EARTHCACHE DAY ?? Being as I am up in Dunedin it’s the perfect time to grab a different earthcache for earthcache day ?? I had been here before in the past to grab the virtual but didn’t even think to look at the earthcache at the time cause usually they are to complicated so I skip them, pleases I did so it was available now ?? I enjoyed this one it was informative and easy ?? also it ticks off a hidden date on my calendar ?? ? so happy all round T4TEC ??????
In Dunedin for a few days for U13 football tournament. Even though Mr12 has a broken arm we still made the trip to support the team...and Mr12, with a bubble wrapped arm, even managed to play a couple of the games....
What a fantastic spot. Really enjoyed wandering along looking at the rocks...and the nearby building architecture. Thanks.

In Dunners for the night. Came our early this morning to grab some answers. Lovely here this morning as no one was around. Thanks for bringing me here. TFEC
We saw all of the outdoor exhibits when we were on a campus tour on Friday without realising there was an Earthcache based on them. We arranged to meet a CO here today to return his puzzle cache (found somewhere it shouldn't have been) so that we could have a better look at the rocks and fossils. My favourite was the Marine Limestone with dolphin bones.
Some very cool history that we stumbled across during our walk through the uni grounds this morning. Shame the inside museum not open too.
Have walked along here a number of times , as I always enjoy a visit to Otago University. Today there was only a few people around which makes the visit much more enjoyable. Answers sent tonight.
Enjoyed learning about the amazing rocks placed here.

Thank you for the geology lesson.

GCHQ were a bit slow rolling out the 2021 Ecache [s](https://www.geocaching.com/souvenir/?guid=19b6c982-7f88-48c8-acce-963e375e9611)ouvenir for another year. Juggled some dots around and logged today for the RTP challenge in my largest saturation area north of the old line. We used a closer park from the usual allocated carpark at the Uni and wandered through the campus to a spot I had passed by regularly over the last several months. The boulders were impressive and well maintained by Property Services at Otago University; one 'burrowed' from Western Southland provided some information that was correlated with the rest and emailed to the inactive CO, no response. Seemingly not online since Jun'20 and not logged a find since Dec'16. *RTP 750pt (same for high fav's as well as Ecache qualifier)*. 116ft offset from Clocktower, 387ft offset from the Uni multi find that was deleted after I signed log. TFTEC
I was passing through Dunedin as I picked up some furniture from further up the Earth.
Looked for a simple earthcache for the weekend, and this one popped up.
I was here a couple year ago for the virtual, but as I don't generally like ECs, I didn't log until now.
Wasn't too hard finding a park with a trailer on, but turning around on a one way street was.

Well I was going to do my earthcache up at the organ pipes but had to make do with thus fine walk in the pouring rain. Realized a touch screen phone doesn't work very well in these conditions. Got a photo in lieu of the pipes though but Pengi got wet, but he loves it.
Down to do some cellular testing, it'd be damn rude not to get a few geocaches along the way
After doing the nearby virtual, I thought it'd be rude not to go and get this too! Looked fairly simple, which I was glad for, I didn't have a jacket and the wind had an icey bite to it, so I was keen to get back to warm up... even despite this, I made a start on the AdLab by the railway station. Anyway, what an interesting place! Great that someone went through the effort to put these here in a public area for people to see.
TFTC terman8or, the cache was found in good order Signed, sealed and returned to GZ. 5 find(s) of 6 today, making this find #2880

Went today on a freezing day so thankfully this didn’t take us too long. I couldn’t take a photo of my GPSr as it doubles as my cellphone so you get a photo of me instead. TFTC.
We have been looking for not chosen size caches and an earthcache ticks two boxes here in this cool area. The buildings are great all lit up at night and I loved the simplicity and ease of this earth cache. We did collect the answers and so simple to do as they are so very easy, I wish more EC were like this!
Trip log: When cheap flights presented the opportunity to go to NZ with GreyHams, who was keen to get the 5 2000 caches and the web cam I was of course very keen to tag along. I didn't want to miss out on that... Equally as keen for those caches myself and the first chance to get the passport out in a long time and head overseas while we could. Covid Happenings of course did put the trip in doubt and a last minute effort from GreyHams to get the flights changed and it was looking like this might actually happen... until I arrived I truly didn't think it would!
The cache list was quite simple, the 5 2000 caches and the webcams. Of course we did look at others as we travelled, types, DT, not chosen which were in abundunce and caches of quality, if your cache made our list it had a quality we needed. Many thanks for your cache that helped guide us along our way.
Certainly it was a memorable time, barefoot 500 plus metres across a mud estuary of shells and crabs was more fun than it should be. As was pushing through wet thick high flax or tall wet grass across to the caches. But the most memorable would be the fog, the thickest, most relentless fog but it provided some stunning scenery at times and was just crazy.
I loved seeing all the chinese takeaways that did fish and chips, the perfect hedges and a deserved shout out to Indian Zaika for its great food! Certainly with the fog and rain it was an interesting trip and we got quite drenched at times, it hid a lot that NZ has to offer but 'it's a caching trip' after all so it ticked all the right boxes and was very enjoyable regardless. Huge thanks to GreyHams for letting me tag along while he did all the planning, booking, driving and sending in the answers for the caches... as always!

