approached it the wrong way which meant some bush bashing. Sad to be going home after a lovely time away.

We should know to expect a walk through bush rather than on a track. Thanks for a lovely view even though the walk was hard going through thick scrub. TFTC

Short walk? we took the scenic route. Found with Grampians Puma and friends.

Found it with the Millie's. Didn't read instructions so went right to top of closest mountain before bush bashing down! Amazing views and great story

What a brilliant cache! I underestimated the terrain a little bit but we still had a great time getting there. Caching with a friend who hasn't done many and this was her first higher terrain cache. We found a track heading off in the right direction and followed it for a short distance before heading into the bush. Fought our way through the prickly plants until we hit the rocks and then started to scramble upwards. Got to a ledge and failed to find the cache after a lengthy search Sad. Read back through previous logs and worked out we had to be up a level and after a bit more climbing, ended up on top of the world! [^] Or it felt like it anyway. The cache was soon located and we took plenty of time to enjoy the views and the breeze. A wonderful special location. Thanks demath

willing to concede half a star due to the regrowth since the cache was placed..can't really go any higher as Nabrupt is 3.5 and is much harder than this.SPC is my idea of 4 stars, Span and Mt Gothic 4.5(as high as you can go without camping out or using special gear..ropes etc.)I get a lot of comments on this as you can see, but if you do some of the harder ones, you can see the elevation in ratings is pretty even.
Cheers

Found today after doing Pobblebonk. I would say this has got to be the hardest terrain cache that I have done. The little guys couldn't do it. MrsOgre couldn't do it. Cattycat and I pushed on and she simply followed in my wake.

I think when this cache was placed the vegetation was possibly quite different. Fire's cleared the area but now new growth has filled the void and the dead trees and shrubs have collapsed tangling the whole mess into a very difficult hike (I ran the cache rater as if I was placing my own cache there and got 4.5 stars).

Loved the cache when I got there though and we clamboured all over the place looking for the hide both up and down. We were both at the hide when Cattycat cried triumphantly and started pulling rocks...until I let her know the one she was pulling would mean the top one would fall and possibly hurt her, then she pulled from the top and soon had the cache in hand.

Found a little white orchid during the hike so it wasn't all struggle and pain.

And what a story it was...as you said, a ripping yarn - I would have loved to have seen the Knight boys doing what is in the yarn, and no I wouldn't have joined them!

TFTC SL Took travelbug.

Cheers

Pete

This one was way harder than the cache notes indicated. Lots of bush bashing. I ended up leaving Bruce to go solo and went back to the car and put the kettle on instead thinking Bruce would be able 20 minutes. Wondered where he had got to, looked pretty wrecked by the time he got back and a cold cup of coffee was his reward Sad. Thanks demath

1:14 PM, 30/08/11 swapped tb's head fell off harry potter TB

Today is day twenty five of my epic journey from home in Melbourne to Alice Springs in NT via the Flinders Ranges is SA and back. It is not purely a caching holiday, but I still hope to pick up quite a few caches on the way.

More on my return to melbourne

Don't know if there is an easier way in but I made it hard on myself. Ended up at the bottom of the rock face and had to climb up.
Very overgrown here and the terrain maybe a little under rated but an easy find.
Some great views in this area.
Did a TB swap.

Great cache, great location and a great yarn, Your description is way off the mark demath, This is not bushwalking but is really bush bashing(a big difference), and the time is closer to 40-50 minutes Get realistic. Left the coin there as I am not travelling very far,

I really lived up to my name with this one..thinking it was going to be a short stroll, like a driveby, I didn't take water with me.sillybilly..... this was the last of my 15 caches and by far the hardest ..sillybilly.....I wanted an easy cache to get my quota of 5 per day......Firstly, I climbed to the summit, got to the summit and the gps was pointing 200 metres from the cliff edge.... .......So then I walked down from the summit...and took that track that heads down the hill (which would be a right turn walking from the carpark)...I stumbled down there until my gps was saying 190metres or so pointing into the wilderness....so I left the track....remnants of bushfires everywhere. I got to within a few metres and found myself looking under cliffs...so I scaled a couple of rocks and got to the top, once there I found the cache fairly quickly...wedged rocks can sometimes look unnatural. One again, a real sense of accomplishment. TFTC...I'm very happy I soldiered on wiith a good resuly...Oh...I read the history too,....AND...I was amess after this cache, charcoal stuck to my sweat...and a few cuts aswell...When I got back to the car, I had a nice cold beer...I needed it.

Not too sure about the terrian rating for this one, it might be a bit light, as I had to carry my 5 year old daughter about half the way in!
There were great views from GZ and we spent a while just soaking up sun & scenery.
Grabbed the TB

Thanks to demath for the hunt & the scenery

found in company with o'cholio, this one is hard, lots of bushfire damage. TFTC

A short, steep walk, followed by some bush-bashing, before GZ was reached. The ageing Dugcholi had to wait below while Mr O retrieved the cache. Left a TB, and took a photo with the camera in the cache. Fantastic views, although I have to say 2.5 terrain stars is definitely underrated - even if this cache is easy by Grampians standards! TFTC.

One of only two caches for today. I camped not far from here, and having read previous logs, approached from below. An easy enough approach until the last 20 metres or so, and I did get rather black getting there too!

Cache was found easily enough and on the way out I took a route not quite so low and it wasn't too bad - just don't go high!

I forgot to read the yarn!

Well this was the last of our three planed caches for this afternoon. We have been going to have a go at this cache for a couple of months now, but every time we planed to go it rained, at least it seemed that way. Well we went in a little different I think, going lower and then having to work our way back up, a bit of a scramble in spots but it proved a lot clearer than the way we took out. After working our way up through the rocks the cache was found by the Co, GPS reading within the meter of where the cache was meant to be, spot on. Well the yarn was read, the log read and a photo taken, and the Co had spotted the multi-tool. He wanted it right or wrong and we had nothing of equal value to swap, so we left all we had and I will make sure we take something extra into Ripping Yarns 2 in the near future.
TFTC demath, a good hide the equal of what I am coming to expect of you, you must have done some exploring around these hills over time.

Mrs honeysucker disappointed as we went to for the FTF would have to question the terrain rating as we went down the steep hill first then i walked across the saddles to the rock escarpment this put me at the GZ according to the GPS looked all around then climbed to the lower level still to no luck came back very dirty and tired. i feel rating should have been at least 3 or 4 at least.