Trip log:
International travel!!...OMG it feels good. Grabbed some cheap flights and anxiously waited for some outbreak to derail the plan, but that amazingly didn't happen. Sure, I had to scramble and reroute our trip via Brisbane & Sydney as we were originally going through the plague pit...aka Melbourne, but we still made it.
Having done most of the North Island, it was good to finally have a crack at the South. 5 year 2000 caches and a webcam, thats a nice little haul. Sure, some of the year 2000 caches involved bush bashing....in the rain/fog/mist...but we got them all. We had lots of other little targets like getting all our types/sizes/DT, NZ in particular has so many 'Not Chosen' size caches, super rare back in Oz, so we made sure to get as many as possible. If you are reading this, its because this cache had a quality we were chasing.
As always, the Earthcaches and the Virtuals took us to some really cool places, the Steampunk HQ and the boulders being birthed at the beach being the highlights. My favourite cache though would have to be the one where we had to walk 500m over a mud flat, dodging shells and crabs with our bare feet.
This trip will be remembered as the 'fog trip' as we saw a lot of it, which meant we saw little else. Oh, that and how every Chinese takeaway also doubles as the fish & chip shop....its a thing!

My son has just moved to Dunedin. I haven't been to this city in 30 years so it was great to get the chance to come down. We spend the last 3 days exploring around the city and surrounding areas. Two of my sons flatmates go to this uni. Fantastic old buildings here. I just loved it. The dolphin bone one was my favourite rock sample but the marine sandstone one was a close second. Thanks for this earthcache
This gave me a good excuse to look at the Geology Museum after having a lecture at Quad
The geology museum has gone into my list things to do when I have time in Dunedin. Thanks for introducing it to me
We were down in Invercargill for a week then travelled around a bit and we passed quite a few caches and i was able to stop and locate some and then made our way through to Dunedin for a reunion . At the reunion i finally had a few minutes to wander to a couple of very close caches to our hotel . and then another early morning went visited the University before muggles were in the area. We walked through this outdoor museum and noted all the information etc which i duly took a photo of to assist with answering questions etc
I like the rock sample that reminded me of a tuatara lifting its head which is what i will post along with another that i liked
. thank you for this cache it was an interesting amble around here

Really enjoyed the walk around this area plus the fantastic samples of geology. TFTEC and the treat!
Fantastic cache, enjoyed the information, walking around here was lovely. The old buildings are magnificent. TFTC.
An interesting earthcache at the University and rocks and fossils are fascinating. Have emailed my answers
Logged this after attending a great talk on a visit to the Chatham Islands in the Geology Dept. Knew this outdoor museum was here, but finally logging the cache. Have noted all the answers to the questions, and pic of my "GPS" with Diorite Pegmatite is attached. TFTC.
Out and about today for some caching. Had our family xmas a few days ago before we left home so today was just us. Decided to hit central Dunedin today as figured there would be less people around. The only people we did seem to hit was a couple of Chinese tour groups.
In the area collecting another cache and we realised that we were standing next to this one so of course we had to find it. Interesting reading for each exhibit. I never realised the University grounds were open to the public. We have attached our required photo. tftc

Heading up from Invercargill to attend a CITO at Signal Hill just had enough time to sort this Earthcache out. Not knowing the area much and wondering if I could get a park.. and if there were too many student muggles around I was pleasantly surprised all good to go. Love the grounds of the Uni and the old buildings, a nice relaxing stroll up to GZ. Fabulous display which will help immensely on other Earthcaches around which I struggle with. Snapped the info plaques for future reference and study, here's the necessary pics. fave-ing it tfte
On my way to Christchurch today so didn't have much time to spare so took lots of photos and now that I'm catching up on my logging I have time to read the plaques, thanks for an interesting earthcache terman8or

Visiting Dunedin for the weekend, it was great to walk through here again,I don't think I ever paid much attention to the museum when I was a student here. Thanks for the earthcache!
Day 13 of my 2020 NZE (New Zealand Experience).
(My apologies for the delayed logging but I'm in catch-up mode)
Seeing as I can't be in America right now, I'm touring around the South Island instead. During my time here I am aiming to find as many of the TMGT caches as I can (preferably all 41) and also as many Virtuals, Earthcaches and Letterbox Hybrids as possible, plus any Trads or others that will fill a hole in my D/T grid, my Jasmer grid, or else the last 3 remaining Hidden Dates on that grid.
I woke up this morning having spent the night beside a lovely beach near Heywards Point on the outskirts of Dunedin. Today's plan was to drive from Dunedin down to the Catlins, although I had no real idea of how far I'd get today. I have been so lucky to have dry conditions my whole trip so far, with the sun really putting in an effort to convince me it wasn't winter!
I have a bit of a tie-in with Dunedin. I'm of Scottish descent and went to Uni in Edinburgh (from which Dunedin gets its name) and have always enjoyed visiting here although it's been over 10 years since I was last here. I enjoyed the walk around the campus this morning, and was quietly impressed with having such examples openly on display here.I took lots of photos, but one or two of them got corrupted on my phone.
But I was definitely here, and that's definitely me in my attached photo lol!
Thanks for the enjoyable Earthcache. FP given

I always walked pass these plaques without ever reading them so it was nice to actually learn
Found just enough time between appointments to head back to university to further our education.
After a look at the need info and a study session to Crame all the need info before the next test.
It was great to look over the need info I learnt so munch
It been a nice distraction from life and a break away from the appointments.
We are so lucky to the fossils di well preserved .
It's just amazing that we all can get a glimpse into the past well millions of years ago.
If only we could see what it was like back then or maybe not .
Thanks for the earth cache

Here for the day off the Radiance of the Seas. The answers for our group has been sent in by kteeeee. Thanks for bringing us here and thanks for the Earthcache!
Plans started two years ago for this trip. In January we picked up masks for the smoke. On February 4 we flew out of Vancouver and landed in Sydney on February 6. At that time we enjoyed enjoyed three days of torrential rain and wind but had to lovely walking tours and a speed boat ride, rode the ferries and hit a few museums and just enjoyed the sites in Sydney. From there we sailed around Australia and New Zealand only getting off the ship yesterday. Those who boarded our ship were told just hours later that their cruise was canceled and they had to leave the ship. We cached as team CCC, MissPeach13, mrpeach, Kteeeee, mrKteeeee, wrt and myself. Wrt and I continue our adventure visiting with friends, avoiding crowds.

We are in our final week of our 5 week NZ road trip. It has been wonderful. Greetings from Washington state. Today we took the bus from our VRBO into the downtown area to scout out all the old buildings. Happy to find some geocaches along the way. I really wanted to see this campus and this clock tower. Made all the better because I got to get a smiley too. TFTC

Cruising our way around New Zealand, today's adventures are in Dunedin!
This was our second stop of the day, as it was beautiful weather in Dunedin - not so much in Port Chalmers. Out lovely Tour Guide of the day brought us to this lovely location. It is a beautiful campus. We gathered the information and have sent a message.
We will attached required photo (but sitting in a lounge while typing this - currently with no phone cord - watching the scene go by). Wink

Enjoying a long weekend in the Deep South with Bennett24 where we travelled around to pick up old caches, geotour caches, a few solved puzzles and one or two other types like a few earthcaches and virtuals. Today is our last day and we drove from Tokanui back to Dunedin to make our flight.
Did the requirements for the cache which Bennett24 has sent through on our behalf - hope all was OK. As we did the nearby virtual I remarked that this place would make a magic earthcache and so it proved to be. Thanks for the fun earthcache.

On a caching weekend to Otago and Southland with Tuolei to pick up old caches, TMGT's, CANZ, solved puzzles and any others that caught our eye along the way. We had a 4 day long weekend planned that would take us around Dunedin on the first day, Tuatapere via Sutton, Balcutha, Mataura and Winton on the second day, Tokanui via Riverton, Invercargill and Bluff on the third day and then back to Dunedin via the Catlins on the last day. Overall we did 1578km and picked up just under 100 caches and managed to knock off most of the caches we had on our list.
Very interesting collection of rocks here, especially the one with the fossil in it. This cache was reminiscent of an earthcache in Seattle University which also has a similar collection in a courtyard we did sometime ago. Have sent the CO the answers to the question, thanks for the interesting earthcache.

After completing the nearby Clocktower and Bell virtual cache, we wandered over to check out the Outdoor Museum. Very interesting and informative exhibits making a great basis for an earthcache. Thanks for showing us.
Day Three Of Our Journey to South Island With Squirrel Nutcase.
Today's mission to travel from Dunedin to Christchurch to find all the TMGT caches and a few others in between.
First 4, very nearby caches to our digs this morning then on our way with a coffee stop at Palmerston.
Caches with some great stories, including maori art work with caption of a sailing ship, miles inland from coast then a walk along moa hunters cache. (real effort on the stones)
Arrived in Christchurch to our motel that Mrs Fap had arranged earlier as she didn't want to go through the issues we had the previous night to find accommodation. Normally Squirrel Nutcase and Gap fly by the seat of their pants finding this.
Now to complete balance of TMGT caches around Christchurch and meeting up with fellow cachers doing the same thing.
Last cache for day and we find a pet rabbit at GZ, we guessed it had being left there by an unwanted owner so contacted CO who said he would get in contact with the SPCA. (hopefully bunny has found a new home)
Big effort by our team today and mission completed.
Many thanks to all the cache owners for placements.
Logging with Squirrel Nutcase.

With Fap and Gap... Late last year, we started to plan for a trip to the South Island - The goal was to complete the TMGT trail.
Dunedin - Christchurch: After a quick find nearby, we decided to stretch our legs a bit more, and we made our way over to the University of Otago. We started out working on the virtual, but gradually switched over to this Earth Cache. We enjoyed examining the different rock formations in the outdoor display, and found the necessary information to meet the needs of the tasks. This one didn't take long to complete. Thanks terman8or and TFTEC.

Together with TEMBO! I had a really interesting geocaching-trip today. We could find some geocaches, met some locals and had a great talk to them.
Concerning this geocache I want to say thanks because we had much fun in searching and finding this geocache! The cache made our trip even more interesting!

Thanks to the cache owner for placing and maintaining this cache. Without their work this game would not be possible.
Caches should be fun and creative, not evil.
Exploring the world one cache at a time.

While visiting the University and took some fotos of the clocktower. I also passed by these „stones“, informed myself and took A foto of my favourite one, because of the dolphin (I like dolphins) bones on it.

Found with Ruru_NZ as we are in Dunedin for an overnight stay before heading to the Catlins for some caches there and then back to Invercargill. Photos and answers to come as they are on my phone and yet to be downloaded. Doing that in the morning.
Met up with KCN at the event, and making our way back to inv over the next few days.
Given the weather we opted for this one to get this years souvenir. Initially discounted it as saw it was only open 5 days... Then reread and headed here. Mr Google took us the very long way.
Interesting rocks and we made short work of gathering the required info.
Thanks for the smilie terman8or.

KrystalKath and I are here today to visit the Geology Museum which we found out about through Geotours.
A great way to spend another wet day. I particularly enjoyed the geology and fossils. KK enjoyed the rocks and minerals. Disappointed I still can not find a sample of Taranakite.
Answers sent to CO even though it wasn't necessary. Thanks for the Earthcache on International Earthcache Day 2019.

A virtual and EC? Great! Found the Outdoor Museum and gathered the information needed to fulfill the answer tasks. Snapped some photos and attached one here.

A wedding anniversary to celebrate - provides a convenient excuse for a longer than usual vacation. So 3 weeks and travel to Australia and New Zealand sounds like an excellent plan. General itinerary is as follows:
2 October: Depart from home with a layover in Houston, TX
4 October (long flight + time zones = lost day): Arrive in Sydney
4-7 October: Sydney
7-15 October: New Zealand South Island
16-21 October: New Zealand North Island
21-23 October: Sydney
23 October: Fly home through Vancouver, Canada
Saw a ton and had an absolutely wonderful time. Can't wait to make it back here!

Found this cache on the way back to home on Dundas Street walking through campus. Pictured is my caching partner in crime Yah Aight!
TFTC. Lovely spot on a sunny day with the flowering magnolia and plenty of information about.
Visit #1 I collected all the answers, but missed that a photo needed to be taken. Beautiful weather today, and a caching friend in town meant visit #2 was in order. Bonus having the magnolia in bloom! Thanks for drawing my attention to such an interesting feature of the Otago Uni.

I came to this one with a fellow Christchurch cacher on a visit to the Uni. After some drinks with local friends, we stopped by on our way back to the hotel. Very nice idea for an EarthCache. Answers sent to the CO.

That is a first for me ... the first earth cache where the co does not want to have the answers splendid and new and well, of course I have collected them, it’s the habit and the will to learn a bit more if possible
Anyways, it’s Sunday and 25000 new students have just arrived in Dunedin... seems like this will be another wild night for them
Thanks for pointing out the open air museum

On a geocaching adventure around the country with myself, my car and my tent. Drove almost 4000km and collected 170 caches over a week of roadtripping, camping and seeing the beautiful sights of New Zealand. Lots of fun and so many great caches were found, as well as a lot of DNF's. Apologies for copy paste post. Thank you to all cache owners. Day seven driving from Dunedin to Temuka. Thank you for the cache
- thank you for this earth cache, enjoyed reading all the information and also visiting the museum in theology building. Never knew this existed even when I attended this university for 2 years a few years back. Sorry I couldn't get my GPS in photo as my GPS is also my camera....
